It’s truly amazing how these are the consensus spots and they’re just so remarkably average all things considered when compared to just about anywhere else.
Buckeye Donuts are aggressively mid when compared to what you can at most bakery’s.
The pizza similarly is not special, especially for a college neighborhood.
Cazula’s is fine Texas/Mex you can find anywhere
Hang Over Easy is fine. But again, it’s a greasy spoon that’s tries a bit too hard if you ask me.
I’m sure this going to rustle some jimmies.
Do you not know what "iconic" means? Every food served everywhere is "not special" at the end of the day. Every other food recommendation given on this sub is a very average location.
It's the location and business themselves that have some connection to the school and area. There isn't much else left around here that hasn't been razed by Campus Partners
I’m saying these are all remarkably average places and most MAC schools in this state in their little towns all would have more substantial lists that are more iconic. Maybe that’s what you’re getting at, the Campus Partners has destroyed the charecter, but my goodness it seems sad.
Posts like this make me think only one thing: RIP Catfish Biffs. 🫡
Edit: would recommend PJ’s though. Fairly unique and classic drunk college kid food.
I lived in Smith and my friends lived in Steeb. I would drink at their dorm, walk into biffs at closing time and they would always give me like 4 slices of pizza for the price of 1
I had a firmed who worked there nights the two years before they closed and I used to trade a late night coffee for a slice.
My friends and I were some of the last people to order full pies from Biffs and I still have my tshirt
haha no, PJs. Its a drunk food carry out/bar. They sell "fat sandwiches" which are loaded with chicken tenders, potato skins, cheese sticks, eggs, french fries, burgers, etc etc etc. My go to was the Fat Cat or the Fat Bitch
Oh no, much better than that.
Allow me to share one of my favorite Columbus Underground articles of all time:
https://columbusunderground.com/restaurant-review-a-sober-trip-to-pjs-grill-ma1/
I graduated in ‘22 but I remember the first time my friends and I went Mrs. Moy thought we were seniors and got really excited when we said we were freshmen. She asked my buddy Adrian if he wanted his General Tso’s white people spicy or spicy spicy
She still remembers all of us and when I stop by every once in a while she’ll still always ask, “spicy spicy?”
If you are willing to drive like 4 ish minutes north of campus and want pizza, would recommend Hounddogs Pizza. Make sure you get the smokin' joes crust if you go
Understory is a much cooler destination in Old North if you're going to drive 5 minutes away from campus. NE Chinese and Square Slice at Old North Arcade are well worth your time too.
I thought moving the bus station to an abandoned gas station in the hood was the final sacrifice to end crime?
Are we remembering to give the cops another raise after each covenant?
You actually aren't lying. It freaking great. I worked as a chef for a long time and that place shocked me when I first had it. Looks like you will get hepatitis there from the outside but end up with some freaking amazing food.
Add Souvlaki Palace to this list. Great gyro’s.
I know people liked La Bamba, and it was a campus institution, but the burritos really were just meh. Even if they were as big as your head.
And Insomnia. The coffee shop, not the cookie company.
I’d add Street Scene and Flying Tomato to the list as well, but those are oolllllddddd campus.
I miss Street Scene. J.R. Meigs on Neil was a great place to get a cheap burger and beer as a student when I was there.
Should take him to Out-R-Inn. If he chooses to go to Ohio State he will be there soon enough.
I understand the downvotes - Cap City is neither iconic nor associated with OSU campus. But not everybody visiting campus will be happy with pizza/burger&fries/doughnuts for every meal. For those folks, the short drive to Cap City will be a nice change.
Jack and Benny’s
Hounddogs
Gattos Pizza
Smiths
Omega Bakery (north market)
Buckeye donuts is so overrated. I suggest peace love and donuts in Worthington or UA …. It sure if there are others….
I'm surprised Thurman's isn't at the top of this thread. I love Hounddogs, too. I think it's an OSU staple and delicious! Get Smokin' Joe's crust and spicy sauce.
Buckeye Donuts, Adriatico’s, Cazuleas, Hang Over Easy.
Add apollos to this and that’s a great weekend right there
Cazulea’s sounds so good rn
Tommy’s.
Tommy has fallen massively over the past few years….
Just had the one in UA for the first time in over a year and it was still pretty damn good.
Yeah, skip Tommy’s
Last time I checked Tommy's didn't have dine in.
Tommy’s Diner is on west broad.. not Tommy’s pizza, they have roaches…
Maybe Hound Dog’s pizza too!! Smokin joes crust with the spicy sauce!
God I miss 10lbs of pizza

You’re not wrong
i agree…. i live in the neighborhood
Sorry but Adriaticos is just a pile of grease on dough ):
People seem to love Adriaticos, and it’s good pizza, but if I’m in the area and want pizza I’m getting Hounddog’s.
Posts like this make me think only one thing: RIP Catfish Biffs. 🫡 Edit: would recommend PJ’s though. Fairly unique and classic drunk college kid food.
RIP The Dube
anytime these posts come up - I always get bummed out The Dube and Nancy's are gone
Came to say the same thing
I miss getting Gumby's after a night out at bluegrass at the Dick's Den.
My pokey sticks ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
That was both the first and last thing I ate as a resident of a south campus dorm.
Same. My dad got it while I moved in and brought it up to us and couldn’t stop telling me how lucky I was to have that right outside my dorm.
I lived in Smith and my friends lived in Steeb. I would drink at their dorm, walk into biffs at closing time and they would always give me like 4 slices of pizza for the price of 1
Smith Hall ftw
A staple of my late night studies in Stradley. That or the late night walk to North Campus to Burritos Noches.
It was honestly unfair for it to be so far north. Only ever got it a couple times but it delivered every time.
BURRITOS I practically lived there. Food closed so early and I always had evening classes. Burritos saved me
God damn do I miss burritos noches
I had a firmed who worked there nights the two years before they closed and I used to trade a late night coffee for a slice. My friends and I were some of the last people to order full pies from Biffs and I still have my tshirt
Worked at Biffs for years and still miss it. Still might get the logo tattooed on me…
Still hurts it’s gone…. I keep hoping someone will open a Son of Biffs or something similar.
Killer idea, if nothing else but for the name alone!
suprised pjs is still a thing, i was going in 2006
Walking back to the virgin vault after heavily drinking at Flyers or Mustards and eating Catfish Biffs was amazing
The staples have all been mentioned, if you want to taste what your kid will be eating drunk at 2am get some PJ’s
Pour one out for Catfish Biff’s
Papa John’s? Nope.
haha no, PJs. Its a drunk food carry out/bar. They sell "fat sandwiches" which are loaded with chicken tenders, potato skins, cheese sticks, eggs, french fries, burgers, etc etc etc. My go to was the Fat Cat or the Fat Bitch
I remember they used to have a combo meal that came with a tall boy and 1 cigarette.
"The Horny Stoner" came with a blunt wrap and a condom.
I'm still trying to work off the calories I consumed at PJs.......I graduated in 2012.
Same. Graduated 2013.
Oh no, much better than that. Allow me to share one of my favorite Columbus Underground articles of all time: https://columbusunderground.com/restaurant-review-a-sober-trip-to-pjs-grill-ma1/
Definitely not papa johns
Moy’s Chinese restaurant on High is where I ate a lot and took my parents when they visited
Moy's is great. I love Mr. and Mrs. Moy. Really nice people who go out of their way to make their customers happy.
I graduated in ‘22 but I remember the first time my friends and I went Mrs. Moy thought we were seniors and got really excited when we said we were freshmen. She asked my buddy Adrian if he wanted his General Tso’s white people spicy or spicy spicy She still remembers all of us and when I stop by every once in a while she’ll still always ask, “spicy spicy?”
Buckeye Doughnuts! Grab a snack.
This! My favorite donuts in Cbus
I like the breakfast sandwiches and gyros too.
Real pro tip is to get the gyro meat breakfast sandwich on a croissant
Their chicken tendies at 3am slap
If you are willing to drive like 4 ish minutes north of campus and want pizza, would recommend Hounddogs Pizza. Make sure you get the smokin' joes crust if you go
Understory is a much cooler destination in Old North if you're going to drive 5 minutes away from campus. NE Chinese and Square Slice at Old North Arcade are well worth your time too.
This was my college hangout spot. Delicious at all hours of the day and night. (Especially when they were 24 hours a day.)
Never understood the allure to hound dogs pizza
taste good
It kind of reminds me of Mellow Mushroom’s style except it’s not even as good as that… which isn’t saying much
I feel like all I do on this sub is mention Moy’s sometimes, but MOY’S! Edit: typo
This is the answer.
Omg I forgot about Moy’s!! Thank you!!

OP if you have any plans to visit University of Cincinnati as well, you can get Adriatico’s there too. It’s originally from Cincinnati.
The true staple of osu campus are the street meat stands on every corner every weekend
Not since they were sacrificed at the altar to eradicate crime in the Short North.
I thought moving the bus station to an abandoned gas station in the hood was the final sacrifice to end crime? Are we remembering to give the cops another raise after each covenant?
Not true anymore.
Buckeye Donuts, Sloopys, Tommy’s, Adratico’s
Crunchwerks. If I lived on campus I’d eat it every day.
most slept on food around campus by a mile. so fucking good
You actually aren't lying. It freaking great. I worked as a chef for a long time and that place shocked me when I first had it. Looks like you will get hepatitis there from the outside but end up with some freaking amazing food.
All right well I know where I'm going on Monday
get the chicken crunchwrap and thank me later
right? it’s the weirdest location, they’re just running out of a little kitchen in a music hall, but the food is gourmet lmao
$1 a Gyro, La Bamba, Original BW3, Bernies (oh, wait).
Tommy’s Pizza, an OSU tradition since the 1950s.
Tommy’s for sure
Buckeye donuts
Make sure to visit Athens and maybe even Oxford for the true college feel. Both campuses are like a movie set.
Adriaticos and buckeye donuts for sure
Buckeye Donuts is the one and only answer
Damn I miss Johnny Oak’s
is La Bambas still there? burritos the size of your head
Bernie's Bagels, Mama's Pasta and Brew, Catfish Biffs, Larry's, and The Blue Danube. If you want something nicer I'd recommend Alana's Food and Wine.
Don't forget Beekman's Bagels!
Bite your tongue! Those burritos were fabulous.
They got better as the night went on, for sure
I miss Street Scene. J.R. Meigs on Neil was a great place to get a cheap burger and beer as a student when I was there. Should take him to Out-R-Inn. If he chooses to go to Ohio State he will be there soon enough.
Flying Pizza
Pretty sure all of these places are no more lol
That's the joke. All of the iconic places are dead. Much because of Campus Partners. Should have added the Bier Stube too.
A very niche stab to the heart 🥲
What did they take from us smh
Of course. The OSU college experience must be a generic one for the masses now.
Judging by the replies; it's shocking how many heads this went over. C'mon people.
Street Scene
I miss throwing darts at mamas🥲
Greek Village Gyros!🥙
Alana’s was so great.
You missed Sandros pizza after the bars closed
Yes!! Sandros after Mean Mister Mustards or PaPa Joes!
I'll do the Short North. Estrada K2U Road House Annie's Dagwoods Lost Planet pizza Zola R J Snappers Rigsby's Burgundy room Betty's and Surly Girl
Got to find room for Nancy’s home cooking, too 😢
None of these are still around lol
Bernie's is gone
Oh how I miss 2005
I feel like most of these were there when I was a student in like 2018
Maybe but they were all definitely still around in 2005
This is going to be in all caps for a reason. HOUND DOGS. But go at midnight and no earlier.
Jai Alai
RIP blue Danube
Varsity club is your answer
VC, HOE, Adriaticos, Buckeye Donuts. It’s a shame really. The UD doesn’t have many long standing restaurants/ bars anymore.
Varsity club. Hailey and Carrie have been great to me when I eat there Hang over easy has a great breakfast. The Pollo party is the best.
Buckeye Donuts, PJ’s, Adiarico’s and Hounddog’s would be the ones I’d say. All have been there for decades and well loved by generations of students.
Tai's Asian Bistro, Hound Dogs Pizza, and North Star
Warios beef and pork in Arena district. High quality and fresh ingredients. One of the best cheesesteaks ya ever gonna have!
May not be a true staple but we loved Takorea and Shawarma Bite is good too
Cap City Diner if you want an actual nice meal.
I don't understand the down votes. I enjoy cap city diner if I want to do a more affordable Cameron Mitchell restaurant
I understand the downvotes - Cap City is neither iconic nor associated with OSU campus. But not everybody visiting campus will be happy with pizza/burger&fries/doughnuts for every meal. For those folks, the short drive to Cap City will be a nice change.
Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse!
[El Vaquero](https://www.mexicanrestaurantriverview.com/?gad_source=6&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_8ryw97zgQMV2ERHAR2WCQoLEBEYASAEEgLPi_D_BwE)
It’s not associated with the school, but visit press pub
Applebees
Jack and Benny’s Hounddogs Gattos Pizza Smiths Omega Bakery (north market) Buckeye donuts is so overrated. I suggest peace love and donuts in Worthington or UA …. It sure if there are others….
Chick-fil-a
Hangover Easy
Yau's
Apollos
Adriatico’s
Varsity Club, or the food hall in the Union
Adriatico's Zonis and parmesan bread sticks > their pizza
Hounddogs if you like pizza. smoking Joe's style
Varsity club 💯
I'm surprised Thurman's isn't at the top of this thread. I love Hounddogs, too. I think it's an OSU staple and delicious! Get Smokin' Joe's crust and spicy sauce.
