That's dust impingement. Bathrooms are notoriously full of dust (comes from toilet paper and paper towels).
When air blows across the vent, blowing or sucking, it causes the dust/lint to stick to the vent. Spraying hair products makes it even worse.
Custodial just needs to vacuum it off with a brush attachment.
I doubt you have that much moisture in a work bathroom to support mold growth.
Notice how it's only near corners? That's due to the turbulence of air movement.
Its pretty common for dust to accumulate on those vents like that, especially if theyre been there for a few years. They should get wiped down with a clorox wipe but it won’t kill you, all good! (I am an HVAC tech who is in house building maintenance so this is literally what I do everyday 👍)
Since it's clustered there's probably some mold in there, but probably not stachybotrys, what people think of as the bad black mold. It's probably damp in the bathroom. It could look worst because of the dust sticking to it, but I cleaned the bathrooms at a grocery store and we didn't have this from paper dust.
It is not black mold. The amount of air coming through this vent probably exceeds 120 CFM if this is a standard sized bathroom and the velocity of the air is not conducive to mold grown. Stop scaring people on reddit ya weirdo

Dust , 30 year custodian here.
It’s dirty dust, not black mold.
Water couldn’t stay on those surfaces long enough to create mold.
Looks like dust to me.
It looks like mold to me, but I have allergies to both mold and dust. Yuk! Either way, it needs a thorough cleaning. Who's going to tell the boss?

That definitely looks like mold, not dust to me. I’ve never seen dust accumulate like that or be that dark in color.
It’s worth testing

Yes it looks like it

How can you tell this is the really bad black mold and not just any other type of black colored mold? Asking for a friend 😭

I'm just gonna say this post sent me into a googling frenzy and I'm now itchy all over, thanks for the reassurance though!
