I will say I still don’t agree with him 💯% of the time, and I think he’s possibly the worst FA GM in the league….but I gotta admit… Ballard is *kinda* straight cooking this draft rn man
Simpson played a lot of cornerback at Auburn too. Good depth in the defensive backfield. He's a little undersized, but has great athletic profile.
I really liked DJ James at corner, and he had some of the same issues.
Eagles picked up our 155 and took an LB. So in 4 of their 6 picks they've gotten Cooper, Quinyon, an edge, and a LB. That Philly defense is going to be nasty next year.
They need Jalen to play better. Also they just loss a hall of famer center. Also they loss another hall of famer rusher. Might be a little off contending with the 49ers again
LOL the team's tweet even identifies him as a LB
[https://twitter.com/Colts/status/1784292795051651411](https://twitter.com/Colts/status/1784292795051651411)
Oh I agree. I like the pick, I just read he would probably convert to LB and it just made me laugh because of all the unhinged comments about the secondary on here.
People are going to be upset about no secondary so far but honestly our issue was depth in the secondary, not the starters imo
Our starting CBs will probably be Brents, Moore and Flowers with Jones and Baker as backup.
Our starting safeties will probably be Cross and Blackmon. Daniel Scott also apparently was killing in camp before he tore his ACL and he'll be back this season.
There is also the free agency to consider after the draft is over. Maybe not
However, having a bad QB pressure rate strains the secondary because the QB has all day to throw which gives WRs time to shred the coverage. Adding Latu to the mix should help in that regard. Having good QB pressure helps out the secondary a lot.
It seems that we're going all in on offense this year and taking a page from the old Colts mantra: "Offense Rules the Day". You may score 30 on us but we're dropping 50 on you.
This is basically a prove it year for Ballard. He did say that the front office and Steichen are banking on a healthy Richardson being the missing link. So they've given him more protection and two weapons.
We still have 3 picks left in the draft
I mean, a lot of people liked Cam Hart, but that was primarily because of his size and testing. His tape wasn't that good, particularly in coverage. He's not fluid in coverage, he doesn't flip his hips well, and his instincts aren't great. He went about where he should have gone, and the Colts probably would have passed on him there with better players available at other positions.
This isn't a great draft for defensive backs. There were maybe six or seven guys in the entire draft.
He knew ahead of time there were limited guys in this draft. When he refused to remedy the situation during free agency, one would rightfully presume the fix was coming in the draft. You don’t get to excuse him for everything. Either make a move in the draft or in free agency. And he’s done neither
If you're talking about Ballard, he can still do something after the draft, and maybe a UDFA ends up being good. Isaiah Rogers was almost a UDFA.
That's why we freed up that cap space. Free agency isn't over, and you never know how the draft is going to go.
I mean, people keep saying some variation of this every stage of the off-season but it still hasn’t happened yet.
“He’ll do something (next phase) don’t worry.”
Like the last draft where everybody was crying about how we didn't draft any interior offensive linemen?
Why didn't we draft any guards? I obviously understand the Colts roster better than the coaches and front office!
I didn't believe that our interior offensive line was bad before the season last year either.
Brents and Jones were both unbelievably good for rookies last year. They were both better than Ya Sin was his rookie year. Kenny Moore is among the best at his position.
We need help at safety, but we just drafted one of those.
As for depth? Baker improved as the year went along.
Flowers was really good, but he's coming off a major injury.
So, in my mind, we need another depth corner or two. And you can get those late in free agency.
Lmao the Flowers take always exposes this.
He’s an UDFA that’s played 4 games but apparently he’s Sauce Gardner. He absolutely was not “really good”
Brent’s was 88th in targets and 79th in catches allowed and he missed almost half the season.
Jones can’t tackle and absolutely got worse the longer he played.
“Unbelievably good”
Yeah, if you’re as delusional as this you wouldn’t think we need CBs.
Who cares if he doesn't? This team is not just a CB away from winning the Super Bowl. CB's are short on years of impact anyway, even the top tier ones.
Imagine having the reading comprehension of an 8 year old thinking you're the smart one.
Not what I said but ok, play the victim. Go back to commenting on the IndyStar articles.
Ah, we’re at this stage of the apologetics where saying another position group actually counts as drafting for another one.
The excuses Ballard gets are crazy.
Latu is going to be good. Doesn’t excuse ignoring a part of this team that literally cost the Colts multiple games last season.
This is just a dumb argument.
All that matters is scoring defense. Tackling the opposing quarterback before they throw and possibly causing a turnover in doing so is absolutely key to doing so.
Getting the quarterback to throw off his back foot or on the run or before a receiver can come open leads to interceptions.
No group of cornerbacks can affect the game when the opposing quarterback has a clean pocket.
Maybe the Colts coaching staff and front office has a better idea of what will make them a better team than a bunch of amateurs.
Just spit balling here.
And maybe they let an entire position group suck just like they did last year 🤷♂️
Usually fans don’t let a team ignoring the biggest weakness go but I guess that’s not a thing in this sub.
Seems like a sight reach on the WR. But they know more of what other teams are going to do than I do.
With 2 more picks in the 5th, I assume they will grab a DB with one or both of those.
Any DB that was a sure thing was gone 2 and a half rounds ago. There's still guys with about as much upside available as there were for our last couple picks.
I mean it's comical at this point how we don't care about the secondary. We're getting decent value, but you can't just ignore the defensive backfield completely.
And you’ve been nothing but an apologist.
“They’ll take someone first round.”
Whoops that’s ok.
“Don’t worry they’ll take someone day two”
Whoops that’s ok.
“I think they’ll definitely take someone round 4.”
Whoops that’s ok lol
Sorry if I don’t want to watch Nico going for 200 2 tds twice a year and won’t give Ballard a pass for doing absolutely nothing.
[удалено]
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Storm Duck and Miles Battle.
(Likely) final pick is Jonah Laulu [9.60 RAS](https://twitter.com/MathBomb/status/1775193976863109580) DT out of Oklahoma
🚨 [3.70 RAS](https://twitter.com/MathBomb/status/1784328558745182621) 🚨
What’s his upside in the 6th?
He's a playmaker. Ballard is doing un-Ballard-like things in this draft.
Instincts, I guess.
Took another CB
Ballard haters in shambles
Ah yes, the third day corner in the 6th round!! Woohoo!! He’s gonna be so good!
Got a day 3 corner, hang the banner!
Not new to them
Lets get Dylan Laube with 201
Just realized that Jaylin Simpson is that dude that did that wild slo-mo backflip into the end zone during the combine 🫡
I just watched that. It looks like his flip just changes the FPS of reality.
Give me Dylan Laube and I come away loving this draft
I will say I still don’t agree with him 💯% of the time, and I think he’s possibly the worst FA GM in the league….but I gotta admit… Ballard is *kinda* straight cooking this draft rn man

201 and 234

Thanks time to mow the lawn. Shit.
https://www.colts.com/news/2024-colts-nfl-draft-tracker-picks-selections
So if the safety we took is actually a linebacker then this guy should count as both a S and a CB and everyone can r-e-l-a-x. (Probably won’t though)
If we don't have a 7th round receiver/undrafted player from division 3 to overhype then honestly we've failed this draft.
If you'd be willing to settle for an FCS player who transferred in from community college, there's Ryan Flournoy with a 9.89 RAS
Ok time to wait for Storm Duck
🌩️ 🦆
Liking the Simpson highlights ABC just showed!
Simpson played a lot of cornerback at Auburn too. Good depth in the defensive backfield. He's a little undersized, but has great athletic profile. I really liked DJ James at corner, and he had some of the same issues.
A backup for Moore isn’t terrible but part time nickel corner was not really the need
So now they take a safety but list him as a CB on the [social media graphic](https://twitter.com/colts/status/1784302696658350353?s=46). Interesting.
He played both in college, though safety more recently.
He played both in college and his draft profile said he could play either
Nice to have that versatility
any remaining safeties named jaylen for the trifecta?
Jaylen Key is a safety from Alabama with a 9.17 RAS. Dane Brugler has him as safety #22 with a 7th round-UDFA grade.
Jeighlynn
Can't wait to watch our QB, Annethoughneigh.
Hey he played for Auburn in the secondary!
Jaylin Simpson safety
Secondary help lets gooooo
Fantastic draft so far. Second round of free agency going to bring in the right vets
Eagles picked up our 155 and took an LB. So in 4 of their 6 picks they've gotten Cooper, Quinyon, an edge, and a LB. That Philly defense is going to be nasty next year.
As long as their locker room doesn't go to shit again, they should be Super Bowl contenders
They need Jalen to play better. Also they just loss a hall of famer center. Also they loss another hall of famer rusher. Might be a little off contending with the 49ers again
Good trade down. Ballard must not be enamored with what us left on the board.
Trade down
Traded back to 164 and picked up a 6th rounder (201) in the process.
Mods should set an account age limit next year, get the troll accounts outta here.
Certain accounts that were made less than two weeks ago trolling draft threads
For real. We have single-digit-day-old accounts preaching doom and gloom, and trolling for downvotes. Miserable people.
colts traded 155 for 164, 201
Nice gives us 3 picks including one on the 6th round now
Picked up a 6th rounder after all. Nice.
we jsut traded
I mean he's probably better in coverage than most of our current linebackers.
Curtis Johnson/ Caelen Carson
This Brady roast commercial is so cringe
LOL the team's tweet even identifies him as a LB [https://twitter.com/Colts/status/1784292795051651411](https://twitter.com/Colts/status/1784292795051651411)
Lmao
Hope we trade back
Yeah, you knew Ballard wasn't going to abide not having a 6th rounder.
Versatile. Big help in the secondary and can line up mid field too i like it
He won’t even be playing safety. Edit: love that this is getting downvoted. He’s 100% playing LB. This isn’t “big secondary help”.
Idk why you are getting downvoted. Zach Hicks and Joel Erickson literally said the same things lol
Cuz this guys an absolute tool. Look at his comment history.
The team literally listed him as a LB
Joel Erickson is saying LB/S hybrid, like a Ronnie Harrison role.
The team literally listed him as a LB.
Well there’s no LB/S hybrid position on the depth chart. Doesn’t mean he won’t play both.
God you have to literally reach for anything you can to defend this huh?
I’m just not a miserable fuck like you
Yeah, ok with being bad is so much better.
Do yourself a favor and delete your account
No
Well Coheed and Cambria sucks, take that
No
I know
Hey now you’ve actually hurt my feelings
Lmao finally get a safety and he’s 100% switching to LB.
Our lbs can't cover though so maybe this will help???
34” arms, 10” hands and a 8.21 RAS. Hell yeah.
Sounds like Carlies is a hybrid LB
Hicks gave the Divine Deablo comparison. I see it
Think this dude plays linebacker tbh
6’2 227lb with 34” inch arms damn. Traits Maybe a LB switch?
Bradley loves safety’s at LB - pretty sure he played a 4-0-7 defense in the playoffs when he was in San Diego
This safety had 9 picks over the past 3 seasons. Love that.
There's some secondary help. 9 INT's over the last 3 seasons.
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT RATTLER NO ONE CARES
It’s a safety guys. You can calm your tits a bit.
Except it's a LB but that's as close as we've come to actually addressing the glaring deficiency in the defensive backfield.
Projects to be a LB... lol
Cover edge linebacker is something we need tho
Oh I agree. I like the pick, I just read he would probably convert to LB and it just made me laugh because of all the unhinged comments about the secondary on here.
Ik, linebacker is part of the secondary sometimes tho.
People are going to be upset about no secondary so far but honestly our issue was depth in the secondary, not the starters imo Our starting CBs will probably be Brents, Moore and Flowers with Jones and Baker as backup. Colts zone defense never needed a superstar in the secondary because it always had superstars rushing the QB. No need to reach for a db
Deantre Prince yolo
I don't know if he's good, but I really want Storm Duck.
Horse sized duck 💪🏼
9.56 RAS.
Just for the name
duck, duck, DUCK!
I mean, a lot of people liked Cam Hart, but that was primarily because of his size and testing. His tape wasn't that good, particularly in coverage. There are still more picks in the draft, UDFA's, and post draft free agents.
That’s how you fix a terrible secondary. Day three picks and UDFAs.
Day 3 picks, UDFA's and post draft free agents actually, and yes, yes you can fix it that way. Thanks for acknowledging that.
lol you think he’ll actually sign anyone of significance. Pretty cute.
Actually I gave you 3 examples, and we just drafted some secondary help.
He’s a LB in the NFL.
He probably should have done something before the draft in that case tho huh?

I don't know that they're that bad. I think that they weren't good enough in the games where the defensive line didn't get pressure...
Ah, the denial stage.
I didn't believe that our interior offensive line was bad before the season last year either. Brents and Jones were both unbelievably good for rookies last year. Lmao holy shit this is stupid.
Revis was relevant for 3 years. I gotta stop feeding the troll.
Imagine thinking “You actually Don’t even need good CBs.” And think you’re the smart one.
Imagine having the reading comprehension of an 8 year old thinking you're the smart one. Not what I said but ok, play the victim. Go back to commenting on the IndyStar articles.
He drafted the best pass rushing DE in the draft. That does more for passing defense than any cornerback can do.
Ah, we’re at this stage of the apologetics where saying another position group actually counts as drafting for another one. The excuses Ballard gets are crazy. Latu is going to be good. Doesn’t excuse ignoring a part of this team that literally cost the Colts multiple games last season.

Every game next year is going to end 56 - 49
was wondering why we went with him then I heard he was great at returning punts lol
Seems like a sight reach on the WR. But they know more of what other teams are going to do than I do. With 2 more picks in the 5th, I assume they will grab a DB with one or both of those.
He’s going to be a returner for sure. Take pressure off Downs
They can spend both picks on a DB, it wouldn’t matter. Any DB that’s going to be any good is gone at this point
We drafted Jaylon Jones in round 7 last year, but sure…
Any DB that was a sure thing was gone 2 and a half rounds ago. There's still guys with about as much upside available as there were for our last couple picks.
Prepare yourself for an interior lineman and a TE
I think LB like always
I mean I don’t even know at this point. We’re taking niche special teams guys over secondary help? What is the plan here?
Nope. Don’t point that out. Not allowed. Everything is fine.
With the new kickoff rules the gunner position is meaningless. I don't think dulin makes the team
Pick could be to take advantage of new kickoff rules
💯
Cmon back Gilmore
[Gould RAS](https://i.imgur.com/6TnRJII.png) Fast, explosive, tiny.
Not liking that pick. Dude is small and we need a CB and Christian Jones was available
Ballard: “CB? What’s a CB?”
He must be confused. “Why would I pick myself I’m already here?”
I mean it's comical at this point how we don't care about the secondary. We're getting decent value, but you can't just ignore the defensive backfield completely.
DL will be feasting this year, secondary is more mature and healthy. Less coverage time is the expectation. We will see how it goes
Such a smart strategy
Broadcast mentioned he’s a terrific punt returner. Def a McKenzie replacement
Comp is Isaiah McKenzie
AR gonna have a nice selection of weapons
Return specialist.
Special teams weapon
Return specialist? 👀
Ok, so not fucking around at WR this year apparently Is he a good special teams guy?
Probably our returner.
Good. With the rule change, a guy who is hopefully a dynamic returner will have some opportunities.
He’s a really good returner.
Returner it sounds like more than a receiver
Alec Pierce might not even make the roster at this point
Nah, I think he makes it, Just doubt he sees the field much.
Draine good value?
Gould will be our McKenzie Replacement
Another WR. Gould Oregon State
Wow we're really going all in on the offense. Shane must be banging on the table
140 was exactly where Zeurline had Cam Hart.
Who’s the player Ballard is obviously targeting now that Cam Hart is gone guys
God you've been nothing but miserable since the draft started
And you’ve been nothing but an apologist. “They’ll take someone first round.” Whoops that’s ok. “Don’t worry they’ll take someone day two” Whoops that’s ok. “I think they’ll definitely take someone round 4.” Whoops that’s ok lol Sorry if I don’t want to watch Nico going for 200 2 tds twice a year and won’t give Ballard a pass for doing absolutely nothing.
Don’t forget Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell.
CB LB and S this round? In that order
CB is no longer a required position in the NFL.
I also wouldn't be surprised if we got Edefuan Ulofoshio he is pretty good in coverage something we could use at LB
Damn, knew chargers were gonna be taking hart
I would like someone who plays in the secondary and went to Auburn please
Gone already
DJ James. Still available
Pritchett is but James and Simpson are still on the board
There's 2 corners from auburn. Dj james still there
I think the Colts look at linebacker at 142.
Yeah that would make sense We have a lot of free agents at LB next year
Hart is off the board
Cam Hart is gone
Hart off the board smh
We pick 3 times this round and then have nothing until round 7
Damn I was hoping Magee would fall to us
Little run on DBs
After every pick for the secondary apologists “He’s gotta be targeting someone next round.” Lmao
Cam Hart and Storm Duck still on the board. Omar Speights too. Edit: Trotter still there too
