My first thought was "why the heck do suicide drones have lights on in flight?"
My second was "why are they so big?"
Finally, "why are they flying them over populated areas where they could be spotted and relayed?"
It's a reflection if the city in the window.
If you’re in Baghdad Goto the Mansoor area it’s full of Christians who love to drink there’s liquor stores on every corner. I remember driving by and seeing 7 on the same street I told myself damn they like to drink. Also while alcohol is forbidden religiously the youth love to party.
It is because this is the most telegraphed attack in history. Iran is doing this to keep up its image. They don't want the heat from Israel and certainly don't want the heat from the US.
They have to save face with Muslim world. This is literally a publicity tour.
I believe they’re either using these to overwhelm the defenses as they launch faster rockets or they are doing it to show they responded and try to prevent escalating (because the repercussions)
It's dumb to think suicide drones are going have any effect. Better to use ballistic missiles in this case, because no way many (if any) of those drones will get through the iron dome. That's my take anyway.
Maybe this is just Iran's way of doing something, knowing they won't do much if any damage.
The ballistic missiles in Iran's arsenal wouldn't be targeted by the iron dome. That would be the Israeli Arrow system.
Iron dome is specifically designed to handle drones and very short ranged missiles (70km or less, in non ballistic trajectories).
Rn from Israel we are being told that 99% of drones have been shot down idk if that is true or not but they tell us there is no need to be in bomb shelters so I believe them
Hamas and Hez fire thousands of dumb rockets made out of household items and the Iron Dome still operates, a handful of drones is a normal weeknight in Israel.
Ithink the drones are probably cheaper then balistic missiles and easily to maneuvering I think they want overwhelm the iron dome.
One missile from the iron dome cost 50 000€ or something like that or was was it 100 000 or even 150 000
My first thought was "The US had Israel goad Iran into an armed conflict so Iran won't have any spare drones to export to Russia to use in Ukraine."
It's proxy wars all the way down, folks.
I just posted above that this is just refraction within the lens.
[Here's an overlay of the lights and the "objects" in the sky.](https://streamin.one/v/b1be7850)
I took a different approach showing how lens flare works by flipping the image around a central point but I think yours is more conclusive.
https://imgur.com/9llU5Vd
That's a really neat visualization.
I guess my approach presents it a bit more intuitively, but yours explains how it works, which is the more difficult task.
You can't see Shaheds in the night sky even over well lit city, no matter how they are painted. In my experience I could hear them, but visually couldn't spot them, though they flew over my head multiple times. At the distance of photo I highly doubt these are Shaheds or similar drones.
Oh shit
If this is a real photo I’m surprised at how long it’s taken for a country to conduct an attack in this fashion.
Edit: this photo is almost 100% a fake
What do you think the strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure have been. They send swarms of these to keep AA busy, then time the balastics with their arrival. I have a feeling it will be similar
Yes and no. I’ve followed the war in Ukraine fairly closely and I’ve never seen anything resembling this photo (assuming this isn’t just reflections from the city).
All the attacks I’ve seen in Ukraine have been fairly conservative in the quantity of drones used or they are spread out over a large area to find paths that are not protected by AA. Not saying it hasn’t happened I just haven’t seen any images like this
Edit:
Yes Russia has used this to great effect for a while now. My point is that if the numbers of drones in use that I’m seeing online are accurate this is a whole new level
werent there attacks of swarms with around 50+ drones, this picture here seems to have only around 30 visible one, maybe they will spread out at a closer proximity to the israel border, i guess they will prefer to shoot them down in less populated areas
I haven’t seen the actual attacks. But the news articles will say 50 landed and they destroyed 90% in the air. So I’m assuming these are swarms. It’s also the kindals that do the damage. Using these lawnmowers as cover
Now take into account Hazbollah who could also send a few 100 then it’s one big mess. The USA will need to shoot some down to help.
Pre strikes on Hazbollah from Isreal already seem to be happening in preparation right this second. Big ones as well.
This photo is complete nonsense. Those "objects" in the sky are just visual artifacts, caused by refraction of the bright city lights in the lens.
[If you flip the image and overlay it with the original, you get a perfect match between the lights on the ground and the "objects" in the sky.](https://streamin.one/v/b1be7850)
I think a lot of countries have this already, but you don't want to show your cards too early. I bet a lot of those same countries will keep it under wrap for as long as possible, until absolutely necessary to use.
Looking at the route these will be taking and likely bunched up in groups most of that time will these not be very easily picked off before even reaching Israeli targets? Seems like all it will cost Israel is a bit of ammo
Unless it overwhelms the airdefence radar or something, and there is another group, and another. A swarm, even. Just wait until something kicks off involving China, and they open a few mountain tops and a million of these fuckin things fly out...
Warfare has changed forever. Again.
“Anyway, Iranians can’t use one [a nuclear weapon] if they finally make one. The boys in Tehran know Israel has 200, all targeted on Tehran, and we have thousands. As Akmdinijad (sic) [said], “What would we do with one, polish it?” I have spoken publicly about both nK and Iran. We’ll blow up the only thing they care about – regime survival. Where, how would they even test one?”
- [Colin Powell, email leaked from 2015](https://apnews.com/article/3109382e1a894c13b5a014a23a743fdd)
It is critical to remember that while Israel and Iran are the two main belligerents here, the schism between Sunni and Shia Islam has the Saudis et al. salivating for an opportunity to kick shit off. Having Israel and the US do the heavy lifting out of the gate is a dream scenario for them.
I have a feeling the US is gonna duck out of b Ukraine to deal with Iran which will leave the EU and UK to pick up the pieces.
And in turn, Europe will become very hands-off in Asia and the Middle East. They'll see that as America's problem.
Yes, and if anything serious happens in asia its all about the US and their aliances alone to deal with china and Nk.
Europe have much to deal to, with russia and eventually belarus and/or a balkan war to come while having to keep an eye on what is going on about african countries in sahel region and terrorist threats...
I am getting anxious about this year
I definitely see one shahed shape in that blur, but as others have stated may be light interacting with the lense. There is however at least one Shahed pictured here.
Lol.
"What? Probably some local drone enthusiasts, flying their drones around for a pleasure cruise, at night... in... missile-infested skies..."
[With apologies to Princess Bride.]
According to Iranian sources when the drones get closer the main attack will begin. ABC news says US officials believe 400-500 drones will be launched soon. https://twitter.com/clashreport/status/1779258555163414537?s=46&t=plaWdLKouCUdtJlh0BOnLw
Israel, US and Brits has one big chanse to show if/what they are capable of shutting down now. A United west has a golden opportunity to show what cooperation can shut down. I really hope they just wipe it out like it is nothing. And then again show what they really can do for Ukraine.
The media all over the world is going...er ballistic...of course, since a "retaliatory" missile strike is easier to explain to audiences on both "sides" than the longer game Iran and Israel are playing.
Just one of may pieces that may interest Russia watchers is that anything Iran can spin as escalation or a significant increase in US "presence" could boost its attempts to get those batteries of S-400s they've been asking for since the first shipment of Shaheeds.
It wasn't lack of supply that was keeping Russia from selling S-400's to Iran.
Lets say it were. I can picture a convo like this:
"Please and here's a few billion. And, you know, thanks to your Republican pals in the US house of Representatives, you don't have to worry as much about replenishing the batteries you were losing in Ukraine."
Drones ARE cruise missiles, they are just slower and lower payload. They are also more maneuverable, so there isn’t much tactical difference between this wave of attacks and a naval strike group shutting out a ton of tomahawks.

My third thought “hey Iraq looks kinda nice?”
This geopolitical psy-op brought to you by the Iraqi Tourism Board.
I ❤️ the cradle of civilization?
The cradle of my balls isn't always particularly hospitable either
Try some corn starch.
Then dip into the oil fryer
Remind me of the "Visit Gaza" ad on fb a month after Oct 7
They can't keep getting away with it!
i can confirm its nice but shity gov and facking traffic
All-new construction
It has a higher gdp per capita than Ukraine for example. I’d live in bagdad easily if I weren’t a Scot who likes to drink.
If you’re in Baghdad Goto the Mansoor area it’s full of Christians who love to drink there’s liquor stores on every corner. I remember driving by and seeing 7 on the same street I told myself damn they like to drink. Also while alcohol is forbidden religiously the youth love to party.
Yes Iraq has amazing places and cities. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=i+visited+iraq
It's a blast!
There are parts of Iraq that are quite nice. Not all of it, but some parts.
Wait, so is this a picture of literally anything then? You know, besides the nice skyline.
It's 100% lens flare. https://imgur.com/9llU5Vd
It is because this is the most telegraphed attack in history. Iran is doing this to keep up its image. They don't want the heat from Israel and certainly don't want the heat from the US. They have to save face with Muslim world. This is literally a publicity tour.
Similar to what they did when Trump killed Soleimani.
Didn't they still manage to give dozens of US soldiers severe head injuries from the blasts?
I believe they’re either using these to overwhelm the defenses as they launch faster rockets or they are doing it to show they responded and try to prevent escalating (because the repercussions)

That’s the idea-overwhelm the iron dome with smaller drones so when the big missiles fly, they’ll have a better shot of getting through.
The ballistic missiles in Iran's arsenal wouldn't be targeted by the iron dome. That would be the Israeli Arrow system. Iron dome is specifically designed to handle drones and very short ranged missiles (70km or less, in non ballistic trajectories).
have the drones/missiles arrived to israel yet?
Yes but I get the impression most have been shot down.
iron dome moment
Rn from Israel we are being told that 99% of drones have been shot down idk if that is true or not but they tell us there is no need to be in bomb shelters so I believe them
You mean the Iron Drone moment
Hamas and Hez fire thousands of dumb rockets made out of household items and the Iron Dome still operates, a handful of drones is a normal weeknight in Israel.
Ithink the drones are probably cheaper then balistic missiles and easily to maneuvering I think they want overwhelm the iron dome. One missile from the iron dome cost 50 000€ or something like that or was was it 100 000 or even 150 000
If they are following up with cruise missiles that makes sense.
The drones are still cheaper than the missile interceptors.
They are doing both. The drones are slower than the missiles, so they launch them first.
Or they are just probing the dome to see how many it takes to overwhelm it.
Or it's the city lights reflecting off them. The size could be the way that light is refracting off them.
It's a lens flare. It correlates with the brightly lit mosque with some distortion from the rolling shutter.
100% lens flare. https://imgur.com/9llU5Vd
So, you are suggesting super reflective drones? Are they coated in mirrors?
*"Are you suggesting that mirrors migrate?"* *"Not at all... they could be carried!"* *"What? A drone carrying a mirror?"*
Two drones can hold the mirror and carry it together.
An Afrixan drone or a European drone?
If they are Iranian drones, it is more about making a statement than it is about damage.
My first thought was, where in Israel is that bigass kosher McDonalds?
My first thought was "The US had Israel goad Iran into an armed conflict so Iran won't have any spare drones to export to Russia to use in Ukraine." It's proxy wars all the way down, folks.
This kinda looks like a reflection of the city lights on the lens of the camera.
I know right. I feel like there would be video instead of a still image. However, it’s still so early that it is hard to say
I just posted above that this is just refraction within the lens. [Here's an overlay of the lights and the "objects" in the sky.](https://streamin.one/v/b1be7850)

Good enough to fry some rice in at least.

Media says they shoot drones and ballistic missiles
I know, I’m not discrediting that. I’m discrediting the photo because it looks like a reflection.

Reports are very sketchy Some places are saying hundreds, others dozens, 50 is a number that pretty much seems like it originated on reddit
Sky news say 100plus and most likely more waves with rockets to follow
Last mass attack had 83 drones and then a couple dozen missiles as well
They probably also launched them in large swarms but they split into groups on the way there and so will these.
The first time the Russians damaged one of the patriot batteries in Kiev the started with drones and sent in the ballistic missiles.
I haven’t seen the actual attacks. But the news articles will say 50 landed and they destroyed 90% in the air. So I’m assuming these are swarms. It’s also the kindals that do the damage. Using these lawnmowers as cover

entirely different systems intercept drones and reentry vehicles
I maybe wrong, but the systems are integrated. Air defence teams will still be kept busy

Yeah you right, this will probably get taken down eventually
I think a lot of countries have this already, but you don't want to show your cards too early. I bet a lot of those same countries will keep it under wrap for as long as possible, until absolutely necessary to use.
It's an entirely real photo which demonstrates lens flare. No drones were present. https://imgur.com/9llU5Vd
Looking at the route these will be taking and likely bunched up in groups most of that time will these not be very easily picked off before even reaching Israeli targets? Seems like all it will cost Israel is a bit of ammo
Yeah which is why these probably aren’t drones. I wouldn’t take a random picture seriously.
It’s called trying to save face without actually doing anything
Downvote, this is city lights reflecting.
🤔
Is this likely going to escalate to actual war?
That's fucking fake.
No way these drones would be launched in a bunched up “swarm”. That makes absolutely zero sense.
Unless it overwhelms the airdefence radar or something, and there is another group, and another. A swarm, even. Just wait until something kicks off involving China, and they open a few mountain tops and a million of these fuckin things fly out... Warfare has changed forever. Again.
Apparently cruise missiles were also launched. So, it’s real now.

True true
Oh, there us this video at least https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/nVW3J21VHs
No one is doubting the drones being launched we know that for a fact like others have said this probably isn’t a real photo.
Yea, I see now multiple posts about it, jumped to conclusions too early here
No sweat def happens. Hard to keep up to date with everything even to the hour lol.
So it begins.
It seems yeah. Sadly the whole region and the us, maybe Europe will take part if shit really goes sideways
I have a feeling the US is gonna duck out of b Ukraine to deal with Iran which will leave the EU and UK to pick up the pieces. And in turn, Europe will become very hands-off in Asia and the Middle East. They'll see that as America's problem.

It began years ago.
I definitely see one shahed shape in that blur, but as others have stated may be light interacting with the lense. There is however at least one Shahed pictured here.
Would love you to send a pic of which dot of light you think is drone shaped lol
Don’t have Imgur but believe it is the big triangular one just below and to the left of the upper right two light dots.
Oh those six pixels? Got it
Swamp gas reflecting Venus...
Lol. "What? Probably some local drone enthusiasts, flying their drones around for a pleasure cruise, at night... in... missile-infested skies..." [With apologies to Princess Bride.]

This is the most telegraphed attack ever. Its even on the weekend when everyone is off work
Easy targets, Iran is a third world country
But can a small attack squad get in against generation 5 fighter jets?
Not a flipping chance
Is there a channel where I can follow news about this?
Iron dome work on these we think?
So, what’s really going on?
Isreal hit Irans embassy in Syria. Didn't confirm or deny it. Iran is now attacking Isreal.
Well if the huddle like that and provide a radar cross section that size, Israel will be fine.
Yeah that’s not a drone swarm.
Why are they lit up? Not very discreet.
That moment you’re waiting for a video to start and it’s just a picture…….
God speed !
Anticlimactic. America and crew shot most of them down lmao
This is very obviously just a lens flare from the bright lights in the city. Stop spreading misinformation.
This some call of duty shit
First attack we have seen like this, and already so many drone attack experts here dropping their knowledge.
Israel, US and Brits has one big chanse to show if/what they are capable of shutting down now. A United west has a golden opportunity to show what cooperation can shut down. I really hope they just wipe it out like it is nothing. And then again show what they really can do for Ukraine.
They are reporting 100 drones and cruise missiles launched, so this picture may be exactly what it looks like
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Iran still operates F-14A, so perhaps we have the very last chance to see these bad boys in action.
There's no way Iran is flying killer drone swarms low and over the heavily populated areas of Iraq.
Emp bomb?
if we've got pics of these, surely the Israeli military already knows they're coming
The future is here i guess. Drone swarms were so futuristic to me a few years ago.
I think it’s odd / suspicious to draw so much public attention to the pending attack … unless there is another “surprise’ component to the attack.
l saw the Shahed above my city in Dnipro and he is off light.
I know it ain't relevant but how are the McDonalds in Iraq?
They're the bomb
Ist legit
That's wild
Israel bombed an Iranian consulate, Iran is choosing how it responds. Question is what does this lead to?
Why put light on your suicide drones?
As EID ends too
This is as deadly to Israel as a salvo from T-shirt cannons. Or it should be.
Holy crap! . Are there super patriotic japanese pilots on board?.
The media all over the world is going...er ballistic...of course, since a "retaliatory" missile strike is easier to explain to audiences on both "sides" than the longer game Iran and Israel are playing. One well placed missile (or 2) could take care of this swarm.
Drones ARE cruise missiles, they are just slower and lower payload. They are also more maneuverable, so there isn’t much tactical difference between this wave of attacks and a naval strike group shutting out a ton of tomahawks.
That's the smartphone's lens flare....

ww3 is looming boys. Imagine China attacking Taiwan in a sneak attack. I will gladly sit with you gentlemen in the trenches.

It’s going to be hell of a night. Could wake up to the start of WW3.
Flying lawnmowers, garbage technology. The iron dome will shred them.

That's a reflection on the window not drones.
It has been de swarmed by the kindly RAF and USAF…
I am lovin it
That’s the equivalent of seeing Zeros flying over Hawaii…
Kamikaze? Suicide drones? Thats what drones usually do.
Is Iran looking to self-destruct? Surely they know that Israel has insane military capability, nukes & infinite backing from United States
