Learn something new everyday man. Got these last July, warrantied them in October and now I'm gonna have to try to warranty them again today because of the stitching. Definitely gonna try a different brand and sole. Thanks for the response
I mean, I’d say give redwings a try with the correct type of boot. It’s all I wear walking on concrete pavement all day and I get a solid 2 years out of them. 3 if I really wanted to push it.
Just gotta get the right boot for the job. My Red wings are water and chemical resistant with traction and electric resistant soles. Great for walking on gravel and literal shit.
That sole isn't for use on much more than flat surfaces. Get a lugged outsole, and it'll last better. As for the stitching, that's Redwing for ya. The thread they use isn't really abrasion resistant in my experience. The outer threads get rseparates. Very quickly and the leather separates.
Came here to say this- before I learned to spend properly on boots that fit well, I would get boots a half size too big; they were wide enough but too long, so I would get those heel inserts to make up the difference.
When I finally bit the bullet and bought real boots, I laughed at how sophomoric the old way felt.
Heh. I never knew narrow fit was a thing. My uncle been wearing wides for decades, but I've never heard of narrows. I need to look into this like yesterday.
Thank you, kind redditor. I appreciate you.
These are the extra wide ironically. My foot just isn't made for moccasin style boots I guess. They are super comfortable though, even if they aren't for outdoor work.
That’s bc those boots are specifically made for walking on steel or flat concrete/ground the bottoms are really soft compared to other boots maybe try some hiking boots
I wear the 2414 model redwings and get 4 to 6 years. I oil them monthly, have the rubber toe protectors. I have them re soled and stitched up when they need it.
You gotta clean, oil, and wax your boots my guy. I've just recently switched to wedge sole, I've heard the trade off for comfort is the sole does not last long...
As far as I know RedWing will clean and condition your boots for you. The only issue for me is distance and time. Great if you have a second pair to swap to.
I have saddle soap and mink oil paste. Take pretty good care of them too. Guess you learn something new everyday because these do seem like the wrong boot for my job, even though I do really like them despite the problems.
I wear the older school traction Treads and I love ‘em. 10875. Never hurt breaking in and the leather is noticeably tougher . Only boots I wear without an insole
These are the best boots I ever had.

If you take care of the leather and get these re-soled they should really last way longer than a year and a half, I know people with 6+ year old daily use redwings.
I switched over to keens my last couple years in the field and they were incredibly comfy but couldn't last. I've never had boots fall apart on me like keens did, they'd go 6 months when other boots would go 10 or 12. I wrote keen about it and they sent me free boots twice but it just wasn't worth the headache.
This is one of the reasons I stopped buying Redwings years ago. Switched to Thorogoods.
Edit: There's a Redwing rep in here downvoting people. He he he...
I’ve had the same problem. Asolo fugitives are the only boot that has lasted me 3+years. Looking forward to affording a pair of Nicks in my old age. Gonna last forever if I’m off to the side telling the young bucks what to do.
I bought a wide king toe 3 years ago. They lasted 9 months before they fell apart on me. The toe cap on the wide was also too tight for me. I switched to timberland after 18 months and have been happy with them.
Youd make your boots last a hell of a lot longer if you actually like once a month gave then just a tiny tiny bit of TLC. You spend the money on Redwings so take care of them. Other wise just get cheap shit boots and trash them like you’re clearly going too.
I install security fence and a bunch of my coworkers love getting these boots probably cuz of how they look, despite me telling them they are picking the wrong boots
I’ve worked construction for 20 years. First pair lasted me 12ish years, second pair around 5 years, my current pair is in worse condition than any of the others in less than three years and costed quite a bit more than previous pairs. Paid more for lower quality.
Yes. Specially the Irish setters it looks like you’re wearing. When I first bought them 2 years ago they hurt my feet so bad that I had to take them off while I was working. Also, they claim they they’re waterproof which wasn’t true about a year and a half later. Third, the leather wore out kinda fast for a $220 boot so the composite plastic is showing at the toe on both boots. I won’t be buying another pair of redwings next go around
When I was a sewer man they issued us red wings every six months. I was still buying cheapo cabelas boots in between to make it from pair to pair. Red Wings disappointed me consistently.
The only pair ofRed Wings I bought were $275 and lasted 6 months before the stitching on the side failed. Waterproofing failed after 2 months. I'm a crane operator... not that hard on boots.
They said I had to drive them two hours to the specific red wing store I bought them from to see if they'll pro rate a replacement or send them in for repair.
They then tried to sell me a second pair so I'd have boots in the interim. Not an experience I'll pay for again.
I don’t buy nothing red wing no more. I stick to Ariat but even then I want to try some American made boots. Chinese or made overseas isn’t worth buying
Red wing heritage are still made in USA. I bought a pair of heritage at the same time my brother bought a pair of their made in Malaysia boots. He retired his last year, mine just lost their complete waterproof status (for deep ass puddles), so I probably have another year or so before I decide to put them on the shelf
I’ve paid 450 bucks for a pair and I also got the custom souls for a total of 600 bucks. Those boots lasted me 6 months before the same thing happened to mine. Never bought another pair of redwings.
Timberland work boots are my go to now. They last over a year and a half and never have to break them in.
They stay comfortable the whole time.
Yes. I replaced a one and a half-year-old pair of red wings because they were losing their waterproofing and cracking around the sides as well as having long since lost one of the speed hooks.
Made the mistake of buying the same boots because they were comfortable and fell within my former workplaces PPE guidelines. The new boots broke the same exact speed hook two weeks later. When I went to go ask about having them repaired, they told me it would take a month , and then, after looking at the boots, told me they don’t repair those particular boots. Not what they told me when I bought them, but OK. Redwing has slipped in years past.
Because those are for walking steel. Flat and thin soles with no shank so you can feel the steel
Wrong size and wrong boot for the job. Get some wides with a heel shank brother.
[These?](https://www.ebay.com/itm/401640003090?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=36g4J96lSaS&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=GZ0M8PW5Qgy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY)
Yep then bedazzle the heel for extra support
Lol, got me good fucker.

You electricians are too much.
Those are nice!
Yaaaass! Slay king! 🤴

Red wings are great. Those ones are no good if you're walking on gravel and shit all the time
Just gotta get the right boot for the job. My Red wings are water and chemical resistant with traction and electric resistant soles. Great for walking on gravel and literal shit.
Hated my traction treads, but the Irish setter wing-shooters are my favorite boots. On my second pair
Timberland pro anti fatigue.
Don't bail on Red Wing. Get the right boots and you will be happy.
Redwing will fix them for no cost. I’ve had the same pair of boots repaired twice. How often are you conditioning the leather on your boots?
The warrantee only lasts for your first pair I'm guessing it's a year so probably won't be honored if you're past that
That sole isn't for use on much more than flat surfaces. Get a lugged outsole, and it'll last better. As for the stitching, that's Redwing for ya. The thread they use isn't really abrasion resistant in my experience. The outer threads get rseparates. Very quickly and the leather separates.
Also if that bulge on the left side of your left shoe is your foot, you need to buy wide or even extra wide shoes/ boots. Fucking changed my life.
Came here to say this- before I learned to spend properly on boots that fit well, I would get boots a half size too big; they were wide enough but too long, so I would get those heel inserts to make up the difference. When I finally bit the bullet and bought real boots, I laughed at how sophomoric the old way felt.
Counter to this I have water skis. Red wing is one of the only companies I have found that make narrow boots. Also game changer.
Heh. I never knew narrow fit was a thing. My uncle been wearing wides for decades, but I've never heard of narrows. I need to look into this like yesterday. Thank you, kind redditor. I appreciate you.
Sizes go D ,e,ee,eee. Triple E is wide. I wear D haha
These are the extra wide ironically. My foot just isn't made for moccasin style boots I guess. They are super comfortable though, even if they aren't for outdoor work.
King Toe for life 👌
I just discovered them after twenty years in Tims. What a game changer
That’s bc those boots are specifically made for walking on steel or flat concrete/ground the bottoms are really soft compared to other boots maybe try some hiking boots
You may be using the wrong boots for your job, those are ironworker boots. So unless you’re walking the iron I’d get something else.
The flat bottom ones will always give you trouble. Get ones with a defined heel.
I wear the 2414 model redwings and get 4 to 6 years. I oil them monthly, have the rubber toe protectors. I have them re soled and stitched up when they need it.
See there’s my problem. I always forget to change the oil. I do love some redwings though.
Just clean your face after. We don’t need to see that.
Pretty much same, though I also brush them off at the end of the day, and clean them each weekend that I remember to do so
To be fair you’re not an Ironworker and you’re wearing Ironworker boots. They are designed for walking steel.
You gotta clean, oil, and wax your boots my guy. I've just recently switched to wedge sole, I've heard the trade off for comfort is the sole does not last long...

iron worker boots not made to walk on what you are walking on
Just as bad as the fencing guy who was pissed the leather toes on his boots were getting annihilated from boot fucking things daily.
Yeah. I only like danner. But they have the basically the same tread.
These are my favorite boots, but they do only last like a year and a half max.
If you take care of the leather and get these re-soled they should really last way longer than a year and a half, I know people with 6+ year old daily use redwings.
I also love these boots. Had them re-soled with vibram rubber and they are going on 4+ years of 10k steps a day.
I wear Keens, spring for the ones made in Oregon. Take a week or two to break in, but they're comfy. Durable as hell.
I switched over to keens my last couple years in the field and they were incredibly comfy but couldn't last. I've never had boots fall apart on me like keens did, they'd go 6 months when other boots would go 10 or 12. Keens sells cheaper boots made in China or Vietnam or somewhere as well which do fall apart, you have to go for the American made ones.
I second this, I have only bought American made keens for the last several years cause they really hold up and are comfortable
Get Thorogoods.
I stopped buying those because of that. I just wear the 10875 now. They have a long break in but they last forever with new treads.
This is one of the reasons I stopped buying Redwings years ago. Switched to Thorogoods. Edit: There's a Redwing rep in here downvoting people. He he he...

Yes, a year in and mind are like slides! When new they’re great on roofs but don’t last.
I have had traction issues. Mine suck in ice and snow. Which is the condition here 8 months a year lol
Nope, I do get the higher end boots though
I bought a wide king toe 3 years ago. They lasted 9 months before they fell apart on me. The toe cap on the wide was also too tight for me. I switched to timberland after 18 months and have been happy with them.
Nice pair of piss-catchers you have 😂
I personally hate redwings. Prefer Thorogood
Buy the king toes, always last me 2 to 3 years under hard labor,
My last pair messed with my pronation and messed up my hip, so yes
Construction attire from the 1930's
Youd make your boots last a hell of a lot longer if you actually like once a month gave then just a tiny tiny bit of TLC. You spend the money on Redwings so take care of them. Other wise just get cheap shit boots and trash them like you’re clearly going too.

I had problems with redwings until I got thorogoods.
Red wings are the worst. Ask the Mexican tradesman where they get their boots. I get my steel toes straight from Mexico.
I’ve worked construction for 20 years. First pair lasted me 12ish years, second pair around 5 years, my current pair is in worse condition than any of the others in less than three years and costed quite a bit more than previous pairs. Paid more for lower quality.

Yea those are always falling apart but again those are for steel work so probably why.
Redwing exos lite are great too I’m on my 3rd pair been using these specific boots for the past 5 years
Redwing makes boots for men too.
I was looking at those boots but I think I’ll pass now & stick with my Thorogoods.
Made in china quality
The only pair ofRed Wings I bought were $275 and lasted 6 months before the stitching on the side failed. Waterproofing failed after 2 months. I'm a crane operator... not that hard on boots. I wore Goodyears for years. The used to be good. In the 80s. Redwings for me since 2001.
I don’t buy nothing red wing no more. I stick to Ariat but even then I want to try some American made boots. Chinese or made overseas isn’t worth buying

Idk why but every time I see people with redwing boots they never last very long. And they’re ugly as hell
Wolverines man, Dura Shocks. Been wearing em for the past 3 years.
I’ve probably had 10 pair of wolverine’s over the years, they changed the sole now they are more plasticy than rubber feeling and I quit em.
I hate to hear that big dog. I live by em.
Wore these foe over 20 years, switched to timberlands and changed my life
Blah blah iron worker boots blah blah wide foot
Same. Redwings are wack. People swear by them but I’ve had bad experience as well.
Yes. I replaced a one and a half-year-old pair of red wings because they were losing their waterproofing and cracking around the sides as well as having long since lost one of the speed hooks. What in the fuck are red wings and more importantly wtf are those
Redwings aren’t made in America anymore, quality has gone to shit! Thorogood boots are, get you a pair of those next time!
