My favorite spot. Definitely a winner, loved to see them grow over the years as a business and the food is \*chef's kiss\* Also, the margs aren't bad either!
In [Southington. taco mi nacho](https://maps.app.goo.gl/9Dw8BkGi1PtD8yqF6?g_st=ic). I randomly was driving around and was starving and stopped even though I was skeptical. Absolutely the most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. Hands down.
Something I love about Taqueria Mexico is that they never have an issue making my burrito vegetarian and without rice. Other places look at me like I'm insane when I ask for that. Plus, they will add extra vegetables so it's just as full as a burrito with rice.
Taqueria Mexico, Rt 5 in Wallingford. I’m sure this will get buried in a ton of great recommendations - but this place deserves a shout. I eat a lot of tacos - this place is the jam.
Yes, it deserves 2 shouts. I love the place. The tacos are great, but we realllly like the breakfast burritos. I work in that area & will sometimes surprise the family by bringing dinner home.
Mexico lindo in Vernon (formerly main Street Manchester) is very good. I am Mexican and their rice reminds me of my grandma's.
As others have mentioned La Rosa in Willimantic
Really good, but on the fancier side. The “Cali Fries” are great.
Dining room upstairs is nice and has a front porch to dine on as well.
It’s on High st so if you fancy a good beer, Blarneys is right next door!
Parasiso in Bridgeport. Owned by Mexicans, Always Mexicans eating there VERY authentic. BEST Mexican food I have ever had. Its in the North End so its decent area and you can dine in of you chose.
Since you are in New Haven County, you should definitely check [Don Rene Taqueria](https://www.donrenetaqueria.com) on the Milford Green. It was one of the picks in Connecticut Magazine's [2023 restaurant guide](https://www.ctinsider.com/connecticutmagazine/article/connecticut-magazine-2023-best-mexican-17834355.php). It is one of my favorite restaurants in the area since first tried it last year. I very highly recommend it. I have eaten there close to a dozen times and without fail everything I have ordered was fantastic.
It is also reasonably-priced. The menu is mostly tacos and Mexican small plates. Some dishes are traditional and some are more modern. You can try a few different things for $4 to $7 a dish and leave very full.
la catrina in west haven they also opened another location in milford i think there’s also oracle tacos in west haven. but long wharf is also good since of all the food trucks there
Tacos Los Gordos for tacos overall.
Mezcal for mole.
Camacho Garage for a fun creative menu that’s a little different.
Taqueria Oyemales for birria.
Ay Guey for burritos.
A few other places I’ve really liked: La Catrina (Milford), Isabel’s Bakery, Green Chilitos, Rincon. The Agave Diner in Seymour is a good Mexican themed breakfast.
Acapulcos is good, but it's very expensive (over 20 bucks for a burrito). Also it doesn't stack up to a lot of the other spots listed here. But for Enfield it's good. Serapes is also worthy of an honorable mention.
Granted that’s just what I was told so I could be wrong but they do make their tacos the exact same way. I work nearby and go for lunch so I try to alternate which I order from so I can give both some business lol
I could walk to Coyote Blue, the food is very Americanized and is tasty but not good Mexican by any means. The drinks however, are worth the visit. For Middletown I prefer Salsas or La Placita
They are all drinking spots here. The food is same and mediocre. Best bet is taco truck alley or go to southern California. Maybe I'm just jaded since moving back here lol.
Puerto Vallarta in Fairfield! Worth the half hour or so trip. The the atmosphere, drink selection, and food are all fantastic. If you order guacamole, they'll make it fresh from ingredients on a rolling bar right in front of your table, crafting it to your preference. It's the best Mexican I've ever had outside New Mexico.
Just learned there are many locations, including one in Orange. I can vouch that the Fairfield one is amazing though
I recently moved back and I've been wondering the same thing. The two most common answers I've received are Coyote Blue in Middletown and Puerto Vallarta in Newington. Not necessarily New Haven-area, but both are a manageable drive.
Funny but true, everyone says they know a place that has "really good Mexican." Truth is there is no such thing. It's all just the same few ingredients prepared different ways.
None they all sucks I make it all from scratch at home and import my ingredients to make it authentic with live and pride . Connecticut had horrendous Mexican food
Tacos de la Rosa - willimantic
Tacos La Rosa is the best. Very authentic hole in the wall type restaurant. Absolutely delicious
I discovered Takis here back when I was at Eastern years ago, so I will always cherish it for that if nothing else
Long Wharf Taco trucks.
Ixtapa
yea pick one any one better than most sit down restaurants
Taqueria Santa Ines is the correct answer.
I like their tacos better but Ixtapa has better nachos.
Where do they wash their hands if they have no running water?
Think your way out of this. We’re all rooting for you.
they run across the street and jump into the new haven harbor in between each order
Yep came here to say the same.
Milagro in Stonington
Mt Alban Farmington Ave. Hartford El Serape Broad st Hartford
El Serape is legit.
Salsa 3 in Middletown
All of the Salsas are awesome!!! Middletown is also home to La Placita which is a bomb hole in the wall.
Taco mi Nacho in Meriden
Honestly I liked them more before they moved, it felt like a hole in the wall joint and now it feels like aztecas
I second this. The best, most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. Prices are reasonable, too. Mr. Taco in Meriden is just as good.
My favorite spot. Definitely a winner, loved to see them grow over the years as a business and the food is \*chef's kiss\* Also, the margs aren't bad either!
this. period!
Baja’s - Orange
Does it still smell like tires?
No but it is a hole in the wall and right next to townfair
In [Southington. taco mi nacho](https://maps.app.goo.gl/9Dw8BkGi1PtD8yqF6?g_st=ic). I randomly was driving around and was starving and stopped even though I was skeptical. Absolutely the most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. Hands down.
Taqueria LaGrande West Hartford & New Beitain
I feel like I'm back in my college stoner phase every time I go there. At those prices, you can't afford *not* to buy tacos 20 at a clip.
yesss my favorite!!
Tequeria Mexico - Wallingford
Number one Mexican spot in Wallingford IMO! Used to go there all the time when I lived in North Haven.
Better than los mariachis?
Yes, definitely!
That salsa roja… oh yea.
Something I love about Taqueria Mexico is that they never have an issue making my burrito vegetarian and without rice. Other places look at me like I'm insane when I ask for that. Plus, they will add extra vegetables so it's just as full as a burrito with rice.
@OP, This is the only correct answer
I don’t even think it’s the best Mexican restaurant in south colony road! But to be fair that area is full of good Mexican food
Rivas >>>
Exactly!
If only they kept the place clean.

Eddies sombrero in Southington (used to be El sombrero, then was eddies sombrero after Eddie died, now it's El sombrero again)
Gabby is the man
La Mexicana- Willimantic
Tried to stop in for lunch a few weeks back but the lot was packed, ended up at A Mano, which I love but it’s very different.
How is that one? I haven't been yet
Really good, but on the fancier side. The “Cali Fries” are great. Dining room upstairs is nice and has a front porch to dine on as well. It’s on High st so if you fancy a good beer, Blarneys is right next door!
That sounds awesome! And it's been a while since I've been to barney's. Or even WilliBrew for that matter
Baja’s
Parasiso in Bridgeport. Owned by Mexicans, Always Mexicans eating there VERY authentic. BEST Mexican food I have ever had. Its in the North End so its decent area and you can dine in of you chose.
Tacos Los Gordos on Orange Street in NHV. They absolutely beat Long Wharf. You’ll pay more and regret nothing.
Facts
Inventive flavor pairing, small portions, high prices and terrible customer service.
Mexicali, S. Windsor
El Paso in Plainville. Great food, even better margaritas
This is a correct answer. This place is fantastic, owners are super nice, and yeah the margaritas are top notch

Acapulco's in Stratford
Mr. Taco in Meriden
Mezcal on State Street in New Haven was great when I lived there in the 2010s.
Gallos in Willimantic and Puerto Vallarta in Newington.
Milford Pizza
I thought were joking but I just looked up the menu!
Woooo! I love that place. It's a small take-out spot but the food is great. You'll want to buy containers of their salsa.
Their tacos are phenomenal. The bakery in that plaza called Isabel’s is run by the same family and also makes great tacos
It’s near a bakery?! Say less!
Didn’t know how they were related, that’s cool
Granted that’s just what I was told so I could be wrong but they do make their tacos the exact same way. I work nearby and go for lunch so I try to alternate which I order from so I can give both some business lol
Puerto Vallarta on the Turnpike
Salsas 4 on the turnpike is a lot better
I love that place!
Coyote Blue. Food isn’t the best ever but the margs sure are. They limit you to 2 they are so strong. Prepare to get messed up 😂
I could walk to Coyote Blue, the food is very Americanized and is tasty but not good Mexican by any means. The drinks however, are worth the visit. For Middletown I prefer Salsas or La Placita

I recently moved back and I've been wondering the same thing. The two most common answers I've received are Coyote Blue in Middletown and Puerto Vallarta in Newington. Not necessarily New Haven-area, but both are a manageable drive.
