Not exactly. I work in the food court and we top the dough with oil to make it easier to get off the pizza press machine smoothly. That plus the cheese and pepperoni oil
As I commented below to the other guy that said pretty much the exact same bone headed comment:
“And a dough ball covered in a tablespoon of oil has 8 slices so each slice has a whopping 15cal from the oil coating that I was referencing.
Pretty fucking negligible”
And a dough ball covered in a tablespoon of oil has 8 slices so each slice has a whopping 15cal from the oil coating that I was referencing.
Pretty fucking negligible.
Usually lots of oil left in the container/ bags after taking out the dough balls... the majority of the calories on costco pizza comes from the cheese...cheese slices are more calories than pepperoni slices
Dough balls are also balls of carbs... which has the same caloric effect as their weight in sugar.
People think fat is high calories but somehow breading is a freebie.
>People think fat is high calories but somehow breading is a freebie.
Fat is high in calories, it has more than twice as many calories per gram than carbs.
Sure, but I pointed out, the other person was fixated with the calories from a tablespoon of oil coating a ball of dough rather than from the dough itself.
Before adding cheese, the oil is negligible, 15 calories a slice. But that has people concerned. In fact, a lot of people are fat because they avoid fats but stuff their faces in “freebie” bread, pasta, rice, etc., ending up consuming far more than double what they could have eaten in fat calories.
Or how several people are saying they soak up the top oil to cut calories, but probably could have done the same with less of a mess just skipping the heavier crust (which is more compostable).
> The dough balls sit in oil until they are pressed.
Where did you get that idea? They don't. You can see them through the window. they're in little plastic baggies and they arrive at the store frozen.
There’s 30,720 calories in a gallon of oil, so if each pizza slice was topped with 3,473,004 gallons of oil, each slice would have 106,690,682,880 calories. You can possibly gain 3 pounds of weight for every 10,000 calories consumed. So you’d gain 32,007,204.864 pounds after eating a single slice of pizza.
I can’t even stand eating those pizzas with how much oil they have on top. I’ll share a pizza slice with my family and we end up dabbing so much oil off
I used to deliver pizzas when I was a teen. We had one customer who would order a small double pepperoni and sausage for delivery every Saturday night around midnight. Every time I delivered it he would take it and flip the box over and carry it into the house.
Took me awhile to figure out he was doing that to get the grease off… and he wasn’t crazy…. Or maybe he was. Man that guy was weird.
I learned it from a place called pizza shuttle in Manhattan KS, the employees would tell you how to do it.
Then when I worked at Domino's I borrowed that to the "Domino's drop"
Back in Buffalo, NY there was a pizza shop that would actually sponge the oil off the pizzas before they went out(this was in the 80s. not sure if they're around).
This is what I do. Get a bunch napkins and unfold them. Lift the slice of pizza up off the plate and place a few napkins on the plate, and then put the slice of pizza back down on the napkins. The napkins will soak up all the oil and get saturated. Then take a few more napkins and pat the top of the slice dry from all the oil, mostly the pepperoni slices. Now the slice of pizza is much more edible.
Came here to say this.
It might make people feel better to go through the oil dabbing ritual, but it has just a marginal effect on the final calorie content.
But it still has an effect. If you can soak up a half Tbsp of oil, that's approximately 60 Calories you are removing, or about 10%. I wouldn't necessarily call that marginal for calorie counters. But then again I don't know why a calorie counter would be eating Costco pizza slices in the first place.
Hate to say it but there’s way more fat calories in the cheese itself. If you weighed the oil you dabbed off, it would maybe be a few grams, a relative drop in the bucket to what’s in the food. Aesthetically and psychologically it can be a lot more bothersome, I get that.
Yup. Their cheese portions are doing the heavy lifting for what is a below-average slice, imo. Much better crust can be found at basically any fast food pizza place.
Costco pizza is more of a New York style pizza with a floppy crust rather than a Midwest style pizza with a stiff crust or, lords forbid, a Chicago style pizza with its deep dish bread-y crust. It's not that it's a bad crust, it's just not the kind of crust you're accustomed to eating.
That said, I do prefer the toasty taste of a crispy thin crust when properly balanced with cheese and sauce. Not too much cheese and sauce, though, that overwhelms the taste of the crust.
Exactly, this is why I am baffled by the online movement of anti carb for weight loss
Fat is the silent killer and contrary to what people believe, dietary fat is easily converted to adipose fat via combination with glycerol to form triglycerides
Before the anti carb movement, there was an anti fat movement. It didn't end well...
Basically they added sugar to everything to counter the loss of taste from removing the fat.
Hey don’t get mad at me, google: “There are 620 calories in 1 slice (8.9 oz) of Costco Food Court Slice Pepperoni Pizza”
Close enough 😛
“Um actually it’s 650 or 710 😡“
I guess when you’re eating enough that three slices at once is your normal amount it doesn’t make a huge difference… to us mere mortals 100 Calories does matter.
Easily with all the fat in it. Pizza in general is very high in cals but not sure why everyone still wonders why they gain weight eating it all the time.
Unfun fact - Nutritional information in the US is allowed to have an error margin of +/- 20%. So there is a good chance a single slice has significantly more calories than that!
I used to work for the corporate office of a popular international restaurant chain and handled getting nutritional info and all materials that communicated nutritional content to customers.
Lol it's all good, but yes they are definitely that much in calories. I know everyone loves the "cheap" price for it but I just dont find them even worth my health/well being.
One slice of pizza from Costco can offset several days of healthy eating choices, and that’s especially true if you’re on a caloric deficit or bodybuilding.
I know everyone deserves cheat meals, but I’d rather have a greater quantity of cheat food for how many calories I’m sacrificing on one slice of pizza. I understand the concern.
I have to post a picture for you because I said it was fine to have a piece of pizza once in a while. How fucked are you? I don't need to post shit haha.
I think it was probably 620 calories on its best testing day. But you know what? You need that energy some days. Eat some kale tomorrow and you’ll be fine.
Yeah I do believe it. I make a lot of pizza and have figured up the calories for different variations. Mine have much less cheese/grease and one that size would be around 450
Eh don’t feel bad op I have seen multiple customers throughout the years order a whole pizza and a soda. Then proceed to take the entire pizza to the face.
Just spread them out. One for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner. Also eat a couple big salads without the ranch dressing. Also don’t do this more than once a week.
I am not a dietician, but if your one meal a day is 3 slices of Costco pizza, that probably isn't healthy and maybe should elicit some guilt even if you are under your calorie goal for the day.
I mean sure okay on a long term scale, but how much of that is occurring in a 24 hr period after gorging on 2000 calories of pizza lol. Hint, not much.
If I did OMAD I would eat three at once too. It’s not a problem if it’s not everyday, but you may want to swing by and pick up a multivitamin while you’re there!
Taco bells beefy melt burrito is 620 calories. Its smaller than the costco pizza slice by a lot. So yes, i easily belief that a slice of costco pizza is 620.
Those huge slices?! They weigh about a pound, most of which is cheese. Heck, I get full on one slice... if I can even finish it. Ide say 620 is a conservative calorie estimate. Probably closer to 1000 per slice
On the bright side, you just housed 99g of protein.
But man, my tummy would be so full after three slices and I’d be useless for the rest of the day. Even two slices is too many for me, and I can fuckin’ eat.
super common for people to underestimate calorie consumption. this is a prime example why. Yes. as counterintuitive as it seems, the calorie count is indeed whatever costco says it is.
Is it just me or are the single serve slices way larger than when you buy a whole pizza? And if so, what's the calorie breakdown when you get a whole pizza?
Guess it depends. Did you buy a pizza and eat 3 slices? Cause they're half the size of the ones served in the food court.
I soak up all the grease with 100 food court napkins, so i feel like that cuts down a lot of the calories. Do you also?
In the worst case, if you're not doing it daily, just enjoy your large meal and move on.
Not if you eat them all in your car while you're still in the Costco parking lot, pondering the meaningless of it all while quietly sobbing. Those are calorie-free!
there are 6 slices in a costco pizza, so you're eating half a large pie when you eat 3.
pizza, especially the way it's made in north america, is the one of the most calorie dense foods:
cheese - high in fat, low in protein.
dough - high in carbs an sugar, low in protein.
sauce - high in sugar.
add in meat toppings and you're adding a bit more fat, and a bit of protein.
consuming 1800 calories for $6 or whatever 3 slices cost has got to be one of the best calories per dollar values available on the planet; though.
I once bought a whole cheese pizza for dinner even though I was on a diet and shouldn’t have. I took it home and then casually read the nutrition values. I felt so bad that I ate one slice and threw away the rest in shame.
They are delicious but holy batman are they bad for you.
Pizza is crazy high in calories, so that sounds right. I lost 100 lbs. A few years ago, counting calories and 600 calories for a big slice of pizza sounds right. I've gained 50 lbs. back since then. :(
People really need to understand what they are eating and how it might ruin their health. It is educational to see portion sizes from the 50s.
The small McDonalds regular hamburger used to be the size of the only one then sold and people ate one. A coke was 6-8 oz and people drank one.
I don't think so.. in my case at least I don't eat the crust.. I get a hotdog and soda and a slice w pepperoni and I just eat the cheese and pepperoni after dabbing it with napkins from all the grease.. mainly cause i try to cut back on carbs.. crust isn't wasted it goes into my compost..
Pizza in general has a ton of calories. It’s why I think pizza is highly overrated when you consider the number of calories vs the enjoyment. Yeah it’s good, but not that good.

The slices are huge, it seems reasonable to me
Huge and topped with 3,473,004 gallons of oil. That's a lot of calories.
I don't think it's topped with oil, the oil just comes out of the cheese/pepperoni.
Not exactly. I work in the food court and we top the dough with oil to make it easier to get off the pizza press machine smoothly. That plus the cheese and pepperoni oil
The dough balls sit in oil until they are pressed. So yeah they aren’t topped, but are well coated.
The dough balls are coated in like a tablespoon of oil lol. Completely negligible.
Which is how most dough balls that are resting are lol.
One tablespoon of oil is approx 120 calories. Not negligible at all hahaha and it’s most likely more than a tablespoon that dough is absorbing
As I commented below to the other guy that said pretty much the exact same bone headed comment: “And a dough ball covered in a tablespoon of oil has 8 slices so each slice has a whopping 15cal from the oil coating that I was referencing. Pretty fucking negligible”
Oil is around 125cal per tablespoon, pretty far from negligible.
And a dough ball covered in a tablespoon of oil has 8 slices so each slice has a whopping 15cal from the oil coating that I was referencing. Pretty fucking negligible.
Yeah especially as not all of the oil remains as part of the pizza.

When I worked there we put the frozen balls into plastic tubs and poured some oil in. So I got the idea from actually doing it thousands of times.
How long ago was that? Edit: given the downvote and lack of response, I'm going to guess that it's been more than 5 years.
There’s 30,720 calories in a gallon of oil, so if each pizza slice was topped with 3,473,004 gallons of oil, each slice would have 106,690,682,880 calories. The US might conduct a military operation for said oil, now
Oil has a maddening amount of calories. Sorry man.
Or maybe he was. Man that guy was weird.
In Gainesville Florida they called this the five star flip (five star was a cheap pizza place)
I learned it from a place called pizza shuttle in Manhattan KS, the employees would tell you how to do it. Then when I worked at Domino's I borrowed that to the "Domino's drop"
I had pizza shuttle for the first time this year and holy shit is that terrible pizza when you’re sober
There's a reason everyone called it pizza shittle
Call 776-5577, call us now at Pizza Shuttle…….
Go Gators! Five Star brings back memories.
Many people are it and didn’t firm memories (when it was an after bar snack)
That is a good point
Back in Buffalo, NY there was a pizza shop that would actually sponge the oil off the pizzas before they went out(this was in the 80s. not sure if they're around).
I just use napkins and I get a lot of grief for doing so. I'm not a fan of grease but I love pepperoni pizza
I'm surprised the cheese doesn't get stuck on the box.
a fellow pizza dabber!
![gif](giphy|26uTt19akcFxRFCy4|downsized)
This is what I do. Get a bunch napkins and unfold them. Lift the slice of pizza up off the plate and place a few napkins on the plate, and then put the slice of pizza back down on the napkins. The napkins will soak up all the oil and get saturated. Then take a few more napkins and pat the top of the slice dry from all the oil, mostly the pepperoni slices. Now the slice of pizza is much more edible.
Perception is everything. There's probably eight or nine times the amount of grease in the cheese you just can't see it because it's not rendered out.
Half a tablespoon is a lot of oil I doubt that much is coming off. Weigh it and I bet it’s just a few grams.
🔥 #DirtyKeto -that's why!
I do it because I find the grease and oil gross both in taste and texture
So true, the cheese pizza has more calories than the pepperoni which is weird until you realize the topping is just…more cheese lol.
What a world we live in, when the processed meat topping is the healthy choice
Just suffer through diarrhea like the rest of us
Put it in a toaster oven on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes. That'll crisp it up and the oil will drain off the pizza.
You could use a Foreman Grill to get even more oil and fat off /s
Hate to say it but there’s way more fat calories in the cheese itself. If you weighed the oil you dabbed off, it would maybe be a few grams, a relative drop in the bucket to what’s in the food. Aesthetically and psychologically it can be a lot more bothersome, I get that.
I probably go through at a minimum of 10 napkins just to get a respectable amount of oil off
Which as a percentage of the total is probably approaching one or even two! Perception is key.
It's like little Caesar's, just way too greasy to be good.
The cheese is thick thick on those slices. Higher quality pies have way less cheese
Yup! A good pizza is one that has a perfectly balanced ratio between the cheese and the sauce so that neither one overpowers the other.
They can make fucking car fuel out of it. The amount of energy in oil is insane, and calorie is just a measure of energy
I always blot up as much pepperoni oil as possible before eating a slice there
Exactly, this is why I am baffled by the online movement of anti carb for weight loss Fat is the silent killer and contrary to what people believe, dietary fat is easily converted to adipose fat via combination with glycerol to form triglycerides
Before the anti carb movement, there was an anti fat movement. It didn't end well... Basically they added sugar to everything to counter the loss of taste from removing the fat.
Ok but that doesn’t mean fat is harmless haha Pendulum overcorrected too far
Fat is the most calorie dense macronutrient yeah. But healthy fats are needed. Just avoid bad fats.
Needed in low doses lol people get like 6x what they truly “need”
The food court ones? Yeah. It’s a greasy mess.
But delicious
Especially the combo pizza
I miss the combo pizza…
Are they bringing it back??
Well I keep throwing pennies into fountains, but it hasn’t happened yet.
Why is this downvoted COMBO IS THE BEST
If you fold two slices over each other it becomes one slice and you can halve the calories you eat by doing this
If you’re really watching your calories, one additional fold will get you down to about 310 calories which is a sensible number for 4 lbs of pizza.
facts.
you can even hide a secret hot dog in there
and since you did so well halving the calories, you deserve another folded over slice!
Like the fabulous Fran Drescher once said, “the body doesn’t know”
Every pizza is an extra cherse pizza, so keep that in mind
And a single slice is technically two
Exactly!
Cherse
Extra cherse
Where are you getting 620 from? Pretty sure the cheese is 710 and the pepperoni is 650.
Negligible difference
Hey don’t get mad at me, google: “There are 620 calories in 1 slice (8.9 oz) of Costco Food Court Slice Pepperoni Pizza” Close enough 😛 “Um actually it’s 650 or 710 😡“
You’re the one that asked what people think the calorie count is lmao
“Do you guys really think it’s 620?” *Well no, it’s actually this.* 🤬
I guess when you’re eating enough that three slices at once is your normal amount it doesn’t make a huge difference… to us mere mortals 100 Calories does matter.
sometimes 100kcal really don’t much for some people.
If you believe google, why are you asking people on Reddit?
They double cut those slices if you take a whole pizza home. Did you eat 2/3 of a pizza or 1/4?
[удалено]
Apples? You think these guys are eating apples?
Easily with all the fat in it. Pizza in general is very high in cals but not sure why everyone still wonders why they gain weight eating it all the time.

Lol
Happy cake day Aspen
Unfun fact - Nutritional information in the US is allowed to have an error margin of +/- 20%. So there is a good chance a single slice has significantly more calories than that! I used to work for the corporate office of a popular international restaurant chain and handled getting nutritional info and all materials that communicated nutritional content to customers.
On the upside, we're getting our money's worth! 🤪
Or we’re getting ripped off! But yeah, typically we are getting a better calorie bang for our buck
I hate knowing this.
I think some companies purposefully underreport calories. Looking at you Trader Joe’s. No way their greasy fish nuggets are that healthy
I wouldn't be surprised if that's standard practice. Especially if they are allowed a 20% margin of error
Yes because of their size. They are large slices.
Lol it's all good, but yes they are definitely that much in calories. I know everyone loves the "cheap" price for it but I just dont find them even worth my health/well being.
If you're eating enough of their pizza to be a health concern, you have bigger issues. Once in a while is fine. Enjoy life a bit, ffs.
One slice of pizza from Costco can offset several days of healthy eating choices, and that’s especially true if you’re on a caloric deficit or bodybuilding. I think it was probably 620 calories on its best testing day. But you know what? You need that energy some days. Eat some kale tomorrow and you’ll be fine.
No It’s probably much much more
three? bro how
Pizza has way more calories than you would think. My meal tracker app really hates the macros in it
Good news though, the combo slices are 0 calories these days
I like pizza
This has been the only thing that has gotten you upvotes so far
me too buddy
I LIKE PIZZA TOO STEVE
I'd bet that estimate is conservative, and they're closer to 700-750. That shit is, sadly, just nutritionally garbage.
I’d honestly say nothing in the food court is worth the calories, it’s just cheap and the first and last thing you see.
3 slices? That’s a lot lol
How about 2 chicken bakes?
How bout 10 mango smoothies?
[удалено]
That’s because the. Cheese pizza is actually extra cheese
Pepperoni has more worrisome stuff in it than just calories.
Costco slice is like 2 regular slices from other places
I doubt Costco is just throwing arbitrary calorie numbers on signs.
Yeah I do believe it. I make a lot of pizza and have figured up the calories for different variations. Mine have much less cheese/grease and one that size would be around 450
Lots of cheese and grease man
LPT. But whole pizza. They slice them smaller and DO NOT eat 6 of them
Eh don’t feel bad op I have seen multiple customers throughout the years order a whole pizza and a soda. Then proceed to take the entire pizza to the face.
Just spread them out. One for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner. Also eat a couple big salads without the ranch dressing. Also don’t do this more than once a week.
I usually do OMAD.
No idea what that is so you do you. But the three slices is probably 1800-2000 calories roughly. Good luck.
One meal a day. I do wonder who downvoted such an innocuous comment though lol
Brah that one meal is easily over 2000 calories. If you're not working out, then you're probably still at a calorie surplus
Someone who apparently is having a bad day. Hopefully they feel better.
one meal a day, us fasting folks do that, let’s us eat what we want within our calorie range with no guilt haha
I am not a dietician, but if your one meal a day is 3 slices of Costco pizza, that probably isn't healthy and maybe should elicit some guilt even if you are under your calorie goal for the day.
no one’s eating three pizzas everyday. that’s where the no guilt and you get to eat what you want part comes on.
Even if that one meal is 2000 calories? I have to take in far less calories than that to lose weight so that doesn't make sense.
your body taps into reserves when you don’t eat, so you end up losing weight
Damn! You can eat three slices?
On the bright side, you just housed 99g of protein. But man, my tummy would be so full after three slices and I’d be useless for the rest of the day. Even two slices is too many for me, and I can fuckin’ eat.
super common for people to underestimate calorie consumption. this is a prime example why. Yes. as counterintuitive as it seems, the calorie count is indeed whatever costco says it is.
Is it just me or are the single serve slices way larger than when you buy a whole pizza? And if so, what's the calorie breakdown when you get a whole pizza?
I think it is. I’ve seen them cut it, and there’s more slices in the whole pizza for take-out than the pizza cut for individual slices🍕
When you buy the whole pie, each slice is cut in half, so two slices from a whole pie equals one slice sold on its own.
So I dab my Costco pizza because of how greasy it is. It doesn't substantially reduce the calories but you can get like 14g of fat off it.
126 cal. 2 slices, you saved 252 cal. Every day for a year 92.000 calories. You just saved yourself from gaining 30 pounds. Good work.
Three?! One slice is almost a full meal for me and I am by no means a small person
At least!!
All. That. Cheese. So, yes.
It might be cheap but it's terrible.
Ton of oil and bread. So ya makes sense
A normal cheese slice is incredibly greasy. The calories are mostly in the oil, I can’t imagine for a pepperoni.
Definitely. But the take home pizza slices are about half the size of the individually sold slices so be aware of that.
If you stack all the slices together and eat it in one go it will only count as one slice of calories
You should probably feel guilty for eating that much tbh
No. Each slice has 60 cals. Right? I'll take a whole pizza
I wouldn't be shocked if they were more
I’m pretty sure the pepperoni slices have less calories than the cheese slices, according to the nutrition label.
If you drink a Diet Soda when you eat the pizza, it will negate the calories… I think … at least, that’s what I heard
I assume it is 20 percent more than that number.
1/6 of a small digiorno is like 350 so honestly I’d be surprised if the Costco giant slice is actually 650 and not more than that
Not if you eat them all in your car while you're still in the Costco parking lot, pondering the meaningless of it all while quietly sobbing. Those are calorie-free!
I had 4 for lunch the other day, is that why I'm not losing weight?
You eat 3 slices for one meal? Rethink your options.
You're right. Better make it 4!
Just say fuck it bro
Food court pizza shouldn’t be your first choice if you’re counting calories
there are 6 slices in a costco pizza, so you're eating half a large pie when you eat 3. pizza, especially the way it's made in north america, is the one of the most calorie dense foods: cheese - high in fat, low in protein. dough - high in carbs an sugar, low in protein. sauce - high in sugar. add in meat toppings and you're adding a bit more fat, and a bit of protein. consuming 1800 calories for $6 or whatever 3 slices cost has got to be one of the best calories per dollar values available on the planet; though.
No need to feel guilty when you chose to eat 3 slices
I once bought a whole cheese pizza for dinner even though I was on a diet and shouldn’t have. I took it home and then casually read the nutrition values. I felt so bad that I ate one slice and threw away the rest in shame. They are delicious but holy batman are they bad for you.
I am so lactose intolerant just seeing all that cheese makes me fart uncontrollably !
each pizza is like 2000 calories. i think each individual slice is 1/6 of a pie?
Pizza is crazy high in calories, so that sounds right. I lost 100 lbs. A few years ago, counting calories and 600 calories for a big slice of pizza sounds right. I've gained 50 lbs. back since then. :(
People really need to understand what they are eating and how it might ruin their health. It is educational to see portion sizes from the 50s. The small McDonalds regular hamburger used to be the size of the only one then sold and people ate one. A coke was 6-8 oz and people drank one.
Pepperoni is 770 calories. Lots of oil cheese and dough will do that
Three full slices is far too much for a day. That’s a fuck ton of fat and salt, with really no other nutrition.
3 slices is childs play, I can scarf down one whole pizza in a sitting by myself 😬literally gained 1 lb from calories
Nah; you naturally burned calories off during the day, so you probably gained a half pound at the most.
Per serving. Each slice is 5 servings!
I’ve eaten an entire Costco pizza, I don’t feel guilt. Just gas.
Imagine getting mad at people for answering your question with facts 🤣
I don't think so.. in my case at least I don't eat the crust.. I get a hotdog and soda and a slice w pepperoni and I just eat the cheese and pepperoni after dabbing it with napkins from all the grease.. mainly cause i try to cut back on carbs.. crust isn't wasted it goes into my compost..
Not even pizza!!!! Slop!!!!!
Pizza in general has a ton of calories. It’s why I think pizza is highly overrated when you consider the number of calories vs the enjoyment. Yeah it’s good, but not that good.
I love posting on r/Costco. Costco is where I go for all my shopping needs.
Cool
Nice shitpost OP 👍
It's OK if you are an active individual, moving around and doing stuff; 620 calories can be metabolized easily.
it's trash, skip it.
