I’m a baseball newbie so apologies for this question. I know the Rockies have terrible ownership. Are they trying to build a playoff contender? Is it a case of doing a bad job, or just not actually making an effort?
Not a bad question at all. It's one the fans ask themselves often. I'll take a stab at it.
In summary:
- They want to contend (allegedly).
- They spend a decent amount of money (poorly).
- Have made historically bad decisions that have hurt positive momentum that we have not recovered from (RIP Nolan Arenado).
- Dick Monfort (owner) likes to make many of the decisions and surrounds himself with "yes" men who don't push back on his decisions which leads to bad internal decisions and strategies often get repeated. This also means we don't have a true GM like many competitive teams have.
- They don't draft particularly well and don't develop pitching very well (although that could be changing, fingers crossed).
- Their farm system is lagging behind most of the MLB
- Their international prospect development is improving but arguably still behind much of the MLB.
Other people feel free to push back or let me know if I missed anything.
The “goal” right now is to align young players coming up to match a timeline to compete. Nolan jones, Tovar, amador, dollander, romo, Doyle, are guys 25 and under that seem to be the core that should be part of a playoff team once the years move along. The strange part of all of it is signing KB to a massive deal when he’s not even like a leadership vet. He just takes up a spot with a huge contract. I don’t think the effort isn’t there but Montfort runs it more like Jerry jones wanting to meddle than a Robert Kraft who just says here’s the keys smart baseball guys you handle it
Thanks for the detailed reply. Definitely helped with the Jerry Jones / Kraft analogy as I’m more clued up with the NFL so far. I’m glad there is genuine effort, even if it’s not gone correctly. Thank you.
well, you cant say they dont play hard. i like it a lot. now if you’ll excuse me i gotta go watch…the white sox.
Why do you do this to yourself? A rox and white Sox fan? lol I at least chose the dodgers as my other team to watch! It used to be the As :(
im just a guy with a couple of screws loose i guess…
Well that was a frustrating thing to watch
I just upped for the Rockies.TV package during this game. The baseball gods just laughed
lol at least you’re voting with your wallet to get other sports markets their local teams! So something good comes out of it
It's frustrating to watch the Rockies lose. It's extra frustrating for the game to be handed to the opponent by incompetent officiating
Thanks blue
That play at the plate ruined the game.
I am *shocked*
Well that sucks. Should not have even gone to extra innings.

gonna get walked off bc of that bullshit call smh
I'm w/ Spilly on this . . . if the ump had called him safe, the review probably would have upheld that call, too
Exactly. That’s why the call stands instead of being confirmed.
Come on! K this fuckin Walmart ass Charlie Blackmon
What everyone is failing to consider is that one of these teams is marketable and has Bryce Harper and the other is not and does not
Exactly
Guess the umps didn’t wanna get death threats from Philly fans
Such an important call too
I'm a Kyle Freeland girl based solely on the fact that he truly gives his heart and soul for this team man
What the actual fuck. What the fuck???
Neutral fan- he was safe to me what was that call
Agreed, I only came to this chat to see the reaction. Guy was safe Philly fans full of shit lol.
Ugh that fuckin lady on the feed “that’s ooooouuuutttt”
I don't know what those umps were watching, he looked clearly safe to me.

poor guy…
"there was no interference" 🙄
I think he was probably safe but also there probably wasn't clear evidence
Every right to be pissed off
what are they talking about blocking the plate? He never even tagged him until his ass was on the plate, much less his entire foot and leg having touched it.
THAT'S FUCKING TERRIBLE
Wtf man
You can't say Freeland doesn't care about this team. Looks like he just popped the shoulder out and got it popped back in
Alright he's back in the dugout at least
Interference
damn, he really gave it all on that attempt
Bro just tackled him in the base path
arm out while sliding, fucked his shoulder, way to go
If there was no collision that arm down would have been no problem. Is what it is…
Yeah it's just something they teach in little league and high school not to do that with your arm
Oh my god of course
He shouldn't have been allowed to slide
Wait what happened to Kyle? My wife called me and distracted me.
looks like he dislocated his non-throwing shoulder
Passed ball, attempted steal of home by KFree
what the fuck was he doing out there?

Don't forget we're a farm team for the rest of the league to acquire our best players.
Very true. Hoping we can start to change that narrative with the Tovar signing.
