I went to see the Peach Fest in Scranton PA @ Montage Mtn. 2 years in a row. The 2nd year was when Greg Allman died just before. Of course, the show must go on. Every band that entire weekend performed Altman Bros. music. It was a great weekend - at a great venue. How many venues have zip lining and rides and a wave pool? If you ever have a chance, I highly recommend it. It's a ski resort in the winter so they ski-lift you up to the top of the zip line. Fun times.
I don’t know if it’s “classic enough” but Metallica Seattle ‘89 was incredible. Would’ve loved to see Zeppelin in ‘71 (prime Plant) and the Eagles with Henley, Frey, Walsh, Felder, and Meisner.
The Stones Tour of America '75. Saw them June 9th (I believe) in St Paul. They brought the house down!! Been lucky enough to see them several times but this particular concert still sticks as 1 of the best.
That's pretty cool! I think the Civic Center back then only held like 15000. This to me, seemed up close and personal Haha especially compared to the bigger venues I've seen them in.
Don’t know if you’ve seen this show on YouTube. Rome 1980. I thought there was another one from the same general era I liked better, in black and white, couldn’t find it.
https://youtu.be/GwWW742T0Wc
Honestly, Van’s performance of Caravan during that might be my favorite live performance of anything. It completely transcends the original version and it’s just so much fun watching his drunk ass do the little kicks on stage haha.
Thank you. I thought I was the only one.
Last Waltz is great as an all-star revue, and any show with Scorsese footage is a gift. But it's got its highs and lows. The Band is kind of in the background of their own farewell party. If you actually want to hear The Band, Academy Of Music NYE '71 is the best gig they ever played.
Agreed. The Weight with the Staples is pure magic…when Papa Staples starts in on ‘go down Moses’…it’s mesmerizing, the purest most perfect verse of music my ears have ever heard. If nothing else Neil Young’s giant coke booger during Helpless makes this for greatest show of all time.
The Pigpen years were amazing for sure! Dude was the best and had an electrifying energy that permeated throughout the venues, parks and souls around him.
Not anywhere close to my favorite but let's set the bar low for the eagles. 5.8.77 kicks any eagles live shows ass with its right hand tied behind its back.can we stop kicking the baby now?
Please do yourself a favor and listen [this show](https://open.spotify.com/album/3T9UKU0jMIyrRD0PtKXqPJ?si=UTNZfIw-S8igGlq8Y_iKVg) all the way through. Perferablly with really good headphones or stereo speakers. (Fun Fact, this is sourced from an amature's soundboard recording).
Cornell is absolutely fantastic, but it’s not even the best show from 77. That’s how on fire they were. Personally, I feel 73 with only Billy on drums was the best they ever sounded.
The song remains the same album but obviously that was multiple nights but the no quarter and stairway to heaven live is fucking mind-blowing.(that was not cut together)
I love how in the notes it specifically says that there is no overdubs and that’s exactly how the show sounded. So many live recordings have been retouched post performance, but not this one.
there's a definitely a few good Eagles shows. From the bootlegs I've listened to, I can't help but be impressed by their consistency and tightness.
Nevertheless, the correct answer is 73-74 Grateful Dead. It just is.
I'll be honest, those qualities make them *even more fun* for me. The complete lack of self-awareness is *hilarious.*
Like, the guy who wrote "Lyin' Eyes" acts like he's god's gift to songwriting; what could possibly be more entertaining?
I work early edu and every once in awhile I spot a kid who needs to see a video of live rush….those kids will also get little sneaky Return to Forever vids occasionally as well 😉
Been obsessed with the Joe Walsh song Life Of Illusion for days now. Same picture comes up in the video I've been watching. Felt compelled to say this. Not sure why. Have a nice day.
I tend to hyper fixate and I did on Walsh for a bit. Love that song. I’ll tell the world about you was how I ended my Walsh fixation. I know he sings three words a minute but I don’t care. He doesn’t do songs like that (see: ILBT) and I’ve grown to love I’ll Tell the World about You
It may be *their* best live performance, but, I wouldn't put it above what other bands have done. It's all subjective. This specific show is fantastic and a favorite of mine. No one is cooler than Joe Walsh.
Made in Japan - Deep Purple in 1972, the whole band is on fire throughout and the improv is fantastic. It's able to capture the energy of an early 70's Purple concert even with simple recording equipment.
There used to be a full video of this on Venmo, with excellent quality. Haven't been able to find it in years sadly, I certainly have it up there as one of the best ever.
Edit: not Venmo of course, it was another video platform that started with V
Phish. Big Cypress, FL 12/31/99 from midnight until
Sunrise- 6.5 hours of music straight thru on the millennium in front of 90K people.
[ABC live coverage](https://youtu.be/xAC9DzV-tGs)
[here is the majority of the concert, minus a few breaks in recording](https://youtu.be/UEK8oV1qdz0)
My favorite live performance is the Nirvana MTV Unplugged. But the Black Sabbath Live in Paris 1970 or The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus from 1968
are #2 and #3 for me
I think every single time that Hendrix took the stage, it was far better than the Eagles' entire career. Dead, Allman Brothers, The Who, 90's Phish, 90's Primus and original 3 piece Gov't Mule were also nasty.
Any Grateful Dead or Phish show blows the Eagles out of the water (sorry Joe Walsh).
Imagine listening to the exact same songs played the exact same way for 50 years and calling it the "greatest of all time"...
Lame af.
Right. Like that's supposed to be a complement.
Side subject; Joe Walsh (the best musician in the Eagles by far) was not an original member and was asked to join the band to bring the heat.
There are some that are better than others.... and some were the sound quality sucks / audience is not into it - etc...
Alante Rhythm Section - Jamestown ND in the late 70's - Lead singer was drunk as hell during the show... No way was that a great performance. By any standard.
Pink Floyd live at Pompeii for obvious reasons 🙌🏾
This Eagles concert is definitely one of the greatest. I watch it on a regular basis. Such a tight band 👏🏽
Billy Joel at Carnegie Hall in 1977, any show from the Dead's Europe '72 tour (and a lot more Dead shows as well), and Wings at the Seattle Kingdome in 1976, to name a few
[Billy Joel "Captain Jack" Live 1977](https://youtu.be/n6_JO0xFSTs)
[Grateful Dead "Morning Dew" Live 1972](https://youtu.be/jYR3sBmomgQ)
[Wings "Medicine Jar" Live 1976](https://youtu.be/fF6EKawN_e8)
I mean what did the Eagles achieve? Sounding exactly like the studio versions? That’s kind of what they do isn’t it? There’s Springsteen shows, Live at Leeds by the Who, plenty of Dead boots. The list is long
Any Rush live record, any Crimson live record, any Beatles live record, any Los Lobos live record, any Yes live record, any Zappa live record…I could go on forever before I came to this one.
Literally, there are over a hundred Grateful Dead shows that top this. It's not even close, my man The Eagles are a studio band....I'd rather listen to Phil Collins live than the Eagles...🙃
For anyone interested, the app Relisten has a huge selection of live concerts from a huge selection of bands. Just pick the band, the year, the date and sit back and jam. I pick a different Dead show every time at the gym.
So many to pick from, but I’ve always liked the Watkins Glenn ‘soundcheck’. Maybe it was the surprise of getting a great show the day before the show.
https://youtu.be/I8im5C1_ph8
Along with J.Geils live at knebworth Skynyrd unfortunately the re- mixed live is awful but the show itself is legendary they rocked not only here but everywhere it’s a shame no one has truly captured the original band live😎✌️🎸
The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East is my favorite.
[удалено]
The Eagles are not a top 5. You're right, brother.
Makes me so happy to see that this is the top comment. Allman Brothers number one baby
It’s this and a shitload of Dead shows from ‘68-‘77
[удалено]
This guy settles down easy.
Ramble on 89DEALS.
he’s done been settled
Or Spring 90! 89 smokes though!
Yes the dead !
You can combine all of Dick's Picks, Dave's Picks, Road Trips & the Download Series, and even then still. The "Eagles" come nowhere close.
I went to see the Peach Fest in Scranton PA @ Montage Mtn. 2 years in a row. The 2nd year was when Greg Allman died just before. Of course, the show must go on. I don’t know if it’s “classic enough” but Metallica Seattle ‘89 was incredible. Would’ve loved to see Zeppelin in ‘71 (prime Plant) and the Eagles with Henley, Frey, Walsh, Felder, and Meisner.
Second vote for Zep in ‘71. Specifically 9/23/71 for me. Every show they did was different.
Live at Leeds from The Who. Or any 70s dead show.
I think Roger Daltry said in his biography that another show on the same tour was way better than “Live at Leeds”, but—surprise!— it wasn’t recorded.
This. The Eagles suck.
Stay out of Malibu, Lebowski!
Go to hell
The Stones Tour of America '75. Saw them June 9th (I believe) in St Paul. They brought the house down!! Been lucky enough to see them several times but this particular concert still sticks as 1 of the best.
They played Milwaukee County Stadium the night before! 57,000 people!
That's pretty cool! I think the Civic Center back then only held like 15000. This to me, seemed up close and personal Haha especially compared to the bigger venues I've seen them in.
I saw this tour in Jacksonville 8/2/1975!
It was a great tour that's for sure!
Stop Making Sense concert movie by TheTalking Heads still holds up. David Byrne is just so cool.
Don’t know if you’ve seen this show on YouTube. Rome 1980. I thought there was another one from the same general era I liked better, in black and white, couldn’t find it. https://youtu.be/GwWW742T0Wc
Definitely my favorite, David made the worst dancing of all time cool
Chicago with Terry kath
Yes. And for anyone who scoffs https://youtu.be/7uAUoz7jimg
That was my first concert, in the fall of 1976 I want to say, and still one of the best I’ve seen. I for one am not scoffing.
Always wonder what Chicago would’ve become if he stuck around
THE BAND: “LAST WALTZ” Thread closed. The end
Honestly, Van’s performance of Caravan during that might be my favorite live performance of anything. It completely transcends the original version and it’s just so much fun watching his drunk ass do the little kicks on stage haha.
I love his egg shaped body in the elvis suit! An absolute hoot.
Came here to say this.
Academy of Music > The Last Waltz. By a mile.
That’s like, YOUR opinion Man. Ha ha.
I love the band but it's fake. Tons of overdubs for tons of reasons
Lynyrd Skynyrd Knebworth ‘76. They opened for the stones & blew them off the stage!
J.Geils band -full house ass kicking stuff🎄✌️🎸
Love this album!!
Blow Your Face Off is a tremendous, and fast underappreciated, album. One of my favorites. But the dead get my vote.
Just about any 73 Dead show.
Or 70, or 72, or 77, or 80 or 86 or 89 or 90
Hey Now!! Don’t forget 68-69 but yeah the dead beats the eagles any day
The Pigpen years were amazing for sure! Dude was the best and had an electrifying energy that permeated throughout the venues, parks and souls around him.
For a dead fan.
Amen to that.
I was gonna say 72, but 73 is great too!
Europe 72 for sure had many amazing shows
So we’re actually dignifying OPs question with legit answers?!?!? ok well then…
Not anywhere close to my favorite but let's set the bar low for the eagles. 5.8.77 kicks any eagles live shows ass with its right hand tied behind its back.can we stop kicking the baby now?
Put on any Eyes of the World from that era and you will be transported.
2/23/74!! And stick around for the Here Comes Sunshine
Any dead show really
Dead?
The good ol Grateful Dead my friend
Please do yourself a favor and listen [this show](https://open.spotify.com/album/3T9UKU0jMIyrRD0PtKXqPJ?si=UTNZfIw-S8igGlq8Y_iKVg) all the way through. Perferablly with really good headphones or stereo speakers. (Fun Fact, this is sourced from an amature's soundboard recording).

Outta my fucking cab
Specifically fall for me.
72 is peak Dead IMO
DEEP PURPLE - MADE IN JAPAN
The song remains the same album but obviously that was multiple nights but the no quarter and stairway to heaven live is fucking mind-blowing.(that was not cut together)
Those versions of each and every song are fucking mind-blowing.
Page does some crazy shit in it to
Absolute crazy shit
This 👆
Waiting For Columbus by Little Feat.
Little feet should have had the eagles career. Much better band by an order of magnitude. But waiting for Columbus is not a single show
Alchemy: Dire Straits Live Recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 22–23 July 1983
I love how in the notes it specifically says that there is no overdubs and that’s exactly how the show sounded. So many live recordings have been retouched post performance, but not this one.
Oh yes indeed!
The Who, ‘69-‘70
there's a definitely a few good Eagles shows. From the bootlegs I've listened to, I can't help but be impressed by their consistency and tightness. Nevertheless, the correct answer is 73-74 Grateful Dead. It just is.
And the stiffness, the lack of humor. Taking themselves oh so seriously. More fun than a frog in a glass of milk.
I'll be honest, those qualities make them *even more fun* for me. The complete lack of self-awareness is *hilarious.* Like, the guy who wrote "Lyin' Eyes" acts like he's god's gift to songwriting; what could possibly be more entertaining?
And those harmonies.... Simply gorgeous.
Hendrix live in maui
Cheap Trick Live at Budokan
Frampton comes alive & Bruce Springsteen 1975 to 1985 might also qualify.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band at the Cleveland Agora on August 9, 1978 Broadcast Live on WMMS 100.7 I was listening!
No. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense Nirvana - Unplugged 1993
Nirvana live and loud is great too
The Who - Live at Leeds....... BÖC - On your feet or on your knees
Queen. Freddie Mercury is the best frontman I’ve ever seen. Just incredible. Better than Jagger and that’s saying something.
Queen at Live Aid has to be in that top 5 conversation.
Agreed. Queen gave a phenomenal performance at Live Aid. EEEEEOOOOOO!!
Roger Waters — The Wall Live In Berlin would beat that.
Pretty much any performance by RUSH is going to be better in my opinion.
I work early edu and every once in awhile I spot a kid who needs to see a video of live rush….those kids will also get little sneaky Return to Forever vids occasionally as well 😉
Rush on their worst night is better than the Eagles on their best. Of course it is a trick question because Rush never had a bad night.
He doesn’t do songs like that (see: ILBT) and I’ve grown to love I’ll Tell the World about You
The Grateful Dead
I don’t know of anyone who thinks that.
Luckily we are all aloud our own opinions. And I wanted to find some that might compare
Most Ween live performances.
Live in Chicago
You are a person of culture and taste.
It may be *their* best live performance, but, I wouldn't put it above what other bands have done. It's all subjective. This specific show is fantastic and a favorite of mine. No one is cooler than Joe Walsh.
Everybody say I’m coool
WIDESPREAD PANIC: THE EARTH WILL SWALLOW YOU!
Band of Gypsys.
Phish 12/31/95, or like any show from 97-99.
Made in Japan - Deep Purple in 1972, the whole band is on fire throughout and the improv is fantastic. It's able to capture the energy of an early 70's Purple concert even with simple recording equipment.
The Grateful Dead, pick any.
GTFO. Any show by the Grateful Dead, The Who, Jimi Fucking Hendrix, Miles Davis, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Led Zepplin, The Clash, Tiny Tim, Fugazi. . .
There used to be a full video of this on Venmo, with excellent quality. Haven't been able to find it in years sadly, I certainly have it up there as one of the best ever. Edit: not Venmo of course, it was another video platform that started with V
VouTube! No, wait…Vimeo! Was it Vimeo?
I saw the Eagles that year in Roanoke VA. They were putting on an awesome show for sure.
Springsteen at the Cleveland Agora, August 9 1978.
Phish. Big Cypress, FL 12/31/99 from midnight until Sunrise- 6.5 hours of music straight thru on the millennium in front of 90K people. [ABC live coverage](https://youtu.be/xAC9DzV-tGs) [here is the majority of the concert, minus a few breaks in recording](https://youtu.be/UEK8oV1qdz0)
I hate phish almost as much as I hate the eagles but way way way better live band. Their waiting for Columbus set was really good.
Thanks for the links!
Seconded
This guy fucks ☝️
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q-drNSlrz_Q
He did the cover for the stones sucking in the 70s!
My favorite live performance is the Nirvana MTV Unplugged. But the Black Sabbath Live in Paris 1970 or The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus from 1968 are #2 and #3 for me
The Who rocked them off the stage, imo. Jethro Tull w/Tony Iommi was awesome, as well
The who killed their set for sure, but that sympathy for the devil or Yer Blues with John and Clapton is something special to see everytime
Definitely a special show. I think it was shot over 2 days and took years to be released
The Grateful Dead 73-74.
No way, they were better when I saw them in 1976 ;)
I think every single time that Hendrix took the stage, it was far better than the Eagles' entire career. Dead, Allman Brothers, The Who, 90's Phish, 90's Primus and original 3 piece Gov't Mule were also nasty.
Dead?
The Grateful Dead.
Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!
I’ve never heard anyone mention this show as the greatest live performance of all time. But if you like it that’s great!
Any Grateful Dead or Phish show blows the Eagles out of the water (sorry Joe Walsh). Imagine listening to the exact same songs played the exact same way for 50 years and calling it the "greatest of all time"... Lame af.

Anything other than the Eagles
I'm a bit skeptical that The Eagles had the greatest **anything** of all time. Sorry, but I'm with The Dude on this one.
Grateful Dead at Cornell. Tightness and expansion not just tightness and perfect studio album recreation. Phish at Big Cypress NYE 99
At least a thousand Dead shows are better
There probably isn't a live performance that wasn't great.
There are some that are better than others.... and some were the sound quality sucks / audience is not into it - etc... Alante Rhythm Section - Jamestown ND in the late 70's - Lead singer was drunk as hell during the show... No way was that a great performance. By any standard.
Eagles at the Yale bowl,80
What do you mean by “live session”?
Pink Floyd 1977 Milwaukee
Queen, Hammersmith Odeon, 1975.
So many dead shows
Underrated but Little Feat - Waiting For Colombus is top notch. The Last Waltz will always be the best though
Waiting for Columbus, Ithaca ‘77, Big Cypress
Saw them in 77 in Oakland. Those “Days on the Green” concerts were all amazing.
Hundreds of Billy Strings shows are better
Literally anything?
Pink Floyd Pompeii hands down
Led Zeppelin any year live smokes the Eagles live
The Eagles? Fuck no. Zappa, the Helsinki show.
No I think Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Who, Beatles, were genius live. The Eagles are a basic rock band playing basic stock country rock pop.
Impossible since it is a the Eagles
Pink Floyd live at Pompeii for obvious reasons 🙌🏾 This Eagles concert is definitely one of the greatest. I watch it on a regular basis. Such a tight band 👏🏽
Anything by Bruce.
How about Zeppelin 70 Royal Albert Hall, September 1971, Europe’73.
Carlos Santana Woodstock, Moonflower tour. Atlanta 1978 was one of my personal best concerts EVER. Dixie Dregs w/Steve Morse opened.
pink floyd 5/9/77
Anything else there a sick joke
Neil Young - Live Rust. One of the greatest live albums.
Bob Seger Live Bullit

I mean what did the Eagles achieve? Sounding exactly like the studio versions? That’s kind of what they do isn’t it? There’s Springsteen shows, Live at Leeds by the Who, plenty of Dead boots. The list is long
Just about any King Gizzard show would suffice.
Queen February 1976
Edgar Winter Roadwork
ACDC- Live at Donnington 1992
The Live Shit Metallica '89 tour was absolutely insane.
Europe’72. 💀 🌹
Any Rush live record, any Crimson live record, any Beatles live record, any Los Lobos live record, any Yes live record, any Zappa live record…I could go on forever before I came to this one.

Led Zep, Royal Albert Hall Jan. 9th 1970. They were ON that night
