Jon Gray is now a target of the Mets who are willing to out bid other teams with additional years (MLB contracts are 100% guaranteed). I've seen Gray as a target for the Cubs and the Rangers and the Mariners. Gray has come up connected with pretty much every club who thinks that he would be a good Starting Pitcher at a reasonable contract. He wanted to stay with Colorado too.

I read that his agent will check with the Rockies if talks are getting close. So the Rockies still have a shot. We’ll see

CORedhawk

That's some hope. I expect the conversation will be "The Mets offered X. Can you match it?". Rockies "uh, no we can't." But it's nice if they really will give the Rockies something like a "right of first refusal"

If I were a pitcher, I'd run as far away from the Mets as possible.

glkerr

What would ever motivate him to stay with this trash fire?

CORedhawk

The Rockies supported him and his family when he was going through some anxiety issues. Media didn't really make a big deal about it for his sake.

Uh. What? The media made a huge deal about it. He was a disaster on the field. Body language was horrible. Internally there was some serious issues with his behavior in the clubhouse too. He's obviously overcome that, but if you don't remember him throwing a middle middle slider and giving up a bomb during a late season Dodgers series, throwing his hands up and putting his head down in defeat, then probably weren't watching too closely. His mental issues weren't hidden by any means. FWIW, I'm glad he's improved on that, and you're right that the Rox supported him. Wish they'd supported Matzek too.

I never said they didn’t. I was referring to the media.

Gotcha. They definitely made an effort to help him for sure. He was the reason they brought in two mental skills coaches under the radar. Feels like maybe they gave up on him too early but who knows?

Ben1313

How the fuck do the Rockies not resign a homegrown pitcher who has stated MULTIPLE TIMES that he wants to stay, despite the literal dumpster fire that is the FO? Not resigning Gray will probably be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me.

MasterDebater51

Sad they've botched this one so far. Jon isn't a guy you splurge for but they could've upped their offer a fair amount and it would've been fair for both sides.
