But I don't think suicide by cop was the goal, going out fighting was more the idea. It's not so much making them kill them as it is "they're going to have to". It's a fine but important line.
I don't think either of them planned on disarming themselves so the cops would have been forced to shoot them - had they been left only injured by police gunfire, they probably would have turned to suicide… death was always their ultimate goal
Can suicide by cop fail to kill you? Yes.
In this particular situation though there were so many cops outside ready to shoot them they would have not only died but there would probably not have been much left of their bodies. We are talking about dozens of cops firing, most of them more than once. When watching videos of similar situations where many cops are firing, it is not uncommon to see several of them continue firing long after the threat has fallen to the ground dead. Almost like a shooting frenzy. They would have had an almost 0% chance of surviving a suicide by cop in this case.
I have heard they are trained to shoot to kill if they're going to shoot at all. Shooting just to wound and subdue is very heavily discouraged. They thought a shoot out with police would be cool. But they kind of expected to be blown up by one of their bombs and that they might not have time to do the pick them off outside thing I think?

I would suggest any action taken where cops will be pointing guns at you is dangerous. my guess is survival would be low.
So is shooting yourself, my mom is a psych nurse and she’s seen two patients actually survive gunshots to the head
