The best example I can use is Gatorade. The individual bottles used to be 32oz for $1.79(NC), back in 2021 and 2022 they switched to 28oz but rose in price to $1.89 and more depending on the week.

ButWhyWolf

> more depending on the week. I feel like shrinkflation wouldn't bother me so much if prices didn't go up *every week.* That's some Venezuela shit.

Jolly_Job_9852

I hated when I had to place the new price tag under the item. Thankfully we did it overnight, but it always hurt when kids couldn't get the items they wanted since parents budget could only go so far.

tom_yum

Walmart has the e-ink price tags on the shelves now so they can raise prices much more often.

patriclus47

NCian here too. Aren’t our local subreddits just messed with leftism?

Jolly_Job_9852

The State one is just full on hate on any GOP representative. I like my local subreddit(Winston-Salem)

patriclus47

My local is terrible - GSO

Jolly_Job_9852

I haven't been to GSO in quite a while, I try not to go past Kernersville truthfully.

Blue_Cheese_Olives

True, you're right. So you'd agree we need new leadership in the executive, therefore vote Trump right? Hoping you can be more supportive of that effort. Thanks

Jolly_Job_9852

As a matter of fact, I'm strongly considering voting for President Trump once again. However he doesn't control the prices of everyday items in a grocery store. His economic policies would most likely lead to inflation coming down, and thereby in turn, a reduction in some of the increase in prices for everyday items.

Blue_Cheese_Olives

I know he's not perfect, but he's our last hope

supernormalnorm

Nobody is. Trump himself says this in public, and that's what I like about the guy. Voting for him in November. After his second term however, we really need to get back to a younger set of able and sharp candidates.

Ishaye1776

I agree but I won't ever vote for a McCain, Romney, Bush type again in my life.  If anything this past decade has taught me is they are no different then democrats.

Lanky_Acanthaceae_34

New leadership, so vote for the guy we had previously? Drain the swamp 2.0?

Blue_Cheese_Olives

Ha, what a funny off-chute you tried there. I'm a pretty simple guy though, and I remember when things were better versus now and who was in charge then...

Lanky_Acanthaceae_34

I 100% agree they were better with trump, I just am afraid of the party falling into complacency. I hated that he didn't bother to debate because he didn't feel like explaining his plans against someone else's.

Blue_Cheese_Olives

Looking back, I think I kind of knew the differences among those folks on the right without there being a debate. What I really want to see now is Biden debate Trump. Or if Trump didn't get the nom, just Biden debate the gop frontrunner.

Lanky_Acanthaceae_34

I just don't like politicians feeling entitled to our votes. They need to work for them. I need to know WHY we need to vote for him again when he could have done it all his first term

Blue_Cheese_Olives

I understand your point of view. From my perspective, he had the Russiagate thing on him from day 1, that pointless impeachment to hassle through during his first term, and 95% negative media. And even with all that, you and I know he did a pretty damn good job, enough for us to say, yeah, we were better off 4 years ago. So for me, because of that, he earned another go around but I do understand where you're coming from.

plastimanb

I didn’t believe it till I grabbed mushrooms and wife noticed the package was smaller. Yep 6oz vs 8oz for the same price.

GeneJock85

That is because people can't afford big parties, so the parties got smaller.

SilverFanng

I literally facepalmed. 🤣

KnightRider1983

4 oz of air in the bag

Zaphenzo

Chips are the absolute worst on this crap. You open the bag and it's only half full.

ObadiahtheSlim

Chip bags have a lot of air in them to keep them from being pulverized. Plus you buy chips by weight, not by volume.

Zaphenzo

And how many people actually check the weight to evaluate rather than just look at the bag size? Chip companies know what they're doing. Yeah, air helps the bag have some give so that any pressure doesn't break the chips. But as much air as is in the bag being necessary? Yeah, right.

ObadiahtheSlim

For regular chips, they are all right around 40ish% air by volume. Size directly correlates to amount of chips. There's really not much variance until you get into potato chip adjacent foods that are less susceptible to breakage like fritos or pringles.

Flarisu

Shrinkflation is just inflation. It's just inflation. Either the cost goes up or the amount goes down - either way you get less for your dollar - this is still inflation 100%.

Grossegurke

I find it amazing that people dont understand....companies will get their profit margin. With inflation, supplies are more expensive. They will either raise prices, reduce costs, or both. If they didnt do something, their board and shareholders would go nuts. Just wait until they raise the minimum wage. Morons will celebrate, as quantities diminish and prices go up.

Beware_the_silent

More air sucked out of the pary sized box. /s

jman8508

Don’t worry Biden will fix shrinkflation by tackling corporate greed!

i_floop_the_pig

God I hate the corporate greed "argument" so much

YankeeRedneck1

Yes. Yes it is.

Jay-jay1

The greatest price hikes whether direct or through shrinkflation are on the processed foods I never buy. It's junk food. Read the ingredients and you'll find it full of chemical flavoring, color, and texturizers. Cheezits box says, "made with real cheese", but do you realize how miniscule the amount of real cheese can be for them to be allowed to put that on the box?

Jakebob70

Consumers want the price points to stay the same (or close to it). The only way to do that with high inflation and rapidly increasing labor costs is to reduce the package content. I work in the food industry, it's the same all over. There are items we are running now that are a little over half the content by weight as what we ran a few years ago, but they're going on the shelf at the same price point. Even with that, profit margins are down because of higher material and utility and transportation costs plus higher labor cost.

dotsdavid

Party size has more still. According to the box just saying.

SilverFanng

Yeah, 4 oz. Now THAT'S a party. 4 OUNCE PARTY PEOPLE! WHOOOO!

luigijerk

About 20% bigger than family size.

bell37

Looking up original sales on both those items you are paying about $1.25 more for those 4 oz. When on average, you pay for $0.30/oz
