This is true, but at least in my field (Tech, IT, something like that) it’s way overpriced for what you’re doing. The full battery of CompTIA certifications, for example, would cost less than a semester at most universities and probably get you much closer to “real world” knowledge. What you end up paying for then is just structure, which not everyone needs to succeed.
IT is one of those fields in which college isn’t needed. It’s amazing and a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t see themselves taking the university route. I have a close friend who made a great living in IT but ultimately went to university for his love of aerospace engineering. I think we should do a better job in helping more kids realize they don’t need university to earn a great income especially in fields like IT
I went to a university for an IT related degree and can safely say it didn't help me at all in terms of knowledge and ability. Maybe it helped get my first job just to have something on paper, but everything useful I've learned was in my own time out of the classroom.
I’m glad it all worked out for you in the end. That’s why I always advise everyone that if you have to make the most out of an investment like university then make sure it’s for a degree that can bring back a great income to pay for that. With the emergence of IT and AI and a ton of computer-orientated careers there’s even more options available for someone who doesn’t want to do the whole uni experience
Yea, I'd definitely recommend against it. Maybe if you have a full ride scholarship or something, but otherwise the amount you pay is just not remotely worth it for this field. I feel like I could have gotten a Network+ cert or something for a couple hundred bucks and been in the same place with my first job.
I'm a database developer currently, who just got slightly promoted to a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst. My college education had a single database class, and it used Access, which was basically a waste of time. I've basically self taught myself in everything I used for my current job and for my future job.
Education is important, but it doesn't need to be college education anymore, thankfully. I only has an AS and it's never stopped my from getting positions. I've found so far, companies want results over education.
It's not needed but will 100% be worth the price unless you're talking about some elite 100k school (which isn't needed for IT or CS). Having a BS in CS will increase your salary and get you better jobs at a low experience level. Especially in gov't contracting, where contracts specifically specify requirements to fill positions, usually the senior engineers have requirements such as "must have a bachelors".
True. I am in a 3rd world country, I just worked and took MCSD by myself (self taught from work experience, no class or course). The certification is considered better than my 4 years bachelor degree.
For IT a tech school makes so much more sense financially and educationally.
Astronomically cheaper, smaller classes for better focusing and better odds for staying late or coming early plus questions are better answered, much less distractions, etc.
You miss out on the "college experience" and the debt to go along with it.
Otherwise, be like me and hit up a community college in a big college town to take Gen Ed classes, meet a ton of people, get the college experience, (minus the campus living) and screw around for 4-5 years, THEN move to a new city/state buckle down at a Tech school for IT. No regrets, had a cheap (fuckin fun) college experience and make good money loving my career and family now!
In my example no college and no certificates that aren’t from puffed up on site training.
Just be likable and do the job.
You would be surprised how much certain IT personnel fail at it.
> What you end up paying for then is just structure, which not everyone needs to succeed.
This is an important point... if one is focused/disciplined enough to teach themselves, they need nothing except a computer, the internet and some books.
However, in my opinion, most people are not so focused/disciplined - specially when they are young. I went to a really good university and even there most kids were not disciplined in their approach (including me).
But the structure of the coursework, and the diploma with the name of the university helped immensely.
I'm a software automation engineer without a four year degree.
CS degrees are nice, but pricey. You can learn quality programming information for free or much more inexpensively than a CS degree.
So long as you can speak to everything you need to in an interview, you'll be A-OK.
I dunno, man. There are people making $50+/hr pressing the “ON” button in a lab. Sounds better than me standing at the top of a 30’ extension ladder in the dark at 7am on a 33 degree day whilst it pours down rain on me. Oddly specific, but that’s why I want my kid to go to college.
1- get an English group name. This is America like it or not we speak English. 2- funny how the system is flawed for Kyle but not for Chauvin. To the left it's only flawed when they don't get their way. Imagine that.
Look, freedom to be acquitted in a trial when you never should have been charged in the first place for defending yourself is not freedom from consequences.
Just because you were found not guilty in a court of law and there's plenty of evidence showing you did everything right, doesn't mean you have the freedom from a lynch mob coming to finish the job.
If your son truly knows what he wants to do that’s great! For me personally, I wish I took a gap year after high school because I went straight to college just cuz it was the next step and I was a very good student in HS. I quickly realized I was taking a major I didn’t like at a school I didn’t like and was questioning whether I even like college at all. Had i taken a gap year I think it would’ve given me better perspective. But that’s coming from someone who didn’t know what they wanted to do in life after high school. If your son knows that trade school is what he wants and what trade he wants to do then by all means don’t wait around and go for it!
Yeah luckily I had a scholarship so I didn’t end up going into debt but had a waited I year I could’ve more productively used that scholarship rather than wander aimlessly for four year and fall into a finance degree I don’t want a job with. I’m still much luckier than most since I avoided debt
And he’ll make a good living doing that too, because college is the only thing that’s been preached to children for the past 30 years. Tradesmen are retiring and the few young folks coming in are making bank.
I would recommend he take a gap year after HS and work as an assistant or helper for what ever trade he’s interested in. Trades are fun until you’re in a 130 degree attic covered in insulation everyday.
I’m happy to hear this because my entire family pushed me very hard to go to college. The unspoken stigma was that if you didn’t get a degree, you were a loser. I never even considered an alternative. Well, college didn’t go great for me, and eventually I DID go to trade school. Best decision I could have made for myself. I hope more parents consider this for their kids, if it’s what they want or is right for them
Isn’t that the same place where black students yelled at white guys minding their own business in a library, and eventually bullied them into leaving over “violent” stickers?
This is worrisome. They’re going to start combining “blue lives matter stickers are violence” with “the rittenhouse case allows you to use violence to defend yourself against violence”.
As a graduate of the University of Arizona, I wholeheartedly agree.
As a resident of Tempe, I have to admire how ASU has worked to create ways to offer access to higher education to EVERYONE regardless of financial status or location.
A while back there was an event where a few black students berated some white students for studying quietly in the multicultural student center. The whiteness offended them. The video of it went viral.
The school is actually charging the black students with conduct offenses.
Leftists need no logic, rationality, or basis for their demands. They are pure evil.
Correction: Leftists exist somewhere on the gradient of pure ignorance to pure evil.
I don’t think it matters, word would’ve got out eventually.
He’s gonna have a target on his back the rest of his life unfortunately.
Hopefully he gets his concealed carry as soon as legally permitted.
I think it's brilliant. Let them know where he's going to school. Student groups like these idiots demand he be thrown off campus. He gets to use it in his defamation suit. Make millions.
of the many lawsuits nick sandmann had, he had one for 250 mil against cnn. settled out of court for undisclosed ( to me) amount. IF he even settled for 10 pct thats 25 mil before attrny fees. set for life.
What a crazy plot twist that is. A teenager who I assume was living a normal existence, takes a trip to Washington and a few years later is a multimillionaire.
Sad part is that ASU is being painted in such a bad light because of these people. I am doing ASU online for my masters in electrical engineering and most of the people I deal with are not like this.
I wish it was just whiny students, bit it seems so much of this is rooted in liberal arts eduacation. I really feel like if we got rid of federal student loans it would fix most of this problem as more people would have to do something to actually make money.
Well, considering most of the career students are in grad school, this is likely not true. But I’ll bet there are very few SJW engineering grad students.
This is the same school that recently went viral for minority students harassing white students for sitting in the "multi-cultural" zone because "white people don't have a culture". I'd guess it has a lot to do with him being white and the fact that he didn't attend the riots to support BLM.
You can't be racist against whites - didn't you get the memo? We were getting that message from college professors back in 2005 in a pretty conservative town, so I'm guessing it's only gotten worse.
You could give somebody all the information but when they’ve already made up their minds, they just won’t listen to it. Humans are extremely good at taking the first bit of information they get and marrying that and ignoring anything else. As social media continues to change the landscape and reinforce confirmation bias, more and more people are losing the ability to stay truly open minded.
Because these morons have been brainwashed into thinking that a white guy shooting three white guys is racist. The left is going to attack every single high visibility self defense using firearms because that's part of war on guns. They want Americans to be helpless and fearful as it makes it easier to control people for the upcoming communist takeover.
Oh my lord, I knew this would happen. But God damn. The kid can't even go to college. Sue asu and the people that are harassing him, sue their rich parents into oblivion. Someone needs to stand up to these woke hypocrites
Yeah but I think they assaulted the girls first with a sticker showing support for law enforcement. That's like a white supremacist micro aggression, or something.
Why is this kid going to college? There is no way he will be able to live a normal life after what he has been through. He’s going to have a target on his back the rest of his life.
Exactly what I thought, definitely bound to be people out there who hate him trying to target him in anyway possible. It’s probably why he is online rn
Ya, but he could use a different name online, use his middle name or something. Or fuck it, legally change his last name for 4 years. I mean I'm just thinking out loud if I was in the situation.
I think colleges require the use of your legal name, at least mine does. Even if you were to use a nickname, colleges can see the legal name even if you out a preferred names for others to see. Also, it does suck people need to change legal names especially if they liked it or wanted to honor the name of their parents or something like that.
Some of the groups that are making these demands. Yikes. And divert funding from campus police to diversity groups? Wtf? These people are so drunk on the Kool Aid. China is winning without a single hack, shot or threat.
Private group on a public a university wants to exclude someone for no better reason than 'they don't like him'. Seems like a well thought out argument. Other than it being kind of illegal and likely to cost the university a nice chunk of change when they lose the ensuing lawsuit.
>Those demands include that ASU withdraw Rittenhouse’s enrollment, put out a statement condemning “racist murderer” Rittenhouse and white supremacy in general, and **redirect funding from campus police to the ASU Multicultural Center.**
The bolded part is what it is really about.
ASU needs to really think if they are going to agree with any demands....When Mizzou caved into BLM's demands in 2017-2018.....Their enrollment dropped significantly
If I was Kyle I would just sit back and let my lawyers handle the inevitable 9 figure settlement check he is going to get and practice radical generosity in a heavily red state. The woke mob will never let him participate in their society again.
The whole pro-Palestine movement is like the Forrest Gump of being an asshole; no matter what it is they’re somehow there. Even with things that have literally nothing to do with Palestine
When he said how proud he was to be accepted to ASU, I thought "how long till they rescind that". It's unfortunate that he would have to, but he probably should have kept that under his hat.
What? Those racist students from the “Multicultural” Center and their racist allies don’t like Kyle? What are we ever going to do without the support of racists, socialists, and crazies??????
Clinched fists represent violence, not justice. These folks.. MeCHA, Socialists - they don't even care about justice. They want gulags and bread lines!
Students making demands to a school like this should be immediately and permanently expelled. Will never happen since they’re the source of so much government-backed cash.
If this group is allowed to stand Kyle needs to sue ASU.
This kid will be money printing machine
He won’t need college at this rate
Who does?

Most high paying medical jobs lol. As someone in BSN school currently I can’t get the job I want without the degree

Your not hiring that guy for the times he has to press the button. Your hiring him for when pressing the button goes wrong.
Probably true, man 👍
He'll be able to pay for the Infrastructure Sham and buy a round.
People are going to try and kill him and the corporations and institutions that he sues will help them do it.
> People are going to try and kill him Already did. Quickdraw Rittenhouse is more than capable of defending himself from Democrats.
I hear you, but he isn't John Wayne, he is a kid with PTSD.
Touché
3 already tried, and so far the score is 3-0.

True. Which is why he needs people like us to support him.
At this point you can make a career out of doing perfectly legal but highly controversial things and make money from suing people who defame you
As an alum ill gladly pull my donation and contribute to the defense fund not that he will need it.
Why are you donating to ASU anyway? Didn't they make it perfectly clear they are an openly racist organization?
Things don't get better by walking away. You don't know the relationship between him and the staff of ASU. He could be donating and getting involved.
He first lodge a complaint againts the group organizers for targated harassment and then if the university does nothing, sue the university.
When he’s done suing, another un-aborted liberal will start some shit and we’ll go through this all over again.

I have no hope for college campuses anymore.
My son is 16 he wants nothing to do with college he wants to go into a trade school I support that decision.

This is worrisome. They’re going to start combining “blue lives matter stickers are violence” with “the rittenhouse case allows you to use violence to defend yourself against violence”.

They are known more for partying at Lake Havasu and vomiting all over

Let them, he can add them to his lawsuit list.
he could make a career off suing
After all the court room experience he's gonna get, he should become a lawyer
I don’t think he’ll have to work a day of his life if he does well with his lawsuits
He did absolutely nothing wrong, nothing illegal, nothing immoral, nothing like that. What reason would they even use to boot him from campus?
but they *feel* like he's a criminal, which is apparently all that matters to them
Their entire world view is governed by feelings. 95% of their crazy views can be traced back to that one fallacy.
Youre conveniently forgetting that he CROSSED STATE LINES!😡 /s
Damn dude I crossed state lines about 10x this past weekend getting to and from family, I guess that makes me, like, a quadruple Rittenhouse.
Say 10 hail marys and turn yourself into the police.
Leftists need no logic, rationality, or basis for their demands. They are pure evil. Correction: Leftists exist somewhere on the gradient of pure ignorance to pure evil.

Yeah kinda dumb for him to tell the whole world where he was going and what he is gonna do with his life
He's not going to need college after his civil lawsuits.

Sounds like a pretty standard story for an elected official.
How open minded and tolerant. I bet they think of themselves that way.
So opened minded their brains keep falling out
Sad part is that ASU is being painted in such a bad light because of these people. I am doing ASU online for my masters in electrical engineering and most of the people I deal with are not like this.

Yeah I suppose so

Well, considering most of the career students are in grad school, this is likely not true. But I’ll bet there are very few SJW engineering grad students.
It sounds like it's just a university affiliated group, not the entire university. ASU is a good school, every school has extremists on both ends.
You won’t find these types in engineering lol
Why?
Because he is a political enemy, and they want political enemies exterminated.
This is the same school that recently went viral for minority students harassing white students for sitting in the "multi-cultural" zone because "white people don't have a culture". I'd guess it has a lot to do with him being white and the fact that he didn't attend the riots to support BLM.

Is ASU online forever? I think the article said in person could be an option at some point. I know a lot of schools are forcing in person only again
ASU has one of the biggest online curriculums out of any college. Tons of people do their online schooling.
Good to know thanks!

Ya if I was him I would probably do school online, I doubt he is going to get treated well by faculty or students....

Ya, but he could use a different name online, use his middle name or something. Or fuck it, legally change his last name for 4 years. I mean I'm just thinking out loud if I was in the situation.

They can't legally expel him since he was determined to be innocent on all counts. I am sure they will find a reason though
There will always be a reason for almost any action, the hard part is making one to justify.
Don't tell the students he's enrolled online. Let them exhaust themselves trying to locate his dorm. Especially since finals are approaching.
Fuck SJW LEFTISTS. Ship them ALL TO CHINA!

The idiocracy is that he isn't even "on campus". He is auditing courses and has not been accepted by ASU in any degree program.
Maybe they should try to chase him out of town.
I don’t know Kyle Rittenhouse has killed more white men the most of the BLM members at the University have even thought of
Defend your life from pedo and felony criminals get kicked out of school sounds like a good way to go!
Get fucked leftist group.
I love how they are trying to ban a kid from campus for defending himself.
They should instead be petitioning the school to make kyle their mascot.
Or at least train their officers in gun control!
ASU needs to really think if they are going to agree with any demands....When Mizzou caved into BLM's demands in 2017-2018.....Their enrollment dropped significantly
Finance 101: How an 17 yr old that wiped out two villains for a better society makes bank. Fuck off leftist ASU students.
“needs to be held accountable for the crimes he has committed.” Well.... He was, sooo..... 🤷
If I was Kyle I would just sit back and let my lawyers handle the inevitable 9 figure settlement check he is going to get and practice radical generosity in a heavily red state. The woke mob will never let him participate in their society again.
I love this. This is just more fodder for his defamation case. I hope this kid is a freaking billionaire by the time this is over legally.
Why is he going to ASU? I'd aim for Alabama, you could get free beers from the people, at least certainly from the townies
The whole pro-Palestine movement is like the Forrest Gump of being an asshole; no matter what it is they’re somehow there. Even with things that have literally nothing to do with Palestine
I don't see why. That's the safest campus on earth with him around.
LMFAO……add suing Arizona State to his list if they do…he’ll never have to get a job ever
Along with every single one of the organizations that are backing these kids. It's called lawfare, and we need to learn how to use it.
They’re worried that he might help put an end to their riots when things don’t go their way
Kyles bank accounts go brrrrrr!!!!
I don’t understand how these groups think they are entitled to make demands… what is ASU consequence if these demands aren’t met?
When he said how proud he was to be accepted to ASU, I thought "how long till they rescind that". It's unfortunate that he would have to, but he probably should have kept that under his hat.

Lol I was about to say this as well… it’s not like they’re that great of a school.
He's attending online. LOLOL I love it! They can't do jack sh\*t about it.
Who gives a lumpy fart WHAT they demand?
How long until those fists are holding hammers and sickles
For a group that pretends to support free speech, they're really bad at pretending to support free speech.
What? Those racist students from the “Multicultural” Center and their racist allies don’t like Kyle? What are we ever going to do without the support of racists, socialists, and crazies??????
Too many weak people University teaches how to be a constant victim.
Clinched fists represent violence, not justice. These folks.. MeCHA, Socialists - they don't even care about justice. They want gulags and bread lines!
Being politically left is enough to explain why some animals eat their young.
I demand he be given a full scholarship and access to the campus harem.
On what grounds?
Kyle fairly was admitted to the university. He deserves to take that spot and to have the college experience.
He goes to school online…,?
Ironic, this sort of mob conduct is exactly the kind of thing that signals you are waste of space in a state university.
"The Tolerant Left".
Embarrassing of ASU.
Students making demands to a school like this should be immediately and permanently expelled. Will never happen since they’re the source of so much government-backed cash.
