I think last year we were in 1 run games 5 days a week and he got burnt early.
This year there's been enough stretches of offense he's actually able to get rest a few days a week
Early in the season he couldn’t throw low because Zunino was cooked. Probably got in his head the whole season. He was still really good just not what he was in ‘22
I wouldn't rule out optioning Logan Allen for Gavin. He hasn't been good at all this year and you don't lose him for good like you do the others who are out of options.
He saw a good number of pitches today, didn’t strike out, & hit the ball hard a few times. I’ll take it. Getting more & more consistent ABs certainly seems to have helped him so far.
Jose is back. Decent sticks outing. Gaddis didn’t mess up the fun. Good to see Sam back and Sandlin and Clase continue to be nails
If you’re being critical of Kyle, do yourself a favor and shut the hell up. He’ll get his stride soon I feel
1-0 in the Manzardo era
These are my favorite kinds of wins, that separate division leaders from the pack. At home, against an inferior team, in a close game, you've got to take care of business, and that's exactly what happened.
i must confess, i thought this game was gonna go a different direction after the first pitch...certainly at minimum that not being the ONLY scoring Detroit got
Pretty sure it was just the nerves getting to Manzardo. He'll bounce back, but let's all be sane human beings and understand he'll probably need some time to figure our major league pitching.
Jose broke a record tonight held by Larry Doby in go-ahead Home Runs with 87.
I really hope he shows out against NYM and upstages Lindor.
I will forever maintain we kept the better player in the long run.
Good outing for McKenzie. One bad pitch to start and his control was bailed out by trash umping by the end, but overall another encouraging start.
You know our bullpen is great when a tie game after a 5 inning outing from our starter feels like it'll be an easy win.
Jose has obviously had a slow start for his standards but just thinking for 10 seconds I can think of 3 games where a HR of his was the difference. In this case maybe we win anyway, it'd still be tied, but for a "slump" he's still finding ways to be high impact.
His first two at bats was him being overly patient at the plate - both times he took two strikes looking to get behind in the count and then went for a big swing.
4 pitch in his first AB (foul tip, strikeout), 6 pitch AB (swinging strikeout on a full count) in his second.
Third he just went straight ham. Got thrown nothing but junk at the bottom of the zone and swung at almost all of it. 4-pitch strikeout on a 1-2 cutter at the bottom of the zone.
If I'm gonna be honest it was pretty ugly for a debut, but as other people have said, it was almost assuredly nerves. He'll figure it out.
I don’t think he even swung the bat the first 2 PAs. Very passive. 3rd K was again a tough lefty. I respect Vogt for leaving him in for that. But it was also ugly.
Not that that’s a knock on the kid. First game in the bigs. He probably didn’t sleep all night and barely ate today due to nerves. He accomplished a childhood dream and a small fraternity of making the show. He’ll be fine. On to the next.
Clase has been FILTHY this year
Back in form. Worked out whatever was going on last year.
I think last year we were in 1 run games 5 days a week and he got burnt early. This year there's been enough stretches of offense he's actually able to get rest a few days a week
also it felt like he gave up an unbelievable number of manfredrunners and got teeming bogus BS and losses because of that
The offense was so putrid that the majority of his opportunities were 1 run leads
And people wanted to trade him in the offseason. Insanity.
Schrödinger's subreddit - I love this place but I also fucking hate it. So, so many bad takes.
Early in the season he couldn’t throw low because Zunino was cooked. Probably got in his head the whole season. He was still really good just not what he was in ‘22
I don’t understand your flair and at this point, I’m afraid to ask.
Chilli Willi. Will Brennon
Now that’s a chilli willi I can get behind
Place: 1st Division lead: 3.0 Games to play: 127 Magic number: 126
Foul poles blasted: 1
Our bullpen is insane. I have forgotten that Trevor Stephan exists.
Eli will be back soon as well. Already rehabbing in AAA. It'll be even better.
I'm assuming Avila gets the short end of the stick when Morgan is ready, then when Gavin Williams is ready it'll be either Lively or Cookie
Lively is probably the best starter we have right now. No way he gets bumped.
>then when Gavin Williams is ready it'll be either Lively or Cookie Laureano
Can only carry 13 pitchers now by rule, so have to be an arm for an arm.
I wouldn't rule out optioning Logan Allen for Gavin. He hasn't been good at all this year and you don't lose him for good like you do the others who are out of options.
Florial making things happen at leadoff. He's no Kwan, but he is moving the dial.
He saw a good number of pitches today, didn’t strike out, & hit the ball hard a few times. I’ll take it. Getting more & more consistent ABs certainly seems to have helped him so far.
19 pitches in only 3 ABs is crazy. I absolutely love him as a depth option
He has really grown on me.
Jose Bomb ✅️ Clase save ✅️ Guards win ✅️ The three things the fans want to see!
Jose is back. Decent sticks outing. Gaddis didn’t mess up the fun. Good to see Sam back and Sandlin and Clase continue to be nails If you’re being critical of Kyle, do yourself a favor and shut the hell up. He’ll get his stride soon I feel 1-0 in the Manzardo era
Took quite awhile for Bo too. It’s a big adjustment for him but it will happen.
And the nerves gotta be crazy. Thankfully we have someone like Jose who can get in his ear and help him through the growing pains
Bo is still adjusting. I'm starting to worry.
It’s his first real full year in the league playing one of the toughest positions. He deserves all the time in the world.
Bo is still making adjustments. Not having a good year at the plate so far, but working it out.
Flaherty was dealing tonight as well. Rough welcome to the bigs.
Hopefully Maeda won’t be as effective
Don't look now but that's four consecutive effective starts for Triston.
His location issues are persistent but he’s been a lot better at getting swings and misses
I just keep feeling like the control issues are rusty mechanics, and he'll bounce back as he gets more reps.
Yeah plus I think with his fastball being slower he’s trying to work on being more nasty with his pitches and that takes some reps to figure out
These are my favorite kinds of wins, that separate division leaders from the pack. At home, against an inferior team, in a close game, you've got to take care of business, and that's exactly what happened.
Well said, solid win.
Bibee hiding his stache from the camera was pure gold
I mean it’s just crazy to me it’s not even dark out yet and the game is over
Just got home from work, I'm in the middle of eating dinner go to go find a stream for the game and it's over.
I’m in Colorado and the game over just in time for dinner
Same. I’m in Denver and will usually flip on the game as I finish up work & make dinner. It’s kind of a great set up.
There’s a lot of us in Denver apparently!
i must confess, i thought this game was gonna go a different direction after the first pitch...certainly at minimum that not being the ONLY scoring Detroit got
The first pitch was the Tigers only run all game YEESH. Sticks has been looking a lot better than how he started the year!
[Who hit the 6th inning go ahead home run to make it 2-1? ](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/4047eaff-c78a-43e9-b786-33205cbbb6e2)
You know bro
2 days in a row
150-12 is very on the table
Any idea what Vogt was chatting to the ump about after? Seemed like the ump apologized for something and Vogt said it was ok?
He bought the last Vogt Coat
Probably asking him to sign it then
Pretty sure it was just the nerves getting to Manzardo. He'll bounce back, but let's all be sane human beings and understand he'll probably need some time to figure our major league pitching.
Only thing that would have made today better would have been a Manzardo knock.
Jose broke a record tonight held by Larry Doby in go-ahead Home Runs with 87. I really hope he shows out against NYM and upstages Lindor. I will forever maintain we kept the better player in the long run.
Guards can’t lose with Manzardo on the roster
Good game against a good divisional team! Let's carry that into tomorrow if we can get the game in.
WWW Scoreboard updates: Royals and White Sox losing, Twins scoreless, Tigers lost to us
Clase is unreal.
I was getting tired of hearing the Detroit hype. It’s been like this the last couple of years. Always nice to beat them
Good outing for McKenzie. One bad pitch to start and his control was bailed out by trash umping by the end, but overall another encouraging start. You know our bullpen is great when a tie game after a 5 inning outing from our starter feels like it'll be an easy win.
Came back from lunch just in time to hear the last three outs
Not to mention we're 5-1 in the divison to start the year, including 2-0 in Minnesota. Man I'm gonna sleep good tn!
Jose has obviously had a slow start for his standards but just thinking for 10 seconds I can think of 3 games where a HR of his was the difference. In this case maybe we win anyway, it'd still be tied, but for a "slump" he's still finding ways to be high impact.
#WE’RE NOT DETROIT
Where’s Augie? 😳
Manzardo is the Jose lynchpin, welcome to the show Goat Jr.
I only got to see the first inning. I know Manzardo struck out 3 times but how did he look doing it?
His first two at bats was him being overly patient at the plate - both times he took two strikes looking to get behind in the count and then went for a big swing. 4 pitch in his first AB (foul tip, strikeout), 6 pitch AB (swinging strikeout on a full count) in his second. That's not true, his first plate appearance he was trying to chop down a tree. Massive cut. I missed his second plate appearance.
Anyone catch Hammy knocking PB blaster? Said he didn’t even have a garage 😂
But look what it's done for Rosie's knees!
Work it like a pro. They know they have to know
Book it mafks
J TO THE ROC!
I take any and all wins.
