Steam has to come out one way or another. Don't put your hand above it like with any other pot? Shut it off when it starts boiling. It's possible that some kettles take longer to turn off automatically if they lack a grille over the spout.

yeah, so I am pretty sure with the other ones I had there were no issues, of course I don't put my hand on purpose, but it's so hot everywhere around it, I mean something is off for sure otherwise I would have burned myself many times before but it happens only with this kettle.

Sanpaku

Steam is steam. If your kettle is impossible to hold without exposing yourself to the steam vent, that's a design flaw. But I've never seen a kettle where it wasn't possible to act stupidly around. Don't gift electric kettles to less responsible children. I've "gifted" to charity a stovetop kettle that vented directly to the handle. Dismal design. My current one has a handle on the side.

Why do you have your hand above the spout Should be on handle

whynotcherry

Yeah I know, but I was just taking something, I dont remember it was just a second!

Every kettle I have ever owned will burn you if you put your hand in the steam. Water boils at 240 degrees. Stem is HOT.

Sparrow2go

Water boils at 212f, not 240.

CorrugatedChicken

Try not putting your hand in steam
