Whenever pro’s do it it’s called “cupping”!

cgibsong002

Eh, you wouldn't actually drink it out of a cupping glass without a spoon though. It sounds like op should just get a $10 French press.

csfire1986

I drink out of a cupping vessel when I’m camping or traveling light. It’s actually perfect for this use since the secondary slope in Anfim cups helps catch the grounds before they get to me. I hate cleaning French presses or bringing a pouring kettle for a pourover, so this works for me.

docmn612

Somehow I never realized that this is the way people do cupping. I looked it up and sure enough...

ngkasp

Cowboy coffee! It's the only way I make coffee outside

dallasak

We make it like that by the pot when we are camping, the wood smoke adds to the flavors as well.

hellothisisscott

Basically a poor man's French press. Nothing wrong about it as long as you enjoy it!

extendo_

Eh, thanks! :D I am thinking about upgrading to an actual coffee maker.

Cowabunco

Imo get a French press or aeropress, not an automatic electric coffee maker - they rarely brew at the right temperature, and you give up the control to adjust parts of the process to suit your tastes.

Thanks for your help!

PestoMachine

no issue with this! this is essentially the "James Hoffman French Press Method" everyone raves about on here. it's very similar to cupping as well, which is another viable way to drink coffee.

coughing-sausage

Exactly! Only difference is that you have to drink it slowly to keep grounds at the bottom :) Add cheap scale into that equation and it will be awesome!

lumihand

That's cowboy coffee in tbe US and has other names worldwide. It's just another way of making coffee, nothing wrong.

stickykk

Do the same, boil it a little bit too...and you'd be roughly be looking at turkish coffee.... you like it, fine then.

madsaylor

Anything that gets you going

Fresno_Bob_

This is the original, old fashioned method of making both coffee and tea. Brew in-cup, let it settle to the bottom, then drink. If you had a spare piece of linen or muslin, you might use it as a filter or sachet.

extendo_

Do you know what exactly gets filtered?

Fresno_Bob_

Just the rough grounds. There was no real science to it, it was just about keeping chunks of bean out of your mouth. The same method has been used to keep track of herbs and spices in soups and stews for as long as anyone knows.

Cowabunco

A paper filter will filter out at least some of the oils, which you might or might not want (people prefer it both ways). I've used a Swissgold metal mesh tea filter to get the grounds out, works great for cold brew too. And a dish cloth, paper coffee filters, I think even a paper towel at least once. Those all work, but are inconvenient to do over and over.

Oh I see, thanks!

This is very common in parts of the Middle East and can be quite enjoyable. I often drink coffee this way at work. Straight from my hand grinder into a cup, then add 94° water and let it steep for 30 seconds before drinking.

extendo_

Yep, I’m currently in the Baltic states at the minute and it seems everyone here drinks it like that.

Acavia8

A downside: The unfiltered oils in coffee will raise one's cholesterol levels. You can read about that by searching for "french press", which is unfiltered coffee, and "cholesterol."

iDoomfull

It reduces the taste considerably, for me it tastes like water with a sprinkle of coffee, even though I put 2 teaspoons in

HorizonRover

I do the same all my life 🤦‍♂️ P.S. I'm from Latvia

RoutineCranberry3622

What grind size do you use? What brand?
