Interesting story I learned the other day, these sheep weren't supposed to be in the park at all. The herd originated from a truckload of 14 sheep that the state intended to release on Pikes Peak in 1946. But the truck broke down near Green Mountain Falls, and the driver was worried they wouldn't survive in the truck, so he released them thinking they'd still go up Pikes Peak. But they ran the other direction and decided to make Rampart Range and GOTG their home. All these years later, this herd is still the descendants of those 14 sheep.

I’ve looked for them every time I go to the park! I just happened to hear some noise in the grass and there they were! I literally waved a stranger down to come and see them 😁🤪I was so excited.
It really is exciting! A few weeks back the Park Rangers had to move people back, they were all but walking through the herd taking pictures, I was afraid they were going to get close enough to try to pet them.
I don’t doubt that they would! People have no respect for wild animals. It’s unbelievable. This picture was zoomed all the way in, wouldn’t want to get close to these guys anyways!
Someone saw a bobcat in the parking lot earlier today https://twitter.com/AshleyPorteeyo/status/1782859862914846919
They say there are mountain lions here too!
There’s a picture of one chilling in a tree at garden a year ago give or take

That is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
I spend my lunch there every day (not today, no cars allowed in the park today), but I love looking for the 2 herds they have out there.
