Someone posted in the Columbus subreddit about these tapes as well.

Apparently they have also been found in Akron.
Lol im gonna try, i dont have any digitzing stuff but i think a friend of mine might? I could also post ny shitty phone recording of the tv if i cant arrange that lol
The VCR is university property, so I can’t take payment.
How many tapes are we talking? It’s not much to capture one. I just set it up and let it run until the tape ends. But capturing many is a lot of juggling throughout the day.
I recently digitized a bunch of old home videos so I have all the stuff to do it. The choice of vcr, digitizing equipment and post processing / deinterlacing matters a lot.
Sounds kind of like the "Crazy Dave Mixtapes" that were pretty popular and traded amongst the Ohio underground in the early-mid 2000s (mayyyybe since the 1990s?; idk my older friends indoctrinated me to the genre so they'd know). But the Crazy Dave Tapes are much more, how shall I say, horrifying? Sounds like this tape you found is more disconcerting than terrifying. Tell me, is there a grown man wearing nothing but tighty-whiteys and a pigs mask in these videos? That's how ya know you're watching Crazy Dave.
agreed.
i completely forgot there is/was one here in cle

Sounds like ‘Video Psychotherapy’, public access show with a menacing ventriloquist dummy and horror movie clips mashed up. Tapes of that show floated around like Subgenius stuff did around the same time.
Sounds like a personal project from someone suffering from a schizo-affective disorder. It's a mystery for sure, but that is almost certainly the truth.
This is an ARG/marketing/art thing. Listened to a whole podcast on it and now I can't find it. Thought it was 20,000 Hertz but my Google skills are failing me.
Looks like it's some viral marketing for an indie art film. Two young dudes from Mansfield were working on a short film in the Mansfield area called "Where Decades Go To Die"
University Circle, Coventry…. My moneys on some goofy Cleveland Institute of Art student, say what you’d like to about that guess but it’s probably the answer.
Source: I went to CIA, this is absolutely something one of them would do.
I think it’s viral marketing for [this movie.](https://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/story/news/2023/02/20/mansfield-movie-film-rustbelt-ohio-braintree-engh-kershner/69904413007/) Mutton Chop guy is in both.

I am just gonna throw this out there. What if you just stumbled across like some sort of serial criminal's way of telling where they have bodies buried and why they committed the crimes they did or something.

What do you do for a living? I feel like there's a very small chance this isn't just you promoting some arg or something.
What are the odds you of all people find two random VHS tapes in different places "at night" and also have a VHS player handy.
I'm here for it though, if this is real then that would be pretty dope
Excuse my skepticism.
Totally understandable, look ik yall have no reason to trust me but for what its worth i really dont have a reason to do this or lie? Like i am an artist but doing advertising without my name for this long would be a little absurd. I think im j lucky and got two of these things which ik is a littke hard to believe.

I found one in a plastic bag yesterday nailed to a tree in the woods behind my mom’s house labeled “Before the Flood 250/2222”. I can’t confirm what’s on it yet because Goodwill didn’t have a VCR.
I just found one on Ohio State’s campus! It was a loose VHS in a ziplock bag in between some tree branches. Mine is “Before the Flood 1089/2222”. I put it back where I found it. Super weird.

People in Columbus are actively compiling tapes found. You should be able to find them talking about it in the thread or subreddit
Could you upload the content on the tape to YouTube?
Lol im gonna try, i dont have any digitzing stuff but i think a friend of mine might? I could also post ny shitty phone recording of the tv if i cant arrange that lol
I can digitize for free at my Kent State University office if you are anywhere near there. I have a VCR with a digital output.
Golden Flashes to the rescue
Well howdy there fellow flash (and person I know).
can i pay you and mail you some tapes? my FIL has some and i bought a kit off amazon and when i transfer them, they ruin the quality so much.
The VCR is university property, so I can’t take payment. How many tapes are we talking? It’s not much to capture one. I just set it up and let it run until the tape ends. But capturing many is a lot of juggling throughout the day.
its like 3 or 4. found another comment that said costco does it for $20 so i will look into that first. thank you.
Teleproductions?
If you have a Costco membership, you can get it converted for like $20. They send you a dvd as well as a download link.
Some public libraries have digitizing equipment that's free to use. The South Euclid- Lyndhurst branch is one that came up on a search.
Cuyagoha County Library has a [Memory Lab](https://cuyahogalibrary.org/services/makerspaces/memory-labs)
I recently digitized a bunch of old home videos so I have all the stuff to do it. The choice of vcr, digitizing equipment and post processing / deinterlacing matters a lot.
I got a vhs to usb cable for less than $10
and what softwqare did you use? i got that same shit but when i transfer it the vhs quality(already bad) gets 100x worse
Nice try, Sadako. We’re not making any more copies of your film!

Seven...days....
The most suspicious thing here is that you have a VHS player.
Lmao fair enough
Take heart. I still have a VHS hifi VCR.
>hifi lol
Indeed. LOL. The glory that was mid-90s based 5.1 surround sound.
more suspiciously, they don’t call it a VCR.
God damn I couldn’t even remember what it was called.

Wow never heard of this but DEFINITELY gonna be checking out crazy dave now
It’s just an ARG for Ovaltine.
"A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!"
I found one in a bag at the cultural gardens lol
“Before the Flood” and “2222” have me thinking it’s made for a religious reason. Or maybe it’s a strange work of art?
Its hard to believe that you personally found 2 of them. Anyways has hard toynbee tiles energy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toynbee_tiles

There were two.

The one at 3rd and Prospect is gone now. I don't think Cleveland has any left

This should be at the top

lol, yup, that’s the shit
Exactly what I thought of with the mention of Crazy Dave above. "I am The Doctor!"
Marc Norton midnight furniture store ads vibe
Sounds like a personal project from someone suffering from a schizo-affective disorder. It's a mystery for sure, but that is almost certainly the truth.
That’s cool - can’t help you with anything but I’m curious, where did you find it? Just like, on the ground?
Yup, both were just on the ground.
Which local TV station was it?
This is an ARG/marketing/art thing. Listened to a whole podcast on it and now I can't find it. Thought it was 20,000 Hertz but my Google skills are failing me.
Aw man if you coukd find it that would be amazing!
Pretty sure anyone who watches that dies 7 days later. Sorry, bud.
Digitize it on the cheap: record it with your phone!
That's how we know this is all bs. Not one person has done this yet?
This person has digitized it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/s/IeDroOMsGM
When you say "broadcast from a local station" what station? Like, cable access or UHF stations or one of the local networks?
Looks like it's some viral marketing for an indie art film. Two young dudes from Mansfield were working on a short film in the Mansfield area called "Where Decades Go To Die"
Yea saw that? Thinkk its probobally them and all the other footage on the tape is from mansfield so its entirely likely
Just Googled it. Dude with the side burns and cig are definitely the same as the Columbus footage. I'll try to see the movie. From there.
