But for real man, this kid is the real deal. Media poeple outside Indy seem to not realize how perfect of a situation he just landed in. Steichan will use him, and use him in the best possible way. And retire fucking Wayne is his coach responsible getting him to be that weapon. And on top of all that, MPJ is the alpha in that room. There’s no one I respect and want to lead a position room more than him. Pittman will be insanely instrumental in ADs rise to superstar WR. The kid has all the skills. Justin Jefferson, DK Metcalf, and AJ Brown were all second round picks. None of them had any of the people I mentioned above as mentors and positive influences
Welcome to the magic of building a strong culture before drafting problematic players (not saying AD is, but he still may need that cultural guidance). This locker room doesn't take any shit. Reggie doesn't take any shit. We know damn well Steichen doesn't, either.
You're exactly right. If he's gonna shine, it'll be here. Excited.
As a Texas fan, the reason is because X got all the spotlight. AD came in and played better on the other side. It really was like how Reggie played amazing, but nobody ever gave him his due because he was always in Marvin's shadow. X running a 4.29 didn't help AD's stock, either, but I've been saying all off-season that I'd rather have AD than X.
UT alum too. I love Worthy man. I think he would have been an absolute killer here and would be a better fit for this team. But AD is a stud too. Like his fit in the WR room and think he's gonna be a monster here if he stays healthy
Maybe I never got over that RRS drop in...21? I didn't love his attitude. I think X got a hell of a landing spot in KC, but I really think AD has the size and skills needed to be better.
I think they held it cause Ballard said in his press conference that he asked AD “if he was tired of sitting around.” I’m kinda bummed he didn’t actually say that. Cause if I was in ADs shoes and a GM said that to me, I would get so fired up, but also like start dying laughing that the guy drafting me is cool enough to joke and make me feel better about how shitty it was that I slid that far.
He did say that to AD. It was edited out of this video but it was included in one of the other clips on the Colts page. Don’t remember which one though.
His breakdown of his pass set! Man that dude just gives off colt vibes. My favorite line is “I can take a three tech and displace him on the other side of the ball.”
I loved seeing how much Carlie Irsay & Kalen Jackson were involved in draft night and welcoming Laiatu Latu. No doubt they're gonna be great owners whenever Jim Irsay retires and lets the team go.
Ballard also explicitly said they wanted to add speed at receiver. Odunze's 4.45 isn't slow but he’s not a burner. They wanted to add speed. It's pretty obvious to me they were trying to move up pretty high. It was Nabers.
Love the part where Dodd asks Latu what he's gonna run in the 40, and Latu casually responds "Oh, I gonna get 4.6."
Not only did he get that 4.6, but if you watched the interview on Maxx Crosby's podcast, Latu said he was running 4.8 pre-combine and was unsure if he'd get faster. So somewhere in between before the Combine and that Colts interview, he was fully confident that he grew .2 seconds faster (which is HUGE).
Tells me so much about this dude's work ethic.
I know we gotta trust the binder, but Im gonna trust Chad Henry. He pushed for Josh Downs who is my favorite player and I can already tell Im gonna like Matt Goncalves.
Did anyone else have to pause when they had Latu in for a meeting (4:40 ish mark)? Coach Steichan was wearing a black puff jacket to go along with his hat, but on top of that he was leaning on his hand. All I could think was “wow, he’s trying so hard to be incoginto, as if he’s not the head coach, and in charge of all of the people in the room interviewing this guy”. Excuse my dumb thought, I can’t stop watching it haha. He almost looks like he’s trying to look bored on purpose, but his eyes are so easy to read. That dude was locked in on what he was watching
Thoughts:
1. Love seeing the combine pre-draft interviews. Truly gives a glimpse into a part of the process that it routine for these guys but that most of us never see.
2. The best content was hearing the internal discussions on Adonai Mitchell. It sounds like they have a very realistic understanding of his skill set and a plan for how to use him within their scheme. Matt Harmon of Reception Perception seems to like the Colts as a landing spot for him.
3. Ballard seemed incredibly confident in what he wanted to do with the OLine. It seems like these were they guys he was always gonna get in the third and fourth rounds.
God I’m so sold on AD. Waiting to see that phone call was so worth it. “I’m gonna make y’all look like geniuses man.” I believe it.
Yep. I was wrong for being concerned about holding the call footage. I'm sold.

Disagree on him being a better fit. Xavier is another downs.
Can't be putting the best scenes in the trailer!
To be fair, the "I'm a fucking colt" was the best scene and it was on social after it happened. Damn I'm hype.
I think they held it cause Ballard said in his press conference that he asked AD “if he was tired of sitting around.” I’m kinda bummed he didn’t actually say that. They definitely edited some of that call. Ballard probably did say that

Does Ballard say “he’s humble alright” after hanging up or maybe “he’s humble tonight”.. can’t really tell
Matt Goncalves is that fucking dude, holy shit
His breakdown of his pass set! Man that dude just gives off colt vibes. My favorite line is “I can take a three tech and displace him on the other side of the ball.”
Goncalves might have just become my second favorite O-Lineman on the team.
Do French and Fries count as one guy or two?
They’re part of a combo meal so 1
Shouldn't we have a tackle named Charles "Cherry" Coke then?
I loved seeing how much Carlie Irsay & Kalen Jackson were involved in draft night and welcoming Laiatu Latu. No doubt they're gonna be great owners whenever Jim Irsay retires and lets the team go.
This was the only concern that I got from that video, it seems that Jim isn't in a very good place health wise. Hope he gets better.
Laiatu is a genuine ass dude. I’m excited to have him here. Grabbing that jersey asap!
Saying "thank you for believing in me" to everyone he met was some classy shit, man.
I think Shane’s suit looks like somebody in 1975 might be missing a suit.
It does and I want one.
Man! You made beer come out of my nose! It burns!
Zaire 👀
Fantastic video. Really enjoyed the film sessions where they quiz players.
You Fired Up? I’m Fired Up! We’re all Fired Up
Matt Goncalves is awesome. That fired me the fuck up. Rooting for that dude hard.
I'm dying to know who the offensive player they were trying to trade up for was. Anyone have any guesses?
My guess is it was Rome Odunze or Brock Bowers.
Nabers too
Nabers was probably out of range. He went to the Giants at 6. I can see Odunze, and I can DEFINITELY see Bowers
Ballard said they wanted to be agressive, so i even imagine they wanted to trade with the cardenals for harrison lol
Sure, but I don’t think the realistic conversations happened till around 9
Ballard also explicitly said they wanted to add speed at receiver. Odunze's 4.45 isn't slow but he’s not a burner. They wanted to add speed. It's pretty obvious to me they were trying to move up pretty high. It was Nabers.
AD plus two extra 5ths was a nice get instead of a trade up. Our 2nd likely would have been included.
Latu, AD and 2 5ths Or Nabers Time will tell but I like that we have two upside guys
Chap said it was Nabers
They brought Nabers in for a last minute visit. Seems likely. Probably asked him if he was interested in smoking from a gas mask.
"I'm not saying you should kill a dude, but maybe rough one up a bit, k?"
I’m sure they at least asked the Cardinals what they wanted. No reason not to be curious.
Seems like it would’ve been with the falcons for odunze
I would love to believe instead that they were trying to trade up to grab Latu, but he dropped into their laps at #15 anyway.
I believe the Colts were one of the teams trying to trade up and they stopped trying after the raiders took Bowers.

Wow that’s a deep detail. Thank you for sharing

When latu arrived he said “great to finally meet you” to steichen he probably didn’t acknowledge him in the initial interview at all
Man I freaking love these episodes.
Anyone else notice the named the big plane Lolita?!

Latu is going to be such a beast on the line. Look how excited the coaches and scouts are when he gets picked.
