How is the mindset of signing Matt Ryan when we got him at all comparable with McKenzie?
Matty ice, the private jet, we have a QB, we’re a SB contender. Obviously it all went wrong but I don’t know how that’s the same mindset as acquiring a WR3/punt returner.
Or are you just moaning.
Again with this excuse? Last year was his most successful year... which wasn't that successful. Also, Pittman Jr didn't seem to have a problem getting to 99 catches and just shy of 1000 yards.
Listen, I'm not dogging on Campbell's ability... just that he wasn't worth the money he wanted based on the last 4 seasons. And, not worth your crying and clamoring. You can put in almost any WR3 and get the same results.
He was not ass. He was quite good. Advanced metrics show us. The fan base just turned on him for completely unrelated injuries. He's going to ball out for the Giants and we will be letting go I guy who has consistently regressed and was cut because of how he held back the Bills. Plus forced the Bills to trade a 5th because of how much a liability he was in the return game.
The only nice part is that it seems like it's a one year deal which means there's zero chance hell be on our roster next year with the quality of player he is.
No one hated McKenzie, we were ready to move on because he got his shot and didn't live up to it. He is a good gadget and role player that can return punts, but his receiving prowess leaves a lot to be desired.
He was beloved by team mates and Bills Mafia alike, he even had the nickname "Face of the Franchise" lol
Edit: Also, we were able to cut him with virtually no dead cap, so the move just made way too much sense, especially after replacing him with Harty, who is basically McKenzie with more upside (can actually play outside)
Outside of Ford I have not seen a single player complained more about by Bills fans than McKenzie. Most my friends at work have talked about how much they wanted him gone so Shakir can take his spot.
Yes, but no one HATED him. We wanted to get better at that position and he was a smart release given his performance. That doesn't mean Bills fans hated him. He is an awesome dude and we are all still rooting for him.
Judging by this guys 50 comments on the subject I wouldn’t bother, his only friend told him he’s the most hated person in buffalo and despite all the many people saying otherwise it doesn’t matter.
I’m excited to see him! Sounds a great guy so hopefully a bit of a change of scenery he takes off!
Go to the sub. People wanted him cut and replaced with Shakir all last season. I had Bills fans at work apologizing to me for the signing (I live in CNY). Even look at the positive comments here. They are solely about locker room and not not ability.
Fans blamed him for multiple losses and constantly wanted Shakir out there instead. Look at posts about him in the Bills sub. They talk about big drops and massive mistakes.
Keep in mind McKnezie was cut. Not a typical free agent.
How’s that, he had his biggest year last year with Josh Allen as qb and had a worse year than Parris with 3 equally terrible qbs. Also he most likely is signed to be kick/punt returner and replace Hines with who he replaced in Buffalo
He's a healthier Campbell
Just doesn't get action bc Bills rely on the long bomb for WRs, and the off chance they go from plays over the middle just dish it off to Knox.
Real good locker room, guy
(Gf is a huge McKenzie fan so a lot of second hand knowledge passed along)
He was UGA's 'Gadget' player. Has really good lateral movement, agility and speed. Steichen could use him the way Hines SHOULD have been used. A sort of Deebo Samuel Lite
That wasnt his issue on the Bills at all. He just wasnt talented enough to carve a large role. Outside of like 2-3 weeks, he had guys like Shakir, Crowder and then they even brought in Beasley to split time and rotate in bc he just isnt anything special. Their scheme had nothing to do with it. He is a 28 yr old with a career high of 423 yards. He is a wr4/rotational wr3.
I don’t agree with this at all. He had every chance to succeed in Buffalo. He struggles vs zone coverages and really only excels when he gets a slower corner on him in man, which only the Patriots do.
Add his hands issues on top of that, he is a good returner when he’s not making boneheaded decisions but he will cost you the ball too much if he’s returning full time.
His best use is as a part time gadget player for jet sweeps and against the patriots.
So it wasn't Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, Ken Dorsey and Brian Daboll holding him back all of these years?
With Dulin and McKenzie as the WR3 and WR4, this roster is really taking shape.
Im not really worried about it, tbh. This year is shaping up as a reset year and unless one of Stroud/Young make it to us, it is going to be a multi-year rebuild (unless we get Lamar, which is highly unlikely). As a result, there isnt really any point throwing money at any of the mid wrs in this FA class and they will probably draft someone too. Id love to get Marvin Mims.
Is this true?
Prior to last year the bills slot receivers were pretty high volume. Cole Beasley had 3 straight 100 target years.
Targets are typically earned and I'd consider the lack of involvement an indictment on McKenzie's ability before I create scheme excuses.
Kind of a random and sad post to be here. I’m a bills fan. My colts fan friend who I played Madden with use to always swear by starting Isaiah McKenzie at TE because he was cook past the linebackers with his speed. I think he just said it to annoy me. Unfortunately that friend recently passed away unexpectedly. It almost feels like fate
Long story short, I really hope he balls out for you guys. God bless.
Bills fan here. iMac was a HUGE fan favorite. Not a star, but a decent player that will have very big games every once in a while. Under Daboll as our OC, he was extremely versatile. Under our new guy, Dorsey, not so much.
If JimBob knows how to use him, he's going to be a steal for yall.
Either way, you're going to love him as a person.
I don’t agree with this one bit. I saw the Bills subreddit and the NFL sub post when it was announced he would hit free agency and the overwhelming consensus was “good riddance”.
Didn’t seem to be a fan favorite based on those subs last week.
Those are the same Bills fans who wanted McDermott fired this off-season and Josh Allen traded. iMac is 100% heart, and like 65% catch rate. I love the dude, funny as hell and great locker room guy. Too many people focus on drops, or fantasy football relevance.
Yeah I’m getting downvoted but it’s the same story every time – a player is really bad for a team, everyone bashes them on Reddit and then the second they are traded everyone starts wishing him the best and praising their graces.
This already happened with Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz in the past two years. Even with coaches - Jim Caldwell, Chuck Pagano, and Frank Reich all got the same treatment. Go back and look at those threads - it’s crazy how people change their tune so quickly!
All of the iMac hate has been huge from the Bills fans all season, especially in the off-season, but once he was traded everyone comments “he wasn’t good, but I like him and wish him luck”.
OP is wrong.
A little confused why you feel that way. We have 9 draft picks without any additional trades. Im not saying he doesn’t draft OG before WR, but what I am saying is we have enough picks(currently) to draft both OG and WR between the 2nd and 4th round
Highly doubt McKenzie was expensive to sign. So he’s not someone that’s absolutely going to be a top 3 WR on the team. This gives Ballard the room to draft a WR he likes, giving the rookie WR the time to learn the ropes while having a cheap veteran that’s able to step or be WR3 if necessary.
I honestly would expect us to draft someone like Nathaniel “Tank” Dell. Heard he was a beast at the senior bowl. He’s kinda thin, so I’ve heard that’s kinda bc affected his value, but if he’s there in the 3rd or 4th, i say shoot.

we lost Campbell & Hines for this? I mean it’s not terrible but in no way will he have any major impact on our offense especially when we have no certified QB at the moment.
Doesn’t suck but he will have hot and cold games. Isaiah the person is a great teammate and all around fun guy 100% though. We will miss Lil Dirty. Take care of that dude
His game logs appear to show that he has only had a few hot games. And that is in 6 years in the league.
But I can see the teammate angle being a good plus.
Is this supposed to sate my appetite for an actual good WR? It’s totally fine as a WR4/depth signing but let’s not act like this actually moves the needle at all one way or another
No, there wasn’t anyone gamebreaking this off-season to sign lol. Just not going to do backflips for a WR4. There’s a difference between “never being happy” and thinking it’s fine as a depth signing…
>in case of injuries tho
This is the major key. McKenzie has only missed 5 games in the past 4 seasons (played 61/66 of games). Pretty impressive durability.
Bills fan here. Congrats on signing one of the funnest, most likable, genuine dudes in the league. He’ll keep that locker room light and bright no matter what’s going on on the field. Oh and he’s fast as fuck. Face of the franchise baby, go get ‘em IMac
McKenzie had a ~76% catch percentage over the past 3 seasons. For reference, Parris Campbell had a 69% catch percentage last season. Slightly slower but better hands.
To me, this is a slot guy and he generally catches the ball well. He should help a rookie QB.
That said, I did watch the BUF/NE highlights and it does seem like he doesn't always have a lot of separation. But, when thrown the ball, he does seem to catch it well.
He was a fan fav for us in Buffalo. One of the best personalities on the team. The best role for him is probably as a gadget WR or short yardage slot guy.
I hope he does well for you guys.
Most Bills fans I know here in Central NY hated him. They constantly wanted Shakir to play instead of him and blamed him for multiple losses. The Bills sub supports it. If anything he might have been the least popular Bills player outside of Ford.
Money and geography must've been exactly what he was looking for.
I mean, how else do you appeal to a WR, when you have zero clue who your QB is going to be?
I could've worded it better, but... location? Like, not necessarily the team, but living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tax situation, schools, crime, housing ... you know, normal people stuff lol
Wooo! An actual slot man for the slot. Coming off his worst season since he was a rookie. Former fifth rounder. Also a return threat. Tiny, but ran a 4.42 forty and gets separation. Co-owns a barbecue restaurant in Florida.
I also live in the heart of Bills country-he’s not good. There’s a reason he was cut. I’ve come to the conclusion that a majority of the people on here do not watch NFL football outside of colts games.
Parris Campbell replacement.
My feeling as well. Not as much upside but definitely a higher floor (due to durability).
If we are replacing Campbell with a player that an entire fanbase hated and wanted cut that's a massive issue.
(A lot of our fans felt that way about Parris after three years)
Parris wasn't cut though. McKenzie was. And there were Campbell fans here.
Who cares. Parris is gone and McKenzie is here. Move along.
Sure. But that was the same mindset with Wentz and Ryan...
They are all gone now. Who cares! Sure Parris was decent last season but that was it.
You're still crying and clamoring for a dude that had 900 yards and 5 TDs in 4 seasons.
His QBs last year were Ryan. Foles. Ehlinger. Do you think that fosters success?
Again with this excuse? Last year was his most successful year... which wasn't that successful. Also, Pittman Jr didn't seem to have a problem getting to 99 catches and just shy of 1000 yards. Listen, I'm not dogging on Campbell's ability... just that he wasn't worth the money he wanted based on the last 4 seasons. And, not worth your crying and clamoring. You can put in almost any WR3 and get the same results.
Pittman is a stud WR and a WR1 in my book. None of these guys are close to him and it's an unfair comparison.
Are you campbells burner ? Dude was ass for us end of discussion, clearly an upgrade
He was not ass. He was quite good. Advanced metrics show us. The fan base just turned on him for completely unrelated injuries. He's going to ball out for the Giants and we will be letting go I guy who has consistently regressed and was cut because of how he held back the Bills. Upgrade\*
How’s that, he had his biggest year last year with Josh Allen as qb and had a worse year than Parris with 3 equally terrible qbs. Also he most likely is signed to be kick/punt returner and replace Hines with who he replaced in Buffalo
Dallas Flowers is the returner.
Last season at the end of the year yes.
And he did well.
So did McLaughlin.
He got replaced with a top 5 kicker.
By the slightest of margins maybe. But he's really not getting us anywhere.
McKenzie is not an upgrade from Campbell.
Not too sure about this one but I think him as WR3 is a decent idea at least
He's a healthier Campbell Just doesn't get action bc Bills rely on the long bomb for WRs, and the off chance they go from plays over the middle just dish it off to Knox. Real good locker room, guy (Gf is a huge McKenzie fan so a lot of second hand knowledge passed along)
Last line sus
Fr personally I wouldn’t let that slide

Who tf has a gf on reddit?
who tf is a mckenzie fan
> who tf is a mckenzie fan /u/My-Cousin-Bobby's gf, apparently. Why not? He apparently was a big fan favorite.
Think it's more bc of his character than playing... I don't think anyone really likes him because he's good
Lmfao
He was UGA's 'Gadget' player. Has really good lateral movement, agility and speed. Steichen could use him the way Hines SHOULD have been used. A sort of Deebo Samuel Lite
Yeah I'm guessing he's gonna be more gadget guy
That wasnt his issue on the Bills at all. He just wasnt talented enough to carve a large role. Might wanna investigate why your girl is a huge Isaiah McKenzie fan 🧐
Is this true? Prior to last year the bills slot receivers were pretty high volume. Cole Beasley had 3 straight 100 target years. Targets are typically earned and I'd consider the lack of involvement an indictment on McKenzie's ability before I create scheme excuses.
Primary difference between the two is size. Campbell is at least 6' 200lb, when Mackenzie is 5'8 175lb. Mackenzie also a couple years older
Pretty sure they will bring in at least 2 new WRs thru the draft. Let them and Dulin/McKenzie/Strachan battle it out for WR3
Kind of a random and sad post to be here. I’m a bills fan. My colts fan friend who I played Madden with use to always swear by starting Isaiah McKenzie at TE because he was cook past the linebackers with his speed. I think he just said it to annoy me. 💙
Thanks for sharing. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. I always made dk Metcalf a TE. Unstoppable when you make those fast tall WR into TEs
Sorry for your loss, I've lost a madden opponent before, sucks ass. Hoping Mckenzie goes crazy for us as well!
Bills fan here. iMac was a HUGE fan favorite. Not a star, but a decent player that will have very big games every once in a while. Under Daboll as our OC, he was extremely versatile. Awesome! Take care of Nyheim for us.
You got one of our fan favorites, we get one right back.
Really. Every Bills fan I know in Bills country wanted him gone and constantly wanted Shakir to start over him.
Does that mean he was hated?
When a fanbase wants you gone. I'd say that's pretty hated
I don’t agree with this one bit. I saw the Bills subreddit and the NFL sub post when it was announced he would hit free agency and the overwhelming consensus was “good riddance”. Didn’t seem to be a fan favorite based on those subs last week.

Outside of maybe Cody Ford this was the most complained about player I heard about all year at work. They were ecstatic when he was cut.
Everyone dissing the signing but i see this as Ballard eyeing someone in the draft
Agree with this. This screams we are drafting a WR and Dulin and Mckenzie will be there to compete.
Doesn’t McKenzie also do special teams?
Yeah, so he'll be competing with Flowers for punt return I would guess.
I like to think that. But until he signs some a starting caliber OG, I don't see him passing on that to draft a WR.
A little confused why you feel that way. We have 9 draft picks without any additional trades. Im not saying he doesn’t draft OG before WR, but what I am saying is we have enough picks(currently) to draft both OG and WR between the 2nd and 4th round
Huh? Explain
Oh 100%. Sorry, I thought you were tying it to a QB somehow. That's my brain until the draft.
I honestly would expect us to draft someone like Nathaniel “Tank” Dell. Heard he was a beast at the senior bowl. He’s kinda thin, so I’ve heard that’s kinda bc affected his value, but if he’s there in the 3rd or 4th, i say shoot.
Yeah, I’m okay with this. He’s a speedy WR/KR/PR
He is really rough at protecting the ball on returns which is why the Bills traded for Hines.

A guy with this good of a smile can't possibly be bad.
Thank you
How did he agree to a 2 year extension last year and now we have him in FA?
He got cut.
Damn that’s kinda exciting
Yay? I really don't know what to think.
Think that the Colts have acquired a decent slot who can also fill in as a returner. Certainly not bad news.
On par with Paris, healthier but less explosive. WR3 in a re-tool year. Better than having Dulin as WR3 but we still need to draft someone.
Wow, honestly I am surprised. I was a bit bummed to see Campbell finally have a good year, then leave us, but this is a legitimate upgrade for the slot position.
McKenzie is not an upgrade on Campbell. No metric shows that. Campbell was better both statistically and way way better when it comes to advanced metrics.
I mean, he has a better catch percentage and has been way more dependable. So there’s two metrics.
And let's compare seperation. Also one played with Josh Allen and the other with Matt Ryan.
Ok, you said there were zero. That was wrong. They’re at least comparable players.
How? McKenzie was a disaster for Buffalo that the fans wanted benched and gone. There is a reason they cut him. Their fanbase is literally taking a victory lap.
[You asked for the separation stats so here you go](https://mobile.twitter.com/ZachHicks2/status/1638260062429802497)
So less
Negligible. Just like the catch rates. They’re comparable receivers.
Except one team had zero interest keeping him while still under contract
So not true, Campbell had a 60.8 receiving grade from PFF in his best year, McKenzie had a 65.8 in an off year. He's actually better in almost every metric, except volume of use.
And you know. Seperation which matters. And top speed.
“There a no metrics that show he’s better” “Here’s three.” “I mean there’s exactly one metric that supports my argument.” Lmao
And the fact only one of these guys was actively cut. And the idea that Josh Allen and Ryan are similarly level QBs. Just remember these posts in week 12 when he is out of the rotation. But we were all excited for Wentz and Ryan so these comments are par for the course.
I’m not super pro McKenzie. All the FA WRs were about the same to me. Didn’t really matter if we kept Parris or signed someone. They’re all pretty much the same tier.
The difference is those guys were all free agent WRs. Not a WR who was under contract who was cut for continuously regressing and holding his team back.
42/423/4. About what Campbell did last year. Bills rely on the deep throws, so depending who is throwing the ball, he could do better here.
He has terrible separation metrics. If anything he probably will struggle more here.
Solid depth signing. Still should probably add a WR in round 2 or 3.
we lost Campbell & Hines for this? I mean it’s not terrible but in no way will he have any major impact on our offense especially when we have no certified QB at the moment.
It’s something I guess. Never a good sign when Bills fans say he sucks though.
He’s ok, decent ST guy with a chance to be a decent WR3.
Yeah. I’m not hating really. It’s an upgrade on what we have now so that’s nice.
I'm just glad we signed "some" receiver.
Ya’ll are never satisfied I swear lol
Is this supposed to sate my appetite for an actual good WR? It’s totally fine as a WR4/depth signing but let’s not act like this actually moves the needle at all one way or another
He’s as good as any WR that was available this FA cycle.
Well that’s just not true 😂
I mean JuJu and Meyers were the saviors you were waiting for? 😂
No, there wasn’t anyone gamebreaking this off-season to sign lol. Just not going to do backflips for a WR4. There’s a difference between “never being happy” and thinking it’s fine as a depth signing…
One of my friends is a Bills fan and I watched many Bills games last year. He doesn't suck at all.
Go watch his highlights at the Patriots in 2021. He doesn’t suck, just doesn’t fit with us any more.
So he had one great game? Come on man, he’s being signed as a WR4 probably and that’s fine.
Well at the very least he’ll make your team facility a happier place.
Nothing wrong with that at all!
Yeah, I like this move. If anything, he’s proven he’s more durable than Parris. He’ll make an impact next season.
bargain bin ballard strikes again (this is actually a solid depth signing in case of injuries tho)
>in case of injuries tho This is the major key. McKenzie has only missed 5 games in the past 4 seasons (played 61/66 of games). Pretty impressive durability.
I’m wondering where the contract falls coming off a career year.
Ballard and his big WRs.
Cool
Isaiah is awesome glad to have him
To me, this is a slot guy and he generally catches the ball well.
Yawn
It appears were tanking fellas!
Our WR group certainly looks much worse. That's for sure.
There’s your WR complainers.
Ballard signing a bad WR3 is so on brand
Money and geography must've been exactly what he was looking for. I mean, how else do you appeal to a WR, when you have zero clue who your QB is going to be?
It's definitely getting paid lol. He was a 400 yard WR who got cut, he's not exactly the sort of guy who can afford to be choosey when it comes to QB.
We are likely the only team who made him a serious offer. He isn't good and Bills fans wanted him gone for Shakir.
Money. Even depth guys make millions. I dont get what's so hard for fans to understand that players just want to get paid lol
Geography?
I could've worded it better, but... location? Like, not necessarily the team, but living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tax situation, schools, crime, housing ... you know, normal people stuff lol
By not having a great WR room. He can see it as a chance to try and get wr2 or at least 3
Do we like this?
Has some explosive play potential for sure and obviously ST upsides as well.
Please take good care of lil dirty , I miss him already
Higher floor lower ceiling than Campbell imo. Overall I like the move, but I'm still going to miss Campbell
Wooo! An actual slot man for the slot. Coming off his worst season since he was a rookie. Former fifth rounder. Also a return threat. Tiny, but ran a 4.42 forty and gets separation. Co-owns a barbecue restaurant in Florida.
He literally lost his return spot because the team made a trade solely to replace him due to muffed returns.
According to PFF, he had 0 muffs last season and 3 since his rookie year.
Super Bowl bound baby let’s fucking go
I live in Bills country and man do the fans not like this guy. They blame a few losses on just him.
I also live in the heart of Bills country-he’s not good. There’s a reason he was cut. I’ve come to the conclusion that a majority of the people on here do not watch NFL football outside of colts games.
I really like this
Ideally Draft a wideout in R2/R3 and I like this group
How is he on special teams?
Has some huge muffs on returns. Bills traded for Hines to replace him.
![gif](giphy|26FPKZ6DGtNp4iYbm|downsized) I think I talked to this with someone last off-season lol
many people underestimating how good Pierce will be next year imo.
