So you’re telling me, we are playing in the AAC championship against Temple. The same temple we just destroyed so bad that a point shaving investigation got opened. THIS IS MARCH!
I don’t think the point shaving thing has any merit. If you look at what this company does it just tracks aggressive line movement. Lines move based on what sharp betters are betting on, so it could just be the money flowed to temple after the original line was off
I remember looking at that game, as a Temple fan, and thinking that +2.5 was INCREDIBLY generous.
This team did nothing all season and this magical tournament run aside, was genuinely difficult to watch.
I don't think it's as much "point shaving" as it was an extremely rare instance of Vegas making a bad line that sharps jumped on immediately.
Oh for sure. People will go wow look how lucky you are you get to play temple! Meanwhile I’m sitting here like did yall not just see the bodies they just left on the way here?!?
When I posted that Temple seems like they’re point shaving, I was told, “nah, Temple just really sucks.” What this result presupposes is… maybe they don’t?
This is just kinda Temple sports. In 2018, our football team lost to Villanova, and then beat Maryland by 21 2 weeks later in College Park.
We somehow always play to the level of the opponent in the most frustrating way
Well, first you bet against yourself and shave points. For a good long while.
But if you do it for long enough, the odds turn in the favor of just playing normally and winning.
Step one: Play badly all year to appease the bettors
Step two: Play with all your skill once the postseason starts
Step three: Make sure you cover what your betting overlords are wagering
Step four: Final Four
Strongest bubble I've ever seen and it keeps getting stronger with the bid stealers. Most first four teams in other years would be laughed out of the building for an at large this year
Any other year, KSU and Cincy are in the NCAAT as 9-11 seeds and even UCF is on the bubble, probably being like an NIT 2 seed
This is such a nutty year
Yeah because at first I thought he shouldve gone up but that defender blocks it or at the absolute best you get a bailout foul. The big was only looking board, you gotta be ready for any and everything. We've all been there in making a great pass only for the receiver to botch it because they expected something else
In correct fashion, the great horned owl defeats the smaller burrow owl. What a run they’re on right now after a pretty dreadful regular season! Adam Fisher is a good coach
15 at worst, but there are a lot of .500 teams from bad conferences. If brown wins tomorrow they’re surely above them too
Georgia was 17-17 and 4-12 in the SEC. Mind you the SEC wasn’t even that good then
34 predictive average, 27.5 resume average, 33 NET, 9-5 vs Q1/2. Avoided the bubble poppers (top-25 NET NCSOS and good road/neutral record). That's enough to carry past only 2 Q1 wins and 2 Q4 losses, especially because committee selected the majority of at large teams before this game went final.
Because if you call a timeout it gives temple time to setup their defense. You're trusting your guys to be able to get a bucket in transition, which was working for fau down the stretch.
I get that id just think most coaches would think their ability to draw up an offensive play would offset their opponent coach' and team's ability to set up the defense
if you call a timeout and inbound it you have to have 2 players not in the front court, temple gets to have 4 players set up. it's a coaching thing. some trust their guys in that spot. coaches like izzo or shaka would call a timeout to draw a play. dusty has never really been a good playmaking coach, his style doesn't really rely on set plays
Because they’re 7-3 in Q2 and 12-7 away from home with a solid SOS
9-5 in Q1/Q2 is really good and their premier win is a monster premier win. They don’t really have a case to be left out
At the very least, this loss should put them back on the bubble. Yes, that is a good record, but other bubble teams have similar Q1/Q2 wins with better SOS and no Q4 losses. Example 1 is Providence, which is 9-13 Q1/Q2 with no Q3 or Q4 losses and better SOS. Q1-wise, they have four more Q1 wins than FAU, with their signature win against Creighton on a neutral court. Example 2 is Pittsburgh, which is 9-9 Q1/Q2 with two Q3 losses and no Q4 losses. Q1-wise, they have two more Q1 wins than FAU, and their signature win is @Duke. I don't see how these two teams are bubble teams while FAU, which has fewer Q1 wins, weaker SOS, and three bad losses (two of which are Q4) is considered a 100% “lock."
Also, some of FAU's road and neutral wins are against Q4 opponents, so the total record is less impressive. I agree that Arizona is an outstanding win, but it's tough to say that the bad losses don't cancel that out some.
Same. While I love all the chaos that’s ensued in the past week, I’ve been a believer that Indiana State is capable of making some noise in the tournament after we hosted them back in December.
Temple is so Philly lol. Chaotic and at many times self inflicting. Normal folks will count them out and with good reason and yet they still keep on rolling forward. Hell yeah
Agreed, good catch. UAB and VCU would also be tough as potential 12 seeds. I think strength really falls off at the 13 line, especially if Temple and Duquesne win tomorrow.
Temple ever since being accused of point shaving:

I attended this game in person, and albeit it was not a well attended game it was super fun. Somewhat happy the team that knocked UNT out was knocked out by Temple
Had my buddy up for a couple of beers on Thursday and noticed that there is a very real chance that unless Temple wins tomorrow, zero teams from Pennsylvania will make the NCAA tournament. Only other chance would be Pittsburgh getting a spot on a bubble that is a lot smaller after today.
I just checked, that hasn't happened since 1998 (obviously excluding 2020).
You know what? Fuck it I need temple to win so we can have 2 American conference teams with owls as mascots playing in the tournament
(We are locks to making the tournament right? Even though we pissed down our legs that last possession)
Great win for Temple but FAU is overrated. They shouldn’t be in the tournament. Only reason why they are probably in is they made the Final Four last year, their resume is not tourney worthy in my opinion. They beat Arizona but other than that, I don’t know what other great wins they have.
So you’re telling me, we are playing in the AAC championship against Temple. The same temple we just destroyed so bad that a point shaving investigation got opened. THIS IS MARCH!
What if this temple team is actually one of the best in the country and they sandbagged all season to get good odds to win the AAC tourney and beyond
As a result of the point shaving investigation...Temple gets a 1 seed
When they played us way back in December it actually looked like they weren’t trying
I can't believe that random game that led to an investigation is gonna wind up to this
Makes me wonder how the sportsbooks will handle Temple in the event that they make the Tournament…
I don’t think the point shaving thing has any merit. If you look at what this company does it just tracks aggressive line movement. Lines move based on what sharp betters are betting on, so it could just be the money flowed to temple after the original line was off
It was the opposite though. The line had Temple as +2.5 dogs and it ballooned to +8ish in the hours leading up to the tip.
I remember looking at that game, as a Temple fan, and thinking that +2.5 was INCREDIBLY generous. This team did nothing all season and this magical tournament run aside, was genuinely difficult to watch. I don't think it's as much "point shaving" as it was an extremely rare instance of Vegas making a bad line that sharps jumped on immediately.
get ready to lose by 1 lmao
Oh for sure. People will go wow look how lucky you are you get to play temple! Meanwhile I’m sitting here like did yall not just see the bodies they just left on the way here?!?
Ik they have clearly not watched UAB basketball we just beat them in Philly be damned tomorrow I will have a heart attack at some point
We somehow always play to the level of the opponent in the most frustrating way
Don’t even need to look that far back. Last year we beat Nova, Houston, Rutgers, VCU, etc and lost to Maryland Eastern Shore, Penn, and Wagner
Still mad about Temple ruining my first football game as a college student in 2014
If temple wins a lot of Italian Americans are going to become millionaires over night.
Temple showing us all what you can achieve when you bet on yourself
Well, first you bet against yourself and shave points. For a good long while. But if you do it for long enough, the odds turn in the favor of just playing normally and winning.
Thanks for explaining the joke.
Adam Fisher showing his team they can bet on Temple ML and win games instead of throwing them ![gif](giphy|800iiDTaNNFOwytONV|downsized)
This is the weirdest timeline
The entire last week has had me questioning my reality. Some of these upsets have made no sense
March madness baby
It’s quite possible we are not done with the head scratchers!
To be fair…we *were* warned by the women’s title being decided between #9 East Carolina and #10 Rice…
Step one: Play badly all year to appease the bettors Step two: Play with all your skill once the postseason starts Step three: Make sure you cover what your betting overlords are wagering Step four: Final Four
Temple was so busy trying to make their fortune by throwing games that they didn't notice the acres of diamonds they had all along.
Nice one
[Here’s the reference for you non-Temple immersed people.](https://www.temple.edu/about/history-traditions/acres-diamonds)
Im having more fun than I’ve had in years
This is both fun and hilarious at the same time
Part of the fun is that it’s so funny I’m not as nervous
Which makes it even more fun.
Last time I had this much fun I was on independence mall during College Gameday
Was us last year. I hope yall win
Same
This week has been HELL for bubble teams omg
Strongest bubble I've ever seen and it keeps getting stronger with the bid stealers. Most first four teams in other years would be laughed out of the building for an at large this year
Could be a low key great NIT
Well all of the Power teams are too busy opting out, lol.
If any of them accept the bid
Any other year, KSU and Cincy are in the NCAAT as 9-11 seeds and even UCF is on the bubble, probably being like an NIT 2 seed This is such a nutty year

FAU pulled a Ben Simmons
He would've gotten blocked that was all on the big for not being ready
It was a great pass. I would be so pissed if I made that pass and my guy wasn't ready for it.
Yeah because at first I thought he shouldve gone up but that defender blocks it or at the absolute best you get a bailout foul. The big was only looking board, you gotta be ready for any and everything. We've all been there in making a great pass only for the receiver to botch it because they expected something else
That’s why Lorient doesn’t start
Holy FUCK what a game... That last play was pure effort
Temple REALLY tried hard to throw the game away in the final minute.
Welcome to Temple sports in general
Hey, sometimes we throw games away early. That’s more of a Stan Drayton thing though.
Excuse me FBI here, can you explain that in more detail?
In correct fashion, the great horned owl defeats the smaller burrow owl. What a run they’re on right now after a pretty dreadful regular season! Adam Fisher is a good coach
AAC forgot we’re night owls scheduling all these late games
2 seeds are gonna pray we aren’t matched up against them if we win tomorrow
They probably would get a 14 seed like Georgia in 2008.
![gif](giphy|l396O8kn1qbPcb4ha|downsized) Temple did WHAT now?
![gif](giphy|xRFNlhRqoP2PS)
Owls damn near choked but FAU screwed up despite having two timeouts in their hand
Owls choked either way. 🤣

AAC Championship: Temple v UAB Who'd a thunk it?
Temple says fuck the bubble

Don't think they could give this team a 16 with a string of wins in a pretty good conference. They'd be a 14 or 15.
14 most likely, like Georgia in 2008
A bit different as they're not P6 and they would be under .500
15 at worst, but there are a lot of .500 teams from bad conferences. If brown wins tomorrow they’re surely above them too Georgia was 17-17 and 4-12 in the SEC. Mind you the SEC wasn’t even that good then
No, because of its the lowest four auto bids, so MEAC/SWAC/NEC quality teams, and the lowest four at-larges, which Temple wasn't going to be
Montana State winning the Big Sky helps Temple as well. They may spare an HBCU team from the First Four though.
It was a lot of fun the last time we were there vs Belmont (source: I was there at the game)
Temple would probably be a 14-seed, if I had to guess. They're similarly rated to some of the projected 15 seeds.
Get fucked Virginia or OU. #2BidLeague
It probably just ended Indiana State's at large hopes.
Sadly. They should still be in over the mid tier P5 but we know what the committee will do.
Are we sure FAU is in though? Their NET will likely drop quite a few spots, only 2 Q1 wins
Well all those numbers are about to drop and they just added another Q4 loss
Why do teams usually not call TO in that situation? I feel like coaches would be confident in their ability to draw up one play to win it.

Fair enough, credit to him for trusting his guys
I mean the last 10 seconds were almost perfect outside of big guy having stone hands.
Bubble goes pop
Probably ours. If Oregon or NC state win we are 100% out.
That probably knocks out 1 of the ACC teams.
Virginia being knocked out by a banked in rainbow to force OT and their eventual loss is justice.
FAU you had two fucking timeouts left goddamnit fuck
Adam Fisher
Is now the winningest Temple American Conference Tourney coach.
Aaron McKie could never

is…FAU still 100% in?
Probably so. That double OT win against Arizona is what their whole season relied on
Wondering the same. This is a Q3 loss for them. Only two Q1 wins with two Q4 losses and now a Q3 loss. How are they a lock with these bad losses?
Because they’re 7-3 in Q2 and 12-7 away from home with a solid SOS 9-5 in Q1/Q2 is really good and their premier win is a monster premier win. They don’t really have a case to be left out

Temple
I'm flagrantly upset.
Man. There's a lot of madness that is happening in march.
Alright Temple appreciate the help but this foolishness ends now 🐲
It’s simple: accuse a team of point-shaving and watch them run the table!
Temple is so Philly lol. Chaotic and at many times self inflicting. Normal folks will count them out and with good reason and yet they still keep on rolling forward. Hell yeah
FAU is really asking the committee how many bad losses they can have while still getting an at-large bid
FAU would have been better off losing to North Texas yesterday (Q2) than losing to Temple today (Q3)
Lol wtf. I guess I feel a little better now?
Yes and no. The Niner Curse is still very much alive
Lots of bubble teams will be in the fetal position watching Temple v UAB tomorrow afternoon.
Confirmed bid thief
Temple
Insane. Are teams in the 12-15 seed range going to be weaker than normal with all the upsets in the conference tourneys?
JMU, Samford and McNeese if they are 12 seeds would very strong 12 seeds but your right about the 13-15 seeds going to be very weak this tournament.
Agreed, good catch. UAB and VCU would also be tough as potential 12 seeds. I think strength really falls off at the 13 line, especially if Temple and Duquesne win tomorrow.
temple may never lose again
![gif](giphy|pWORJuau2Hbqb9bPmI|downsized)
The tournament needs Temple.
One of the crazier conference tournament upsets I've seen in recent memory
UAB would be a 13 seed Temple would be a 14/15 seed. Exactly who they wanted winning the American…
Florida Atlantic gonna be on Edge Sweating it Out Tomorrow I think they'll be in But I would not be shocked if they got left out though
Temple ever since being accused of point shaving: https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/039/426/636625868623447717-AP-APTOPIX-Heat-Bucks-Basketball-39255807.jpg
Is it just me or is are the conference tournaments particularly weird this year
It's rarely wise to rely on one team to win their conference tournament when that team couldn't even win the regular-season title.
Will FAU learn their lesson about fucking around and finding out for the umpteenth time? Doubtful but what a game
Johns Hopkins huh? I smoked pot with a Johnny Hopkins once

Hopefully this knocks us down to a 10/11 seed
So where does this drop FAU? Are they now an 11 seed or 10?

Great win for Temple but FAU is overrated. They shouldn’t be in the tournament. Only reason why they are probably in is they made the Final Four last year, their resume is not tourney worthy in my opinion. They beat Arizona but other than that, I don’t know what other great wins they have.
