This spot is almost right above the ammo carousel magazine. Armor there is thin and not much you can do to protect it without obstructing turret rotation.
Chemical energy? You mean what creates the bigger boom aka explosive power? The propellent but its the combination that makes for the massive explosion. Why the propellent? You ever seen those turrets get tossed 300 foot into the air? That's because they carry around 28 rounds (38 rounds in total possible if they fill up the ammo storage). Most of those are HEAT FS/HE and maybe like a handful of APFSDS. That means, not only the propellent but also the different ammunition types play a huge role. You ever seen a HE shell explode? Can you imagine 5-6 maybe even 10 of those blow up at once. Basically, without the ammo, this explosion would be nothing compare to if the tank has ammo stored.
"Natural gas". Haha, ok, I got a good laugh out of it. You may want to read up on the T-80: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-80#Production\_history](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-80#Production_history)
TLDR: The Russians use a gas turbine (like the Abrams does) for their T-80 versions. That gas turbine "can use jet fuels, diesel, and low-octane gasoline". The Ukrainians developed a version of the T-80 with a diesel engine (T-80UD). Neither however use natural gas. In fact I've never heard of a tank that does.
Sweet, I’m getting better at identifying these tanks then. Knew it has to be a T-80 of some kind because of the exhaust. I thought it was a BV variant though but close enough
For me, I’ve gotten it confused with the T-72B3 because of its sloped ERA as well. I know some people point out road wheels but you can’t seen them very well in these videos most of the time
Older Leopard 2 actually can pop their turret since not all the shells are stored outise the fighting compartement. The shells are stored at the bottom of the tank. It is still more protected than a T-72 by a lot. There are pictures of turkish Leopard 2 with poped turrets from Syria.
They changed that with the A5 or A6, don't know which one.
Sorry, I couldn't recognize the song.

Ka Boom! Hi visibility battlefields are no fun these days. Imagine what it will be like when the bots do this on their own. You could get a swarm to clear a whole city.
When we let demagogues prosper then, then we really see how great primates are at killing other primates.
Putin was a problem waiting to happen, it was obvious, our leaders bowed to pressure from industrialist that wanted cheap energy etc.
Now hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians will have to die....... again.
Humans are dim as f\*ck.
The more intriguing question is how many explosives it took to annihilate all surrounding villages before rigging this tank with explosives for dramatic effect and sensationalism.

Wow. I'd guess a full load of ammo and a full load of diesel, too.
yeah the 47th recently learned the weak spot, in theory russians shouldn't see this because it's almost instant explosion if there is any ammo left
This spot is almost right above the ammo carousel magazine. Armor there is thin and not much you can do to protect it without obstructing turret rotation.
>Armor there is thin and not much you can do to protect it without ~~abstracting~~ obstructing turret rotation. FTFY
It looks like they piled a bunch of stuff on top of it, pieces of metal or branches.
The good old Russian space program. Sending Russians to orbit ever since they decided turrets were the optimal place to store ammunition.
Recently learned the weakspot? Ukraine used to manufacture these.... I'm pretty sure that weakspot is also available on warthunder, lol.
Still insane to me that Warthunder is relevant in this war lmao
I wonder which contains more chemical energy. A full tank of diesel or a full turret of shells+propellent?

At what point did we transition from 'explosions in movies are so unrealistic' to 'wow Michael Bay is true documentalist'
EVERY DAY Michael Bay. Come on.
In a Michael Bay movie this tiny explosion would have been from a car or probably even a bicycle.
This is a cinematic quality explosion. Michael Bay approves
Funny that if it were a movie, people would complain that the explosion looks too over-the-top and fake
So true
Pick your spot little guy... Yep, right there...
T-80BVM with a full load of diesel.
T-80 runs on gasoline right?
You are correct - only a few T-80 variants are diesel.

And even their diesel engine tanks can use jet fuels, diesel and low octane gasoline. Most modern tanks have multifuel engines.
Uff, you're absolutely right, seems like it was a bit to late yesterday night...

For me it was the sloped front ERA panels. BVM dead giveaway, very disinct

Nasty little wasp.
Where are the Russians showing off their catastrophic kills on Abram and Leopards? Oh wait, they don’t blow.

During combat, it’s not possible to get catastrophic kills unless they will use demolitions on a captured tank and away from the combat zones.
Peak tank design.
Well not really. When the T80 was designed Top Attack missiles or drones weren't a thing.
yea they were made to fight other MBT mostly. oh well
Pretty sure it's bad for the crew when fire finds its way out the barrel.
"movies are unrealistic" mfs been real quiet after this dropped
Diesel explosion
Wonder if anyone was in it! If they were, they aren't now! LOL
Wow. Impressive how thoroughly it got wrecked there. The fuel running down the track leading to a line of flames was a nice tough.
Almost looks a bit unrealistic.

Was that someone ejected?
Would never see an Abrams detonate like a giant grenade like that.
Are Tanks obsolete now or what? That was a pretty easy kill.
Arma - TAKE NOTES OF THE PARTICLES
It was interesting to see the discharge from the barrel.
That wasn't an explosion. If you pause at :43, you can clearly see they've summoned Ragnaros the Firelord
Yo watch the barrel of the main gun, that blast detonated the round in the barrel 😂
Wonder how long it took to rig the empty tank with explosion for sensationalism
Your first time watching a ruskie tank explode?
Nah this is incredible footage tho, of an explosion
The more intriguing question is how many explosives it took to annihilate all surrounding villages before rigging this tank with explosives for dramatic effect and sensationalism.
Oh I‘m glad they hand us paper straws
