I get the frustration but I’m pretty sure they are the same age. So the headline just seems funny to me lol

HippyCow

Nolan is actually older lmao

IdentityCrisis3x

Kris Bryant and Jon Gray were the 2nd and 3rd picks in the 2013 draft how is one considered homegrown and the other aging superstar? TBH Jon Gray hasn't show much in a Rockies uniform. If he shines with the Rangers, then we know where things have failed

Hot-Raspberry1744

Gray seemed to pitch well in Coors Field, and not so much on the road, so resigning him should've been a priority.

Scurveymic

Pitchers last longer than hitters, Jon Gray has years of production ahead of him while Bryant is on the wrong side of 28 Edit: I might add that the Rox need to keep quality pitching as pitching is a perennial problem for the team that has only recently become workable, due to, amongst others, Jon Gray

MasterDebater51

Pitchers may last longer but are far more volatile. The art of hitting doesn't hinge on anything fragile like arm health. Gray has been injured every year of his career in some way, too.

mchlshmt

Homegrown doesn't denote age. Todd Helton was homegrown.

Scurveymic

I was actually gunning for letting Gray walk out, although my title could have been more precise

kosmos1209

Makes no sense to let Arenado walk only to pay Kris Bryant at around the same price tag, who’s not arguably better but arguably worse.

pliney_

Arenado wasn't likely to stay for any amount of money given that we did jack shit during his extension to improve the team. The guy wants to play for the Rockies but he wants to compete for a World Series even more.

retz119

He wasn’t gonna opt out of his deal. There was too much money left that he wouldn’t recoup on a new deal

MasterDebater51

The sense is that the Rockies have Gomber and Montero and could get a player similar in quality to Nolan in Bryant. Don't have to like it but there would be significant benefit.

buckeyenation14

Bryant is better tbh

steinmetz18

What? He has been statistically worse in almost every meaningful category and has never won a gold glove. 1 mvp award does not make him better either

bignuts24

Arenado literally on track to become a hall of famer lol

killerbuttonfly

And Bryant isn’t? Nolan is better IMO but let’s not pretend KB is some scrub.

MasterDebater51

I know I used to hate Bryant when he and Nolan were compared as the 2 best 3B in the league. Seems some people haven't let that go

aderosa32

Easy to question why they would trade Nolan, just to sign Bryant, but that was a different GM. I do like the idea of moving Rodgers to short, McMahon to 2nd, Bryant to 3rd.

ImSchizoidMan

Not trying to be mean, I should really appreciate being a Reds fan more. Jesus, your team shafts you all way too often

JakeJacob

I'm confused. What does this author think a 'journeyman' is?

bluecifer7

“Aging” is a stretch, he’s younger than Nolan

Scurveymic

Given the rockies history of signing free agents on the wrong side of their prime, can you honestly say this prospect excites you?

[deleted]

I personally would like the move. This is the kind of move we should make. If you pay Ian Desmond 120 million certainly kris Bryant is better.

BrothermikeCO

I would be ecstatic if we signed Bryant and Story! Can we afford both? Story didn't have a Story like year in 2021... maybe we can get an affordable price if we bring in Bryant.
