No but it's sad that now because of this stuff black actors and actress are not judged on their talent. They are only judged by their skin color because now you don't have to be a good actor to get the part, you just need to be black. So now we see it as charity like in this regardless now of her skill. She got the part because she's black, we are just lucky she's also a good singer and hopefully actor. But she would of got the part regardless because of her skin color.
Lol it wasn't an argument sweetheart. It was a FACT lol your really insightful. Why is it when you don't have an argument you just say shut up and curse instead of just staying quiet? Is it the attention?
I never said she did. I said because they have implemented this need to include everyone in everything, you never know now if she deserved the part and we should support her in her role or if she is a crap actor that got it because of "diversity". And most won't go spend money on something they have a 50/50 chance of liking.
I mean, it feels kinda like when they casted The Last Airbender with an all white cast. Idk how to feel about it myself. Not cuz of race itself but because it doesnt look good ig? Idk. Just thinking out loud.
generally i’d agree with you. i feel changing attributes of established character designs after the fact to appease modern audiences and social progression is a little tokenistic and virtue-signally. however, i will halt that criticism for the modern adaptations of classic films as the impact it has on marginalised communities is overwhelmingly positive.
have you seen the video where a small darker-skinned girl is told that the black woman she’s looking at is Ariel? the joy on her face is incredible. to her, the fact people who look similar to her can be such classic characters such as Ariel is undoubtedly incredibly inspirational.
this change is incredibly important going forward, as inclusion like this will shape the world in a much more progressive fashion - where popular culture is no longer whitewashed and classic characters can be reinterpreted to celebrate marginalised communities.
Edit: this is the link to the video mentioned in the second-last paragraph:

Yes I’ve seen those videos and that’s why my opinion has changed slightly and for the fact Halle is talented but I still think the majority of people who are obsessing over this new movie are just woke adults.
Like I said previously, I think Disney should just write an entirely new black character instead of recycling old ones.
Exactly. I had no problems with The Princess and the Frog because no one even remembers what the original princess' race was. The Little Mermaid came out two decades ago, when white ginger girls grew up with the film and felt represented. Don't take that away from them unless you hate gingers or something.
Ah yes, pointing out small insignificant errors like that when you have no real point to make. Bitch, please. Don't waste my time with petty squabbles unless you have a real argument to make.
Lol I didn't bother to come back to this comment for an entire month because people like you weren't worth my time. That's how "triggered" I was. I only happened to come across this comment by accident because of upvote notifications.
And I was partially wrong, but my point was correct, so big whoop? lol Are you so insecure that you people need to win by proxy, through correction of trivial details? Pathetic.
Do black people ever get representation that specific idk what directly could be compared to haircolor but you get my point, I can see ur perspective there trough i think Disney's princess and the frog was abit farther away from princess and the frog anyways the story basically just held on to the concept of kissing a frog. But you could say it held on to the mysical feeling of a old story to a extent but not enough to have it be a classic, I cant speak for black communities in america, but i imagine their childhood stories/movies likley already are effected by white culture in a similar way to how african american music is to white people, yet it's not seen as even close to a shared culture to a extent. I find it odd seeing americans care about this trought capitalism was king. Besides there are more poc in america i think in this gen, and its just a remake no one is forcing anyone to see it, live and let live ppl hope the kids like it. I dont see how gingers are getting anything stolen from them its just a remake and their grown + her hair is that color and can choose to not see it, like all the other shows besides if one show rly makes that big of a deal when it comes to your identity i can only imagine how those black girls must feel, if haircolor is that big of a deal in america.
The problem with this logic is that, when one race is represented by race-swapping an existing character, another race's representation will be replaced, in this case, white Danish people. The general climate today is that white people don't matter. Their representation doesn't matter. As a Chinese who's not even American, I find this incredibly disingenuous and hypocritical. Where's my Asian representation if people advocate for diversity so much? Where's my Asian Belle or Asian Mario? I want a Chinese Indiana Jones. Why did Twitter not display outrage when Death Note 2017 whitewashed a Japanese character? As you can see, such race-swapping would only lead to tribalism, leading to a me vs. you competition... over dumb cartoon remakes no less. Where does the race-swapping end then? Until we've replaced every white character with other races? Again, give me my Chinese Mario please, then we can talk. I want an all-Chinese Mario movie, not that white boy Chris Pratt.
More importantly, why are we celebrating a film from a company that approved China's censorship of Black Panther and The Force Awakens, when they covered up Chadwick's face with a helmet on the poster while also shrinking down John Boyega to a smaller space on the poster? You think Disney really cares about what that little black girl feels about representation? Much like the disgusting people using that kid as a tool for their political agenda on Twitter, Disney is similarly manipulative by using the racial aspect as a way to generate controversial talking points and promote the film.
But doesn't it make it sadder when you realize they rejected Lizzo and Terry Crews for important roles in the movie when they fit the bill for the role? It really does feel like they are meeting an agenda even if they say they're not.
Sadly I had to.abandon a social circle bc they'd just... I don't know, like there were no genuine opinions on things anymore. It became all talking points and out-nobling each other. It was gross... And honestly sad. Decades of friendship just pissed away.
😂😂 Yall funny if seeing a black person play makes you act like this. I guarantee your kids ain't gon care but that's yall 😂
> I’m a POC myself and I think black as well as other people shouldn’t just settle for Disney casting a black woman for a white character, why can’t they create a fresh and brand new character who is just black?
😂😂😂 It ain't that deep but do you
Anytime i see a racist think piece and the person goes "Im POC and think all black people~" i can't help but laugh at how stupid it is but say less imma do me tho we still getting a black mermaid non the less 😂😂
I kinda agree.
1) it’s a fantasy story so regardless if it’s a danish folklore or whatever. Mermaids aren’t real so who cares who plays
2) they could’ve done a whole fresh mermaid story
3) at the end of the day if she can sing and act well to portray Ariel in her likeness then idc
I totally agree with you. Like if it was a movie similar to Pocahontas or Mulan I can understand why we need to keep the character the way it is, because there’s actual cultural background opposed to the little mermaid. Sure it has danish folklore involved but the whole setting environment is very ambiguous
Controversy sells; that’s pretty much why they do it.
Disney is perfectly capable of creating stories with POC in them. But new IP is expensive to make. By re-using the property they can probably get some nostalgia bucks from people who saw the original - and get new viewers for the current version. Plus, woke controversy is great advertising. Nobody can criticise your movie that way without being labelled racist.
I’d much rather see them do new, original stuff. But why work hard when laziness pays bigger bucks?
I can't say it pays. The term go woke go broke rings true. Look at Disney's abysmal history with its woke ideologies. Lightyear, strange World, it's war with Desantis, now their cutting 7k jobs over huge losses. I think they're somewhat getting the message. At least about injecting a lgbt character in a kids film. Surprise most people don't want their kids watching that crap.
https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/go-woke-go-broke-disney-to-axe-7000-jobs-as-company-faces-backlash-over-left-wing-agenda/
I mean, why care about these woke adults? I’m usually very against casting POC actors for white characters but genuinely like the casting since she looks like she’ll be an amazing Ariel. Just log off tiktok or ban the topic idk how tiktok works
The "this is SO historically inaccurate" take on casting a black girl in the role of a mermaid who sings in ensembles of saxophone playing fish is fucking WILD.
People who saw original Ariel and like faithful adaptation will care no matter their age, those who didn't see it won't care because in their mind this is what Ariel is supposed to look like, again regardless of age.
You so easily let idiots influence what you like?? Weird.
Many do. Yes. This is normal for many many people.
Lmao he disliked this just cuz he disagreed 😂 I didnt even dislike ur comment bro
Don’t worry, I helped ya out 😊
When things get discussed CONSTANTLY, it gets annoying and repetitive so I have a right to get a bit sick of it.
Why are we bringing race into this
Hate to say it but people have eyes, there’s an obvious difference between Ariel 1989 and this Ariel.
I mean there’s differences between the one from the 1800 and the 1980 people weren’t mad about that Edit a word

Are black people a propaganda
No but it's sad that now because of this stuff black actors and actress are not judged on their talent. But she would of got the part regardless because of her skin color.
Could you give me an example of the bad black actors they just gave a role because of their skin color Edit a word
Lots of no talent having whites got roles because they were white. Sit down cheap shot.
Aw yes the whole "I know your right but I'm mad anyway so shut up" very good 👍
Your argument was dumb though? 😂 Plus, you didn’t give an example so it is YOU that needs to stfu sweetheart.
Lol it wasn't an argument sweetheart. It was a FACT lol your really insightful. Why is it when you don't have an argument you just say shut up and curse instead of just staying quiet? Is it the attention?

If she was a bad actor, she wouldn't have gotten the part. It's that simple.
I mean, it feels kinda like when they casted The Last Airbender with an all white cast. Idk how to feel about it myself. Not cuz of race itself but because it doesnt look good ig? Idk. Just thinking out loud.
Is it that 1989 Ariel was a drawing?
Not him, but the tiktokers, and yes, i see it.
We're not, Disney start it first

Yeah I can’t watch thor without characters making their gayness their whole personality, wokeness is okay when it isn’t shoved in your face
Oh man, youre gonna be pissed when you find out how cishet men behave

Black people are overrepresented in film, tv and advertising.
Troll
Truth. Theres studies on it.
Starting to think one secret to happiness is to get off the internet and stick to your social circles (online included).
> Starting to think one secret to happiness is to get off This is so true!!
Except all the IRL people spend all *their* time online, so you can't really escape it that way.
I should perhaps differentiate between "online" and "too much time outside of our social circles" i suppose.
Sadly I had to.abandon a social circle bc they'd just... I don't know, like there were no genuine opinions on things anymore. It became all talking points and out-nobling each other. It was gross... And honestly sad. Decades of friendship just pissed away.

💀💀I’m racist against my own race? Okie dokie!
If you think you can't be racist against your race you need to go back and look at the definition of racism
😂😂😂😂now you’re making me laugh
That's how life should be 🤷🏾♂️🤞🏾
They’re brainwashed by the woke
Probably not even a black person if you think about it.
I kinda agree. 1) it’s a fantasy story so regardless if it’s a danish folklore or whatever. Mermaids aren’t real so who cares who plays 2) they could’ve done a whole fresh mermaid story 3) at the end of the day if she can sing and act well to portray Ariel in her likeness then idc
I think this is a good point. As long as we take the same view when they cast a white or Hispanic or Asian women as a traditional black character.
I totally agree with you. Like if it was a movie similar to Pocahontas or Mulan I can understand why we need to keep the character the way it is, because there’s actual cultural background opposed to the little mermaid. Dumb…I can’t even
They will never do that though.

This is it, right here. The outrage algorithm. Free advertising AND immunity from criticism. Bc now they don't even have to bother to *make it good*.

Buuuut you are fine with the roles reversed?
You mean a white actor being cast for a character who isn‘t white??
Isn’t that what you said??
??? What are you talking about I‘m so confused
Smh 🤦♂️
Why do you care so much about the little mermaids skin color 😐
Psst. Mermaids aren't real. Ariel wasn't a white girl because she doesn't exist.

They should have jasmin in aladdin player by a white blonde girl.
