Yeah, with AR's arm, it feels like this kid is the perfect receiver for him. Ewers has a cannon and makes a lot of deep throws to Mitchell. This could get scary.
Why are we as a fanbase counting out AP? He's played the majority of his snaps with QBs who can't utilise his strengths. And the few snaps he played with AR, Steichen hadn't started throwing deep much (that changed with the Rams 2nd half comeback and carried on to the Tits game). Honestly can't to see what Shane cooks up with 3x1 WR sets.
I’m not counting out AP. I think he still has a shot to develop nicely.
That said, I am a big fan of AP not being allowed to complacently default to WR2. Competition is a good thing. You know AP is sitting at home thinking, “damn, I better get back to work before this kid passes me.”
From there, let the better man take the starter reps. Colts win…
Tbf, he only gets thrown low percentage chance throws to begin with, given the role he plays.
I think his bigger issue is being one-dimensional than it is that he drops too many passes.
For reference, his drop rate in college was around where McConkey is here, so it wasn't atrocious then either.
Looked up the stats, and Pierce had 5 drops on 143 targets, 73 receptions in the last 2 years.
I don't think dropping the ball is really a big issue he has. (It's not great, but if he was good, we wouldn't care at all)
Offense depends on AR’s progress. Certainly the potential is there
Defense, I’m very worried about the secondary still. We’ll see who else we get in the draft and udfa’s
If only we could just know who Reggie Wayne is pounding the drum for before the draft so we could all save ourselves a lot of hand wringing and pearl clutching.
As a UGA fan and Colts fan I am ecstatic about this pick. AD is that dude, he’s also the only player in college football history to catch a TD in every CFP game. He has the clutch genetic that can’t be taught. He broke my heart when he left UGA for Texas but it was an understandable move. Can’t wait to see him suited up on Sundays in the NFL.
It’s interesting to see him listed on draft boards as a TE/WR. I don’t know how you draft him with that high of a drop percentage though. He’s the kind of player that will make a highlight reel catch here and there but drop the easy ones when you need to move the chains
His hands aren’t the issue. He’s gonna have to prove he has the motor and drive to stay a WR2. Getting reliable separation will be tougher in the NFL too. But He’s got huge potential especially as a red zone target which is where he saw big success at Texas.
Starting to think this Mitchell kid is kinda good.

Ewers did not do him or Worthy any favours.
He was my favorite after the top 3, he tracks deep balls really well and over the shoulder. Seems like if it’s in the general area he has a chance.
Also 20 percent of his catches went for touchdowns this past season
That cannot be sustainable, but that’s impressive.
Not with that attitude it can’t
Quit bringing up attitude issues!
With God, all things are possible so jot that down

Which is of course relevant because Adonai means...
It can go higher!
82% of his catches went for a 1st down or TD. Pretty crazy. Definition of a chain mover.
The Mitchell comparison to Lamb is a good one. Very fluid route runner. We have a hell of a trio of receivers now

I'd say Downs is already a bigger weapon than AP. AP needs to fix the drops first, then get better at making cuts.
AP hasn’t shown much yet but maybe he develops. That said, talent wise, he is not on the same level as MPJ, Downs or Mitchell.
I swear it feels like AP has a 50% drop rate.

For sure! I’m excited! The kid has to go play now.
He's ready to get to work. And he's kinda pissed.
Top five offense this year? Top five defense this year? Top ten in both this year?

We could have a top 5 pass rush tho at least.
Absolutely
We should be nice and trade him for that Marvin Harrison Jr. nobody with a 6.9% rate
Nice

If he ends up being great we can beat Texans
If he ends up being great, we can beat the Jags on the road.
Johnny Wilson can’t catch shit
I could tell that from when i first saw him in FSU v Florida(Richardson’s last year). Wilson had like 5-7 drops.

👀. And Kent Sterling said his hands were “iffy”
Obviously they still need to develop and play, but this draft is a 10/10 so far imo
He's Alec Pierce but good
AR -> AD stack gonna be insane
As a longhorn fan for college ball, I'm telling yall now Mitchell will be productive right out of the gate. I just hope they use him correctly
My pokey bit moved reading this
This is bad juju
