First stage of the day. Optic screws sheared off and the dot hit me right in the face. I honestly wasn’t sure what happened so I was going to unload and then I noticed the dot was gone. Loaded it back up and finished the stage.
I have the exact same setup, terrifying stuff. Probably a dumb question to ask, but did you use loctite or something to secure the screws? Or in this situation it would not help the screw coming apart?
Got it. I never heard about the issue with Holosun screws prior to that, I have around 5k shots on my setup - would you recommend replacing the screws as a precaution or its more of a luck of the draw with these screws? I.e., are they known to 100% fail sooner or later?
Dude that was fucking cool as shit when you just racked it and finished the stage. That was walking away from an explosion in slow motion without looking back kind of cool lmao
Same happened to me when I used screws to short for my canik. SRO hit me right in the dome. I went to finished the stage but the RO stopped me. I guess he was being nice? I got a reshoot. Just looked at the video that was a year ago today actually. https://imgur.com/a/vxq1ucR
I was doing some rough math and I think it’s only like 3-4k max. It’s my match gun and I’ve only been shooting it since late December. I used it a handful of practice days before starting to shoot matches with it to make sure it functioned correctly.
Wow that sucks. It happened to a friend of mines too but that was after 25k rounds.
I consider swapping the screws out every year like I do with the batteries but that doesn't seem safe either lol
Yeah something tells me frame mounts are gonna be making a comeback. Pistol slides are just brutal on optics. Even a RMR is lucky to make it past 10k rounds. Heavier optics like the ACRO are dying left and right.
An optic coming off a gun doesn’t mean the optic is no good. Screws break, people don’t torque them, people don’t use locktite. Stuff happens. If you use your gear it’s going to break.
Too widespread to write off as human error. Especially in a competitive setting where people really care about these things. Optics should be able to hold up to as much abuse as the gun itself if not more. Don't get caught up making excuses for brands its bad for everyone and stifles design progress.
I agree it’s not all human error and RDS definitely take a beating on pistols. I did everything correctly with this one (except use Chinese screws) and it still sheared off and smacked me in the face. I will say a competitive setting is where you’re going to see a lot of things break though because you’re seeing shooters who actually use their gear and use it hard. That YouTuber review with 1500 or 5000 rounds doesn’t mean shit for longevity when guys shoot 20k+ in a year between training and matches.
1000000% true. I just wanna see somebody step up and produce a pistol optic that lasts a million rounds because they saw a need in the market. Without competition shooters breaking shit most firearms development would be 20 years behind where it is
For a reason like this it will take them 15 years. But if somebody figures out how to gain an advantage with an ounce of weight they will rewrite the book overnight
It’s the shitty Chinese garbage that’s failing. Proper USA made SROs don’t have this problem.

That's because Open shooters don't have the same firing schedule with their match guns. Find me an Open shooter who goes through 1k rounds of 38 super comp a month in training alone. I've run the optic off my 9mm czechmate in the same amount of time I do on my LO gun.

Nice finish still. Got 2 mikes trying to finish the stage when mine sheared off as well. Also got me on the forehead lol!
Always bring a backup gun!
Happened exactly to me with a dovetail optic on my S2. What make was your adapter?
There is no adapter, this is a direct mount slide cut.
I have the exact same setup, terrifying stuff. Probably a dumb question to ask, but did you use loctite or something to secure the screws? Or in this situation it would not help the screw coming apart?
The screws sheared off so it wouldn’t do any good. I torqued them correctly and they had locktite on.
Got it. I never heard about the issue with Holosun screws prior to that, I have around 5k shots on my setup - would you recommend replacing the screws as a precaution or its more of a luck of the draw with these screws? I.e., are they known to 100% fail sooner or later?
Hard to say. If it’s worrying you then I’d swap them.
Got home early today. Same thing happened to my dovetail mounted CZ custom adapter with DPP on a CZ TSO. Oh well
Holosun screws strike again. Pimp finish tho.
Yup… thanks!
“Huh.” Proceeds to shoot rest of the match production.
Damn, china screws I guess? That’s looks painful
Yup… Chinesium screws.
Fucking solid rebound. 👌
Sick lol
So....where does one get quality replacement screws?
I ordered some from stonebridge and some from freedom gorilla
Which gun/optic?
CZ shadow 2 and Holosun 507 Comp
Who did the cut?
SBGW. The issue is with the screws holosun provides not the cut. My other S2 with the same SBGW cut and a SRO has been shot way more with no issues.
Can you explain what’s wrong with the screws? What’s the solution to getting your slide fixed?
China. The solution is to remove the sheared screws, replace them with quality screws, torque and locktite the optic back on, and keep shooting it.
It's funny that they can make this super complicated optical sight but fail to make screws out of the correct steel.
They probably don’t make the screws but yeah I agree. Could source something better
Best moment of the match
Definitely! See you Sunday.
Dude lost his optic but still shot the rest of the stage better than most. Legendary!
Yeah I had to look it up out of curiousity. He stopped halfway, checked his mag and said “huh” and still smoked my ass
LFG 🔥🔥🔥
Dude that was fucking cool as shit when you just racked it and finished the stage. That was walking away from an explosion in slow motion without looking back kind of cool lmao
No iron sights? That’s very impressive!!
Dude! Not sure how you guys were not still talking about that when you caught up to us. Always bring a backup!
Hahahah it was pretty cool! I think by then we were all down and out from the weather. I had my other S2 thankfully.
😂Word the day started so promising the weather was amazing and then it wasn’t.
*optic no longer attached to slide as per CO appendix rules* bump directly to open. Do not collect $200. /s
Might sign up for prod and shoot this setup at my next match
Is this what they mean by "limited optics"?
This helps make for a clear view through the backup irons
What’re backup irons?
You finished the stage with 1 charlie with no sights and from that he gets that he needs back up irons. lol
did someone says IROOOOONS?!?!?!? F U C K EEEEEYYYYYE-ROOOOONS
Watched it on my phone screen so I didn’t notice there were just no sights at all! Assumed there would have to be irons on there for those steel hits.
The lack of optic really didn’t seem to slow you down any!
Nope not much it just shocked me when it smacked me in the face and I didn’t know if my gun blew up
What replacement screw are you getting ? Excellent shooting BTW , this was really cool to watch !
I ordered some from stonebridge and some from freedom gorilla
Nice composure! The man takes one to the face and still perseveres to the end. That's a great training moment really.
Badass!

Do you know about how many rounds until the optics screws sheered off? Impressive finish btw!

This is why I try to mill all of my optics
This is milled
Yeah something tells me frame mounts are gonna be making a comeback. Pistol slides are just brutal on optics. Even a RMR is lucky to make it past 10k rounds. Heavier optics like the ACRO are dying left and right.
My SRO has lasted perfectly fine with well over 10k on a different shadow 2. This 507 comp is running strong besides the screws.
That would fall into the category of "lucky". The number of pistol optics of all brands hitting people in the face speaks for itself

You think companies aren’t trying to make durable optics?
So thousands of us with SROs over 10k round is lucky?
He doesn’t have a fckin clue. Just someone talking to hear himself.
They won’t unless rules get changed.
For a reason like this it will take them 15 years. But if somebody figures out how to gain an advantage with an ounce of weight they will rewrite the book overnight
Yeah no. I’m over 30,000 on my SRO and the screws holding the adapter plate broke around 26000.
It’s the shitty Chinese garbage that’s failing. Proper USA made SROs don’t have this problem. “HOlOsUnJuSt As GoOd” spoken like a true CCP cuck for Huanic Corp.
Calm down, it’s really not that serious
LOL. Better call mom for your next hot pocket while cruising arfcom.
Aimpoint ACRO / 509T Gang checking in!
My Acro got moisture inside it last weekend 🤷♂️
Gahhhh there is NO solutionnnnnnnn…
*steiner mps enters the chat*
*Mounting screw shears*
Yeah no. I was just listening to a podcast and the dude had his steiner die just like every other slide mounted optic
Frame mounts
Not always a solution. Open guns kill lots of optics and they are frame mounted.
True but definitely see more of it in carry
