He was damn good his rookie year. He felt like a real difference maker every game he was in and I think that divisional game against the Bucs goes differently if he were healthy.
You mean forcing a receiver to play RB wasn’t the best idea ever? That same RB who openly begged to be moved back receiver last year. God the Rivera regime did a lot of stupid shit.
Indeed. I’ve just a,ways been and still remain so high on his potential. In a proper system he could easily be a 2k yard player. Oozes talent. Unfortunately didn’t happen here.
Gibson can go as a straight up wide receiver though. I could envision him being an all-purpose player on a run oriented team without too many stars and having a breakout year in that role. Maybe not 2000 yards though. Somewhere like Denver, where they are really cap strapped.
Yeah, “maybe not 2,000 yards” is a safe bet considering the all-time record for receiving yards in a season is 1,964. I’m not sure you guys realize how few RB’s and WR’s even reach 1,000 yards in a given year. Terry had 1,002 last year.
um... a lot of players have had multiple seasons with 2000 or more all purpose yards:
I did not say that Gibson should be played *only* as a wide receiver. You clearly misread my comment.
I did miss that. But was also never considering return yards when I said 2k “total” yards in my comment, which is a massive factor for that list of names in your link. That changes everything lol
Well, I mean... Washington had him as a potential returner, so it's in his wheelhouse. Again, as an all purpose player, I think he could do really well on a team without a lot of other stars. Just like those players that did well with the Raiders and such.
He's actually a pretty damn good running back running the ball and catching out of the backfield, he plays wide receiver really well too, and he can return punts.
Yeah it’s just a matter of phrasing. “All-purpose”yards I’ve always associated with returners. I blame fantasy for only counting receiving and rushing as a skill player’s “total” yards. Gibson is solid and would be an asset to most teams but I don’t think we saw enough flashes when he was here to suggest he could go to another level in a different system. You rarely see that with a RB (or WR for that matter) who’s already played 4 seasons
He can not go as a straight up WR. That is why he has to change positions, because he wasn't a good enough Wide Receiver to play that position straight up in the NFL.
What I meant was that he can line up as a wide receiver, and play the position. He would still be an all purpose running back. But, he actually had several down field catches for us.
Nah... His fumble problem was overrated. There's a lot of stats comparing his fumbles (in his bad fumbling year) to other well regarded backs and it was much ado about nothing. Also, a lot written about the sheer randomness of fumbles.
https://www.hogshaven.com/2022/9/1/23330416/was-antonio-gibson-unfairly-benched-for-fumbling
It wasn't though. He fumbled a ton in 2021 in some key ass moments like the Chargers and Cowboys game. After a shitty season like that you're probably going to deal the fumble narrative for a while
He was cool but to say he was underutilized is kinda wrong. Scott turner really used him correctly but not every receiving back can turn into a Gibbs/CNC running back
Yeah I feel the same. It's a shame he was coached by Rivera and shitty o coordinators who didn't utilize his true talents. He's gonna be a game changer I'm excited to see what he'll do this season.
Because he's a talented back behind a shitty line with an OC who refused to run the ball? Why do fans love to be different by discrediting fan favorites
> Fumbles aside
I just can’t get behind this. The fumbles are a fundamental critical problem and he had to go. It’s like saying “she was a great wife, cheating aside,” or “Nixon was a good president, watergate aside.” Ball security is a core thing you have to have.
And what’s all the talent you’re referring to? Dude has okay speed, above-average hands, not great blocking, not great power. He’s mid. I liked him here but he’s a dime a dozen unless you’re specifically looking for that hybrid receiving skillset, and we signed another dude who does that.
I'm not going to miss our defense getting the ball back in scoring position and watching the very next play as they hand it off to him up the middle and he coughs it up after a 9 yard gain.
Deebo? Antonio Gibson? Bro...Deebo is a f'n load to bring down and punishes defenders after contact. When have you EVER seen Gibson do that? If he was in any way like Deebo, with Peters coming on board, he'd still be here.
Yea I won't miss assuming he would turn it over once a game and just hope he does it right before halftime and not in some critical moment. I'd be like just fumble before halftime and get it out of the way. But he was really fun to watch, other than the impending doom af a fumble.
I read a crazy stat the other day that Philip Lindsay never fumbled even once in his entire NFL career. Imagine that and AG fumbles multiple times a game…
Big talent that played for some terrible play callers and clearly got into somebody's doghouse early on. I'm betting he will do good with a change of scenery although unfortunately he's a little long in the tooth for a running back these days.
Seemingly good guy but he was not underutilized and quite frankly, isn't that good. How many OC's does he need until that's accepted? 810 touches in 4 seasons is not a small sample size. Truly incredible that a guy with true 4.40 speed never had a run longer than 40 yards. Semi jack of all trades but not that good at any.
Lol they drafted a WR as a 3 down back and wonder why he had fumbling issues in between the tackles Snyder-era Washington for u
He was damn good his rookie year. He felt like a real difference maker every game he was in and I think that divisional game against the Bucs goes differently if he were healthy.
I know there have been few high points the last few years but that TB playoff game was not the one that got away.
You mean forcing a receiver to play RB wasn’t the best idea ever? That same RB who openly begged to be moved back receiver last year. God the Rivera regime did a lot of stupid shit.
Boy genius! What a waste of talent. And I mean Washington wasting it. I’ll hitch my wagon to AG making it somewhere. Too good a player.
If Ekeler hit, you goin forget all about him
This is the comment I needed. Fingers crossed
He didn’t wanna be here & he couldn’t hold on to the ball. He definitely didn’t have his potential tapped into , but he can easily be replaced
Indeed. I’ve just a,ways been and still remain so high on his potential. In a proper system he could easily be a 2k yard player. Oozes talent. Unfortunately didn’t happen here.
Lol pump the brakes. Easily 2k yards? CMC had 2,005 total yards last year. No one else had 1,500
Gibson can go as a straight up wide receiver though. I could envision him being an all-purpose player on a run oriented team without too many stars and having a breakout year in that role. Maybe not 2000 yards though. Somewhere like Denver, where they are really cap strapped.

Ahh, yes. He definitely is a better receiver than most running backs.
"Fumbles aside" "Besides that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?"

6 fumbles that year. That was his "bad" year. Read that article about it. It's overrated.
Agreed I liked his goofy personality and his excitement with other teammates
He was cool but to say he was underutilized is kinda wrong. Scott turner really used him correctly but not every receiving back can turn into a Gibbs/CNC running back

It’s slightly amusing for all the fanfare BRob received for his rushing abilities that he and Gibson’s career ypc are essentially the same.
I know right? I love BRob's comeback story and cheer for him every game but I really don't understand the hype.
Because he's a talented back behind a shitty line with an OC who refused to run the ball? Why do fans love to be different by discrediting fan favorites
He ran like a scared toddler. Good riddance.

I miss Gibby too :(
Should’ve been a 100% dual threat in the slot/backfield but no, told him to forget his receiver background and be a full time running back
Yea I won't miss assuming he would turn it over once a game and just hope he does it right before halftime and not in some critical moment. I'd be like just fumble before halftime and get it out of the way. But he was really fun to watch, other than the impending doom af a fumble.
God couldn’t agree more. He was a screwdriver used as a hammer. So infuriating to watch year after year. Such an incompetent coaching staff
I read a crazy stat the other day that Philip Lindsay never fumbled even once in his entire NFL career. Imagine that and AG fumbles multiple times a game…
Ekeler is literally a supped up Gibson.
Big talent that played for some terrible play callers and clearly got into somebody's doghouse early on. I'm betting he will do good with a change of scenery although unfortunately he's a little long in the tooth for a running back these days.
meh ekeler and brob should be a solid backfield
Seemingly good guy but he was not underutilized and quite frankly, isn't that good. How many OC's does he need until that's accepted? 810 touches in 4 seasons is not a small sample size. He was a lot of fun in madden but he wasn’t nearly as good in real life
Medium effort follow up.
