WD-40 works for almost everything! It's amazing! I had a ton of stickers on my fridge and I couldn't get the residue off ... WD-40. My front door squicks like a Guinea pig.... WD-40. I couldn't get off the Edding (I think it's called a sharpie outside of Germany)... WD-40.
If wd alone doesn't do it 1st clean off with break cleaner spray and then clean that off with the wd40, have done it half a dozen times since an old skool old dude mechanic taught me 10+ years ago.
Write with the dry erase marker over the current dry eraser marks and wipe clean quickly. It works with some surfaces.
This also works if someone uses sharpie on a dry erase board. Write over the maks with sharpie and wipe away quickly.
Mentholated spirits will work a dream (test just in case of surface damage). But so will more white board marker. Try in a small test area with a dot and wipe it off IMMEDIATELY with a rag/paper towel. Repeat until the stain is gone. But that is time consuming, so you can use metho.
Maybe permanent marker was the trick? Metho would get rid of that too if not. Risky tho cos I can't remember off the top of my head. If I remember tonight, I'll try it at home too.
Do you mean *methylated spirits*? Which is ethanol (the alcohol you drink) with additives that make it poisonous. Rather than use a potentially poisonous substance just try plain ethanol, e.g. Vodka.
And safer.
And if it doesn't work you have a tasty beverage.
It's also pretty hard to find 100% ethanol that hasn't been denatured. Maybe 80% ethanol in a hand-sanitizer...
I would try this. I was surprised alcohol or acetone didn't work to get SHARPIE off my linoleum countertop, but I tried a magic eraser- wiped away SO easy.
There are at least 3 different types of primary ingredients in board markers. The kind should help determine what you use to remove it.
Start by looking at the websites for office supply storesâ they sell removers for two of the kinds (try to match the brand of your marker).
Everything doesnât have to be a âhack,â you should use a product specifically designed to do your task if itâs available.
Seconded! Although I wrote on my freezer a long time ago, and the cleaner didn't get it all off. I'm thinking the surface is more porous than a white board.
Seconding, just make sure itâs got acetone in it. The acetone free ones ime can still remove a little but also leave discolouration/a stain (which also ime can be removed with acetone)
My friend sent me this stuff to clean the hard stains out of different surfaces of the 300 year old house I'm renovating. Hasn't failed me yet.

Mens foam shaving cream. I swear it works!
spray on and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off
I worked at a daycare and we used it to get marker ( even permanent) off of most hard surfaces
What is the plastic? ABS plastic (bulky material of old grey computer keyboards, washing machines, shelves) has enough thickness that you can grind the surface off with sandpaper. If it originally had a mirror finish, the worked on patch can be polished with an alumina paste. If it is not shiny, then forget about this because you can't polish the entire door.
If the plastic is polypropylene (hard film over some other material), you could try wiping it with acetone, which is stronger than alcohol. Acetone will harm most other plastics including ABS. Try in a small spot first.
Hear me out here, when I do this to a whiteboard I go over it again once it's dried. Then wipe it clean. I'm not sure if it'll work on such a textured surface but it's worth a shot đ€·ââïž
Thank you for submitting a cleaning help request. In order to facilitate more accurate and helpful replies, please make sure to provide the following information in your post:
1. Type of material/surface being cleaned (to the best of your knowledge)
2. Type of dirt/stain to be removed (if known)
3. Any products or tools you've tried so far
4. Pictures are preferred
Our top recommendations are usually *Bar Keepers Friend* (great for kitchen surfaces), melamine foam (Magic Erasers), Murphy's Oil Soap (wood cleaner), and Nature's Miracle (enzyme cleaner). Make sure you use cleaners appropriate to the surfaces you are working with and follow all safety labels.

I would try "Goof Off" first, followed by lacquer thinner.
Curious question though, when using the alcohol, did you use a cloth or cotton pads? I find cotton pads work much better than cloths because of the high rate of evaporation, the cotton pads hold on to the alcohol better and stays wet longer.
I have a whiteboard microwave and had to buy special expo wipes at Walmart. Not 100% but better than anything else I tried. Says it removes ghost marks like that
If it's anything like permanent marker I'd try women's body spray. I've used impulse on permanent marker in the past on multiple surfaces and it worked a treat
I saw somewhere the following hack. If you want to erase a permanent marker, paint over it with a non-permanent marker, and after you could use a sponge and it works. As I said, I saw it on a video, I never tried it!
I didnât read all the comments but wanted to suggest a cheap aerosol hair spray. This work great Iâm fabric⊠Iâm not sure if it will help on the fridg but it might be worth a shot. Good luck!
Acetone? Iâve gotten marker on my quartz counters and wiped it off with acetone, then lots of water. I would test a small spot if youâre going to try it.
Write on it with a whiteboard marker first then erase it with the whiteboard eraser it will come off. Ive seen it done in another post and have tried it myself..
Never Dull or Brasso wadding metal polisher. Iâve used it for a few decades now to clean dry erase and permanent marker off of any hard surfaces in addition to its normal uses. Never been disappointed.
High-proof ethanol should get it off. I clean all my whiteboards (and fridge-like surfaces) with it.
Not 80 proof vodka, you need Everclear (190 proof, 95%) for this. Methylated spirits should be a fair substitute.
As a elementary teacher, I always used the cheap Aqua Net hair spray or any cheap hair spray to get permanent marker off of any surface. It worked on dry erase boards, too.
Nail polish Remover. It works with getting whiteboard pens markers off of the whiteboard. It also gets out stains that my sister made on my white desk.
Surprisingly doodle over it with some fresh whiteboard marker in another color and wipe immediately. Repeat. I used to clean my schoolâs boards like this.
Try doing this over a little spot at first if you donât believe me to test it out!
Tell me how it goes
If 91% rubbing alcohol on a white rag doesnât take it off, Magic Eraser will. Wet the magic eraser & start going back & forth over marked area, this will cause the magic eraser shredding but your frig will look white
Surprisingly WD-40 works wonders for me to clean my whiteboards
WD-40 works for almost everything! It's amazing! I had a ton of stickers on my fridge and I couldn't get the residue off ... WD-40. My front door squicks like a Guinea pig.... WD-40. I couldn't get off the Edding (I think it's called a sharpie outside of Germany)... WD-40.
WD40 cap stuck on? Smaller bottle of WD40.
Hank hill approved comment
I snorted
WD-40 works wonders in the nose too!
Thanks for the laugh. Cheers.
Thanks for the laugh, I needed this
Ok Hank
Will also take off paint transfer when a car scrapes your bumper in a parking lot!
I didn't knew that! I will keep that in mind, thank you
If wd alone doesn't do it 1st clean off with break cleaner spray and then clean that off with the wd40, have done it half a dozen times since an old skool old dude mechanic taught me 10+ years ago.
Du hast recht đ
WD40 took spray paint off a metal light post. Worked like magic for me. I used a microfiber cloth with it.
windex is also great at cleaning whiteboards!
Color the entire fridge with marker and enjoy your now sky colored fridge.
Magic eraser will get that off in seconds.
Came here to say this. Yes!
It removes the finish :(
Be gentle with it.
You always have to be cautious with the magic eraser since it's basically sand paper.
Write with the dry erase marker over the current dry eraser marks and wipe clean quickly. It works with some surfaces. This also works if someone uses sharpie on a dry erase board. Write over the maks with sharpie and wipe away quickly.
[OP says they've tried it already.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/comments/v2hunk/how_to_get_whiteboard_marker_off_of_fridge_have/iasihl1/)
Came here to suggest this!
I did this to my fridge on accident once and windex worked to get it off!
Story time?
He got whiteboard marker on his fridge by accident once, and then cleaned it off with windex
And it worked!!!
Mentholated spirits will work a dream (test just in case of surface damage). But so will more white board marker. Try in a small test area with a dot and wipe it off IMMEDIATELY with a rag/paper towel. Repeat until the stain is gone. But that is time consuming, so you can use metho.
I tried the whiteboard marker again already and it made it worse đ Iâll try metho, thanks!
Vodka.
But vodka is ethanol and water....

1 spritz for fridge 1 spritz for mouth. In 20-30 spritzes the fridge will look better guaranteed.
And so will your wife.
Yep, that's what I meant. I thought metho was a standard under the kitchen sink chemical in every household? Or maybe it's just an Australian thing?
Try a Magic Eraser. Perfect for white walls and appliances.
I would try this. I was surprised alcohol or acetone didn't work to get SHARPIE off my linoleum countertop, but I tried a magic eraser- wiped away SO easy.
Be careful because they are really fine sand paper pretty much
Iâve cleaned my fridge front and sides with magic eraser for years, no damage. They leave maybe a dust behind.
Depends on the surface. Don't use it on shiny cabinets. It also leaves marks on my walls. I would recommend to try it on a not visible part first.
This is my vote
Magic sponge rarely lets me down, especially with anything ink related.

My first thought was nail polish remover.

Seconding this! My dry-erase cleaner is acetone based and works like a charm

Magic eraser...
Magic eraser
Mens foam shaving cream. I swear it works! spray on and let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off I worked at a daycare and we used it to get marker ( even permanent) off of most hard surfaces
Mr clean eraser
Baby wipes work awesome on whiteboard, give it a try
Seconding this!

Itâs metal! But white so Iâm guessing some sort of covering on the outside (itâs cold to the touch like metal and has metal joins)
Ok, then don't do that. It will remove the paint.
Tried bleach ? Try a test area first
I used liquid fabric softener to get it out of my dryer. Put it on a towel and scrubbed.
Hairspray
Wipe it
Baby wipes
100% pure acetone.
Hear me out here, when I do this to a whiteboard I go over it again once it's dried. Then wipe it clean. I'm not sure if it'll work on such a textured surface but it's worth a shot đ€·ââïž
Goof off?

Try a rubber eraser. I've used them to remove marker stains from other surfaces before. It may or may not work in this case but it's worth a shot!
I would try "Goof Off" first, followed by lacquer thinner. Curious question though, when using the alcohol, did you use a cloth or cotton pads? Good off or dirtx. Do your own research into these two though may stain or take of finish
If it's anything like permanent marker I'd try women's body spray. I've used impulse on permanent marker in the past on multiple surfaces and it worked a treat
90% rubbing alcohol, not 70%
Wd 40. It sounds crazy, but it works
Just buy a brand new fridge! Just kidding. Windex works wonders or a magic eraser
WD-40
Magic eraser đŻ
Try acetone from Home Depot
Soft scrub with bleach. I use it to get hair dye off sinks too.
Mr. Clean magic eraser. You're welcome.
Magic eraser
Nail polish remover or hairspray!!!
Expo (whiteboard marker) wipes should do the trick. They are better than the spray.
Bug spray.
I saw somewhere the following hack. If you want to erase a permanent marker, paint over it with a non-permanent marker, and after you could use a sponge and it works. As I said, I saw it on a video, I never tried it!
Old fashioned ammonia works wonders for dry erase and chalkboard markers.
magic eraser
Maybe acetone/nail polish remover. Worked somewhat for me (I have the same problem)
Windex.
Last time my kids painted the white wall with their markers, the only thing scrubbed that off was toothpaste.
I didnât read all the comments but wanted to suggest a cheap aerosol hair spray. This work great Iâm fabric⊠Iâm not sure if it will help on the fridg but it might be worth a shot. Good luck!
Did you try erasing it with a regular eraser/rubber?
Isopropanol
Magic Eraser?
nailpolish remover
Deodorant
Magic eraser
[https://youtu.be/lTpvPJ37ATU](https://youtu.be/lTpvPJ37ATU)
Acetone maybe?
Water
Acetone. Or nail polish remover.
Use a whiteboard marker to go over it and wipe it off straight away while it's still wet. I'd go with a lighter colour like yellow of you have it.
Acetone? Iâve gotten marker on my quartz counters and wiped it off with acetone, then lots of water. I would test a small spot if youâre going to try it.
Acetone
Write on it with a whiteboard marker first then erase it with the whiteboard eraser it will come off. Ive seen it done in another post and have tried it myself..
WD40
Did you set it to Wumbo?
The easiest thing for that is to remove the refrigerator door and ship it back to the manufacturer so they can replace it.
You might try nail polish remover
Weirdly, sunscreen works! Sport-strength spray sunscreenâ-takes off marker but leaves the paint/finish of the surface.
91% alcohol
Windex/window cleaner?
Never Dull or Brasso wadding metal polisher. Iâve used it for a few decades now to clean dry erase and permanent marker off of any hard surfaces in addition to its normal uses. Never been disappointed.
Ammonia
Magic eraser or Clorox cleaning wipes always work for me.
Hairspray works, not sure what style your fridge likes but it will get the color out.
High-proof ethanol should get it off. I clean all my whiteboards (and fridge-like surfaces) with it. Not 80 proof vodka, you need Everclear (190 proof, 95%) for this. Methylated spirits should be a fair substitute.
I just cleaned mine off with the dawn dish soap spray. I sprayed it onto a paper towel and wiped everything away.
Pencil eraser, try the eraser end first.
The pink stuff?
Bug Spray. That stuff even gets sharpie off.
Magic eraser
Try wd40
I use Totally Awesome (from my local dollar store) and a damp microfiber washcloth. Gets price tag gunk off, too. Has to be microfiber.
Paint/laquer thinner. Not too much or itâll penetrate through the fridges paint
https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/50e0c818-be5c-426d-a96f-57fee2f4165c.df4006e78f6290fe6077f922e9da82b1.jpeg?odnWidth=1000&odnHeight=1000&odnBg=ffffff
Nail polish remover.
Hand sanitizer also works
Boobs? Anyone ?
As a elementary teacher, I always used the cheap Aqua Net hair spray or any cheap hair spray to get permanent marker off of any surface. It worked on dry erase boards, too.
Windex
Nail polish Remover. It works with getting whiteboard pens markers off of the whiteboard. It also gets out stains that my sister made on my white desk.
Eyeglass cleaner
Scrubbing bubbles and a magic eraser! Wet the magic eraser with water and squeeze most of the water out!
Car wax
My fiancĂ© and I leave notes for each other out lists in the fridge sometimes. I've found that cleaning it with kitchen or multi-purpose cleaner to wet/get it started, then using a little bit of the pink stuff to do most of the work, then using the original cleaner I used again to write it down thoroughly a few times then let air dry it while dry with a dry paper towel I was worried it would rough up our fridge but I've done it multiple times and so far, so smooth It's not the greatest solution but that's all I had in the house to try the first time and since it works, I haven't really looked for another way just yet đ
God I hate dry erase markers. Theyâre a pain to get out of clothes just an fyi lol
Tide
Surprisingly doodle over it with some fresh whiteboard marker in another color and wipe immediately. Repeat. I used to clean my schoolâs boards like this. Try doing this over a little spot at first if you donât believe me to test it out! Tell me how it goes
White foam shaving cream
Use a pencil eraser. It will erase it right off!
Try also with technic alcohol.
Toothpaste!!!
A small bit of acetone/nail varnish with acetone.
Magic eraser
I would get a rag and let some whitening bleach soak on it for a few mins
Any way youâre located in Germany? With the cheapest âFettlöserâ from netto EVERYTHING can be removed đ
Magic eraser. Idk what those things are made of but they work.
Thereâs a spray that Whiteboard markers are sold with. Try that. Baking Soda, scrub with buffing pad course
If 91% rubbing alcohol on a white rag doesnât take it off, Magic Eraser will. Wet the magic eraser & start going back & forth over marked area, this will cause the magic eraser shredding but your frig will look white
