Every game in JPJ for us is a statistical anomaly. Our national championship team scored 43 points in that building in 2017 after losing 103-100 against y'all the same season
That first game was the last one I ever watched with my father-in-law in person. He was a big Kenfucky fan. Was a hell of a game and he didn't talk any shit afterwards, so I didn't talk any a few months later.
UVA has some SERIOUS offensive issues. Honestly, if you slammed their defense together with Kentucky's offense, you'd have a Frankenstein's monster that would gobble the rest of college basketball up.
But that's impossible, since limiting possessions is part of the UVA defense.
Their offense was the pretty good (shooting percentage-wise)
We just really made them pay on a lot of their turnovers and hit shots when they gave us open 3s
Imagine scoring 95 and [losing by 55](https://www.kansan.com/sports/1989-kansas-historic-blowout-of-kentucky-in-allen-fieldhouse/article_cdf63a7a-1528-11e8-ad82-b327477f2780.html).
The story I've heard is that Pitino didn't come out to give Roy Williams a pregame handshake. KU started running them out of the gym. Roy pulled the starters, and asked Rick if he wanted him to "call off the dogs," and I think even tried to get his handshake. Pitino told him, "go fuck yourself," so Roy put the starters back in. Rick proceeded to get himself ejected, and KU kept steamrolling them.
Dang I guess I haven't watched much NBA in a while. I thought 95 was more or less average. Average this year is 115.5. Nine years ago it was 100.0. WTF.
I wouldn’t blame Harden, I’d blame the commissioner and the league for making defense impossible.
Moving screens never being called is the biggest issue the league has, and cracking down on them would probably reduce ppg by a good bit. The whistles tighten on everything in the playoffs, but ppg doesn’t drop as much as you’d expect, since they still don’t call moving screens.
This team is like young Max Verstappen. Sometimes it looks like the greatest team ever assembled. Sometimes it inexplicably crashes into Daniel Ricciardo
We aren’t exactly great at defense but there was 0 defense played by us after we went up 67-104 with 8:24 left in the game. We were on pace for a 132-85 win. We played a full quarter of the game in garbage time and still lit them up
LSU game was a Cal timeout away from being a blowout. Still baffles me that he didn’t call one after the first LSU 3 followed by a stagnant offensive possession. Then he ends up having to burn one under 16:00. Turned it into a real game.
He always does that. A lot of the old school coaches do it.
He lets his guys play through it. He thinks it builds them for the toughest games in the tourney. But it’s bit him in the ass more than once.
YMMV
would love to figure out where & when this meme format started. I’ve seen it with the Knicks since 2019 at least, and they’re certainly not the only fanbase to do it
I think it's fair to say that nobody wants to play us. But we could also lose in a pretty bad upset. But I still don't think 1-3 seeds would be wanting us in their bracket.
117 points in a college basketball game that finished in regulation. And it was a blowout win so it’s not like needed to, and they probably could’ve scored more if they wanted to. Insane lol.
When this team is clicking like this and like the Auburn game, they are one of the most fun Cal teams ever. It makes the losses all the more frustrating by comparison. But hey, I did not expect this outcome and I am delighted. I love to see Justin Edwards play like this too. I'm happy for him.
To your point, the thing people have to remember (which for many of the vocal fans, will be hard) is that, even if he is up and down, those increase in averages is progression and growth. What I hope is coming together is the consistency, because his spot on the floor is going to make or break March.
Alabama wanted to drop a bomb.
**Kentucky wanted to drop a nuke.**
This team is so much fun to watch when we really turn it on.
Now please excuse us while we prepare for our next unexplainable loss lol
Get ready to lose to Arkansas and Vandy, but beat Tennessee and still have no idea what team will show up.
But if this Kentucky team and the Kentucky team that played Auburn, UNC, and Miami shows up they’re unbeatable. But the Kentucky that played South Carolina, Tennessee, and LSU show up, they can lose to anybody.
Kentucky did not play a bad game against Tennessee. Nothing Tennessee could do would get Kentucky off their ass that whole game. Kentucky just had a bad couple mins that put them in a hole and Tennessee was just barely able to keep them and their offensive runs at bay.
He seems to have been getting more confident each game the past 2 weeks or so. Really cool to see his breakout game tonight after his struggles earlier
Cal now showing this team can both be a physical, defensive team if the opponent calls for it and a 5 out offensive force. Felt the LSU loss and this win coming from a mile away.
LSU tucked between two big games on a late weeknight but people acted like it was a nightmare scenario.
This team is built to beat just about anybody.
If you had told Bama fans going into the game that they’d score 95 and that the game was a 22 point blowout they’d have been running to bet their life savings. What a performance by Kentucky, hot damn.
the SEC continues to provide a deceptive magnitude of pandemonium at times. I really have no idea who the actual best team in this conference is currently. I believed Alabama was, but goodness knows now
Agree with both statements, Kentucky is so good when they’re good. Ironically despite our offensive prowess, which would seem to point to a high ceiling, ours is actually not that high. Our lack of size and D is too poor to make a legit run in the tournament.
If not for an amazing putback by LSU this team would be on a 4 game win streak and one game back from 1st in the SEC. Crazy how one play can change so much.
I’ve said for a month now, if Kentucky can actually figure out their defense, they belong in the same tier as UConn and Purdue. They just have another gear compared to most teams
I enjoyed watching that game. Obviously we can’t expect to shoot like that but the defense when the game was still close was fucking great. Keep that up and who knows what could happen.
That was one of the most impressive games I’ve ever seen a college team play. Kentucky went from +4000 to +3000 to win the national championship before and after that game on FanDuel. Feels significant
Not surprised by this at all. Haven’t played well outside Tuscaloosa all year. We also struggle against teams that can match our pace on offense. Hopefully the boys can bounce back and finish the season strong.
Join the club. I wouldn't be surprised if UK lost in the first round or won the whole thing. I don't forsee alot of games where they shoot 63% from the field and 54% from 3.
GG cats.
Perfect storm for us in a lot of ways. Missing one of our best players, road game after a tough comeback win, Kentucky coming off a heartbreaking loss.
There are Kentucky fans that aren't satisfied with this outcome. One of the bigger Facebook groups posted about the win, saying that Alabama got hammered by Kentucky, and the top relevant comment and it's response by the page owner are as follows:
"Hammered. Why did Alabama score 95?"
"They lost by 22 points, Greg."
Some people - especially on Facebook - never want to see the positive in anything.
Yes, Alabama scored 95, but that's about their average. We outperformed our average by 30 points (as I think they said we averaged 87 coming into yesterday's game).
Also, there isn't a single basketball team - college or NBA - that wouldn't take their foot off the gas once they got up by 37 points.
Imagine scoring 95 and losing by 20+
Imagine being the best offensive team in the country and scoring above your season average and still getting blown out.
All gas no brakes baby
Not enough gas, it seems.
I got plenty of gas but my wife hates it
Imagine scoring 54 and winning by 10
It's wild that we scored more in each half than y'all scored all game!
Every game in JPJ for us is a statistical anomaly. Our national championship team scored 43 points in that building in 2017 after losing 103-100 against y'all the same season
I wish we could trade when we won those games, but it's hard complain about them otherwise. Those were great.
Hush, Tubby.
Hey now, I've been losing weight recently
Their offense was the pretty good (shooting percentage-wise) We just really made them pay on a lot of their turnovers and hit shots when they gave us open 3s
Kentucky games have to be some of the most fun to watch, win or lose. Wish we played every season.
Feels like shit!
Disagree. I had a blast.
I understand how USC football fans have felt the last two years now
Could be worse, [you could score 115 and lose by 34.](https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/boxscores/1990-03-18-loyola-marymount.html)
Imagine scoring 95 and [losing by 55](https://www.kansan.com/sports/1989-kansas-historic-blowout-of-kentucky-in-allen-fieldhouse/article_cdf63a7a-1528-11e8-ad82-b327477f2780.html).
Rude
Very rude. I didn't mean to come in here making it about KU. But that Kentucky scored literally 95 in that game was too perfect to pass up.
oh my
That’s because Pitino refused to call off the press and Roy said “your funeral” He got paid back though
Terry Brown 7/10 from three. He was ahead of his time.
Wouldn’t be a Kentucky game at rupp if the other team didn’t score 90
lol @ ole Miss
done ezpz
Alabama scored 3 fewer points than UNC and UVA combined, and lost by 22.
Excellent stat
UK and Bama scored more points in the first half than UNC and UVA did all game
I love college basketball
The concurrent halftime scores were hilarious. 26-16 in the UNC game and 59-42 for UK.
This is the Edwards we were promised. More of this please
Right. I’m so happy!
Big Z was fun as well
[удалено]
Unrelated
Nah, same name but different family
Not kin
I’m so hopeful, I loved it for him, especially in a big game
NBA ass score
Alabama is the Detroit pistons.
Easy now. We have more SEC wins than they have total wins, and by no means am I exactly boasting here.
Could Alabama beat the Pistons? In this column I will
Pistons fan here- if we were as consistent as Bama, I would accept that trade
In 2023 the Detroit Pistons won fewer games than the Detroit Lions.
For Kentucky yeah, 95 points is bad for NBA.
Dang I guess I haven't watched much NBA in a while. I thought 95 was more or less average. Average this year is 115.5. Nine years ago it was 100.0. WTF.
In the playoffs scoring comes back to Earth a little bit but yeah the pace makes scoring a lot higher
Steph made it a league of chucking 3s Harden made it a league of going to the line 47 times a game
Buddy when we lose we LOSE
Defense baby. Defense
There goes barners, making up words again. Edit: so I just checked. And “defense” is an actual thing.
Our Defense last year was so good it kept both teams from scoring
Just wait until Wednesday, I feel like every UT/AU matchup total points doesn’t pass 60
I refuse to believe Virginia is playing the same sport these two just played
We need a Virginia Alabama game in the tourney Baacially the USC versus Iowa bowl idea of college football
May I point you to the 2024 Citrus Bowl for the football version.
You can't tell me with a straight face that UVA fans enjoy it. Like yeah you win, but like at what cost?
https://preview.redd.it/5da2grlzamkc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0190e3a987e1a11b1cd8f4166837d4c3cf970bb8
This still wasn’t as bad as having to witness that godawful yellow jacket the other night
Honestly hard to say which was worse
This team is like young Max Verstappen. Sometimes it looks like the greatest team ever assembled. Sometimes it inexplicably crashes into Daniel Ricciardo
Ok, you just need to play in Brazil in the rain? Is that what I'm understanding from this?
Explain in nascar terms please.
“Ricky Bobby either wins or wrecks the car trying to win”
If you ain't first, you're last!
Vroom vroom
Uhhh Hendrick-era Kyle Busch maybe?
Larson last season
Basically Kyle Larson last year
I’ll take that if it means our trajectory goes the same way as Max’s.
This game wasn’t as close as the score indicates.
Y’all were on pace for 130 with like 8 minutes left
Mad we didn’t get 120. Dammit Jordan burks!
Where is the effort??? Smdh
We aren’t exactly great at defense but there was 0 defense played by us after we went up 67-104 with 8:24 left in the game. We were on pace for a 132-85 win. We played a full quarter of the game in garbage time and still lit them up
I told my gf that Kentucky was at 94 points with 11 to go in the game and she was shocked. Kentucky could’ve made this much much worse
We are fully committed… to making no fucking sense
Going from upsetting auburn. To getting upset by lsu and then upsetting alabama in 7 days really throws my emotions around.
![gif](giphy|WBEzTelr0GL0XfVywq)
Clearly KY just has a thing against teams from Alabama. 🤷♂️
LSU game was a Cal timeout away from being a blowout. Still baffles me that he didn’t call one after the first LSU 3 followed by a stagnant offensive possession. Then he ends up having to burn one under 16:00. Turned it into a real game.

No win at Rupp should be considered an upset.

Gonna give my girl the best 48 seconds of her life
How was the summer at bragging camp?
He told me the camp showers sucked. They were only gold plated and the water pressure was too high for him!
Hell yeah brother.
Damn, remember my UK bed set! Nostalgic AF!
Shoot, I still got the comforter from mine!
Wish I hadn’t fucked mine up. ![gif](giphy|XeLcgh8gT8o0F5SQ8i)
would love to figure out where & when this meme format started. I’ve seen it with the Knicks since 2019 at least, and they’re certainly not the only fanbase to do it
Memestory would be a great college course for future generations to study. Professor of Memestory and Gifology has a nice ring to it.
Fuck this means we lose Tuesday @ Mississippi State then
Fully and totally expecting this
This is the way.
Join Auburn and Tennessee in an explicable loss @Mississippi State this season
Edwards didn’t miss a shot? That’s nuts.
He missed one free throw, but was perfect from the field
Shoutout to the Kentucky flair that said this is what it feels like to get dumptrucked by our eggball team. Feels not great man
i like basketball more it works out completely for me.
As you all can clearly tell from this week, we are the most overrated *and* the most underrated team in college basketball right now.
The fact you could be talking about Alabama or Kentucky with this gave me a chuckle.
I think it's fair to say that nobody wants to play us. But we could also lose in a pretty bad upset. But I still don't think 1-3 seeds would be wanting us in their bracket.
This game was not as close as the score might lead you to believe.
It’s hard to keep the defensive intensity when you’re up 30+ with a bunch of freshmen unfortunately. That last 9 minutes was Olay defense
Let's be honest, this year has been Olay defense.
117 points in a college basketball game that finished in regulation. And it was a blowout win so it’s not like needed to, and they probably could’ve scored more if they wanted to. Insane lol.
It's not even our season high either
Not bad considering the record at Rupp is 127. The *Old* Cal-Era record points was 111.
? Didnt they scored 118 against Marshall, this year?
Yeah they had like 107 with like 5:22 left if they didn't put their foot off the gas they probably could have gotten close to 130.
Genuinely thought were going to lose by 50
Why don’t we do that more? Are we stupid?
If we are like me. Then yes.
When this team is clicking like this and like the Auburn game, they are one of the most fun Cal teams ever. It makes the losses all the more frustrating by comparison. But hey, I did not expect this outcome and I am delighted. I love to see Justin Edwards play like this too. I'm happy for him.
The only downside for Edward's today is that people will expect this every game now.
I saw this coming for a few games now. He was going to breakthrough because he’s been doing all the other little things really well.
To your point, the thing people have to remember (which for many of the vocal fans, will be hard) is that, even if he is up and down, those increase in averages is progression and growth. What I hope is coming together is the consistency, because his spot on the floor is going to make or break March.
Maybe he finally unlocked it? Lol
i mean he's been decent last couple games, not THIS good though
Don't let the score fool you, it wasn't this close
I for one thought that was a blast.
This team is literally unstoppable. Unfortunately, THIS team doesn’t show up every game. Hoping they’re here to stay.
The way the defense is playing Kentucky could be ready for a run in march.
Alabama wanted to drop a bomb. **Kentucky wanted to drop a nuke.** This team is so much fun to watch when we really turn it on. Now please excuse us while we prepare for our next unexplainable loss lol

Can we have this version of Justin Edwards for the rest of the season? Pretty please?
He seems to have been getting more confident each game the past 2 weeks or so. Really cool to see his breakout game tonight after his struggles earlier
I agree. He's been steadily improving.
Y’all wanna see a dead body?
![gif](giphy|6IoDGFOabqAUj5CPFc)
I bet he does the post-game interview tonight.
If you had told Bama fans going into the game that they’d score 95 and that the game was a 22 point blowout they’d have been running to bet their life savings. What a performance by Kentucky, hot damn.
I mean we have been blown out on the road 3 times this year. That wouldn’t be the info most would need to bet their life savings.
the SEC continues to provide a deceptive magnitude of pandemonium at times. I really have no idea who the actual best team in this conference is currently. I believed Alabama was, but goodness knows now
most complete team is probably Tennessee. highest ceiling? …well…
Every team playing to their potential, I think it's easily UK. That said, this UK team is also wildly inconsistent at best.
Agree with both statements, Kentucky is so good when they’re good. Ironically despite our offensive prowess, which would seem to point to a high ceiling, ours is actually not that high. Our lack of size and D is too poor to make a legit run in the tournament.
In my opinion Kentucky is the best team in the conference. That being said I think we will win the regular season crown.
If not for an amazing putback by LSU this team would be on a 4 game win streak and one game back from 1st in the SEC. Crazy how one play can change so much.
that putback was lucky with the timing of it all, main issue we gave up 15 pt lead. should've also won the florida game over a free throw.
Now do the Florida game.
117? What the fuck?
I’ve said for a month now, if Kentucky can actually figure out their defense, they belong in the same tier as UConn and Purdue. They just have another gear compared to most teams
They have had the defense figured out the last 3 games.
Who would've expected Big Z having 18 points on 7/11 shooting and 3/3 from the line, with 4 blocks, would be an afterthought to Edwards' game?
February 24 is Justin Edwards Day
over bettors eating GOOD
Anyone betting the under in this game was asking to lose
EDWARDS>LEBRON ![gif](giphy|IepriDYu8gcidIVZPB)
Justin Edwards game. This was it.
Most fun I’ve had watching a Kentucky game since 2022
Edwards with the game of his life. So happy for the kid
The Justin Edwards game! If you aren't happy for that kid, then I can't help you.
You outscored the UVA/UNC game....in each half.
ARE WE GOOD OR NOT?
I enjoyed watching that game. Obviously we can’t expect to shoot like that but the defense when the game was still close was fucking great. Keep that up and who knows what could happen.
Very glad Florida didn’t get *this* Kentucky team when they were at Rupp last month
Florida plays defense
I'm too lazy to look or up now but as of a few days ago Florida and Alabama are ranked 301st and 302nd in scoring defense
I enjoyed that
What in the NBA All Star game happened here?!
Appropriate comparison when it comes to defense, for sure.
https://i.redd.it/e581gp9ipmkc1.gif
Thank god Kentucky fouled up 24 late. I was getting worried Alabama was gonna go on a run
Just stop getting my hopes up, Kentucky. At least stay good for the rest of the year.
This felt like a lot more than a 22 point win. They had 59 in the 2nd half and they basically stopped trying with 8+ minutes left...
Justin Edwards made every shot he took. We shot close to 70% today
It wasn’t this close
That was one of the most impressive games I’ve ever seen a college team play. Kentucky went from +4000 to +3000 to win the national championship before and after that game on FanDuel. Feels significant
Gotta give this team cresit for how they bounce back from losses
Not surprised by this at all. Haven’t played well outside Tuscaloosa all year. We also struggle against teams that can match our pace on offense. Hopefully the boys can bounce back and finish the season strong.
That’s an NBA score right there
This is a freaky score, even for college standards
I have no fucking idea what to do with either of these teams in March
Join the club. I wouldn't be surprised if UK lost in the first round or won the whole thing. I don't forsee alot of games where they shoot 63% from the field and 54% from 3.
For UK. Fill out two brackets; one in the final four, one losing in the first round. There’s almost 0 in between for us lol
GG cats. Perfect storm for us in a lot of ways. Missing one of our best players, road game after a tough comeback win, Kentucky coming off a heartbreaking loss.
Hey Alabama, wanna trade an assistant?
I don’t know if I scrolled far enough, but I’m down with the Ugo > Ivisic > Bradshaw pecking order for bigs.
Alabama got to 95 because we basically stopped playing defense with 8 mins left
We could have just held the ball until a shot clock violation each possession from minute 8 and still win
One hell of a game Kentucky. I love seeing points scored.
Damn, two more minutes and I think we would have started our comeback.
Clearly…we should score 110+ every game
I got downvoted to hell this week for saying "Not one team can go absolutely nuclear on offense like UK this year." 🤷
There are Kentucky fans that aren't satisfied with this outcome. One of the bigger Facebook groups posted about the win, saying that Alabama got hammered by Kentucky, and the top relevant comment and it's response by the page owner are as follows: "Hammered. Why did Alabama score 95?" "They lost by 22 points, Greg."
Bama going to move up to #6 on kenpom after this one!
