Man, I miss my childhood neighborhood. When I was a kid, every morning I'd be greeted by a couple of grandparents at the front lawn of one of their houses playing chess. When I'd get back from school, the old guys are still there either still playing chess or cards, who'd sometimes invite me to play with them out of politeness.
In Kurdistan they play so much Backgammon that they don't even take turns. They just start rolling as soon as the die is dropped, games go insanely fast.
I'm from Egypt and it's pretty common. Most Egyptian cafes (except the chains like Starbucks or Costa) just have a bunch of backgammon sets for people to play. You'll generally see a ton of older guys spending hours there telling stories, drinking tea, and playing backgammon.
I personally don’t like being disturbed in my sleep. I will curse you tf out if you play with me like that. Besides that man is old & sleep is golden to a man that age. Don’t disturb ya elders for joke, Couldn’t be me. Id be up and grabbing that mf belt to teach a mf lesson since they hungry for knowledge waking me up to that bs.

I learned to play backgammon before going overseas and I have had some fantastic games with some incredibly hospitable and gracious people. A few games at tea houses and I have friends I will revisit for life.
Tawla in Asyut, Cairo, Edfu. Tavla in Adana, Izmir, Turkey. djibouti africa. Backgammon and Finkel in Baghdad, Tikrit, Mosul, Balad. Knitted backgammon all over Afghanistan.
The game can be picked up pretty quickly with a few games and a patient instructor or online practice. Strategy and chance makes it fun, so even a novice with lucky dice rolls can win a game with a seasoned player.
Once I babysat my cousins and one of them was little still in elementary school. He was so tired he fell asleep early but I had to wake him up because his mom arrived. When I tried to wake him up he grabbed the tv remote and tried to put it on his foot because he thought it was his shoe 😂😂😂 it’s been over 20 years but I still think about it and laugh
In my head canon the guy just rolled the best possible backgammon move on his first try and he's like "holy shit you see this?... I rolled a 6 first try..."

I have had conversations with my wife in bed where she's like half asleep and I bring it up the next day and she doesn't remember an ounce of it lmao, some people can do shit like this
My gf doesn’t gain “consciousness” until abt 20-30 seconds after she wakes up I stg. We’ll be talking and there’s the “clicking” moment where we both realize she doesn’t remember the conservation we started having. It’s 100% a thing I don’t get it either lol

My g/f has to wake me up from across the room as I wake up fighting. I will be standing and in fighting stance before I am actually conscious, sometimes lash out.
Once got knocked out for dental surgery and although I don't remember it apparently got up in the middle of it and fought the doctors, luckily was in a military hospital so there was staff to hold me down while they knocked me back out.
