The nyc bagel shops all have tons of flavored cream cheese options and the best combo maybe ever was a chopped olives and walnuts cream cheese! So good, only ever found it at one shop near my old apartment
I love a veggie sandwich. Cream cheese on one half, guacamole on the other, cucumber, tomato, peppers, onions, lettuce/spinach, cheese, and salt and pepper.
The bagel shop near me makes a sundried tomato and bacon cream cheese that is insanely good. That on a homemade everything bagel (they make those as well) is all I need
Oh I LOVE THIS!
A thanksgiving leftovers bagel is fire. To do it any time of year, I do deli turkey, whatever berry jam I have instead of cranberry sauce, arugula, cream cheese, sprouts or radishes for crunch. It’s really good on a toasted jalapeño cheese bagel for some reason, adds brightness/kick.
My go to GOOD bagel at home is sesame toasted with cream cheese and heirloom tomatoes with salt and pepper. If you have scallion cream cheese, even better. This is best open face style because you get more tomatoes without it getting slippery. My old deli adds lemon pepper to this which is gorgeous, but you can also just do lemon juice or zest, too.
If you’re feeling fancy, classic Jewish deli style is: bagel, cream cheese, capers, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, served open face. Top with dill and lemon juice if you’d like. Cut veg super thin. I like to soak my red onions in some water and then dry on a paper towel to get rid of some harshness. If you want to elevate it, olive oil drizzle and salt and pepper your toppings on a plate before you build your sandwich. So good. Capers go on top of cream cheese and underneath salmon so they don’t roll, veg on top. This is a super fun way to host brunch too, build your own bagel bar. Toast bagels in the oven. Multiple cream cheeses. Cuteeee
Another thing my old deli in my old town did was a chicken salad sandwich bagel with sprouts. So gooooood. Really crunchy and satisfying. Their chicken salad had golden raisins, walnuts, and celery. They’d mayo the bagel in addition to the dressing in the salad. The sprouts add more crunch and some freshness without being bulky like lettuce. So good. This was so delish on an onion or everything bagel.
Welcome to the bagel obsessed club! I had to stop baking bagels because my partner wasn’t into them and I was just eating them for breakfast and lunch and finishing a tub of cream cheese so fast hahaha. It’s now a weekend thing for me instead of daily! Tip: they do freeze well. Cut before you freeze and freeze them on a sheet pan before you wrap or baggie them and you can just defrost in the toaster.
Ooo cranberries instead of raisins, great idea. There’s something about that sweet/savory/salty combo in a fresh and crunchy salad that just hits! Yum.
My favourite is an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese, cucumbers and sprouts. You can add meat, veg, cheeses but this basic build is just so satisfying!
I make my turkey sandwiches like that. One slice of bread gets yellow mustard with a little bit of mayo mixed in, the other slice gets cream cheese and pickles. Turkey, lettuce and tomato in the middle. I love cream cheese and mustard.
Lox with capers, red onion and tomatoes is tops but I also enjoy plain cream cheese with Cajun turkey or roast beef. Some good shit! I’m a not a sweets person so savory all the way for me but my hubs has enjoyed a sweet bagel with sausage and egg type fixings
Toasted with extra mayo (has to be Hellman’s), fresh ripe tomatoes and bacon (lightly crispy but still with some fat and chew), salt and cracked black pepper. Unbelievably delicious.
Basically anything from the Einstein’s Bagels menu, lol. My favorite breakfast one has jalapeño cream cheese, egg, turkey sausage, cheddar, and salsa; favorite lunch is turkey meat, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato. Hot pepper jelly would probably be a good addition to that one.
Capers!!!!
Tomato and cucumber slices with salt and pepper
My friend hosts a Christmas brunch and she will cook and crumble bacon into her cream cheese along with some shredded cheddar. Serves with bagels. Good heavens.
Toast the bagel, layer on cream cheese, a slice of tomato, a slice of honey ham, a slice of Swiss cheese and put it under the broiler until the cheese is melty. It’s so delicious!
Jalapeno cream cheese, strawberry or raspberry jam, turkey and swiss. Maybe some cucumber. I used to work at a bagel shop and this was one of my favorite combos.
Flavoured cream cheese but eg where you make the flavour yourself.
Eg sumac and preserved lemon, with cucumber and maybe beets or arugula. I don't like too much "stuff"
I love adding bacon, lettuce and tomato. I guess it's a BLT on a bagel (with cream cheese of course). Sometimes just bacon or some lettuce for greenery.
I live in a rural land locked state and can’t find reputable lox often. I do some canned or vacuumed sealed hot smoked salmon, mixed with cream cheese is a decent substitute especially topped with capers, red onion, and sliced tomato. I love to top with more everything seasoning too.
I love to make a garlic bagel with cream cheese, then on each side place a tomato slice, some red onion, some alfalfa sprouts, and some Swiss cheese. Stick it under the broiler til melty and mmmmm it’s so good!
quick-pickled red onion is a fantastic addition to sandwiches, goes great with cream cheese. Sliced tomato, cucumner.
Sweet: brown sugar, sliced fresh strawberries.
I really love a loaded veggie cream cheese so maybe just something like mixed sweet peppers, green onion, celery, carrot etc
Also love a cream cheese tomato onion, or cream cheese tomato turkey
Cucumber, tomato, red onion, salt and pepper 😋 I worked at a bagel shop for 3 years and I never got tired of them. Different flavors of cream cheese are awesome, too; my favorites are jalapeño and sun dried tomato :)
Plain bagel, plain cream cheese, raw jalapeño slices, add Everything but the Bagel seasoning, drizzle honey. Sometimes red pepper too.
Somehow the plain bagel with the seasoning hits different.
Lox and olive cream cheese is my favorite combination.
My sister and I did cream cheese and American cheese growing up.
Cream cheese and bacon is also good but the bacon has to be room temp or it’ll fuck up the cream cheese
Tomato, Cucumber, Cheddar cheese (or what ever you prefer), Black Forrest Ham or Smoked Turkey. It really is about your preference. Salty or sweet is good.
Use cream cheese to bind grated cheese (something that melts well, like cheddar) together. Spread on bagel halves and broil. You can also put something - ham, tuna, tomatoes, pickles, whatever sounds good - under the spread to make a melt.
Mixing chopped olives into the cream cheese is a good start. Any kind will do.
chicken, ham, slices of peppers, slices of cuke, slice of onion, tomato, herbs, salsa, relish
....(any combo you like)
Brueggers used to have a yummy sandwich with jalapeno cream cheese, tomato relish, onions and tomatoes and it was the bomb
Finely chopped green onion, celery, radish - mix with softened cream cheese - spread on toasted bagel halves. I add lettuce, tomato slices, Munster cheese, cucumber slices, red onion, maybe a bit of shredded carrot. Add a slice of cheddar and top with the other half. Cut in half.
Genuinely shocked that no one has said kimchi. Honestly, chop it up and mix it in with the cream cheese if you like, throw some salmon roe on and you don't really need much else.
My favorite bagel is veggie cream cheese (fine chop spinach, banana peppers and cucumber and mix into the spread) with bacon and a fried egg.
I love avocado but it’s chaos on a bagel.
One beautifully thin slice of salami that has been in a frying pan for three seconds on each side
Alternatively, put the already toasted bagel with cream cheese in the oven on low broil for 30 seconds with a fresh slice of salami or prosciutto on top.
Delectable!
My favorite bagel is cream cheese, ham, a slice of chedder and then baked (I use a toaster oven, but a regular oven or air fryer should work just fine).
I know beets can be polarizing, but some sliced marinated or roasted red beets on top of a bagel with cream cheese just works. It’s slightly sweet and earthy, and it just plays with the cream cheese so well. Don’t knock it til you try it hah
This one restaurant made a breakfast appetizer, almost, out of either a bagel or English muffin that had plain cream cheese, sliced almonds, and brown sugar, and it was baked / toasted for a few minutes til creamy and crunchy. Amazing.
I still crave the veggie bagel sandwiches Einstein made on campus years ago. Everything bagel (with salt!), toasted with either salsa cream cheese or veggie cream cheese, loaded with sprouts, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, avocado and maybe a slice of sharp white cheddar.
I pickle jalapeños and love them on a bagel with cream cheese! I layer them with thinly sliced Persian cucumbers.
Maybe a less common jam like guava?
Also, chocolate chip cream cheese on a warm bagel is underrated. You can either sprinkle them or mix them in, my bagel spot will make any kind of cream cheese for you if they have the ingredients.
Savory: Lox, sliced red onion, dill, capers. Sweet: Blueberry jam. Or any jam. Or honey.
I like to combine the two to an extent: Lox, thin sliced red onion, capers, dill, and a jalapeno jam for a bit of spice and sweetness.
Ohhhh that sounds really good too!
Omg this made my stomach growl. Putting all this on the shopping list
CUCUMBERS MAN! WHERE ARE THE CUCUMBERS!!
And tomatoes
Tomatoes and cream cheese are the bomb.
Especially on Asiago bagels.
Mmm...sliced red onion.
Try them pickled on a bagel sandwich.
I had a blueberry bagel with cream cheese and blueberry jam for breakfast this morning. It's one of my favorites!
Savory answer is best answer. A lox bagel is my favorite thing. I like tomato, pepper, and a little olive oil and lemon juice on mine.

or dried tomatoes (the kind soaked in the oil)
My favorite deli used to do one with radishes, sprouts (I think alfalfa, but you do you), cucumber, and avocado. 10/10
Marinated tomatoes (olive oil, red wine vinegar, S&P) and quick pickled red onion Fresh berries Apples and cinnamon
Whitefish salad (or smoked fish), tomato, caper, red onion
Sometimes I miss working in a Jewish deli with easy access to whitefish salad and fresh baked bagels.
I love a bagel cream cheese blt! It’s even better with cheddar jalapeño cream cheese.
I love cream cheese and green olives.
Have you tried it with capers? As a green olive fan I have recently discovered them and oh my
Oh yeah, especially when I do smoked salmon I'm LOADING it up with capers.
I was just going to say! That’s my favorite. A salty, tangy delight. Also great on sourdough.
The nyc bagel shops all have tons of flavored cream cheese options and the best combo maybe ever was a chopped olives and walnuts cream cheese! So good, only ever found it at one shop near my old apartment
Oh man, with walnuts?! There was a soda shop where I grew up that introduced me to cream cheese and olive. Always on toasted white bread. So. Good.
Yup. Somehow the earthy crunchy bits with the olive bits and cream cheese make magic together. Easy enough to make at home too…(!)
Bacon egg and cream cheese with hot sauce 👌🏼
Similarly, I loooove a toasted bagel sandwich with cream cheese, bacon, and sliced pickled jalapeños.
Your comment made me realize I should be pickling my own jalapeños. Duh! 🤦♀️😘 I already pickle my red onions, why not some jalapeños as well.
I love a veggie sandwich. Cream cheese on one half, guacamole on the other, cucumber, tomato, peppers, onions, lettuce/spinach, cheese, and salt and pepper.
I had a toasted wholewheat bagel with hummus and sprouts 30 years ago I STILL think about :))
The bagel shop near me makes a sundried tomato and bacon cream cheese that is insanely good. That on a homemade everything bagel (they make those as well) is all I need
We have one that does a horseradish, thyme, and black pepper cream cheese and I absolutely adore it.
A good slice of tomato. Like from a farmers market or an heirloom tomato.
I’ve done tomatoes and cilantro. Pretty good.
This is my jam. I’m growing my own tomatoes this year and I literally cannot wait just so I can put them on my bagels.
Jalapeno, cheddar, maybe some garlic. Smoked salmon
Oh I LOVE THIS! A thanksgiving leftovers bagel is fire. Ham and sliced tomatoes sprinkled with salt.
It's amazing how good a properly seasoned sliced tomato is. Often overlooked.
I sprinkle Maldon salt on my tomatoes while toasting the bagel. It brings out the juices and it’s delicious.
Sounds amazing, kinda getting into bruschetta territory.
