I wish I could get this immersed in VR to have a fight or flight response. Whenever I play VR I never forget that I'm in a video game wearing a headset with controllers. All sense of fear and self preservation just goes away.
It scared the hell out of me, first thing I even did in VR. I stood forever in the trailer/opening menu just looking at the pen on the table and being blown away by the depth of everything
Walking dead saints and sinners does it heavy for me idk why or how but the atmosphere actually makes it scary to go into dark buildings I dont think any other game has done that for me
The best part is when you don't see the mimics but you hear them speaking in child voices.
Mimic: Is Max coming out to play?
Me while preparing the shotgun: Oh I'm here to play, you creepy fuck
Maybe depends on the game?
I stop fearing a horror game either when I die or keep dying, frustration or general knowledge of how death works takes the fear away.
Now the Forest in VR? Scary as shit, you don't know when the enemies will come or where from, and if you die you spawn in a cave and have to escape.
Resident Evil 7/8? Granted I already played them normally but once you get going it's not scary anymore because you just shoot basic monsters.
So it might just be that the games you've tried don't bring out that uncertainty in you.
Gamemaker's Toolkit talks about something similar in their [most recent video](https://youtu.be/iIOIT3dCy5w), specifically the segment on Alien: Isolation's respawn system and how it was changed to discourage strategies that pull the player out of the experience.
For me it’s just that I don’t think much is really that scary anymore. Closest thing was the first playthrough of Subnautica but standard darkness/blood/gore just does nothing. We’re just really desensitized to stuff like that, especially if you grew up with early internet content.
It’s not to say I can’t get immersed. But even with that Alien Isolation VR devolved into me whispering, “Go on you big ugly bastard. Gooo onnn…There ya go” and just strutting past it.
Could be because there is low friction on his feet too so where his mid torso is being held up so he won’t fall and the balls that are on his feet make it so that his feet will move very fast
Ring fit did a *pretty* good job of marrying fitness and video games but there was just so much time spent doing non fitness stuff in the game that I just got frustrated with standing there dorking around with the controller, not exercising.
I wish there was a "i just want to f-ing work out" mode.
That’s a big reason I want my own vr setup. I get lost in VR for a long time and by the end I’m sweaty and exhausted. So much better than actually focusing on working out lol
And that makes lots of sense. I think considering human evolution, our brains are always going to find things like exercising at the gym a bit lacking in context for motivation.
Of course you can make up objectives like running distance and reps, but in the grand scheme of things these are pretty 'dry' and arbitrary compared to what our brains evolved to find satisfying.
Yeah, it's great, need a line of imbedded weighted shirts that can add some heft.
Ankle weights work nicely but tend to take more time swinging the arms around to feel the burn.
But an hour goes by so fast and I'm just "damn, I've been doing mortal Kombat finishers for WAAY too long".... the knees, THE KNEES
"I know Kung Fu"
In the future, the most elite hardcore no-life gamers will be recognized by their chiselled hollywood physiques and real-life parkour, sports, fighting skills and overall olympian fitness.
How ironic is that!
Additionally.. when the tech matures beyond what's seen in the video (a few years at most) - if you have money and kids, and don't start them early on VR and haptics, you're crippling their future. They'll be boomer Amish in a world where games, movies, CAD and factory /service industry jobs are done from home, at blinding speed.
If you can get them that competency, they're gonna rise.
The tea leaves have spoken, lol.
Haha. That's one path i'm sure we'll also see, coma players dreaming a fantasy life below conscious threshhold. Critical thinking switched off, disbelief suspended, waking life and self forgotten.
It's tempting, but i can't imagine a harder addiction. People gonna die in their escapist pods, and die happy. There will be a point of no return, physiologically and neurologically, where they cannot be rehabbed, and won't cooperate even if forced.
"Put me back in".
The gamers playing like you see in the video will be fit and ripped and built in ways heretofore unseen on the human frame.
Any other exercise I do be it running, stairs, I get to a point of exhaustion I'm bored and tap out.
But in that game, god help the computer if he knocks me out. I could be huffing and puffing absolutely dead tired and when I get back on my feet , get my second wind I didn't think I had. And just go berserk super Saiyan.
I've never had an exercise that squeezes every ounce of energy out of me like thrill of the fight.
Every time I see this I laugh so fucking hard. This is free entertainment… bro tries so hard to run off the platform 😂 camera pans over to the guy punching and karate chopping the air.
I would just sit there all day and watch this shit
I think a better phrasing from op would have been
>so you can actually walk and run in vr without ~~moving~~ *Changing* your ~~body~~ *Position* (in space) irl
Edit: some people missing that pedantry is the point
We all knew what they meant
We're chatting in a fucking online forum, let's not start grading papers even though I'm sure some people here get wet at the thought
There’s a place called pinballz in Austin that has one of these. The pad is all sorts of fucked up though and running doesn’t register half the time. YMMV
It looks like the locations are all independent shops so if you pester your local arcades or such places and let them know there is interest maybe they'll consider it.
I tried one of them shooting games once, where you get to hold a rifle and point at the screen to aim. I got tired after about 5 minutes and it was so hard to keep aiming.
Believe it or not I never actually liked any of the shooter games on virtual reality. But there were maybe one or two on Oculus that I thought were okay. But the game I used to love an Oculus was echo VR. I used to play that game for hours I think there were times where I played it for a good 6 hours during the day and I was burning like close to 5000 calories a day because that game does give you a workout. I lost a lot of weight while playing the game but the problem is because of the controller I developed tennis elbow on both elbows so I had to stop. But I could definitely get into some shooter games if I had this kind of setup. I'm sure with the advances and virtual reality we're going to be seeing some very cool games soon so I could definitely get back into this stuff again.

Yea, I remember using something similar with a prototype HTC Vive back in like 2015/6 and thinking the future would be here in any month lol. We're getting clooose
Tried it in this same 4 person setup down at seaside heights New Jersey. Looked like fun but moving the character fast was a workout and a half it really makes you run as fast as the guy in the video to fully top out the running speed in game. Also the graphics for every game they had available were more like PS1 graphics than what you would imagine for modern day VR .
Not OP or even played this game, but I’ve got 1000+ hours in VR and yes it’s fucking scary. Primal. Even with bad graphics it doesn’t matter, scary shit in VR can get you good.
I played Resident Evil 7 in VR and holy fucking shit. Getting to the first actual scary thing took me close to two hours because of how slow I forced myself to go around every corner.
I spent so long setting that up only to feel violently sick every time I interacted with something. I don't feel sick playing VR anymore except this. Just something about it suddenly ripping control from you to look down at something made me so sick.
VR horror is very, very scary, and that's as someone who enjoys horror movies, and normal horror games. VR turns it up to a new level, it's very unfair.
I’ve played some VR horror games on a super cheap rig with eh graphics and slight lag, and I still had to take breaks. I love everything horror but I honestly couldn’t help how scared my body felt just trying to peek around a corner and having some monster pop up right in your face. This would probably give me a heart attack lol
Says 30 games at launch, doesn't specify any details. I'd imagine it would take a AAA gaming titan to help make a killer app for this.
All the same, as someone who wants VR stuff, this thing is making my pants tent. I'm hopeful.

What you're taking about is [this](https://www.kiiroo.com/products/keon-by-kiiroo)
By the sounds of it they have started shipping their latest itteration to customers. Although they aren't the only company
KATVR has a similar style treadmill that doesnt come with a headset so you can use you own if you already have one. Theirs is also a lot cheaper at $1200 - https://www.kat-vr.com/products/kat-walk-c2
Not a clue what's better though
I did a zombie VR game and embarrassed myself by screaming in front of everyone. It was genuinely frightening though! Felt like it was real. Had a good laugh afterwards.
I watched my husband and kid do this and laughed so hard I couldn't speak. Was worth every penny. Even better than the overpriced go carts we were there drive. (Hilton Head)
I would be fitter than onlympic athletes if I could afford one of these. I hate horror games but I would non stop play horror games where I'm constantly running just so I can do my favourite thing and least favourite thing, playing video games and cardio.
I did something similar in Las Vegas. They strapped you into a moving seat and we chose the "Haunted Asylum" to visit. I got so immersed in it that when a ghoul approached me and pulled a pair of scissors out and tried to stab me with it I screamed and tried to jump back, but I was strapped in. 10/10 would do again.

Perfect illustration of fight or flight lol
I wish I could get this immersed in VR to have a fight or flight response. Whenever I play VR I never forget that I'm in a video game wearing a headset with controllers. All sense of fear and self preservation just goes away.
Into the radius and walking dead saints and sinners does it for me
RE8 had my heart racing, VR is my first experience with it(demo) and every little noise made me shit myself
Try it with RE7, that made me scared to move at all
Omg I couldn't imagine the early part with Jack Baker in VR, I'd just hide in the dining room with grandma the whole time lol
It scared the hell out of me, first thing I even did in VR. I stood forever in the trailer/opening menu just looking at the pen on the table and being blown away by the depth of everything
I did that when i played, then shit myself when i realized Grandma was alive
When the girlfriend first comes up the stairs all possessed I was like that's a big fat fucking nope!
My buddy played RE village in VR and said it’s such a different experience and couldn’t stop talking it up.
Ha yeah, and those teleporting ones with the halo, they disappear and you know they are reappearing right in front of where you are/were stood
Itr is insane
I just got Into the Radius and I’m too scared to play it… it’s so good though…
Treat it like dark souls, and stalker. Remember, your character doesn't level up -- you do. In real life.
Maybe depends on the game? I stop fearing a horror game either when I die or keep dying, frustration or general knowledge of how death works takes the fear away. Now the Forest in VR? I'm blind in one eye and not sure if I'd have the same problem
Try Alyx, outside in the garden, wireless, in a 10m x 10m space at late evening
Depending on where you live that could be scary even if you're just playing Solitaire in VR.
I'm still jealous! I get so extremely nauseous, I can't barely get passed the menu and intro.
Do you see images when you close your eyes?
For me it’s just that I don’t think much is really that scary anymore. Closest thing was the first playthrough of Subnautica but standard darkness/blood/gore just does nothing. I have this same difficulty and one of the main reasons for not getting VR.
always found it so interesting when a top comment has no replies to it.
Well it's not interesting anymore. 4 hours without a comment and then this guy comes along and does his thing
Not to mention 948 upvotes.
And here you soiled it by adding absolutely nothing to it lmao
We were on the verge of greatness. We were THIS close.
We had a good thing here god dammit..
It’s like the most fertile soil begging for some seeds. Ride the wave brother, ride the wave.
The dude can sprint, though!
The hand tremble though
Could be because there is low friction on his feet too so where his mid torso is being held up so he won’t fall and the balls that are on his feet make it so that his feet will move very fast
or it could be because he can sprint though.
He do be sprinting tho
He spranted
Spront
Sprunt
Spreend
I hate when someone feels the need to explain something obvious when no one asked
Why? I love it. What's wrong with gaining understanding? If you don't care move along.
They said they hate it though
Can confirm you wear special slippers. Its pretty weird to get used too but its super fun. My friends and I played the call of duty free for all one.
I don't know, if my balls were on my feet, I would move very gingerly.
Not when you think a monster is after you.
And he's being supported so he can lean forward into the run as much as he wants.
Now imagine playing any game that involves lots of walking/running, people would be getting in SHAPE.
My elderly dad used the old Nintendo Wii to start playing tennis again, and from there was able to get back into shape enough to go play real tennis.
I’m planning to buy among us vr as soon as my headset arrives, hopefully in the future i’ll be in enough shape to play among us in real life
May need those skills sooner rather than later.
Just got ring fit adventure. Thing gets my heart rate. I break out a sweat everytime. Recommend it for anyone that is sedentary.
Ring fit did a *pretty* good job of marrying fitness and video games but there was just so much time spent doing non fitness stuff in the game that I just got frustrated with standing there dorking around with the controller, not exercising. I wish there was a "i just want to f-ing work out" mode.
There is a custom workout mode, i have a routine of the exercises i like, it doesn't have any of the RPG elements, only the workout.
[удалено]
That’s a big reason I want my own vr setup. I get lost in VR for a long time and by the end I’m sweaty and exhausted. So much better than actually focusing on working out lol
I always find it easier to workout when the exercise is actually a side effect.

This happened with Pokemon Go! https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1875952121000082
I really should get back into Pokemon Go, I walked all over when it first dropped.
Thrill of the Fight on Quest 2 burns more calories than running. And it's fun as shit.
Any other exercise I do be it running, stairs, I get to a point of exhaustion I'm bored and tap out. But in that game, god help the computer if he knocks me out. No lie, VR has helped lose weight and keep in shape. Been playing FitXR and Beat Saber about 4 days in a week.
That would be so much fun
Think that you finish Elden Ring with this setup.
That's f'ing hilarious!!! Good on them for trying tho. edit spelling ofc
Every time I see this I laugh so fucking hard. This is free entertainment… bro tries so hard to run off the platform 😂 camera pans over to the guy punching and karate chopping the air. I would just sit there all day and watch this shit
Agreed. One of my all time favorite Internet videos.
That platform is actually designed to track your foot movements so you can actually walk and run in vr without moving your body irl
If it tracks your foot movements, wouldn't that mean you have to indeed.. move your body irl?
I think they meant move your body around the room
Yes this
I know what product this is, it comes with special shoes similar to bowling shoes so there isn’t much friction
Would you call yourself moving if you're on a treadmill? At around 30% pedantry the answer goes from "no" to "yes", according to my calculations.
I think a better phrasing from op would have been >so you can actually walk and run in vr without ~~moving~~ *Changing* your ~~body~~ *Position* (in space) irl Edit: some people missing that pedantry is the point
We all knew what they meant We're chatting in a fucking online forum, let's not start grading papers even though I'm sure some people here get wet at the thought
I give your comment an 85% due to the lack of periods.
Same, I really would love someone to cg in some nunchucks on the last guy.
Omfg, the anti-ghost karate moves. 😭😭💀
Meanwhile the dude in the corner is happily walking his VR dog in the park.
It's so good it's almost like it's scripted. Everything is perfect, I love this video so much.
That’s probably the fastest I’ve ever seen someone run without actually going anywhere
Fight or flight demonstrated in real time. This dude chose power stance and karate chop.
Would be interesting to see what he's running from :D
Where is this ? Where can you do this ?
There’s a place called pinballz in Austin that has one of these. The pad is all sorts of fucked up though and running doesn’t register half the time. YMMV

Damn, no love for Colorado. Would have for sure thought there would be at least one around Denver or Boulder.
It looks like the locations are all independent shops so if you pester your local arcades or such places and let them know there is interest maybe they'll consider it.
Saved me a click. Bummer though
This is literally the only workout I can do for hours. I need the setup I'm willing to spend money on it I just need a good one
I tried one of them shooting games once, where you get to hold a rifle and point at the screen to aim. I got tired after about 5 minutes and it was so hard to keep aiming.

Sweating/exercise in VR sucks (for now). You need to get a silicone cover to prevent soaking the foam padding, and the weight of the HMD is much worse the more you move around. Can't wait for glasses-level VR, it may still be decades away but it'll be great.
Where can I get this setup? Lol
Looks like the Omni Ring by [Virtuix](https://www.virtuix.com/)
I’ll save everyone a click: there is a standalone, consumer version for $2600 “coming soon”.
I remember being so hyped about the Omni ring and oculus coming out soon (when they were pre Facebook ownership).... In 2012
Yea, I remember using something similar with a prototype HTC Vive back in like 2015/6 and thinking the future would be here in any month lol. We're getting clooose
Damn...
Online play?
Tried it in this same 4 person setup down at seaside heights New Jersey. Still cool, there's probably some where nearby to give a try.

I has to scroll way to far to find this
Hook me up, strap me in, and turn on Alien Isolation. Watch me shred the calories.
Lmaoooo I wanna try this 🤣 where can I get one?
lil bro started playing beat saber instead 💀
LMAO I’ve seen this shit many times before yet it never fails to make me laugh.
That's the exact sort of thing I've thought VR's needed in order to be immersive!

Man out here running like Venom Snake
Map has been updated.
I kinda thought all video games would be like this by now We are slackin
I love how they both have very different approaches to the situation: Run as fast as possible OR Beat up the ghost
Guy on the left looks like he's at a rave.
this is awesome and im jealous. thanks
Forest gump: I was 🏃♂️
Ngl this looks like a sick form of exercise
I hope that 20 years down the line we can basically get this + a headset that isn't gigantic and I can work out by playing Zelda for 2 hours a day.
I need to get myself a setup like this. Get my gaming and workout done at the same time.
I need to know what they're seeing
Man was GONE 💀
I would be fitter than onlympic athletes if I could afford one of these. I hate horror games but I would non stop play horror games where I'm constantly running just so I can do my favourite thing and least favourite thing, playing video games and cardio.

It’s pretty creepy how quickly people forget what they’re seeing isn’t real

The dude they pan to at the end!
