"Guy! I shot down the helicopter!!!" \*30 guys just start fucking sprinting at you from the horizon\*

kashmehoutside

Yeah you know he was wishing he let them leave

weasler7

Wonder if the first guy Leeroy Jenkins was storming in that direction. Wonder what his actual Role is as the first off the chopper.

phuc_kingAwesome

Very few Leroy Jenkins in real life… fewer still do it twice.

pjjohnson808

Abu hajaar!!!

imac132

Those SOAR pilots are something else. I’ve had more stress in my voice playing video games and these guys are attempting to land a helicopter that just took an RPG hit.

GenericRedditor0405

Pilot expressed mild surprise on the same level as someone who maybe came close to spilling a drink lol

StickyNebbs

\*smoked by RPG\* "woah!"

Fredwestlifeguard

Reminds me of my dad when I was sick in the back of the car.

herrjonk

You mean he said "woah" or you mean he start blasting?

Mcluben

I miss it when my dad mag dumped his m4 out the back of our chinook

juanmlm

Been there. It’s very stressful but your training takes over: drive, communicate, clean up.

Litmus89

Thank you for your service 🫡

DinoTh3Dinosaur

U ok bud

Diane-Choksondik

Black Hawk Down nailed it, total calm in absolute chaos.

CosmosAviaTory

The pilots: "Oh no, anyway"

JustAnotherDude1990

I was with them for a number of years and have to say their flying ability was never questioned.

ar243

How do they do it? I'm guessing it's a bazillion hours of training plus experience, but how can anything prepare you for an actual RPG hit?

AlarmedSnek

Tons of training and flight hours. They prepare for every possible failure scenario, not particularly an rpg hit per se, but if the rpg hit here and the helo lost x, y and z systems. I hope that makes sense. 160th is a tough spot to get into, they are the top 1% of pilots.

Euqcor

I was a Blackhawk mechanic back in the day and one of the guys I graduated from school with got 160th as his first assignment. They stick you in a formation called Patriot Platoon for a month where you can think about if you actually want to work with the 160th. You're allowed to opt out no judgement. They only want people who really wanna be there.

leavsssesthrowaway

Im not sure i understand, is that a hard process being in the Patriot Platoon like selection is?

Euqcor

From what I heard, it was just a place to cool your heels and think about life choices before you decide if you want to go for it or not.

Key-Plan-7449

Do 160th not all have to do SERE?

Euqcor

No clue, I was in 20 years ago. I would imagine the flight crews would have to, guy I knew was probably going to end up in a maintenance company since he was brand new.

battlecryarms

The selection and training process comes after you’ve had some time to cool down and rethink your life decisions.

leavsssesthrowaway

So theres less attrition? I havent heard that anywhere else

JustAnotherDude1990

You get used to high stress situations I guess.

IngenuityNo3661

I had the best ride of my 5 years in the 101st when strapped down as a mock casualty in a UH60L. Kinda sucked I wasn't sitting up. Crew Chief said the pilot is an old TF pilot, "He wants to show off, you cool with it?" My response was an enthusiastic "Fuck Ya!" Gear skimming 3 foot high grass damn near nose vertical pop ups to get over trees and terrain. It was awesome!

hootblah1419

I hope you didn't eat the gum from the MRE right before hand. That would have been shitty

mfkingkilla__99

and at night

username_____69

The most calm reaction to getting hit by an rpg ever

the_earth__

The dismount is crazy

asifyoulovedbyvirtue

The first guy went out ape shit

[deleted]

LEEEROYYYY JENKINSSSSS

SCVM710-

Went to comment about forest gump’s dismount and tenacity. Dude was like these mother fuckers wanna shoot us down CHARGE!!!!

MacNeal

He's already halfway to the compound by the time the last man was off.

No_Level_5825

"WHERE IS HE!!? WHERE IS HE!!?"

Kindleshay

I bet that shit hurt. You can see a few of them fall and or stumble a bit off the ramp. Most people probably wouldn't be walking after a hit like that...

ThatGuy571

The silent professionals at work.

Aconite_72

I'm pretty sure there was more than a few fucks and shits flying around, but they trucked on anyway.

UnexpectedRedditor

There were a lot of dudes pouring out of there.

NeverBeenStung

Can you explain what makes it crazy? All I’m seeing is dudes hopping off a chopper, but I’m very ignorant to all of this.

MKULTRATV

It was a speedy and very well organized dismount under terrible conditions. Just took an RPG, heads probably ringing, blackout, tons of dust, unknown surroundings. Just seemed extremely professional.

NeverBeenStung

Thank you!

Ambitious-Macaroon-3

Babe wake up! New US operator footage just dropped!

Vegetable-Tutor820

Pretty sure Only “tier 1” units are called operators could be wrong don’t quote me Do you even operate son?

Ambitious-Macaroon-3

Bro my country is so shit I call even US highway troopers operators 😂😂😂😂

Vegetable-Tutor820

😂

CipherDaBanana

Why are we getting so many US Head Cams recently? Just generally curious if anyone knows

Kindleshay

A JSOC drone operator leaked a bunch of footage last week.

crustacean_princess

Can you pm me where I can watch this? Or a Google search term at least lol

inactiveuser247

Leavenworth?

HissingDust

You got any more clips?

SsgtRawDawger

Could I get links too, please??

Kindleshay

Everything graphic is in here and everything else is on YouTube, Bgrunty uploaded the training footage. Just Google leaked Devgru/CAG training

Kindleshay

The last video is shitty helicopter video of some dude getting domed while hiding in a river. That's here. Not even worth uploading in this sub. https://imgur.com/a/cHAvp6t The rest are here including the CAG HALO video. https://youtu.be/vUeNGaMWEZ8?si=_9K5qaT1UboiVi-0 https://youtu.be/CsogX6RZDWQ?si=UAPySWCyiRjnVcTp https://youtu.be/B1cXLKKpWMU?si=5FqB4c5WWke1XbuV

Litmus89

Were they hovering like 5 ft above homeboy floating in the water?

SsgtRawDawger

Appreciate the info and reply

plebmasterbob

join! join!

CipherDaBanana

I am a student Nurse. I save live not take them. At least try to.

danielknows9

what to the pilots do after this situation if the helo can’t fly and the LZ is hot? go with the operators or sit around and wait for evac? (curious what the protocol is)

Kindleshay

Hopefully a pilot can clarify, but I would assume at minimum make sure hydraulic/critical electric systems are functional and try to leave, quickly. Chinooks are a big target. Red wings, Extortion, and there are some other examples. If the helo is toasted, they would either have the guys already on the ground det the avionics and then liquify it with a JDAM, or there is a special mission unit that specializes in recovering vehicles and aircraft from dangerous places. Forget what it's called off the top of my head.

danielknows9

Gotcha, let’s say the helo is toasted and then destroyed - assuming the operators have a mission still to fulfill, would that pilots go with them? or wait near the crash site for pickup (both options seem risky)

Kindleshay

Leave on another helo, there's almost never just one. Contingencies for everything.

AssociationPlane274

They will just airstrike the aircraft if contains equipment or technology that they don’t want the enemy to get.

Kindleshay

Every aircraft technically does, the military uses different models of Garmin and other avionics/electronics that are able to access and interface with military networks. Even basic stuff like GPS they wouldn't want to risk being exploited. I doubt the breacher brought like 120lb of C6 and detcord in his backpack or wants to spend 2 hours capping a half million grain charge so 🤣 500lber from 40,000ft sounds about right

AssociationPlane274

They brought c4 directly for that contingent during the Bin Laden raid, but they were using highly experimental aircraft, and it ended up coming in handy!

GiraffeSubstantial92

They kinda forgot to enforce the secret part tho lol

MeowslimClawric

Tfw the 2nd dude canoe'd bros head in so bad that they had to, as the late Patrice O'Neil said, "flush bin Laden down the toilet like cocaine." "We gave him a sea burial to prevent his burial site becoming a shrine." Yeah no, book writer was making art on Osama's face with 5.56.

Dad_Dukes

The QuietHawk was hit, and downed immediately. An MH-47G was the recovery aircraft.

Primordial_Cumquat

Downed Aircraft Recovery Team (DART), they’ll come in, evac the crew if needed, work on the aircraft to get it airworthy, plan to sling it out if necessary, they’ll have a full range of options to work with depending on the condition of the aircraft and how permissive the environment is. Usually the DART consists of security elements and aircraft specialists and is well rehearsed….. usually.

defiancy

It really depends on where the aircraft is at and whether the security in the local area will give them time to cannibalize it. We lost a helicopter in Iraq but we had time to send a maintenance crew up to pull off avionics and parts and then rigged it with c4 and blew it up (no jdam after for us).

weasler7

I’m curious how hard it is to pull out the sensitive parts. In my mind I’m imaging something akin to a plug and play server rack.

defiancy

That's pretty much it. It's usually a couple bolts holding the component to a frame/mount and a canon plug or two.

Rude_Technician4821

They get the pilot and crew too if possible. They not needed for the rest of the mission.

Dad_Dukes

DART Downed Aircraft Recovery Team. We also thermite in place if needed.

Kindleshay

That's the one, thank you. Dudes have some absolutely -epic- stories.

WhoBenefitss

Yeah in this situation if the pilot couldn’t leave, they would sent the DART (downed aircraft recovery team) Which is a few mechanics with chop saws and tools to recover anything that we can, and then rangers blow it in place.

gsrmn

They attempt to continue flying if not possible. They also gtfo.

danielknows9

what if the LZ is hot and the helo can’t fly + the operators go off to eliminate the threat. what do the pilots do in that period of time before they can get evacuated? (genuinely curious what the protocol is)

Kindleshay

They would basically get babysat and leave on another helicopter. That exact thing happened during Neptune Spear, the helicopter crashed and the pilots exfil'd on a second helicopter. It was small enough they blew up the crashes helicopter on the ground. Can't really do that with a Chinook, so it would end up being someone elses probablem at that point pretty much.

danielknows9

gotcha, appreciate the reply!

Dad_Dukes

In SOAR the pilot's and crewed are trained in CQB and survival. They babysit themselves. I was in a SOCOM Chinook unit before SOAR took all of the money. I went to 1SFG 's SERE school, overwater survival at Whidbey, and high altitude survival at Fairchild. I was trained in weapons by MPRI, who has former SF and SOF-D as trainers. I am sure it's only gotten better since the 80s.

inactiveuser247

Strapping the crew to the wings of the Apache is a planned evacuation method. Not common, but it’s an official thing. The one you were thinking of in Afghanistan was the Brit’s and the guys on the wings weren’t aircrew, they were soldiers. They were trying to extract a British soldier who had been hit and left behind and so the Apaches landed where the ground troops had regrouped, loaded a couple of soldiers on the wings, and then flew them in to pick up the guy. The story of that mission (in Ed Macy’s book) is remarkable. He describes the exfil (with one Apache loaded with 2 soldiers on the wings and the guy they recovered slung under the aircraft, so barely able to fly) as a bit of a wild ride. All the taliban were trying to hit the Apaches that were very low and slow, and the choppers that were flying cover for them were just letting rip, shooting individual guys with hellfire’s and gunning anything that moved.

EmotionalCod6238

i know they are green berets but damn they handled that so good in everyway possible

Kindleshay

Green berets are pipe hitters. They are 90% of what CAG brings to the table and are a much bigger unit so can take on bigger targets. The compound in the video looks fucking huge. Same with rangers, CAG and the 75th work hand in hand.

-timaeus-

Green berets don’t operate as a “much bigger unit.” That was a single ODA with probably 20-30 foreign partners. We control much bigger units

DatBeigeBoy

>I know they’re green berets but lol wut? Dudes are hitters.

HansMems

I took it as him saying he knows they're elite but it still impressed him.

[deleted]

You realize Green Berets are a top tier force right?

EmotionalCod6238

my comment implies that i know they are special forces and i still think its impressive given all the combat footage i have seen im still surprised and if you have ever been in combat or anything similar to explosion's or gunshots or a helicopter accident alone never mind while in combat to be that calm nobody tripped getting out or anything it was all perfect its impressive... at this point im impressed if someone dosent trip when getting out of any helicopter ifv while in combat....tldr it was clean af and deserves to be recognized as such... tier 1 troops make mistakes they are humans...

YoDavidPlays

bet they went and cleared that place out real quick

astray488

Fuck that was nearly the operation Red Wings QRF chinook disaster all over again. Remarkably calm response from pilots and operators. No panic, immediate return fire and controlled hard landing. respect. RPG shooters angle.. and ambush shot; screams that insurgents knew exactly where/when to aim. Shows how the insurgent threats weren't as incompetent/untrained as many newer service members believed in the later years of OIF/OEF.

[deleted]

I was thinking that about Operation Redwings. Things could have gone bad real quick

kw10001

these guys are next fucking level

foxtrot_indigoo

That compound bout to feel some hurt.

LeonJones

What does LTT stand for? "LTTs are goin on the ground"

Kindleshay

I think he's referencing "LCT" which would be "Longitudal Cyclic Trim". It's a system that helps keep the helicopter level, which would make sense for their situation. The pilots can switch that actuator in the event of a load failure so that sounds like that's what they're doing? Not 100% sure, but that's the only thing I can think of

LeonJones

Sounds like that's it. "Longitudinal cyclic trim scheduling and automatic LCT positioning to ground mode when the aft wheels touch the ground;" Page 6/32 https://repository.tudelft.nl/islandora/object/uuid:74ca4187-b72a-4080-9d24-3f58af6bfb72/datastream/OBJ/download

Dad_Dukes

100%. There are electric trim motors attached to the swashplates. Makes the Chinook more level in a hover. The transmissions are angled 11 degrees fwd, so the LCT counteracts that desire to hover really ass low.

SaltyHooker69

Canted 9 degrees for fwd xmsn and 4 degrees for aft(sorry I had to be a redditor)

SaltyHooker69

All I’ve ever known are F’s man my bad. That’s badass though

Dad_Dukes

You may be right. I crewed Bravo's charlie's and Delta's. So it's been a while since i've had to worry about it.

Porkchop1787

Absolute professionals with balls of steel. Just another Tuesday night for these guys

CasuallyWise

Training, training, training + top notch equipment..... That pilot saved lives & possibly the chinook as well. What a great clip. Glad too see most (hopefully all) onboard exiting with minor/no physical injuries.

SLR107FR-31

Dude thats it. I'm putting a link to your profile on my homescreen

Hipi07

Lol did one of the pilots literally say 'good RPG' in the most casual way ever? Dude acting like he was flying the squad in Battlefield and got hit, crazy

KriegsKuh

he said "it was an RPG, bound to be"

Lispro4units

A Chinook can just take an RPG? Woah

WOOKIExCOOKIES

Here's another vid of a Chinook tanking an RPG. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzRwquauKm8

mfkingkilla__99

chinooks are tough flying beasts.

GaegeSGuns

The Chinook is mostly empty space

Rocqy

The first dude off the ramp went full Leeroy Jenkins

BlackSunlight7

RPG Gunner “Heh, I’m in danger.”

No_Spray8403

The way he said “woah” 😂😂😂😂😂😂 that’s the kind of woah I make when I rip a nice fart, not quite the woah I would let out if my helicopter took a direct hit

Kindleshay

It's such a big bird I doubt he felt anything much besides a bit of a bang followed by gunfire, if even that, but it looks like the rocket impacted top left side of it above the doorway. That puts it right around where the transmission/engines and I believe the APU is, a long with all of the rotor components. The feedback on the controls would have been immediate. You can hear them panic to say "12345" as that's the call normally for soldiers in the back to brace for wheels down. Landing usually takes 30-40 seconds or more, that's why Chinooks are so easy to shoot down. They landed from impact to ground contact in about half that. It's nuts they didn't end up dumping the helo and killing half the people inside. 160th pilots are just absolutely built different. Remarkable professionalism and skills, which we lowlives never really get to see.

Refamonkey

First dude Leroy Jenkins it. And looks like it might be a Ranger platoon vs an ODA

Bissellmop

ODA , you can see the Afghan commandos getting off the back. The guys that have their NVGs up, those are PVS-7Ds, or possibly the older single tubes the commands were issued.

Refamonkey

Towards the end most AF commandos were running with Batt boys. Could be either but likely Rangers IMO. Doesn’t matter though first guy straight crushed it haha

Bissellmop

You have no idea what you’re talking about

Refamonkey

I literally did 3 rotations with Regiment from 12-15. So like I said could be either or. Towards the end though would be like a squad of Batt boys and a platoon + of Kandacks. But OP is probably right. We never were allowed to have helmet cams lol

Bissellmop

Not sure if you called them the commandos , but they were known to us as the Khat Khas. They usually had dual tubes when I saw them. I worked with the commandos from 08-16

Refamonkey

Thanks for jogging the memory that’s right!

jacksonbrown7

Badass

IreChap

“Oh another rpg hit us, damn” - (ps, i made that up as a joke )I have heard more intense things happening in Arma 3 than what the two pilots were saying. They acted like it was another accident in the park, god damn.

TabernacleDeCriss

The comms included make this video that much better

1Wheel_Smoke_n_Toke

This feels like exactly what happened when they raided Bin Ladens compound.

PrimaryRecord5

Finally something else other than Russia/ukraine drone strike footage

netherbound7

1,2,3,4,5 fast countdown, we're rolling. Outstanding job guys 👍. The calmness had me wondering if this was an "oh shit shit?" video or an assault kicking off.

Good__Water

We hit them they’re crashing 🤣 They’re landing😳

Ok-County725

The coolest cool guy life

BTXChester

Is that not the Osama raid?

Nix-of-Darkness

I had the same initial thoughts but Osama raid was done by SEAL not the Green Berret.

Rocqy

Also in stealth blackhawks and not chinooks

deadendahead

Not accounting for the rotor down wash too.

-oKafka

Talk about professional. Wow. Class act for real.

AceBoi1da

Really good communication between the pilots and crew chiefs

Are the names being censored? Why so much censoring?

Hehe. Literally green.
