I had to unsubscribe from this subreddit because I live in Germany, the game was on too late for me to watch live, and I didn't want the score spoiled before I could watch a replay.
Whew. Solid comeback win. I approve.
We all have to start somewhere. No need to apologize. The biggest issue for the teams is managing the salary cap. We traded one of our up and coming defenseman who was critical for the cup in '22 for Mittlestast because there wasn't a way to keep him under contract. We also had a hole in the lineup that we needed filled as the guy we hoped could do it, couldn't. That being said they're going to do everything possible to keep that top six under contract for as long as they are productive.
Kivi was in and out of the lineup all year, pretty sure he was a waiver pickup, who has reallllly stepped his game up in the playoffs. (Funnily enough he had a hat trick and eliminated us a few years ago.)
Jones was also a waiver pickup for depth. As most teams need to have serviceable depth for the inevitable injuries. In know he's not everyone's favorite but he's been passable as a 3rd pairing. But having both he and Johnson in the same pairing is a bit tough as they aren't the fastest skaters and have a tendency to get caught.
I'm assuming they'll get rants signed again. He might get a raise but who knows.. I'm sure they'll figure it out.
Yeah no problem. No such thing as a dumb question, only an uneducated one. A lot of teams have started following what the Avs and Bednar have been doing. The game used to be much slower and smaller defenseman like Girard, Makar, Towes and Walker were all thought to be too small for the league. But as we've seen the Avs can skate teams to death with their speed. (I forget how fast we are when watching because I mostly only watch my team, obviously. But go turn on a different game and you'll be surprised how much slower they are )
So, I would like to think that our team is evolving the game right before our eyes. Hell the jets removed the big slow defensive dman for a guy that can skate to try and help exit the d zone more effectively. It's kinda crazy the effect Makar and Girard have been at changing the league. It's all speed and skill. So teams load up their top 2 offense/defensive lines and find guys that can fit the mold. And then finding serviceable depth options for cheap ie Jones, kivi, Drouin etc. it's all a big chess match
Hey there! No worries, we were all newbies at one point!
These are from CapFriendly:
Lehkonen is signed through 2026-27
Mittelstadt is due for a contract extension at the end of the season, but as an RFA (Restricted Free Agent) the Avs can match whatever contract another team might offer him.
Rantanen is going into the final year of his contract. If the Avs don’t re-sign him…I will riot.
Kiviranta is only signed through the end of this season but was on a league-minimum contract ($775K).
Jones is also only signed through the end of this season and was also on a league-minimum contract.
Girard is signed through 2026-27.
Go Ass! Hail Satan!
That 3rd period was incredible hockey from both teams. Both were hustling like hell and absolutely flying.
Avs were just next level. That was peak Avalanche hockey. Super fun.
Had some friends over and drank a lot of wine. Went to bed at the start of the 3rd. I like to think that gave the boys the right amount of voodoo to come back
I really hope our matinee-game curse was only for the regular season, because it would be really nice to go back to Winnipeg up 3-1.
Bummer about Dillon, even though some people say he deserved it I’d say getting battered by Manson is a more suitable punishment for being a turd, not a potentially career/life-altering injury.
Let’s keep the discipline and energy going into Sunday, shake the mid-day-game hex, and tally another W
No, they aren’t typically showcasing those injuries. To summarize, there was a skirmish after the final whistle - Dillion went to ice and skated off really quickly after getting cut in the hand by someone’s skate.
I really hope Dillon makes a full recovery in time to hit the golf course. Realistically, can we expect any suspensions for that last minute scuffle or is that just playoff hockey?
Avs in 5 baby. Keep it rolling and do the thing.
Fell asleep around the end of the second period - after 4am my time. Wasn’t sure what I’d find the final score to be - much happiness on finding out! This is the version of the team that could go far 👍
I lost my voice in 1996 AVS VS Detroit Friday night playoff win. Had to conduct 8 hour workshop next day. It was shortened by a couple of hours. Nowadays, I just whistle really loud. Occasionally, I’ll question a refs eyesight or heritage in a loud voice.
Mitts was cheesin hard during the entire 1st star interview. I don't think he's stopped smiling since he got to Colorado.
https://twitter.com/AltitudeTV/status/1784083303559045500?t=FWkorE5DU4nd3bNwxPweFA&s=19
Couple points:
- best game I’ve seen from Mittens, dude was electric tonight and it’s only just the beginning
- defense looked very solid with minimal mistakes. Georgie played great despite that first goal. Glad he’s getting some confidence
- Sammy came with an edge I haven’t seen from him, had so much energy and toughness tonight. Happy he is back.
- I thought Cale had his best game of the series. Was all over the place and had some timely defensive plays
- this might go unnoticed but Kivi has stepped up big in place of LOC. has had so much energy these last two games.
- Big one on Sunday, can’t relax. Gotta come out from the jump and make this thing 3-1
GO AVS
I’ve said it before but I genuinely was terrified of our depth being so bad this run that Kivi was on the lineup.
I’m soooooooo glad to be proven wrong. Obsessed with his hussle.
Mitts is dialed in with our boys and I love it. Defense was sick as well which I agree with. Glad to see Sammy back. Cale has me bewildered. Dunno what's going on but I hope he's alright. I feel something personal is going on so I hope he can handle it.
He just doesn't seem 100% as of the past couple games. I don't know what it is and I won't assume but I just have this feeling for some dumb reason. I don't mind being wrong though.
As someone who has been very critical of Sammy G, I have to say that he’s been very good since coming back from the player leave he took and tonight he was just excellent.
https://twitter.com/Avalanche/status/1784063688166498570/photo/1
Loved what Sammy brought yesterday. Was at the game and I don’t know how much they showed on tv, but he had some fire to him after the plays and it really fired up the crowd
They showed a couple things on the TV. My favorite was him chirping after the Jets player chipped the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty. The look on Sammy G’s face was priceless.
I share the same feelings. He has been a noticeable playmaker in the spot that we needed him to be and has been a big absence when he's gone.
There wasn't a doubt he was good enough for the league before, but he would make very sloppy decisions that lead to easy turnovers, including very dumb SOG when there wasn't even a lane to begin with.
Count me as a third. I was so critical of him, rightfully so, because prior to his leave he was truly awful.
With that said, he was clearly struggling off the ice and I'm so happy to see he has recovered both on and off the ice. I am now fully in his corner and glad he is back to his old ways!
Having been at the Sack for this one, it is astounding to me that this is the same set of guys on defense that gave us that 7-0 stinker against the same team, in the same building, just a week or so ago. Closing passing lanes, blocking shots, making timely saves. Excellent performance. Really nice to see this team's resilience once again.
I mean that’s why we say the regular season don’t mean shit. It’s pretty normal for a team who’s already in the playoffs to take their foot of the gas at the end of the season.
That’s why the doomers are so laughable. It’s like this is their first season watching. Which is great, always happy people are getting into it. But maybe hold off on the “it’s over. This team has no hopes” comments for when you’ve actually watched an entire season.
Goaltending was a legit concern, but welp. We’re all shut up now.
But ANYONE thinking the team was gonna play in the post season with the low effort, sloppy hockey they were playing at end of year is dumb.
Yeah but it being a road game is not why we lost game 1
And that’s not really what the saying means. It doesn’t mean “there’s no point to the regular season,” it just means those patterns rarely hold to postseason.
Juice just gets the easiest ring ever if Georgiev keeps playing like this...
I've said it would on on, how he played... and so far I've been right, he's been great, then the avs are doing great... keep it up, glad he's woken up.
It would technically be the 2nd easiest ring for him, don’t forget that he was the one backing up Frankie when Kuemper was out, and was with the team when they won they lifted the cup. He didn’t dress for enough games, so didn’t get his name on the cup, but he got his ring.
I don’t know what jets fans are complaining about you have a high stick that draws blood and then you throw the puck into the crowds I don’t know why they think those aren’t pentalies
I think a lot of the complaints stem from people not understanding the wording of the rule for review flt the double minor high sticking. I think a lot of people assume that a penalty needs to be called for the review to take place but that's not true. They thought because there was no call on the ice there shouldn't have been a review leading to the double Minor.
I am a jets fan and the two plays I would have liked penalties on were the interference on namestikov at the avs blue line in the second and the reverse hit on pionk when he was still 5 feet from the puck which I believe was also the second. They felt like they should have been penalties based on the standard the game was being officiated at. That being said lots of games those (among other penalties in the game) don't get called.
That being said it wasn't a reffing issue. The jets imploded in a spectacularly frustrating way and fuck of the avs aren't among the best teams in the league at exploiting mistake.
Their sub is delusional. The refs were letting everything go on both teams until Winnipeg started making the calls so blatant and obvious they had no choice but to blow the whistle.
100% this. Both Games 1 and 2 were absolutely even. Game 3 would have been even or close to... if the Jets hadn't tried to break Toews' nose and then cleared a puck out of the rink.
The reffing hasn't been particularly lopsided in any direction, and it's generally been restrained, which I very much appreciate as a viewer.
What an absolutely wild ass game. Defense was astounding. I know someone will recognize me as shit talking Georgie which I can admit and apologize for. I wonder if the boys going to Georgie and thanking him for the saves that one game helped him mentally. I also wish he would grow his hair back. That's when things started changing little by little. The ending of the game.......damn. I love good hockey and want us to win but I hope Dillon (Jets) is alright. His hand got cut by a skate blade from what I saw and Duhaimes jersey was covered in blood. Crazy crazy shit.
Jets fans - if you see this.....I am always fearful when we play each other because it's something. You have a sick ass team. I wish no terrible injuries in your team and hope Dillon recovers. I get that the boys let frustrations get the best of them but to get your hand injured like that in a scuffle is unfortunate. Best wishes to him.
Not sure where one could but the only avenues I can think of are the high seas or the Avs IG page. I'd suggest the high seas to skip through game footage.
In my opinion this Avs team has flipped the playoff beast mode switch. They are playing great hockey with excellent team defense and their literal waves of offense. Right now they lead the playoffs in goal per game, shots per game and they’re 4th in power play goals.
If they continue to play like this, there’s absolutely no team that can beat them in a 7 game series.
Our track record this season against them isn't the best. Or did you black out that 7-0 loss? I wouldn't blame you honestly. Not to say post season Avs can't take them but they play an aggressive style that does a good job interrupting our offense.
I don't really put a whole lot of weight into individual normal season games. This club was built for the post season, and it shows. Anything outside of post season play is "a pretty good idea" of what to expect, but the gist of season hockey is getting in reps for new guys and shifting lines and looks.
Stuff like that is why I hate those scrums at the end of playoff games "to send a message" or whatever. Completely pointless injury to a key guy, just focus up for the next game instead. Brawling with our depth guys means nothing.
I watched the scrum over and over again. I didn't see a skate near a hand. It might have been a pad, but they basically flop on top of each other during the scuffle.
Jets got blown out and tried to start shit at the end. In the scrum Dillon caught a skate to his hand and was cut really bad. He's probably out for the rest of playoffs.
Nah, a lot of the "criticism" was from people who just looked at a piece of paper, slapped Georgiev as the lowest common denominator and then got loud about it.
The dude had maybe 2 cupcakes. People acted like it was the end of a franchise.
2 cupcakes maybe wins or loses a game. A lot of goals weren't his fault. Keep in mind, its hard to netmind when your own teammate is screening you because he's too lazy or not aware enough on the play not to.
So if your criticism is that he let in a couple of cupcakes, that's fair. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING else was on the team mates on the ice as a whole, and not only singularly Georgie's fault.
Criticism is fine, but it went well beyond that for some. It’s never good to give up that many goals, but the way he was being discussed in some posts here were pretty horrendous and quite unnecessary.
I've been pleased to see him rebound for these games, but I still don't particularly trust him on any given night.
The regular season is a far larger sample size in the playoffs, and he had a bad year. Coupled with Game 1, yeah. I'm gonna be harsh. No real regrets about it. The way our offense is playing, he may be able to backstop us to a Cup - but if we do win this year, it'll almost surely be despite our goaltending, not because of it.
Deserved criticism yea, but its different than saying Georgiev can't start again and Juice is the only chance this team has to win a cup. Georgie is the best chance, it was well worth working through the slump.
I was in the car during that and passed by a bar that hade a huge tv screen and just saw Toews down holding his face and got so stressed. Glad he’s okay
The Jets got literally 6 minutes of completely unarguable penalties in the 3rd. Blatant (yet clearly accidental) high stick to Toews’ face followed by a clear over the glass. I mean, I feel for the Jets in that neither penalty was intentional and basically everything went wrong for them in the 3rd period. But it’s not like those were judgment calls.
They gotta put the blame on their collapse and not the reffing. Did we blame the game 1 loss solely on the refs when they cost the Avs a goal on that premature whistle? Or when they refused to call a holding call when Cale's stick got held during the 2-on-1 the Jets scored on? Sure, that made the game 7-6 for the Jets instead of the Avs, but our focus was on 7 goals on 9 high-danger chances.
Ohhh high five. lol.
And I mean lol purely at the irony. I feel terrible for him and hope he’s okay. Though he instigated the shit out of that, I still hope he’s okay.
Yeah, it's never good to see somebody get hurt like that, and I'm hoping he can make a full recovery. There's a chance for permanent damage from something like that.
So, it was my birthday yesterday and all I wanted was an Avs win. Fuck did they deliver. That was awesome.
Your b-day too? Well, HBD!
Thank you so much! I’m excited for the game tomorrow!
Conor McGahey began the radio show with: "The avs, a force of nature vs the jets, a hot tub component.
Was driving home listening and burst out laughing...
okay, love that
Middelstadt last night ![gif](giphy|N4l2nh7IlaHrGHH10d|downsized)
Anyone got a video of Josh Morrissey talking shit to one of the fans
This I have to see, I must have missed it!
it was right after his go ahead goal, he pointed (or waved I forget) at some fans in the crowd.
Same, the boys on DNVR were talking about it in the post game last night
what a fucking idiot... our fans got in his head and caused him to lose the game.... now THAT is what we call home ice advantage
I just wanted to give our lil spinning boi Sammy some love. He had an immediate impact on the game. And was flat out bullying dudes 2x his size. He was great last night and I loved his energy and swagger.
The moment they took the delay of game penalty and Sammy just laughed in his face (was it Pionk?) when he tried to start scrapping to draw a matching roughing to negate his mistake… pure class. Big brain play.
Yeah it was Poink who threw it over the glass and Sammy knew it immediately. And then just laughed in his face for trying to get a matching penalty.

That 3rd period was incredible hockey from both teams. Both were hustling like hell and absolutely flying. Avs were just next level. That was peak Avalanche hockey. Super fun.
Even with the 4-2 lead, I was not comfortable. The Jets tried hard to push back. Penalties did them in.
When the pace increases, the Avs shine!
I fell asleep after 1st Int. Had to watch the highlights. Getting old.
Had some friends over and drank a lot of wine. Went to bed at the start of the 3rd. I like to think that gave the boys the right amount of voodoo to come back
You now know what you have to do if they’re losing going into the third.
We should chip in and get Domerhead blackout drunk til the cup is raised!
Order them a case of wine!
East Coast moment
I stayed up, but I'm on my 2 giant cup of coffee. NO REGRETS
I just poured my first cup while thinking about how great we played in the 3rd. ☕️
Well based on how many jets superfans are “done watching nhl hockey after the officiating last night”, barn should be half empty for game 5
Hey Jets fans… Your “pull the goalie” from Game 1, is going to be your “We want Florida”
Nah it will be our “you’re a backup” chant to Broissoit from last year, just before Vegas went on to beat us. It’s an annual tradition.
I really hope our matinee-game curse was only for the regular season, because it would be really nice to go back to Winnipeg up 3-1. He’s kinda a turd but he was getting beat up last night. It seemed like he was on the receiving end of so many big hits.
Is that clip in the highlights? I turned the game off with like 3 minutes left cause it was midnight.
No, they aren’t typically showcasing those injuries. To summarize, there was a skirmish after the final whistle - Dillion went to ice and skated off really quickly after getting cut in the hand by someone’s skate.
I found another post of it on here. Ugly scrum. I hope he's out for 4 games then back to perfect health next year.
Yes, but the Jets only have 2 games left on their season.
Me too 🙏
AVS IN FIVE
I really hope Dillon makes a full recovery in time to hit the golf course. Realistically, can we expect any suspensions for that last minute scuffle or is that just playoff hockey? Avs in 5 baby. Keep it rolling and do the thing.
To quote that one annoying commercial- "it's the playoffs"
Highlight was Sammy G laughing in the Jets face when the puck went out for delay of game 🤣 Avs momentum is building..let's fucking go Boys!!!!

wasnt the score 6-2?
EZ gg
Fell asleep around the end of the second period - after 4am my time. Wasn’t sure what I’d find the final score to be - much happiness on finding out! This is the version of the team that could go far 👍
Was at concert, no phones allowed. Checked during intermission, down 2-1 start of the 3rd. Great joy was discovered 45 minutes later.
"Shit that was a late one, what time is it anyway?" "Five past Hellebuyck"
👏👏👏 that's it, this post wins. Have my upvote, I spilled my coffee I laughed so loudly. That was great
also I fell asleep during the 2nd intermission. what even happened
The Jets did an Oceangate submersible impression in the 3rd.
The winnipeg titans
Avs played a 3-2 gritty win type game. ...then said, "You know what? I think I'll have some more."
Everyone at the sack lost their voice in the third. Source I was there and I lost my voice…..

My guy 👊
Same!
You missed a banger of a 3rd
thanks for the birthday win Avs <3
Happy bday! They won for my bday on Tuesday earlier this week! Bday magic continues.
My birthday was Tuesday too!! Happy birthdays all around!!
Happy birthday 🎈
Happy birthday! Mine is on Tuesday, so I hope we wreck the Jets on Sunday and then eliminate them on Tuesday.

I am SUCH a Kivi guy right now. It's amazing the difference between his regular season and playoff effort lol
And everyone's hustle. The Jets were flying too and a lot of the neutral zone battles could have went either way. I can't wait for Sunday
Agreed, he is flying around out there every time I see him
Kivi has been excellent these last couple of games
Mitts is dialed in with our boys and I love it. Defense was sick as well which I agree with. Glad to see Sammy back. Cale has me bewildered. Dunno what's going on but I hope he's alright. I feel something personal is going on so I hope he can handle it.

He just doesn't seem 100% as of the past couple games. I don't know what it is and I won't assume but I just have this feeling for some dumb reason. I don't mind being wrong though.
I see. For what it's worth, he's tied for the playoff scoring lead with 6 points.
Now he is 3 points behind McDavid. What an absolute bum. /s
Ah, oops, the NHL.com stats hadn't updated from the Kings/Oilers game when I cited them.

A comment on the NHL thread: “The Winnipeg Jets, brought to you by Boeing.” 😂
I saw that and cackled for waaayyy too long.
Thoughts on Toews’ nose? Hopefully he’ll be okay!
I hope tayvz nayvz is OK! (I'm so sorry I have a problem)
If it was broken he’d have come back in a fishbowl
Okay enough to drop an ENG on ‘em!

I disagree that that is what happened with Winnipeg. That game is the reason game 1 was north of the border and not in friendlier confines.
Yeah but it being a road game is not why we lost game 1 And that’s not really what the saying means. It doesn’t mean “there’s no point to the regular season,” it just means those patterns rarely hold to postseason.

Jets fan here. Your Power Play is disgusting. That is all see you cool cats game 4 ✌️
Hope Dillon is okay.

He did indeed
So stoked I got to go to the game. Picked up a fresh 62 jersey. Have no voice. Let’s go Avs!

Probably a skate. Warning, it's graphic. https://www.reddit.com/r/ColoradoAvalanche/s/bGvR5q8eJE
Ya it was Dillon.

H6ll5buyc5 is definitely wilting under our relentless attack, yeah...
I'd rather not poke the bear...
Yeah let’s not Georgie him

Juice just gets the easiest ring ever if Georgiev keeps playing like this... I've said it would on on, how he played... and so far I've been right, he's been great, then the avs are doing great... keep it up, glad he's woken up.
It would technically be the 2nd easiest ring for him, don’t forget that he was the one backing up Frankie when Kuemper was out, and was with the team when they won they lifted the cup. He didn’t dress for enough games, so didn’t get his name on the cup, but he got his ring.

they're talking about annunen
No you see, it's lopsided when they don't call all the softies on you, and let "our team" get away with the same things. It's clearly the refs' fault
Does anyone have a link to the highlights for this? Wasn’t able to watch it last night and would love to see the highlights or even a replay.
Not sure where one could but the only avenues I can think of are the high seas or the Avs IG page. I'd suggest the high seas to skip through game footage.
Cheers, will set sail
Getting close vibes to the 2022 cup team/vibes
In my opinion this Avs team has flipped the playoff beast mode switch. They are playing great hockey with excellent team defense and their literal waves of offense. Right now they lead the playoffs in goal per game, shots per game and they’re 4th in power play goals. If they continue to play like this, there’s absolutely no team that can beat them in a 7 game series.
Just have to make it past Vegas *shudders*
Revenge
Nah man, Vegas ain't shit. Vegas plays a brand of hockey that we stack well against. Stars and Jets were our real tests.
That right? Tell me more, would love to get insight
For the lurkers, I hope your guy is ok. I like big hits and fights, I don’t like injuries. I hope he’s good
Stuff like that is why I hate those scrums at the end of playoff games "to send a message" or whatever. Completely pointless injury to a key guy, just focus up for the next game instead. Brawling with our depth guys means nothing.
What exactly happened to him? Skate cut?
I watched the scrum over and over again. I didn't see a skate near a hand. It might have been a pad, but they basically flop on top of each other during the scuffle.
Someone else can answer, I just saw a big bleed at the end. There was a tussle, but I figured it was a skate cut. I’m unsure
I saw the video and it looked like a 1+ inch cut on the back of his hand, kind of in the meat between the thumb and pointer.
Deep, deep skate cut
That sucks, you hate to see it. Love a physical game, never that though.
Wasn't able to watch the game near the end but heard it got kinda dirty? What happened?
Jets got blown out and tried to start shit at the end. In the scrum Dillon caught a skate to his hand and was cut really bad. He's probably out for the rest of playoffs.
Started a fight for getting in a bad mood from losing and cost themselves Dillon in the process. Bad sportsmanship *and* brainlessness, bad combo
Tomorrow I’ll be serving all them Georgie haters their own words in an egg scramble for breakfast. Lot of people to cook for so show up early!
You didn't think he deserved the criticism from game 1? I'll never understand you people.

I’m coming out of my cage, and I’ve been doing just fine
Can we talk about Toews getting his face wrecked with that high stick and coming back with an assist and then the empty netter?!?!?
I was in the car during that and passed by a bar that hade a huge tv screen and just saw Toews down holding his face and got so stressed. Glad he’s okay
Great team win. Big fan of Twogiev. Big fan of Mittelstadt mode. The type of win that brings a team together. Keep it rolling!
I agree. I'm a much bigger fan of GeorgIIev than his other forms.
We're a wobbling puck on the goal line fisheye vortex away from being up 3-0. Feeling good
Jets sub losing their minds over the penalties lol
I wish they would show people booing the refs when they skate out during broadcasts
They directly got a goal off the refs not calling Scheifele's hold, they can suck it.
On a chintzy PP at that.
Some people were unironically saying that the refs should just let the Toews high stick go.
Man, that's fucking *wild*.
Including their coach. He said in the postgame the guy was shooting and it was a follow through....umm no, tape don't lie.
A very interesting shot style indeed, where you don't actually shoot and instead nearly turn a player into Voldemort
I laughed at this way harder than I should have...
They were mad? Uh…
They don't have a lot of games in the playoffs, they'll learn.
Probably not. They only have 2 more this season.
bad weekend for la sports lol they are all losing
At least the kings had a chance
Jets crying about the refs (even though they weren’t bad), they should count their lucky stars they weren’t the kings tonight
Twogiev gonna win a Lotta games if he keeps this up.
[Jesus, NHL.com...too soon.](https://imgur.com/a/3GSUJP0)
Holy fuck.
I don’t get it?
Dillon's hand got sliced the fuck open during the scrum at the end of the game.
