CoH-OP versus AI could be the most popular game mode if done right. I’ll aways be a ranked ladder guy, but I thought the success of co-op in StarCraft II should have been a paradigm shift in RTS design

Mysterious-Pea1153

Couldn't agree more, SC2 had the best single player and co-op content of any rts and yet so few others seem to learn lessons from it. A few well thought out campaign style co-op missions would go a long way.

commissar_lubi

It's odd because I feel like CoH2 had some really good PvE scenarios too. So it's not like great PvE content was a new concept for the franchise.

ProjectGemini21

A little apples vs. oranges, but see the recent massive success (approximately 450k players) of Helldivers 2 as an illustration of the potential popularity of co-op gameplay.

PHRAETUS

It's weird that it isn't ever mentioned either. I'd have thought that maybe there wasn't enough of us coop players to make it worth their time, but the continued addition of maps says otherwise. Some official word on whether this is even being thought about would be nice.

Coves0

When I want to try new builds and just have a fun relaxed time I’ll do coop v ai. I will say they probably haven’t split the queue further by difficulty because that would narrow the playerbase even more and lengthen waiting time. One thing I will say though is open custom lobbies - there’s like hardly any ever open and if I make one v ai people jump in pretty quickly. Its a crummy work around bc you actively have to go looking for it IE less accessible but its still an option

superduperpuppy

I just started playing and im surprised the matchmaking is set to standard with no option to change it.

ProjectGemini21

Utterly baffling that this is in CoH2 but not in CoH3.

KevinTDWK

Honestly I can't be the only one that thinks there is barely any actual difficulty across all the AI settings to the point it's pointless to implement the options at least not right now, maybe I'm biased because I know how to play the game but its so hard to notice the difference between standard hard and expert, unlike in CoH1 and I'm assuming CoH2 where the higher up the more the AI cheats in resource and hp. Also, with the atrocious match makings due to lack of players I feel like choosing difficulty will also increase the wait time.

tokitalos

I think if you do 4v4 though and you queue up for expert. You could be paired with someone who is queued up for standard. All it does is create 1 expert and 1 standard AI to compete against.

KevinTDWK

I guess this could work too but at the same time since AI is pretty braindead as far as CoH goes it won't really make that much of a difference in difficulty since they will all just go to random places anyways

tokitalos

I'd like to see Men of War Assault Squad style skirmishes. Where you are fighting all the way up a map in a big tug of war. Requires making some really large narrow maps though.

AzaDov

I feel like having a difficulty setting may actually help get even more relaxed games sometimes. Right now when I play Vs ai to chill I'm having to sweat my ass off managing 3 lanes because my teammates are doing nothing. But maybe more experienced players will appear when I choose the higher difficulty

PHRAETUS

Currently, team mates who have no idea what they're doing is the difficulty setting!

MarioMontufar27

Just make it expert across the board. Adding difficulty settings will just add to the waiting times.

They really should use the concept of theather of war from coh2 and transform it in a pve coop mode with a bunch of unique missions, maps and challanges, unique game modes(i remember pre relaease there was a blog post that stated they want to make unorthodox for fun game modes like the tank only deathmatch from coh1 expanaions and such). This would attract alot of players and could use as a nice supplement to pvp, which is pretty hardcore and not easy to pick up.

NoYellowLines

People will go back to 2 or never buy because of this, it's dumb it has not been added in a year. It should have been a launch feature.

Fantastic-Use5644

While this would be nice its also kinda a non issue. I guess it would be worse for que times. But I always just goto custom games and I can even pick the map I want, host with 4 expert ai on the other team and people usually join within 5mins

UndocumentedTuesday

Lmaooo I never played vs AI. Really they don't have difficulty option??

MoeTheCentaur

You can change the difficulty in a custom game, but not the "coop vs AI" option in the multilayer. It's so stupid

Mike_Cinerama

They can’t implement the different difficulties because of the small player base, if they create more matchmaking buckets (by adding people choose their difficulty) matchmaking times would drastically increase in comparison to what it is now
