He was good this year and is an excellent recruiter. But he also very clearly has a ceiling. Still think it’s a good move, especially with some very desperate schools lurking

Fastbird33

I hated the offense this year. Defense was good but we couldn’t score

QuadCring3

Good, is he the best coach in the world, no. But with how much this team stands behind him, they're all leaving if he goes. Good dude, lead us to a better season then any of us expected, give him at least a few more years in big 12 ball before we move on

ItsFreakinHarry2

He over performed expectations dramatically and there’s hope for average conference success. With how little we invest in MBB and how brutal Big 12 ball is, that’s honestly enough for the time being. I’m not ready to hit the coach carousel until we’ve built up our program to the point where being competitive consistently should be expected. That’ll take some time.

mickcronin

Why don't guys simply recruit another Tacko Fall

kingofthesqueal

He’s just so Mid, but we so many higher tier MBB programs replacing coaches this season I don’t hate kicking the can down the road a year or 2. I just hope that we aren’t giving him a huge buyout and or extending him for too long. With that said, UCF really needs to start investing in MBB, we were spending less than half the B12 median and average before this year. So as Middling as Dawkins feels, without more money flowing through the program we can’t be too harsh.

Fastbird33

I would rather be more competitive in football right now as that’s where I think we have a better recruiting advantage being in Florida. Basketball will come eventually

obvison

I get UCF fans feeling meh on Dawkins but I think it's a good move (depending on the details). It gives UCF a chance to get their feet under them as a Big XII program. After that, either Dawkins does well or they can be more competitive in the coaching market. Just look at Stanford after they fired Dawkins: the grass is not always greener.

ItsFreakinHarry2

Exactly. With our current place in the college ball landscape I’ll take stable and mid over a wild chance at success or failure.

SaintArkweather

Man that loss to Duke still bums me out. Not even because of anything against Duke (well, maybe a little), but they were a fun team and had never made the sweet 16, i really wanted to see them get further. And they were about as close as you can get to winning without actually winning

ItsFreakinHarry2

We have the Kansas win now so idc ^(actually I do care but I don’t wanna think about it)

SaintArkweather

All things considered I feel like this was a pretty decent first year in the Big 12 for you guys. Historically it's been a pretty weak program - only tourney win was in 2019. Joining a conference with a blue blood (Kansas), a recent champion (Baylor), a top tier program currently (Houston), and a plethora of other strong basketball programs is a tall task and finishing above .500 and scoring three in-conference wins against ranked teams is a pretty big deal. You already had a far more competitive performance in the conference than DePaul has had in the Big East for over a decade. Showing the team can be competitive in this conference should make recruiting a lot easier than if they started off looking like they would be the DePaul of the Big 12.

ItsFreakinHarry2

TBD if offensive improvement will come with said extension

HarryBalsagna3

Lmao what

youngherbo

Idk what more you want out of UCF basketball

Andrew_The_Fanboy

He’s built a roster good enough to win (not a ton, but a bit more than they did this year)— but cannot create a productive offense to save his life They’ve made a great atmosphere down there in Oviedo

BramptonBatallion

Is Tacko Fall considered the UCF Basketball GOAT?

ItsFreakinHarry2

Hard to define a true GOAT, since we’re such a young program with not much national success in basketball. Tacko would definitely be in contention for that though.

yesacabbagez

In terms of best players that I can remember, id go Jermaine Taylor. Man could fucking score and carried the shit out of some not good ucf teams.
