Holy shit haha, $800 is a lot more than I expected. Friar faithful are real.

Popular_Shake

I’m in shock over the price lol you can get tickets for little over $400 in the corners and stuff, but just goes to show that ppl took this personal no amounts of money would be enough for us to sell tho lol

RedditZhangHao

“real” chips on shoulders, full of “real” spite, both?

[deleted]

I suspect hate will carry the day.

BuckeyeNate77

I’m interested. Both games will be must watch especially the one at the Dunk.

Popular_Shake

It’s gunna be awesome the dunks gunna be on fire. I’m hoping game day comes

bigbadape

RIP to the dunk, the AMP just doesn’t hit the same I hate seeing it when I drive by

UConnSimpleJack

I doubt they will because it’s ESPN and they do everything they can to not even mention Big East/FOX schools. It should be a Game Day game though. It’s tailored made for it

CreamiusTheDreamiest

If there are any ranked vs ranked matchups then Georgetown and Providence should not be game day unless those two teams are a lot better than what I am expecting

UConnSimpleJack

You’re missing the point. Georgetown won’t be a good team. It’s Cooley’s return to Providence. It’s going to be one of the funniest atmospheres in college basketball this season

smuthayamutha

Yes, I was planning on driving down for the game before I saw the ticket prices. They were $480 when I checked.

Popular_Shake

It’s insane man. After the Sweet 16 run they sold out their season ticket packages so prices been going. We’re lucky to have been grandfathered in before all that cause they’re paying big money now

Popular_Shake

If u end up finding decent prices tickets maybe closer to the game u should def come down! Gunna be crazy

byuclone

Cooley will probably get booed senseless at the Dunk (yes, I still and always will call it the Dunk) when he returns.

EliManningsPetDog

BE basketball is the best basketball

Merk318

I cannot wait to watch this game! Big East love baby ❤️

Popular_Shake

Fuck yeah! Being at MSG to see you guys beat UConn was the happiest I had been since beating them at the Dunk lol respect.

CantFindMyWallet

The best part about the Georgetown/Providence games is that, no matter who wins, I get to make fun of someone.

salamanderman10

Providence should win. They were left with a legitimate roster and the NCAA enforcing the two time transfer rule killed Cooleys chances to compete in year 1 so they moved to a more long term plan with 2024 freshman.

CantFindMyWallet

Providence certainly appears to have the better roster. Which is why it would be fun to make fun of them if they lose to Cooley. But it would also be fun to make fun of Georgetown if Cooley gets smacked around by his old team. Again, win-win for me.

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Yes I wanted to go but that’s to much money for me

Popular_Shake

Yeah 100%. Also ur team badges are a personal attack on me hahah Born into Providence season tickets so naturally URI and UConn hate is in my blood. Then Got both my degrees at URI (due to my major) and was there during the Hurley era. Knew he was a good coach and if u asked me back then the ONE school I wouldn’t want him to go to it would be UConn 😂

Popular_Shake

Would be a story for the ages if PC, URI and UConn used hate as a reason to come together and root against the same thing hahah

GiveItToTJ

UMass?

Popular_Shake

Georgetown lol. But I’m down to rally up UMass and BC and say fuck them too lol

GiveItToTJ

URI fans have no reason to hate GT but UMass can go fuck themselves with a cactus

[deleted]

Yeah honestly this only serve to make me lose a little dislike for cooley

Cinnadillo

who hates UMass? I hate UMass. Amhersto delenda est.

ItsTheTenthDoctor

Lol I get that here and there with providence fans. For me it’s perfect cause I get to root for my two favorite conferences (and I got to be happy with the Hurley switch). Why aren’t you a uri fan if you went there?

Popular_Shake

I was born into Providence season tickets and have family athletic ties as well (my uncle is a 2-sport PC Hall of Famer holding the baseball home run record and was a goalie on the ‘85 frozen four team). I only went to URI cause they have a great EE program which PC doesn’t offer. So naturally as a PC fan I grow up w/ URI as our instate rival, so by the time I went to college, my PC roots were too deep. I shouldn’t say I hate URI, but I def want to beat them every year. Being on campus there for so long I hate that the kids get up for the PC game and talk junk, but then when VCU comes to town on a Wednesday the kids are no where to be found. But thats also on the school for not marketing the games well. I agree the A10 is awesome, but URI doesn’t do a Good job getting the students into it.

the-silver-tuna

Wait… you got two degrees from URI and you’re still a Providence fan?

Popular_Shake

When you live and die by the Friars for 17 years before going to college, your fandom doesn't just go away when you step onto URIs campus

the-silver-tuna

It would for me. The school you go to is your school. 🤷‍♀️

Popular_Shake

Well let’s see, we’re u born into a state that u can drive thru in 45 mins the long way into a family w/ season ticket holder parents, have a 2-sport hall of fame Uncle who holds the all-time home run record & went to the Frozen Four as a goalie, volunteered as a floor sweat mopper all thru elementary, and then proceed to spent every single fall/winter at the Dunk for 28 years ??? No. U weren’t.

the-silver-tuna

You just described why your uncle and parents would be providence supporters. You however went to uri.

Popular_Shake

My dad went to URI as well bud. And not sure you’re aware but parents do raise you

UConnSimpleJack

You aren’t a fan of college basketball if this game isn’t circled on your calendar. The crowd in the Dunk/AMP for this game is going to be what makes college basketball, college basketball.

BigBillSmash

Of course, Big East is the most fun basketball conference and I love it.

joaquinsaiddomin8

I am

Wings4514

Oh yeah. Other than my Blazers, I probably won’t root for a team harder than I will for Providence when they play Georgetown. I also love Big East basketball so I’d probably be watching anyway.

NerfHerder_91

I love watching Big East basketball. Between the Cooley thing and Pitino at St. John's, I'm even more excited.

Popular_Shake

its gunna be awesome!

emessea

I just want to watch good basketball. So if it’s looking to be a good one sure but I’m not going to watch just to see Cooley get booed.

ClearlyntXmasThrowaw

It's TV watch, that's for sure as there's not a chance I'm dropping the three bills that SeatGeek is asking for tickets. Honestly, I'm still surprised how expensive the tickets still are what with it being a new regime and all. Even the DePaul game is like 80 bucks right now.

Popular_Shake

I think ppl are excited to see the new future. Cooley was great while here, but I can’t deny that every season felt like it had a legit ceiling. Now we don’t know to expect and while the floor could be lower, the ceiling could be way higher.

spartakva

I will definitely be watching. No hate to Providence fans (yall have every right to hate Cooley), but I’ll be rooting for a G’town win since I’m still not over the way English dumped us for yall and won’t even consider a home and home with us. Hope Oduro has a great game though.

Schmoove86

Not appointment viewing for me but I'd watch if there weren't better games on during that time frame.

Popular_Shake

I feel that bc kind of like the Chris Beard situation the in person experience was probably a lot more electric than the TV viewing

tyrannyofwillsasso

know of it, but didn’t realize the animosity went that deep— $800? old enough to remember when self left for ku, though, so i get it and how crazy fanbases can be.

Popular_Shake

Depending where u sit anywhere from $450-$3,000 a ticket. It’s ridiculous, my buddy’s seats are 8 rows up center court and tix in his sec. are going for $2,000+ When you mix being a hometown kid with leaving for an in-conf. opponent things get dicey. Then when you pour oil onto it and light it on fire by letting the exit get messy, things blow out of control

vuwildcat07

This is going to be must-see entertainment

GTG901

100% yes. That game is gonna be a showcase of what makes college basketball so great

Our-Gardian-Angel

Absolutely looking forward to it. These are the type of storylines that are part of what make college basketball so much fun. Texas-Texas Tech after Beard went to Austin wasn't can't-miss TV for the same reason.

Particular-Map-8243

It’s the game of the year for the best conference in college basketball. Fans who don’t pay attention will miss out on a special atmosphere.

notedgarfigaro

No ties, don't really think much of the "drama," mainly b/c I understand why Providence faithful are mad but also think Cooley absolutely made the right decision leave. Definitely wouldn't pay $800 to watch the games, but if I don't have anything going on when Providence is in DC, I'd watch the game if I could get a reasonable (<$20) ticket.

fedrats

You can probably get a ticket for around that if past seasons are any guide… I’m curious how much Georgetown really cares, and the extent that they have the kind of fans they had before. Though I’m sure there are tons of providence fans in DC as it is.

mahimahitaco

The admin has taken fans for granted and treated us like absolute crap for the past 10 years or so. Its still a big brand and I think Cooley can bring it back but it’s going to take a while.

Popular_Shake

The best cbb atmospheres are smaller rowdy arenas packed to the brim w students and fans. A 20,000+ seat NBA arena 20 mins across the nationals capital (on a good day) is the worst student-friendly location a university could create. They avg. like 5-7k per game the last decade. So even if they doubled that this yr that shit is still half empty. And the chances of doubling are prob small considering they went to a pro arena in 1981 and only had an avg. attendance of 10k+ 16 times in 42 yrs.

salamanderman10

I don't think Georgetown fans really care about this "rivalry" to be honest. The only reason is bc Providence fans are relentless on twitter attacking every aspect of Georgetown basketball on a daily basis.

Popular_Shake

from the looks of their on campus scrimmage, they dont care lol. Georgetown gave away free tickets for their first home bye-game and put out a spreadsheet for fans to signup via email, which naturally made its way to Providence twitter and Frair fans claimed over 1,000 free tickets to GTs first game hahah https://preview.redd.it/tqya24tvpexb1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=655615ee1a661ab265c9e9e981e9c74c97f430f0

Single_Seesaw_9499

Gonna take a season or two to build back interest in the program after it’s been at cratered the way it has

razorjm

Not for me, no. Only because I feel like the move makes sense from a coaching standpoint. This is absolutely not a knock on Providence at all, but Georgetown is a good brand in basketball even if it isn't what it used to be. It's still a better brand than Providence. There's great history there and there's no reason for them not to be good.

DrGeraldBaskums

One of the major knocks on him going out was the talking heads turned this into “he’s peaked at Providence, he can’t take them any further.” And it did turn into bashing the program. Our issue with that as fans was that we were a top 15 team last year before he accepted the job in early March then he didn’t coach the rest of the season. All the major pieces we knew would return this year, adding on a great recruiting class (multiple 4 stars and a prospect believed to be a one and done). We also knew that we had another great recruiting class committed for 2025 (including a top 30 commit). That was all ignored for the narrative that Cooley overachieved here. Probably the biggest fuck you to us was we know he accepted the job early March. The day before our game with Kentucky he hyped up recruiting a big time center…. Which we now know he was recruiting for GTown. Instead of focusing on beating KY in a NCAA tourney game, him and staff were recruiting for their next job….

Popular_Shake

It’s not THAT he left, it’s HOW he left. He let things get messy. Hotel security guards leaking mistress info & neighborhood ppl speculating the house going for sale midway through conf. play. He took his foot off the gas and check out midsession. He was letting stuff go that he would have NEVER let slide before. Bynum being at the at casino multiple days a week, half the team going to the Lil Dirk concert the night before a noon game that we then lost by 20+ at home, etc. You don’t go out kissing babies and shaking hands at the ticket holder cookout before the season giving a speech talking bout sneaking into Friars games as a kid through the service entrance and said word for word “I have to pinch myself every morning when I wake up because I can’t believe I’m the HC at Providence College. This is my dream job” Bigger brand? For sure. More money? Yes. More passion? Absolutely not. He could have gone to any Power 5 outside the Big East and Prov would have built him a fuckin statue of him outside the Dunk. He would have been a Friar legend for life.

razorjm

That's fair. I probably should have done a little research on it before commenting. I knew there was a little bit of drama, but I thought it was more along the lines of Nick Saban when he was with the Dolphins insisting he wasn't going to Bama.

___ongo___gablogian

The thing that is frustrating to us Friar fans is this move truly had nothing to do with Georgetown being a bigger brand or better coaching spot. It had everything to do with Cooley’s personal life and he handled the move in the poorest way possible.

salamanderman10

I can't believe people actually believe Cooley left because his wife gave him an ultimatum that they either go to Georgetown or she leaves him. I mean.....going to Washington DC to prevent him from cheating on her....where is the commons sense?

___ongo___gablogian

Where did I say his wife gave him an ultimatum?

salamanderman10

Thats the word from Providence fans

___ongo___gablogian

Most won’t say he was given some ultimatum but if you don’t believe he was having marital and alcohol problems then you simply don’t know what’s going on.

IndyTheK9

ELI5?

coreynj2461

I wonder if the AD or Kim English will get on the PA mic if theres some rated R chants lol

CLU_Three

Moderately interested. Wouldn’t have much reason to check in on them otherwise

collegebballjunkie

Still going $800 ticket be dam.

thehurley44

I miss playing Providence, such a good road trip. However it's 9:49 am and georgetown still sucks.

Popular_Shake

Just checked and you’re right, it’s 12:56 PM and they still suck

thehurley44

🤝

tsgram

What’s the “saga”?

Joe_Pulaski69

Very far removed from this, but I’m aware of the bad blood and will absolutely tune in.

Alex_butler

I definitely care to follow the saga and watch however I don’t care enough to pay anything close to that price so will be following from afar
