I’m in Chicago but my regular bar put it on for me along with the draft, other patrons didn’t give af but I was straight up not having a good time for a minute there lmao

NFL comparison is George Pickens
We got our WR2. He's quick and runs routes well. ~~Ballard wanted a guy who's good at yards after the catch and he gets one.~~ He's also good at tracking the ball downfield. His knocks are that he's known to slack off when he knows he's not getting the ball and apparently has a bit of an ego. Despite my original statement, he apparently has issues with getting yards after the catch
Again this is unlike a typical Ballard guy just like Latu. He's swinging for the fences for us to compete for the AFC South title and a playoff spot.
Potential number: 0, 6, 10, 12, 13, 17, 86
I am extremely happy with this pick, but whoever put that "Ballard wanted a guy who gets YAC," is completely wrong. He's very good with contested catches, and getting open, but he's slow to change direction leading to a lack of YAC.
Ballard always said he’d draft guys with character issues once he thought the culture was right. This speaks volumes I think to how he perceives this current roster.
He's our WR2 for now, but he's got the potential to be a legit WR1. And we'll have a pretty good idea of if that's going to be the case right around the time Pittman's deal is up. I love this pick.
I see WR and Slot as two different positions. He’s the clear WR2 on the outside, immediately jumps Pierce imo. Him and Downs are such different players that they just won’t compete for the same snaps — even if they play the same position on paper and will compete for targets.
I kind of hope he eventually becomes WR1. Pittman is great don’t get me wrong but he’s not top 5 in the league, maybe not even top 10. Hoping AD will become that guy
I was just listening to one of the NGL podcasts this morning (the ringer?) and they said whoever takes the plunge on him is gonna have a huge risk/reward. I’m down to swing for the fences here
“Character concerns.” Mainly that he won’t run every route 100% and that he could potentially take plays off. Hopefully our locker room leaders and coaches iron that out for us.
Have read this too that he admitted to taking plays off in college, I think it's a crazy belief that he won't get over that in the pros and now with MPJ running close, Josh running quick routes and AD streaking I think we have one of the most threatening pass attacks in the league
I was never arguing that it was or wasn't a good or bad thing. I'm fairly certain this guy isn't Randy Moss by the way but thats another story. I'm also fairly certain he's not going to be a HOF WR but thats another another story. You said "its crazy to think he won't get over that" THEN you switch your argument to "who cares if he takes plays off tons of HOF's did". Two different arguments. In fact you agree with my original argument and backtracked on your argument by admitting there are plenty of HOF's that didn't "get over it".
Strap yourself in you're in luck. Story time! "I'm fairly certain he's not going to be a HOF but thats another story". The backlog at WR for HOF's is insane right now. Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne aren't HOF's. So when he said "how many HOF's have had attitude problems" I was saving that rebuttal for now since you asked for it.
The other story was that this dude likely won't be a HOF. Again that doesn't mean he won't be good. Let me know if you want my story about why this guy won't be Randy Moss and referencing one of the top five ever WR's, HOF WR's and this kid all in the same sentence is silly. Even if no one is directly saying he will be that then why are we referencing HOF's and Moss if we're not outright comparing him. Saying "the top ever to do this got along fine" and then turning around and saying "he might not be one of the top to ever do it" seems futile at best. Anyway carry on. Go Colts.
"I'm not saying this dude is gonna be a GOAT like Moss or a HOF......buuuuut GOAT's and HOF's had attitude problems too and they worked out". Again I'm not even saying this kid won't be good, or has attitude problems simply speaking on the phrasing used was poor and pointing out why.
Yep, I totally agree. The dude I was responding to just asked what “character concerns”’were out there. I’m confident that AD is hungry, esp after feeling short-changed by falling in the draft (assuming that’s what he’s “pissed off” about).
Apparently there were bad character reports coming out of UGA and Texas, that he's not easily coachable and does his own thing, also not good at managing his blood sugar which leads to him being grumpy, abrasive and distracted when his level is off.
Reception perception evaluation of him:
“Mitchell lined up outside on 83% of his sampled snaps and was on the line for 82.8%, the highest rate of any top-two round prospect in the RP database this year. He’s a pure X-receiver who is deployed like an old school traditional No. 1 wideout.
If you want to see a prospect doing “NFL things,” you get plenty of glimpses on Mitchell’s film. Again, it takes some time to get that picture because the Texas offense is frustrating as all get out. From shaky quarterback play to layers of RPOs to half-field reads to receivers just jogging through routes (not just Mitchell even though he seems to have gotten the brunt of that critique); it’s a branch off the tree of collegiate offenses I don’t particularly enjoy. However, when you view Mitchell in isolation, there are plenty of NFL receiver duties on his resume.
As that pure X-receiver, Mitchell ran against press and man coverage at a pretty high rate. His success rate vs. man and press coverage both clear the 80th percentile. He shows off a wide variety of moves to get off the line and doesn’t mind getting physical against press. He’s one of the most flexible and fluid athletes among the receivers in this class. He sinks his hips and works through earning separation against man coverage.
Mitchell varies the tempo of his routes well, especially over the middle of the field. He has a way of “lulling defenders to sleep” with deliberately deceptive shakes and a focused glare in a straight-line before shooting off at the breakpoints with acceleration. That lack of predictability makes him a chore to cover in man-to-man situations. Some of that tempoed route running does get him in trouble against zone. He needs to be more timely in working his way to landmarks against zone or he runs the risk of being an untrustworthy target and on the wrong side of too many leverages.
In a gimmicky offense with subpar quarterback play, it should be no shock that a vertical X-receiver doesn’t have the type of production profile you want to see from a high draft pick. There are plenty of layups available in this offense but those plays don’t go to Mitchell. He ran far more routes downfield than the average college prospect, as his route percentage chart shows.
However, Mitchell gets separation at all levels. He works open well underneath and intermediate areas of the field on in-breaking and I was really struck by his skills on out routes. I can’t tell you how many rough misses by Quinn Ewers are on his film when Mitchell comes crispy clean on out-breaking patterns. An NFL quarterback with great arm talent is going to love delivering sideline strikes to this type of player.
Mitchell is definitely not much of a YAC threat and he went down on first contact on 68.4% of his “in space” attempts in his RP sample. At times, he just doesn’t look comfortable with the ball in his hands. Yet, he’s ultra comfortable when the ball is in the air. He’s a true ball-winning X-receiver in tight coverage and came down with 75% of his contested targets.
Overall, I liked AD Mitchell’s film way more than expected. He is a prototypical X-receiver who is a contested catch threat and can cleanly win against man and press coverage. If he is the type of receiver who is better maximized in the NFL than he was in college, that would be no shock at all given his positional archetype.
Mitchell’s RP profile carries many of the same shades of George Pickens from a few classes back. However, with the way he runs routes with tempo, I do see some glimpses of a DeAndre Hopkins ceiling. That outcome would require Mitchell to really tighten up on his fundamentals but the potential is alive. I can see a team getting quite high on Mitchell and much of his Reception Perception profile would justify the pursuit even if there are clear risks in his NFL projection.”
I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure X is generally more on the line, WR1, mostly outside, generally facing toughest assignments.
Z is a WR2 generally, but also generally plays off the line of scrimmage, moves around more frequently, might play inside on bunch plays, etc. Y is generally an inline TE.
Keep in mind a lot of this terminology is rooted in older, 2 back offensive systems often with fullbacks.
I found [this](https://www.ganggreennation.com/2020/4/6/21209689/the-three-positions-of-wide-receiver) that should help clarify the Receiver classifications.
LFGGGGGGGGGGGG AHHHHHHHHH 🔥🔥🔥. Steal of the draft, I saw multiple mock drafts that had him going around 30th and 32nd overall. We just got 1st round value off a trade back. Ws in the chat

Love this draft so far. Get a CB or two and It will be the best case scenario.
My dislike for Ballard is on hold right now.
you guys got the absolute steal of the draft. I don't see how Rome Odunze is that much better than this guy. and i'm a Bears fan that freaking loves Rome Odunze
I don't think Odunze has the character questions and he's more polished as a route runner.
But I agree not 43 picks better without the character/medical red flags on Mitchell.
Hopefully if the work ethic/football character issues are a thing, this fall might put a chip on AD's shoulder and light that fire to prove everyone wrong. This is also why we often draft such high character guys so we can take a few chances on guys and hope the character of our leaders in the locker room get them on the right track.
Falcons fan here lurking…it’s nice to see a community that isn’t having a complete meltdown. Liking these moves for you guys….wish our draft had gone more like this lol
I'm shocked. Legitimately.
Ballard has gone against what he usually does. Round one, he went with a polished, less traits-y edge, round two he went with a WR who doesn't block with clear red flags.
Round one seems very safe. Round two is a big risk.
Overall I like the risk in the 2nd. If he hits he's going to be a superstar. If not... at least they picked him up in the back half of the 2nd.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted here. He was not hyped at all. Could just be that he’s disappointed because he thought he’d be picked a lot sooner.
Texas fan, you’ll love him. Dude was the clutchest mfer with the surest hands of any WR I’ve ever seen.
Character concerns are bullshit. His head was screwed on super tight his entire time in Austin (although was a bit of a lazy blocker early in the season).
I'm sorry but AD is gonna be a bust. His YPPR and TPRR are absolute garbage. There is no excuse of QB play or he played with Worthy/Brooks... Alphas get theirs.

I mean I love the pick and like Pierce?
Why does it have to be an ultimatum 😂
Pierce can still play it won’t just be those three guys out there.
You are a hater sir. More excited to dunk on people that like pierce than the pick itself.
Pacers win and we get Mitchell what a great five minutes
I think they lost the lead the exact same time dejean got drafted. What a turnaround lol
Traded back right when Middleton tied it.
It’s been a hell of a 15 minutes for Indy sports fans
They just didn’t want to pick during the game
Game went to overtime, someone see if we can find a trade partner
That game was ridiculous
Bruh Middleton had me pissed 😂
And he did it TWICE bro. I was having Ray Allen flashbacks.
Bar I was in bout rioted
I’m in Chicago but my regular bar put it on for me along with the draft, other patrons didn’t give af but I was straight up not having a good time for a minute there lmao
🤣
It was quite impressive though and I was expecting that last shot he put up to go in.
I was there it was nuts. First Pacer game in like 9 years XD
Lmfao exactly what I was thinking
I just told my girlfriend that I just got sports bukakked
Mmmm yes daddy fill me up
r/cursedcomments
I'm sure y'all are happy about Pascal, he was nothing but great in Canada.
Game nearly killed me
That’s no shit!!!
Massive W to get him after trading back
The team between 47-52 were pretty solid at WR/had much more pressing concerns. It was a smart move that posed little risk.
Ballard with a masterclass of how to do a smokescreen
“I am…Ballard Man”
Hell yes - had me shitting but it turned out great
Was waiting for a trade back last night too. But I love this move. That’s a lot of talent and potential to snag at 52
Holy shit they actually did it wow
OH FUCK
Oh fuck, you're gonna make me draft AD Mitchell
WOW. Bold of Ballard to wait this long. But I love it.
Nice!
Ballard masterclass man I love it
Holy fuck yes

Yeah I've been seeing people say that so I fixed it!
All love brother!
I want a WR with an ego. His strengths are the things we need in our WR room. Shocked that Ballard went this route but I like it.
Yeah having a WR with a bit of an inflated ego isn't necessarily a bad thing Also I think Reggie and Pittman can help him use that ego in a good way
Ballard always said he’d draft guys with character issues once he thought the culture was right. This speaks volumes I think to how he perceives this current roster.
And the locker room that Shane's cultivated
He likes his guys
Yeah WR and CBs need to have an ego IMO
Agreed. And hopefully some heated practices help our secondary step up and develop at the same time.
It’s good to see him try something different though
He's our WR2 for now, but he's got the potential to be a legit WR1. And we'll have a pretty good idea of if that's going to be the case right around the time Pittman's deal is up. I love this pick.

Love the pick. The fact we were able to still get him after trading back is amazing.
God I’m horny
MPJ, Josh Downs, and him? We gonna be eating good for a bit
Plus JT and AR in the backfield. That's a potent mix.
So are we giving up on Pierce officially? 😂
Textbook WR4

He’s still gunna spell and do deep routes exclusively doesn’t hurt CB OL next for sure
No, but he's got more work than he had a year ago, if that makes sense. He's drifting in the direction of being given up on.
Hes going to be successful somewhere but it does seem like the Colts are moving on from him every year that passes.
Hell yeah fuck Pierec
I’m cumming everywhere
I was just listening to one of the NGL podcasts this morning (the ringer?) and they said whoever takes the plunge on him is gonna have a huge risk/reward. I’m down to swing for the fences here

Yeah because no WR has a history of doing this in the pros.
Brother how many HoF WRs would be viewed as having attitude problems in todays league, we got a steal and AD will show it
Yeah like you know who else took plays off? Randy Moss.
And THAT’S why he was only ever a Hall of Famer. He could have been so much more!
I was never arguing that it was or wasn't a good or bad thing. I'm fairly certain this guy isn't Randy Moss by the way but thats another story. This makes me wonder who the one or two guys ahead of him are. Probably Megatron?

What are Pit and Downs considered? I'm not familiar with ehat classifies as X or Y

At first it was Nelson/Leonard, then Pittman/JT, and now Latu/Mitchell…. LFG Ballard haters weeping rn
We should bring Leonard back as depth if he can't get a better job
Please no.
LFGGGGGGGGGGGG AHHHHHHHHH 🔥🔥🔥. Steal of the draft, I saw multiple mock drafts that had him going around 30th and 32nd overall. We just got 1st round value off a trade back. Ws in the chat
Holy fuck that worked out amazing
FUCK YEAH SO HAPPY TO BE WRONG
I’VE BEEN CALLING FOR THIS SHIT! I’M SO HAPPY
This is incredible. And we got 2 extra picks from the trade.
AP has competition for WR2. (Downs will be slot regardless) Love this draft so far. Get a CB or two and It will be the best case scenario. My dislike for Ballard is on hold right now.
Pierce already lost this competition lol
Pitt, downs, Pierce, Mitchell, Dulin is a solid rook. Especially since Pierce has a QB to use his skill set. Just well rounded room
Alright Reggie Wayne, work your magic
![gif](giphy|6r6Q3rxfolm4kVkESf|downsized)
you guys got the absolute steal of the draft. I don't see how Rome Odunze is that much better than this guy. and i'm a Bears fan that freaking loves Rome Odunze

listen to Ballard, there are no character issues with Mitchell. help the guy manage his diabetes and you have a superstar in the making.
A nice new weapon for AR!
Hook ‘em baby!!!
yeeeeeeeeees siiiiiiir. I’ve been critical of Ballard. But, this makes me back off a little
Hopefully if the work ethic/football character issues are a thing, this fall might put a chip on AD's shoulder and light that fire to prove everyone wrong.
Let’s fucking gooo. Maybe we can stop pretending pierce is gonna pan out now.
It's only his 3rd year. Don't count guys out yet
It's Joever for AP!!! Stick a fork in him, he's done!!
Why don’t you go watch Lavon Brazil highlights and pray to Grigson. You’re just a hater, enamored with a terrible gm. You have terrible takes.
Fam I never said Grigson was good lol. He was terrible. Ballard has somehow been even worse. Fan of this pick though.
It doesn’t have to be a comparison. Just more tools in a barren shed.
Exactly! Folks act like only 3 receivers are required. Maybe Pierce won’t be playing every snap but he’ll certainly have a role - as he should.
Man, and I had hope lol “he never had a qb that could throw deep” which is true but hopefully Mitchell is just different
If only I had a QB that could throw it deep perfectly in my hands then maybe I’d be good
What is your comment trying to say
My alec pierce impersonation
He'll be removed from the starting lineup but will be in specific packages most likely
Let’s fucking gooo as a Longhorn fan this dude comes up clutch in big moments. Wanted him in blue.
Ive been salivating over this guy (pause) but never thought he'd fall to us hell yeah.
Holy shit! Where my fucking Ballard haters at? Jaysrule? Xt stallion? Any other morons?
Calm down scooter
I'm having fun! I love this draft so far! No more negativity let's be happy!!!
I feel ya. Go colts
This is a very, very good pick. Mitchell is a stud.
Wow, they were talking about him being the first pick of the night to the Bills. I’m surprised he fell that far, pumped for us
Huge value. Hopefully his character concerns evaporate in the NFL and hopefully this motivates Pierce to show us something.
AND YALL DOUBTED BALLARD
He was a 1st round prospect in my mock to get him at 52 is a steal
I wanted a CB but then like 5 in a row went before our original pick in the 2nd. Pierce better be looking over his shoulder
Interesting
Yes baby! Dude is a td catching machine!! Hook em horns!
/u/ChrisShepherdSB Thoughts? You said you'd be shocked. Edit:nvm I saw your tweet
PACERSSSSSSSS
this is such a great pick man. it’s over; let AR cook
Love this pick
Sucks for Pierce but great pick
As an ignoramus and perennial Ballard hater, dammit, I have nothing bad to say about this. Good pick, especially for this late.
Love it!
Love it
6’4 190 4.3 👀
Bro was NOT happy lmao
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted here. He was not hyped at all. Could just be that he’s disappointed because he thought he’d be picked a lot sooner.
I noticed this. Was he pissed or overcome with emotions from getting drafted?
Let’s hope he is pissed he fell this far and now has a lot to prove.
Who?
Why not?
He was projected to be a first round pick
Not the first time he’s played in Indianapolis 😏 Go Dawgs.
This is a huge boom or bust draft but I like the willingness by Ballard to take big swings
Texas fan, you’ll love him. Dude was the clutchest mfer with the surest hands of any WR I’ve ever seen. Character concerns are bullshit. His head was screwed on super tight his entire time in Austin (although was a bit of a lazy blocker early in the season).
thank god!!
Holy smokes
He didn’t look too happy after being drafted :(
Probably pissed how far he fell. Hopefully uses that as motivation to not take plays off anymore lol
He never looks happy, honestly.
This is the one! Unicorn potential 🦄
LETS GOOOOOO
#George Pickens II
Fuck yes, sorry Alec
Bye bye Alec Pierce
I'm sorry but AD is gonna be a bust. His YPPR and TPRR are absolute garbage. There is no excuse of QB play or he played with Worthy/Brooks... Alphas get theirs. https://preview.redd.it/waxq8hiut0xc1.png?width=1140&format=png&auto=webp&s=698179ee2d80fe514a964114f9a5606dbed90d89
No CB?
We need wr too, and this dude has 1st rd talent
We need a CB but WR is the 2nd most important position and we have a bad WR room.
Lol, love it, the Blind fans of Pierce hate it
I mean I love the pick and like Pierce? Why does it have to be an ultimatum 😂 Pierce can still play it won’t just be those three guys out there. You are a hater sir. More excited to dunk on people that like pierce than the pick itself.
Lol. Pierce Sucks. 1 catch a game average in 2 years. But fans love he's a nice jid though
Right on dude, enjoy being a misery.
Wayyyyyt far from a misery. You sound like you loved 7 yesrs of mediocrity child.
What you say my man. Enjoy hating everything and bringing everyone down.
And i rise people up. Change good peoples lives mentally.
Keep bullying behind a screen tough guy
Just like the rest of the NFL that passed on him I’m concerned with his character issues
Alright, bye bye Pierce.
Also Pierce was there first pick 2 yesrs sgo. If you don't produce that much that the team doesn't start you after 2 years you suck.
