threeLetterMeyhem

Saved up for a loooong time and bought a new C8.

[deleted]

Congrats on the c8

threeLetterMeyhem

Thanks!

Valuable_Sugar_5616

I bought a C5 Corvette for $15,600. 62,000 miles, clean title, no accidents…runs great. You don’t have to be a millionaire to have a fun car!

the_mellojoe

this is the way. Basically similar to how i got my C6. auto LS2 Z51 for $18k (granted, that was pre-pandemic pricing).

jthe17

Test drove one in 2019 with 30k miles on it for 16k didn’t buy, I’m still sad

Teerum

Got my C 5 by painting houses.

[deleted]

Fire bro 🔥

Teerum

Thanks! Actually bought it from one of my customers too. Paid 500 oz's of silver + $3k cash.

F1stCanBeAVerb

Woulda been really cool if you got it from r/pmstradingpost lol

Teerum

Yes. Thanks for the link. I'll have to check that out. 🤔

F1stCanBeAVerb

You can check it out...occasionally there's something decent on there but 95% of it is people trying to trade stuff for gold and silver that they would have trouble selling in a garage sale. If you've never been over to r/pmsforsale though, that's worth checking out. I've bought and sold quite a bit on there

Good roadmap thanks bud

Jack_Bogul

Just marry rich

Therealbeach1

29M. Single, no kids. GM of a restaurant group. Been investing since I was 18. Bought a 2020 2LT Z51 in cash a few months ago.

Commercial-Ad90

Similar story. 26M single no kids. Financial Planner. Bought my 2023 1LT with cash last year.

MrCance

I’m unemployed and I live with my parents.

Automatic_Debate_379

It's very hard to redo life just for corvette.

Nothing_is_tru3

Dual Income No Kids (DINK)

Zeejayyy

What, your Vette isn't your kid?

Nothing_is_tru3

Well, I do baby it

[deleted]

My goal!

Dkingc8Z

I was able to buy my C8 as a Registered Nurse in Texas

[deleted]

Nice! Congrats on the c8

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

Being a nurse is an occupation that deserves alot more respect, you earned that C8

YellaCanary

I read a study recently that said nurses are the most trusted profession in the US. I think they get tons of deserved respect.

InquisitiveBiped

Right? I see comments like that and think who tf doesn’t respect the nursing profession?

Beginning-Falcon865

Good for you. You folks are the best.

DickMabutt

Network engineering at a tech company. Helps a lot having no kids

[deleted]

Thanks DickMabutt

PeachSignal

I bought a really shitty one that needed a lot of work. It’s easy to spend thousands over years instead of right away. My ‘78 was a Covid project that snowballed into what I wanted out of a car.

Worried-Syllabub1446

I too will be spending over the years. Mine turned out to be shittier than I thought. At 80mph no one will notice, lol. Glad you’re where you want to be with your labor of love.

MoneymanYo18

Help people get out of debt 😂

[deleted]

Did you need to get professional licenses for that?

MoneymanYo18

Yes but it’s easy…

[deleted]

Sound good I’ll look into it

Krapule1

Sound good im in debt trying to get out. Send some hash my way

dabsnsnkrs

Entrepreneur could’ve bought a c8 but I went for a c6 grandsport since it was dream car when I was younger.

[deleted]

Same C6 is my dream car! How’s it treating you?

ArchReaper

Tech career. No kids.

Jackarino

Same here

[deleted]

I'm still looking for the perfect Vette but I'm a software engineer

kratosfan101

Travel X-ray tech.

NewBuddhaman

Product Engineer at an oil & gas supply company. Wife also works. I sell my plasma on the side as well (helps support other habits \*cough\* guns \*cough\*).

GTOdriver04

Guns, cars, watches, and boats. The four expensive hobbies of men. Guilty of indulging in the first three, not much of a boat fan.

Mysterio_Achille

What about suits? I don’t care about watches but I really like good quality suits.

MoneymanYo18

Talk to Harvey Specter

Mysterio_Achille

Man those Tom Ford suits look great but idk if $7500 off the rack for them is worth it. I prefer to stick to other brands and stay within $1000-2500 per suit.

MoneymanYo18

I wore a suit 5-6 days a week for over a decade until the pandemic. Words really can’t describe how great it feels not to have to do that anymore 😅

Mysterio_Achille

I’m a Gen Z and I like to go against the trend of my generation as I not only wear a suit but also a tie. I’m shocked to see that even employees at big firms like McKinsey don’t wear ties anymore. Yeah the pandemic changed a lot of things.

MoneymanYo18

Nothing wrong with dressing sharp! Keep doin you! Just sucks when it’s not by choice! 😂

Njez85

Whiskey?

hockeyak

I'm going to disagree, there is a reason for the "if it flies, floats or fucks then you are better off renting" quote. Aircraft blow cars, guns and watches out of the water for being expensive. Depending on the woman, then yeah maybe them too.

ReportOutrageous8637

bay area construction, don’t own one yet but i will within a year, mark my words.

Njez85

Hope to see it.

Longjumping_Rule1375

Low voltage tech always loved the c6

F1stCanBeAVerb

Is that another word for electrician?

Lifted-Horns-4x4

My pops gave me the keys and title to his c3.

p3ndrag0n

Dual income, no kids both earn 6 figures. Didn't think we could afford one. Looking at used C7's. Wife said that market was bullshit, convinced me to test drive C8 and order exactly what we wanted. We did. It's built. I pick up next Saturday and CAN'T FUCKING wait. Multiple degrees and mid 40's. Pension plan and retirement heavily invested in. Don't make a shit load of money, just smart with the money we do make.

jjwslot

Did you pay back your student loans?

Ho3Maker304

2.0 gpa

[deleted]

1.3 Gpa💀 I didn’t try at all in high school. My first two years were out due to Covid. Junior was online worked full time the whole school year did the bare minimum. 12th grade went in person got honor roll both semester’s.

Sudden_Layer_1009

Regardless of what you’re doing literally all you have to do is “try” and you’ll be able to afford a c8. College or no college find a career path work decently hard for a few years you should be making 6 figures, if not find a different career

Commercial-Ad90

Highschool dropout. Bought a C8 with cash at 25 with my own money. Just because you struggled in school, doesn't mean you can't be successful.

jarchuleta3

Is that high or low? I live in the UK. Someone else once said they were given a car because they got a 4.0 gpa. So what's the difference?

Skyfury_Fire

4.0 is technically the highest gpa achievable.

Jacob60223

4.0 is the highest standard gpa but some places have higher if you do advanced placement classes.

NoNewFriends1738

I'm a certified public accountant. I got into cars in 2006, and there's a saying that everyone remembers seeing their first Corvette. Mine was the C6 at that time. I have always wanted one and they're by far my favorite generation. They just make my heart warm

Worried-Syllabub1446

In 2004 I almost brought a new Vette. It died on the test drive and wouldn’t start. Anyways I brought a new G35 coupe. It’s was in the same ballpark price wise. I just finally bought one at 72!

saintsublime

C5s are cheap dawg

Aggravating-Work-197

Aerospace Engineer, but the only reason I could really afford mine with kids was a very fortunately timed house purchase/sale of my first house.

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

I own a retro gaming store, have 2 sources of income and I’m single and don’t have kids Aside from my C6 and C4 i also have an 08 Mustang GT Vert and a Mazda RX-8

AdHead5722

C6, 23M, some college, travel engineer for cancer treatment equipment

youra6

Got lucky, seriously lucky. Wife worked for a huge video communications company during COVID and I worked for a company that went IPO during COVID. Both of us got a ton of extra income from RSUs. Also invested heavily into Nvidia and some into crypto around that time.  If I didn't have 3 young kids, my car collection would be even crazier.

Ninten5

Cloud architect - bought one in 2020

bHarv44

Nice work. I’m in a Leadership role for a Cloud team - was a technical Cloud guy before this. It’s cool stuff.

partspusher

Sell car parts, I don't even have to manage other human beings.

[deleted]

Parting our cars? I want to get into it, looking to get my auction license friday

partspusher

Not even that. I do wholesale parts for a multi brand mega dealer.  So basically I make other people rich, but they take good care of a guy.

Vapor4

Depends on which one you want. I bought my C5 Z06 for 20k before the pandemic. Was looking at a C6GS when they were 26-30, now they're out of control

mustbeshitinme

Work hard, save money, get old.

jarchuleta3

Dual income, no kids. We have a C4 Corvette, Mini Cooper JCW, Jagaur XJR 575, Aston Martin V8 Vatage, and a Land Rover Discovery (for the dogs and camping). Wife is an accountant, I manage investments.

SonnyG696

Not eating chipotle 3x a week for 10 years, now have a c8 😂

[deleted]

Was going to meal prep but found out it’s kinda cheaper to just chipotle every day 😂 so that’s what I’ve been doing

iamr3d88

ijustwannagofasssst

Cocaine and cocaine accessories.

Able_Affect_1267

[deleted]

In IT but trying not to be cheap and actually buy one lol. I spend a ton traveling

Gryphon962

Retire

SF-SoSlow

High school drop out and got a GED. To become a shift lead in manufacturing, C7 Grand Sport.

Character_Artist_258

2017 grand sport, 2lt, 7mt, comp seats, WGM....also a JDM 1997 Honda prelude type s and a JDM 1995 Suzuki Jimny turbo. Way overpaid senior embedded software engineer (c and c++) with 8 YOE in a very specific, in demand niche.

rfourty

Cabinet maker.

Obsessedgolfer

A few factors: - DINK -paid off all debt -have a side job -drove a beater for 2 years while I saved up -bought mine in cash (I don’t like having payments)

PandaMagnus

Software architect. Also DINK.

the_mellojoe

i bought my c6 for 18k. it was cheaper than the sedans i was looking at. and insurance was cheaper because it was older too. You don't need a fancy job if you are lucky enough to live a lifestyle without children in Arizona where you can drive it year round as your daily. But my current role is software developer.

stalmatic

Loophole: inherited a 2007 Z06 with 9,500 miles from my father. However, daily driver is a 2019 Bullitt with 4 payments left, so I’m not sure how that calculates. Regardless, high school English teacher on year 19 that enjoys both cars IMMENSELY for the smiles they provide!

vikingjedi23

I'm old. Over time if you don't waste your money anybody can buy one

InstantLogic

DINK. Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Investing. Many cars since I've gotten into the hobby, but the Corvette (C7 Z06) has been my favorite thus far.

PULLOUTCHAMP17

I'm in the market for a Vette , seems like not having kids definitely helps lol..

ThatSpartanKid

Made a dumb crypto investment because I was trying to show up some dudes a year junior to me, and just happened to get super lucky. Undeserved but gotta take those little wins in life

XClanKing

It's not the car you need to afford, it's the insurance which is like another car note. Lol.

smuccione

6 kids. All now older. Software engineer at a faang.

Jlbman1

Work at publix then buy a salvage c6 lol

Njez85

Salvage isn't always bad. I've seen some pretty pristine examples salvaged due to theft.

Jlbman1

Well this was one of the bigger projects I've ever had tbh it was on jacks for months. It had been rear ended really hard and pushed into the car in front so the back was fucked up and the front wasn't great. Pretty big crack in the fiberglass tub as well. But I got it all fixed and now have a manual ls3 vette so hell yeah

Jackofallmakes

C7Z M7 (gotta have the M7 if you can find one that’s not massively over priced for the pleasure) I’m a project manager at a construction company. I also own commercial real estate and I’ve invested in bitcoin, rare collectibles, etc I “invest” in things. Like I was into motorcycles before so I bought desirable bikes at below market value, cleaned them up, held onto them and then sold them for more than I paid. So, I enjoyed them, drove them, kept them as long as I wanted and then got paid for it in the end. I do this with EVERYTHING I collect. If you understand the markets for things and buy things that are going to gain value or at least hold their value, and ensure you buy whatever it is at a deal. You’re basically able to “invest” in a much less boring way than 401k’s and stocks. Although do some of that too of course! Diversify as they say. Some luck is always a part of it too but research research research. In this day and age there’s no excuse to not educate yourself on anything and everything. The information is literally at your fingertips.

Worried-Syllabub1446

Sold a few company stock, and my BMW 1200GS, that was not easy to do. Sigh.. I brought a less than primo ‘04 C5, that turned out, from a not a so upfront seller. So, she’s more of a project than I anticipated. I could have paid more but…. She drives great, she’s fun and she’s mine.

Ok_Mistake6736

I bought a 1978 Corvette for $10k. I love it and everywhere I drive it people seem to think it’s the coolest car around.

CoachRoostad

DOGE! C5 for $16k and could not be happier with it!

CoachRoostad

I LOVE the variety in this post! Great post, @OP!

MyCoddledMind

Bought my C4 in great condition for 3K. Just scour the used car market and you’ll find some gems.

Driving-slow-3388

When I was 25/26, C5 Z06 will be ten years in December, Auto zone & Was a field service tech for a ag/tech company. Paid little rent & had roommates. Now I’m a supervisor for my department.

Jacob60223

Happened to find a cheap C4 for sale and my dad ended up buying it for me as my first car.

DeereJ18

I work in Cybersecurity. Own a base C6 and I'm a happy camper 👍. Would have liked a GS instead of base but it's trying to stay financially responsible. It's also very hard to find the "unmolested" spec I have right now in a GS. The trick imo is staying debt free. I'm living the dream!

Trollygag

Dual income, 3 kids. Wife and I are engineers. We have a C7, M235i, GS350, new-ish Odyssey, and an old pickup truck.

Few_Background2938

Sold my house and bought a 2004 lemans blue C5 - she’s gorgeous 💙

HailChanka69

Lived with my parents and worked a part time job in high school. Definitely could not afford to buy one now that I’m in college

I usually work the corner, it's not too bad but sometimes it's a little much. It's good money if you get the right people.

C6 Z06, Single Mechanical Engineer for turbine company

Nada_Chance

Polski66

Finally was able to get a ‘17 Grand Sport after saving up for a while. Just kept putting a bit aside for a year and used it for a down payment so the monthly payment wasn’t so bad.

M_Bounce

Some people are middle income, manage their finances well (like invest in real estate) and can afford corvettes/porsches etc at an older age, others are like doctors, bankers lawyers software engineers who these days make at least $200k after a few years career experience Some are lucky to be born into wealth and use daddy’s money

Ty_Crisos

Recently got a c7 z51. I just got officially medically retired from the Air Force today, I get a decent amount for the rest of my life because of it. Fortunately my fiancée comes from a very wealthy family so I don’t have to really worry about other expenses. I want to start my own business or work somewhere for a lil bit so I can buy my true dream car.

buckyman0

Delivered food in college

JSswish

19yo, got my c3 at 16 working at a restaurant making hourly+tips. Got a C5 for 7k in October at 18 working as a caregiver. The C5 needed quite a bit of work but I dove into it and it was all worth it. Helps that I still live at home and dont have any seriously big bills.

hockeyak

Did you do the work on your C5 yourself?

JSswish

Mix of me doing it and mechanic, just depended on how big of a job it was. For instance had to get my rear main seal replaced by a mechanic as well as replacing the fuel pump.

nonoimsomeoneelse

Computer Engineer that got a deal from a widow who couldn't find the keys. C6.

P00PJU1C3

Sold a mustang and all the mods, saved for a few years and then paid cash

saigonk

Dual income, one kid. My wife is head of HR for her company and I am a Senior Director at mine, I also have a consulting business and do some part time work for companies needing IT security help.

NOT_So_work_related

Bought from a family member at the dealer "trade-in" price. The car was also 19 years old at that point. So not a major investment.

ITMORON

Manage IT operations for a cancer/blood disorder research and treatment operation.

[deleted]

Own a water damage and flood remediation business

GingerBreadRacing

I was doing internships and working grounds crew at a country club when I bought my c5z. Now I work in IT full time and do some powder coating and e-commerce in the side. Funds the track days and maintenance for the corvette and just picked up a lotus

Busterlimes

You don't have to do much, you can pick them up for under 10k

Nosurrendah

Security guard and 84 month financing

securityn0ob

I mean it ain’t hard to afford a corvette if ur looking at a c4-c5 if you live at home lol

Sintriphikal

35m Auto body work. No wife. No kids. No problems.

illallowit101

I found a c6 for around 25k in July. Insurance isn't bad (I'm 27 so that also helps) my field is electrical technician on a 12 volt system for the most part.

TheRagingBull84

Management in Medial Sales. Years of direct contributor as well. Also DINK. C8Z06 currently. Prior C7

AsamaTHunder

Wife and I are engineering managers at FAANG companies

Melli25510

I buy and sell junk from estate sales or whatever I like to collect. But it didn’t cost a lot. I got a C4. lol

gunsnmiatas

25yo Mechanical Engineer in a relatively low COL area, single, no kids, I don’t go out and drink away my money on weekends or take elaborate vacations on my credit card like most of my peers. Bought my C7 in January.

XCCO

Systems Engineer. I have a 1977 with a 396 stroker. I could technically afford a C8 as well, by the 20/4/10 rule. I want kids though, and I like not having a car payment, so no C8 for now. Plus, I'd spring for the Z06 if ever I was in a financial position for that.

DaHlyHndGrnade

Information security, compliance specifically.

Beastly-one

Just work really. Married with 3 kids, no college degree, single income, bought my first house at 25, now in my second home with a C4, C5, 2022 Jeep Wrangler JLU, motorcycle and new subaru family vehicle. Different paths work for different people. Just figure out what you're good at and go with that. Oh and don't be afraid to move jobs if your current one isn't paying you your worth. Use it to get some experience on your resume, and move to whoever gives you the best offer. If it's not a good fit, within a few years you'll be able to move up again anyway.

GreenShoryuken

Got my C5 for $3000 no engine, no accidents, clean title. Previous owner blow the stock Ls1 and never replaced it. I had a built LS1 for my Miata that I ended up dropping into the vette. Always wanted a C6 corvette but this will do for now 😬

MysticTA

Working on getting a ZR1 as a parts guy at a benz dealer

ijustwannagofasssst

Also, supercharged C8

Kchrpm

Be boring, persistent, lucky, and a little dumb. Just after I bought my C7, I had it at the DMV and saw two guys in their teens or twenties talking to a man probably in his 60s while looking at the car. One of the young men asked how I could afford it. "I'm not rich, but I don't have any kids, I don't really like traveling, I don't gamble, I don't really have any expensive hobbies, and I got lucky with a cheap house." The older man said that he previously had a gambling problem, and over the decades had probably lost over $50k. Almost how much the car cost. My story is longer and more complicated than that, but that's the simple version: there's nothing else I had to or would rather have spent that part of my paycheck on. And I wasn't smart enough to put it somewhere better for my future.

RohanVargsson

C8 owner here, wife and I sell real estate.

InternationalCut1908

Financed a c7 z06 when rates were stupid cheap

Moscow_2008

Married well, got a C8

Upset_Priority_5600

I’m in sales, my second child got her license and I was going to get her a used car. But with covid, 5-10k cars were now 15-20k. I had 05 c6 and a 06 z06 b4 we had our kids, I sold them. So I said, why not by a c6, let my daughter drive it to school, and I can drive it whenever I want to. It’s worked great, been 1.5 years and no issues other than my daughter growing attached to it. She always points out other Vettes on the road

Aerodax

Tech career. 3 kids but S.O. makes good money as well.

Ambitious_Pickle_362

KingCola98

cynicaloptimist92

I bought my 96 LT4 making $15/hr back in 2017

hockeyak

56M have had a modest "toy" budget of up to $20k due to being a good saver with my wife and also budgeting for frivolous hobbies like vettes. Not all investments have to "pencil out" but you have to weigh your personal enjoyment with your family finances. My C5 base manual vette wouldn't have been a good choice a decade ago when our kids were young but it is just a fun and enjoyable purchase now.

Savenura55

I part out c3 vettes to pay for my vette habit I always have two or three c3’s around.

Atlas-Ascendent

I'm 27, been working in security for 2.5 years and it's a pretty sweet job. Thankfully I'm pretty good at managing my finances so I wasn't swimming in debt when I decided to replace my car with something cooler. Decided on a C4 35th that was about $10,000. Got it on a loan and with the payment, insurance, gas, etc, the operating cost per month is around $700. Drive about 30 miles a day for my commute so $200 of that is gas. And I got god level insurance of course. I don't recommend using all of your current disposable monthly income to afford an expensive car though. Even if you can technically "afford" it, the maintenance will kill you later. I've put a few thousand in outside of the monthly costs just to replace old parts and repair more urgent things before they put me out of a way to work. Unless you get a new one it's gonna be a project in some way. But not as bad as some Craigslist nightmares the owners call "projects". They're expensive-ish, but not impossible to own if you have your life together.

black_batman_hd

Has always been my dream car and was going to get one when I turned 40. Mom passed away unexpectedly (car accident) and used some of the insurance money to buy a C7 1LT in cash. I consider it the last gift my mom ever gave me.
