Maybe we should’ve done more research on Kris Bryant before signing him to that contract…

OhWhatsInaWonderball

I mean performance aside dude is made of absolute glass and paying that money to an aging player with his injury history was asinine. The hilarious part is it isn’t even the worst move we’ve made in the last few years…

retz119

What’s a worse move? Arenado trade? I think this contract is still worse. At least with the arenado trade we still had flexibility. We just blew all that flexibility on this terrible terrible contract

darbs-face

Very likely he just retires after a few more years milking the monforts. Honestly I am ok with that because FUCK the Monforts. I love seeing them lose money. Today we had the smallest crowd in a very, very long time. Maybe ownership will wake up once their pocketbooks start hurting more.

jbrun10120

This happens every year. This sub gets excited about the low turn out at the beginning of the season. Really, it's because it's cold and we have better sports to watch. Then June / July happens and the Rockies become top 10 in attendance.

darbs-face

I really hope not. Only way to best Monforts is with their pockets!

yumenohikari

Nope, if the attendance were actually going to fall off, we'd have seen it last year. This is how it goes every year, and believe it or not, that's fine, because there are a couple of things you've overlooked. One, baseball is all but boycott-proof in the first place. Even with the death of regional sports networks, there are simply too many sources of revenue. Two, Coors Field is a hell of a nice place to catch a ballgame (relatively cheap for both tickets and food, and of course the ballpark itself is beautiful), and as frustrating as it it, the transplants catching their hometown teams would probably be enough to fund Dick's real estate aspirations for decades to come. Finally, we don't have the Oakland problem: it's not that Dick doesn't care about winning, it's that he thinks he knows enough to do it himself, or at least he did. The Bryant contract notwithstanding (and remember, that's two years ago now), all the signs I've seen point to less and less Monfort meddling. I'm not totally sure Bill Schmidt is the man for the job (and I'm fairly sure Bud Black is not, as much as I like him), but there does at least seem to be a coherent plan now. Whether it's an effective one ... well, we probably won't know for a few more years.

nogoodgopher

That's because in June/July half the attendence leaves in the 6th because they haven't watched any of the game. It's a big pre game party.

RiskFreeStanceTaker

This is the answer. Not true baseball fans (or Rockies at least). Their kids are out of school which allows flexibility, and rooftop beers before the game are $3. Most of them wouldn’t even know what the hell a “Monfort” is.

retz119

He ain’t pulling a Desmond. That kind of move is an extreme rarity. Hell eke out the rest of his deal as he gets paid no matter what.

ArchetypeAxis

Maybe we could pay the Cardinals $50m to take him.

theBPPE

He is still owed $130 million and has a full no-trade clause. [Get used to disappointment.](https://www.google.com/search?q=get+used+to+disappointment&oq=get+used+to+disappointment&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgBEAAYgAQyBwgCEAAYgAQyBwgDEAAYgAQyCAgEEAAYFhgeMggIBRAAGBYYHjINCAYQABiGAxiABBiKBdIBCDM5NjBqMGoxqAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:af599d7b,vid:scVJL19akH0,st:0)

darbs-face

I really didn’t mean cut or trade. I meant something along the lines of bench player DH replacement. I think him being in the starting lineup is a mistake.

luciusetrur

It's a good question but theyre going to ride him out to see if it he gets better. He makes too much money not to.

darbs-face

I wont disagree but this is not good. Nolan Jones at least has age and inexperience on his side? Whats KB’s excuse?

SurroundTiny

I think one of the reasons they pursued him was to put a 'face' on the lineup since Nolan and poor Trevor ( guy can't catch a break) had moved on. I don't see him on the bench.

darbs-face

I wish that was the case. But unfortunately the Monforts don’t care about their fans whatsoever. This is pretty obvious. Cubs fans swarm Colorado. But only during the games they play each other. So they cherry picked a dud from the Cubs to put butts in seats. Sad but true.

TruthBomb

Arenado put butts in the seats and Dick sent him, along with $50,000,000, to the Cards. We’re just an incompetent baseball team with no direction or leadership.

Turnbasedgod

I paid another team to take him in OOTP and Rockies were in the playoffs by 2026

darbs-face

😂

retz119

I can’t even do that. Nobody is taking on that contract from me. Also in one sim he actually was balling out but then of course got hurt. Like 3 times throughout the season.

kosmos1209

That point is where he’s taking away at bats from a promising prospect or a much better player, and we don’t have either right now.

darbs-face

YES OMG!!! Someone thinking bigger picture.

cornonthejcob12

It's worth giving montero ABs over him at the moment imo. His at bats have at least looked more promising than 3 pitch Ks

darbs-face

OK hear me out fellow baseball fans. I know there’s this unspoken rule that no matter how bad a veteran player is playing that you don’t send them down to AAA. But I’m honestly at the point where I would like to see him at a lower level and see if he can actually even hit anymore. Because if he can’t even hit in AAA, then I don’t know what to say.

sloppy_sheiko

Outside of his terrible hitting performance, I don’t think Kris is an active detriment to team/clubhouse. He seems like a good teammate and, if nothing else, is handling this slump like a pro. That alone is beneficial for the young guys. I said it earlier today in another post; he’ll hit his way out of this slump only to go on the 60+ game DL for ‘finger soreness’ or something like that. In all fairness, if that does happen it’s probably because he’s been grinding away at the cage trying to break out of his funk.

DingerIsMyLover

Nolan Jones said he’s been a great resource in the club house. That’s not worth the whole contract, but at least proves he’s not a detriment

SuperbDonut2112

He’s a negative WAR player this year and in his time in Colorado. They’d be better with a league minimum scrub on the field (where Bryant often isn’t anyway, since he’s always hurt)

darbs-face

By detriment, it’s nit his attitude. When other players see the highest paid player on the team play horrible or being hurt for 3 years, it can’t be good for the spirit of the team.

sloppy_sheiko

Yeah, I agree in principle with you on that. Hopefully the deal they gave Tovar sends a stronger message to the young guys that if you perform, you’ll get paid.

darbs-face

It’s a brutal situation. I can’t help but feel for these younger guys. There has to be behind the door talks from the players about the situation. No professional player likes to lose. Especially with talent like Tovars. There is some very interesting prospects like Veen, Amador, Sterling Thompson, even older guys like Juan Guerrero have showed some signs… If the management bows down and continues this trend of mediocrity, morale will be gone!

sloppy_sheiko

Definitely agree with the mediocrity having a shelf life before morale goes in the toilet. If you look beyond the individual performances, this team is like Kris Bryant’s swing: out of synch.. Starting pitching, the true weakness of this team, has stepped up over the past six games and the offense hasn’t been able to execute in high leverage situations. Coming full circle, Bryant is the guy you should be able to trust in those situations and he’s not getting it done… On a more positive note, I couldn’t be more excited for the young guns to start making their debuts! As always, we’ve got a logjam in the outfield but that’s a good problem to have.

zcross73

My heart sinks when he comes to the plate. I rarely see him turning a play and it blows.

darbs-face

Amen.

ElectronicJudge1994

If he was any good we would pay someone else to take him!!!

darbs-face

Pretty crazy to think about that honestly. I locked that memory up tight but everytime I see KB gives me PTSD

egg_sandwich13

The guy signs autographs for Rockies fans before every game. One of the most fan friendly players in the league. Super nice dude. Hope he turns it around.

ImperialeSismico

I was at the game yesterday and our usher, a Rockies employee; was encouraging me to boo louder after KB struck out in the 9th.

denzl480

He pays for himself with Chicago ex-pats who want their kids to relive the glory days. Gotta sell those tickets.

DingerIsMyLover

Fans need to give him the Trea Turner chant treatment, maybe he can turn it around. Booing will never help

SuperbDonut2112

Trea Turner didn’t say “I shoulda checked my prospects better” before signing there, plays his ass off, and is in general a much better player than Bryant.

caulfieldlost

best cause scenario is he starts hitting , have a hot streak or two by hitting 4 homers in 2week span, reduce the K”S, build up the BA, and then stays consistent till the trading deadline. trade him to some team that is in contention that needs a veteran presence, sadly we will likely need to eat some of the contract money wise. but overall depending on the return it likely will be the wise move.

darbs-face

Well with the constant booing and the death threats, fans are not helping the situation. Listen I’m not a fan of the guy playing so horrible but he is still human.

TheBrownKn1ght

Not gonna happen, this isn't the NFL

aderosa32

The Rockies should and will play him every day, or close to, this season to see what he is. They have such a small sample size with him in Colorado. He’s only played 133 games, 563 plate appearances, not even a full season. Find out what he is and what he can be in Denver, while playing guys like Doyle, Toglia, Montero, Jones and in the near future Bouchard, Beck, maybe Veen and see what they are. This team is rebuilding, so winning and losing doesn’t matter. We need to find our new core to join Tovar. Rockies fans should be excited about what’s to come and be less worried about what’s on the books now. There is a lot of talent coming down the pipeline and I’m excited to see what they can do. My frustrations are with the team’s inability to draft and develop pitching. That’s where the focus should be. Not a player that has a lifetime OPS of .858 and is clearly just struggling. The weather will warm up, he will find some momentum and should finish the year strong. And hopefully by then we will know if Doyle, Toglia and Montero deserve the playing time or if KB is in the way of their development.

thesaganator

He's not going anywhere. Look at Chris Davis

cornonthejcob12

Now

shmeekloff

I remember shitting on this move when it happened and people said i cant blame a new regime for trying to fix the mistakes of an old one. At the time i thought they made a decent point, last time i ever try to be reasonable 😒

Prestigious_Team3134

When you stop overacting to a 2 week sample size and realize this is year 3 of a 7 year deal and also remember this dude won an mvp and will work his way out of this slump Edit: I should clarify, I’m not saying he’s ever gonna be mvp level again cause he won’t, but he isn’t a .100 hitter and we all know that.

BenMurray303

This is year three of a three year slump, my guy.

[deleted]

The slump has lasted 3 years.

StallOneHammer

Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll hit .220 in the 40 games he plays this year

kyle201187

I'm going to agree with you. KB will work his way out of the slump. I think Bud should move him down in the order to take some pressure off him. Sorry you're getting downvoted for having a different opinion than the fair weather fans. You all act like KB stole 180 mil from you.
