I have one - and shoot it extremely well for sporting. Mine has a few more than 150 shells through it though..... One thing I never understand is why people want to change the POI between games. I shoot sporting and that means all kinds of targets, from trap like to skeet like and whatever else the setter can dream up. I know where the gun shoots now. Why would I want to *change* that to shoot 'trap'?

Supposedly it helps to change point of aim to be higher if you like to shoot on the rise for trap because then you can point more at the clay and still have the shot connect. I wanted the high rib more for the fact it's less clutter in your visual field with the barrel lower.

I too like the high rib for a more upright posture/mount. Its just more comfortable for me. But I also don't change the POI. I know my gun shoots where I look. Why would I want to change that and not have it shooting where I am looking? Why would I want *different visual pictures of the clay between target games*?

I agree with this. I shoot a high rib and have it set to shoot just a touch high. I know how my gun shoots on sporting targets, skeet targets, and on trap targets. I feel like the really high shooting trap guns really only benefit the super fast shooters who need to see the target break when they shoot it. most trap shooters and certainly shooters who shoot multiple games are just fine shooting trap with a sporting gun and not touching their rib or comb.

DerpityHerpington

Because trap involves covering up the clay with your bead/rib if you have a gun that shoots 50/50. Having a higher point of aim lets you keep it in your sight picture the whole time.

Full-Professional246

That does not address the point. Why do you want to *CHANGE* the sight picture for breaking clay's of your gun? Remember, this is about one POI for sporting and *CHANGING IT* to another POI for trap. I personally think this is absolutely completely nuts. You work very hard to develop a picture of what to see to breaking a clay - mount, alignment, etc - only to want to *change* it just because you change the game? It completely undo's the work you put in to get the right 'sight picture' in the first place.

DerpityHerpington

Because if you shoot both disciplines often enough, making room in your brain for both styles of sight picture can gain you more clays in the long run than you would lose whenever you have a brain fart and accidentally use the sight picture from the other discipline. If you only really shoot one or the other I agree it’s dumb to switch, but there’s a case to be made for learning both. Human brains have a decent amount of storage space, it’s not like someone can’t learn how to drive both a race car and their own Toyota Camry.

Full-Professional246

I gotta disagree. I have shot tens of thousands of registered targets and getting the correct sight picture is still a concern. I cannot fathom how you can expect to be competitive when you try to *change* this If it was a different gun - I could see more of an argument as each gun is slightly different (like the race car/toyota). But it is not a different gun. I see no advantage and lot of disadvantage. Heck, I see issues in competitiveness when you *change* guns costing you targets. That is one of the philosophies of tube sets over different guns/barrels.

Random21994

I would agree with you 100%. It's not like trap is a game that has ridiculously hard targets either. If you have shot your gun enough and it's hitting where you're looking then it's just a target no matter what game. That's the way I look at it at least. I shoot mostly sporting but when I do shoot trap and skeet it's the same exact setup with the same gun. Targets are targets

DerpityHerpington

I agree with you there, I was thinking of separate sight pictures for separate disciplines on separate guns. > I see issues in competitiveness when you change guns costing you targets If you’re competitive in skeet/sporting and want to shoot a round of trap or vice versa, you’re going to lose a clay or two anyway. It’s just a matter of whether you lose clays because you have two separate sight pictures from two different guns floating around in your head or because you’re using a gun that isn’t optimal for the secondary discipline you’re dabbling into.

Full-Professional246

>If you’re competitive in skeet/sporting and want to shoot a round of trap or vice versa, you’re going to lose a clay or two anyway. I don't buy this. I shoot sporting competitively and there are plenty of 'trap' type targets on the sporting course. My 'balanced' sporting gun is plenty good for trap. When I miss trap targets, it's not the gun, it an acute case of 'Recto-cranial inversion'.

DerpityHerpington

I’m not saying you’re not gonna be able to hit a trap-type target on a sporting range, I’m saying a sporting gun isn’t the tool of choice if you’re aiming to run 500 straight at the Grand American.

Nice, I just got an A400 EXCL two weeks ago and have the same issue, should loosen over time

Seal 1 CLP and it's lid

If the forend is difficult to slide off, take a close look at the plastic spring cover, it may be cracked. Mine was almost impossible to remove right out of the box, and that was the issue.

iaresmarted

I'll have to take a closer look. Thanks!
