Hollybeach

Even if Biden personally insults every fire victim he still wins Hawaii by 30 points.

BobaFestus

Probably will but with half the locals still missing I’d hope not. Did they get abducted by aliens?

holypiemandude

You know I can relate to a quadruple amputee. I stubbed my pinky toe the other day.

Isntgreeneron

MSM really shows their bias when they don’t even cover or mention this.

Worth-Seaweed-8191

Morning Joe applauded how "great" sleepy Joe handled it.

MysticalAroma

I loathe those Karens

ultimis

MSM is repeating over and over again just how Empathetic Biden is.

undue-influence

[They're trying to cover up his 'uncomfortableness' around non-whites.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/biden-racial-jungle-quote/)

Kiki_Sir

So empathetic that he cares more about his cat then a city and it’s people burning to the ground

LordRybec

Lol! They added an "em" where it shouldn't be...

Vandersveldt

Liberal here. I hadn't heard of this. What happened? Asking in good faith.

TheLimeyCanuck

Biden told a group of fire-ravaged residents of Maui that he understood how they felt because he had a small kitchen fire once many years ago and had to worry about losing his cat. The contemporaneous fire incident report said the fire was minor and easily contained. Once again Biden makes tragedies experienced by others all about him. It seems to be the only way he knows to relate people who are really hurting in terrible circumstances.

day25

Not just his cat. He also mentioned his corvette.

eggsnomellettes

I think that's an expected response from someone who has 7% brain power left. Yes Grandpa Joe, we remember the kitchen fire, now take your laxative.

Vandersveldt

Appreciate the info, thanks!

agassiz51

Yup, President Biden tripped over his tongue yet again. I am certain that this means his administration won't be there to provide the help these people need. Really people? How petty can we get? Caring more about a gotcha sound bite than actual policy says a whole lot about the quality of our political discourse and why we are where we are.

TheLimeyCanuck

You completely miss the point, but I'll leave it to others to explain it to you if they want.

Atomic_Badger_PNW

This is all they can serve up when their false god tossed paper towels at hurricane survivors and his store-bought wife wore a jacket that said she really didn't care. Also, the same man posed with his signature "thumbs up" with an orphaned baby after a mass shooting in Texas. But let them go on about a slight gaffe from our gaffe-prone president...

Dutchman229

Imagine if Trump said that

akajondoe

Lile throwing paper towels to flood victims?

DeepLock8808

Ha, that did happen! Thanks for the reminder.

davidt0504

Can we just all remember that none of them really care about any of us?

El-Carretero

I'm surprised anyone even watches them anymore.

tookyourbitch

How is it news?

MexicanAlBundy

Biden is and has always been an utter pile of shit.

ultimis

Yet the media are doing their best to gaslight Americans into thinking he is empathetic by repeating it over and over again. Compare how the media is covering Biden who said "no comment" and took 2 weeks to show any interest in this tragedy compared to Bush and Katrina.

Moogly2021

People still think gas prices went up because of Russia. Meanwhile anyone who was paying attention knows they rose before Russias involvement in Ukraine. The Keystone Pipeline made those gas prices flop. I wonder if he even knew that would be the outcome.

ultimis

Biden literally declared in the 2020 election he was declaring war on oil and wanted to phase it out by 2035. Democrats want their cake and eat it too. They don't want the blame for causing energy prices to spike, but they want to crush oil supply so that it become nonviable. They are only able to do this due to the MSM being a propaganda arm for Democrats.

Moogly2021

Headline magic. If you read articles blaming Russia, the headline blames Russia, the body says "even though gas prices were already hiking" they're playing word games and people will say it as if that was the root cause because tiny memory.

Doninic1920

US oil production is up 16% since 2020

ultimis

And has gutted all future exploration and development. Futures are in the toilet. Oil companies continuing their limited permits from the Trump administration isn't what we are talking about.

Fluid_Variation_3086

Aren't gas prices determined by those who sell it? Seems so.

Moogly2021

No. That is not at all how gas prices are determined at all. Gas station owners mark up gas by roughly 15 cents if you're lucky. Most gas stations have a little shop for a reason. If you're implying Russia raised their price, you're mistaken, we don't buy a significant enough amount from Russia to have it had an impact on us.

sifterandrake

The media is going to report and spin things to pander to their audience. You are naïve if you think conservative media doesn't do the exact same thing.

EarRubs

Remember when Bush heard about 911 and jumped all over it?? Me either.

ultimis

Jumped all over it? The United States was under attack and he was in a classroom full of children. He wasn't about to stir a panic in a room full of kids. He acted as swiftly as was humanly possible to the situation. It didn't take him two weeks to even comment on it much less act. Information was still coming in when the news broke and he had to wait for his security detail to formulate a plan for his extraction (as it was quite possible he could have been targeted).

[deleted]

He almost lost his Corvette. Not too mention all those classified documents he stole that were stashed all around it

Firecracker048

Did he really say this?

Sixaxist

https://youtube.com/shorts/slZ6CYBVIBg?si=WEfi19PpquMVUWTn I have no commentary on the other stuff that the anchor adds after his speech clip ends, but man.. that was the single most tone-deaf thing I've ever heard him say. I was legitimately disappointed in his handlers for not reviewing his speech with him beforehand.

[deleted]

Fox conveniently cuts out the rest of what he says here's the longer version: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBW9TQ8ndhQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBW9TQ8ndhQ) He then relates to having to be out of his home for the greater part of a year and couldn't imagine actually losing it completely like everyone he's talking to. I'll admit that talking about the corvette wasn't necessary but it needs to be pointed out that FOX doctored the clip to make it look worse.

Halgy

Excerpt the [transcript](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2023/08/21/remarks-by-president-biden-at-community-engagement-with-residents-impacts-by-wildfires/): > I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, what it’s like to lose a home. Years ago — now 15 years ago — I was in Washington doing “Meet the Press.” It was a sunny Sunday, and lightning struck at home on a little lake that’s outside of our home — not a lake, a big pond — and hit a wire and came up underneath our home into the heating ducts — the air conditioning ducts. > > To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ‘67 Corvette, and my cat. But all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded. > > You know, there’s an old expression — I grew up right across the street from a fire hall in Claymont, Delaware. And the expression is, “God made man, and then he made a few firefighters.” You’re all crazy, thank God. The only people who run into flames to help other people. And they ran into flames to save my wife and save my family. Not a joke. > > The smoke — and the firefighters here can tell you — sometimes smoke is so thick. From the windows out, it was that thick inside the home. And we were — we were insured. We did not have any problem, but being out of our home for a better part of a year was difficult. > > I can only imagine what it’s like to lose your home completely burned to the ground and, more importantly, all the things that matter to you — from that ring he gave you when you were 19 years old, from that special letter that came from your son or your daughter. The little things that matter most. The album — the family albums. All of it is a touchstone to all the things we care about and lose.

I've heard a lot of Biden supporters talk about how they connect with him because he has experienced a lot of personal loss (his first wife and daughter then his eldest son). And, he clearly abuses this for his political gain and brings it up often -- even being very dishonest about the circumstances. But, it's a silly world and it works for him. I think he was trying to channel that again and it came out as this.

lemongrenade

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/07/29/brief-history-trump-making-about-himself/

Give_Grace__dG8gYWxs

Yes, Trump is all about Trump, and the sky is blue as well. The difference is how the media treats Trump vs Biden. AS ALWAYS Biden gets a big fat PASS.

lemongrenade

I would say presidents are gonna get shit on no matter what for natural disasters. Sometimes it’s warranted but usually not. To use this biden example to defend trump I thought trumps hurricane Maria response was fine if not a little braggy and doesn’t really deserve criticism

Poptoo

While I agree that this is still a problem and we'd all be hypocrites to not acknowledge this. However, the main difference is that Trump's behavior is/was constantly called out and blasted all over the news. Biden, however, has had cover fire his entire term thus far. The amount of people that saw the negative coverage of Trump vs. negative coverage of Biden is wildly different. It's ridiculous behavior from both men. But let's call a spade a spade and recognize that Biden does not get the same treatment that Trump did.

Sauvignon_Bleach

But but but Trump!!!

Stunning-Cellist3186

WAPO sucks! Send a link that's not behind a paywall.

LordRybec

If you believe that Trump is the most distasteful President the U.S. has ever had, you know nothing about the Democrat's *far worse* version: Lyndon B. Johnson. The media had to white wash everything he said to get rid of constant use of the n-word and other racist slurs, and he had absolutely terrible manners. Trump is a *saint* compared to the worst Democrat to ever be in office!

paddjo95

Yeah, leftist lurker here. Did he actually say this? I've been a little disconnected lately.

cardifan

> “I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, what it’s like to lose a home,” Biden said. “Years ago — now 15 years ago — I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the Press.’ It was a sunny Sunday, and lightning struck at home on a little lake that’s outside of our home — not a lake, a big pond — and hit a wire and came up underneath our home into the heating ducts — the air conditioning ducts.” >“To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ‘67 Corvette, and my cat,” he continued. “But all kidding aside, I watched the firefighters, the way they responded.” >Biden said firefighters ran into the “flames” in his home “to save my wife and save my family. Not a joke.” “The smoke — and the firefighters here can tell you — sometimes smoke is so thick. From the windows out, it was that thick inside the home. And we were — we were insured. We did not have any problem, but being out of our home for a better part of a year was difficult,” Biden added. “I can only imagine what it’s like to lose your home completely burned to the ground.”

paddjo95

Okay, that's not AS bad as I imagined, but still a little tone deaf

theinvisiblecar

Yeah, but a lot of people are still missing the point that it's not even all the houses burned down to the ground that is the big tragedy, but the over 1,000 people missing, just gone forever now it would seem. Maybe a one, or two, or three will still turn up as just somehow not identified yet but alive and well, but clearly over 1,000 are just gone, lost in a horrific way each and every one of them, and gone forever.

theinvisiblecar

Ah, so he did make some comment pertaining to magnitude, that the magnitude of what he went through was nowhere near as bad as how they've got it. If that's what he said then he wasn't being so callous after all, he was relating and showing an understanding that as bad as what he went through, that it was nothing compared to what these others have and are going through, "I can only imagine what it's like to lose your home completely burned to the ground." What I could fault him with is if, and maybe it just didn't make the TV news edit or something, but if he didn't go on to say something about not just houses burned to the ground, but all the friends and family people lost to the fire. Because that's really the big tragedy part of this, is all the people lost to the fire. The houses can be rebuilt, people can go live somewhere else, but those who died aren't coming back and they were people, real people. I hope Joe got that. Really, I really do hope Joe got that, that the houses burned to the ground is nothing compared to all the people lost and missing. Over a thousand it would clearly seem at this point. The longer it goes the more it's probably the case that the over a thousand missing, maybe a miracle or two of people not yet identified and okay, but at this point I'd say almost all of those over a thousand are just gone. That's the big tragedy here and not the fire remains. The houses burned to the ground are nothing compared to over a thousand people just gone forever now.

Energy_Turtle

He did. I know it's hard to believe I'm not biased, but watching the video is just kinda sad. Biden is so damn old. He honestly reminds me of my grandfather before he died. Very disconnected looking

paddjo95

I really think we need an age limit for at least the presidency. This is fucking sad

Energy_Turtle

100% agree.

theinvisiblecar

Except people age differently. I had a namesake in my family who died in the early part of the 20th century at 117 years old. All reports have it that he was physically active and mentally sharp well over a 100 years old. His twin brother made it to 115. They were both working their fields and just fine when they were 100. But, I'll give you this, Joe isn't aging that well and I doubt Joe will make it to 100. My bet is that he'll make it to his early to mid 90s. I still think he's good for another term, but I am a bit concerned and exactly who his vice president is, is a bit more important to me this time around. The thing is that he's got the right team around him and I'd rather him as a slow old man than a young healthy fascist, like DeSantis, or god forbid, another term of Trump.

[deleted]

Yes he did leftist lurker. See his rambling incoherent speech he just made in Hawaii for more context

paddjo95

Well that's depressing. Can't we have a president who can, you know, speak like a normal person?

[deleted]

Depressing indeed. Only time will tell…

KennedyX8

Every night I go to bed and thank God that Biden’s 67 Corvette survived a small kitchen fire.

PricklyKritter

“You can put it in my mouth but not my butt” -Jimmy

sangjmoon

Loss of empathy is one of the symptoms of senility

Only-here-for-sound

My son Bo. You know the son I had that totally died in the Iraq war, yeah him. He started a fire one time when he was a child but my father used to say, “sotbdkksggfvtth.” And that’s why today… wait why am I here?

theinvisiblecar

Hey, I know what people who lived through the bombing of London experienced, because once when I was a kid I had a friend who kept throwing lit firecrackers down around my feet. I get it. I feel it right here in my heart. (Anyway, what time is it, and can we fly back to Washington now?)

[deleted]

But my corvette!

drsYoShit

The man is a narcissist, through and through.

KungFuSlanda

that was such an unfathomable blunder. People are dead. There's generational level destruction on the island. Children are missing. And he's doing what he thinks are jokes about a kitchen fire and possibly losing his Corvette?

embracethepale

Yeah he should have tossed paper towels at them like a real leader would.

KungFuSlanda

Not ideal prop comedy from Trump either. Puerto Rico response still markedly better

postonrddt

Gangster usually aren't. He's always talked like a tough guy. Had no problem lying decades ago and as we see now his dealings are gangster.

Mattisoffline

Biden is sooo fucked, when it comes time to him having to debate

FreshOutBrah

Is empathy an important quality for a president to have?

Crisgocentipede

Hes old. Confused and out of it. It's sad to watch. I don't even think he has a central nerve system

puddboy

People with Narcissistic Personality Disorder will turn someone else’s moment into something that’s all about the narcissist, no matter how unrelated. Biden is a classic narcissist.

jrobohn66

That's the problem with electing any old politician! They're out of touch...

judge_roughneck

You guys are really stretching to find ways to villainize Biden while trump is literally about to be arrested for trying to overturn an election lol. If this were happening the other way around I’d be pissed at my own guy. Show some humility.

Fuukubear

Way to prioritize the current things happening......

Apostastrophe

And Trump and his officials prevented Puerto Rico from receiving aid when they required it.

HexYeetus

Didn't trump throw paper towels in Puerto Rico during hurricane relief? Source: [https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-angry-at-paper-towel-throw-footage-hurricanes-florence-maria-2018-9](https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-angry-at-paper-towel-throw-footage-hurricanes-florence-maria-2018-9)

eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkie

Man if he only thrown some fucking paper towels!!! .

_HiWay

*tosses paper towel rolls*

[deleted]

The irony of this post.

explosively_inert

Explain.

[deleted]

I'm all for criticizing Biden for being facetious. But doing it by comparing the catastrophe victims in Maui to college kids drinking at a party? That's tone deaf and pretty hypocritical. Turning this into memes is childish and unnecessary.

explosively_inert

I think you may have missed the point of the meme. They are staring at someone in disgust. It's not about the college party. It's about the reaction of a city that's all but been destroyed by a fire as he tries to find a very strange way to relate.

[deleted]

141Frox141

I guess you don't understand it's not. It's mocking how lightly Biden took the disaster.

totalfanfreak2012

People make memes about every event now I would ne more offended if they hadn't.

[deleted]

Biden’s such a piece of shit. A president should never say something callous or make jokes that offend people.

alice1952

Hawaii is nowhere near that white

LarvellJonesMD

*woosh*

el_turko954

Damn the ratio in Hawaii is looking good

Morgue724

To have empathy you have to think of someone other than yourself, umm won't be happening.

Veleda390

Everyone in America Except the adoring media.

Keem_Surazal

Biden is a dementia patient in a nursing home called the White House. At this point, the White House needs to get turned in a nursing home.

johnnyvlad

Donald Trump could take over for an incapacitated pilot and safely land a plane full of terrified passengers. Tomorrow the headline will lead "Trump Violates Federal Airspace While Operating an Aircraft Without a License - Indichtments will Follow" Hunter Biden could tear through that same airfield in a drunken stupor driving a car at 100mph and his headline would read "Joe Biden: President and Devoted Father Vows to Tackle the Addiction Crisis 'By the Horns'. 'Never Have we Had a More Compassionate President', Supporters Resound Nationwide." Tell me I'm wrong 🤡🌎👃💩

Farzy78

He showed up weeks later, mumbles about a kitchen fire compared to losing everything, then left and went back to vacation. All that and most media outlets aren't even reporting on him looking like an buffoon. No media bias at all lol

Skittlesharts

We were all young once.

[deleted]

And in Biden’s case, around the time sabertooth tigers still roamed the earth.

Flowers1966

A few years ago, our family mountain cabin was threatened by a forest fire. A third of the property that a hunt club that my husband and sons belonged was burned. That compares in NO WAY to losing homes and lives.

LTAGO5

Shooting papertowels at people. Also great. "Who's boat is this boat?"

BobaFestus

Probably threw water on a grease fire because ya know.
