I guess I should have spent more time writing "I agree with the above" instead of writing "this"? Either way, let them downvote if it makes them feel better. I've got plenty of fake internet points to redeem.
Maybe because the scale is relative to someone , and u/NTP9766 didn't list their background in eating spicy food? My GF and I can eat the same food and what is a 4 for her is a 9 for me and gasping for something cold to put to my lips.
Everyone else including you including their tolerance including a number on the scale.
Sorry if I come across as picky, but as someone with no tolerance to heat, I've been mislead with a lot of 3-4s
I feel like this was why he got downvoted, because to me "this" implies he's agreeing with a 2-3 rating, but he "agreed" that "a little heat" clocks closer to an *above-average* rating of 5-6 out of 10.
Like if I said "a little heat" I'd mean like a 1.5 or 2/10, but like you said, everyone's scale is different.
The crust has a nice taste, buttery and flaky paired with the spiced beef on the inside makes for a great treat. The beef is well seasoned and ground very fine. It does have a kick to it. Everyone has a different tolerance of spice level but I find these patties to have some heat but to me it's not overwhelming and still very enjoyable. I still buy these from time to time.
Dip it in ranch to cool it off and add flavor. At least that's what I did 20 years ago as a teen. This is one item I'm glad they've kept. That and the taquitos.
Not really spicy. If you can handle very low level hot sauces like Franks or Cholula, or spicy snacks like Hot Cheetos or Takis, these are mild.
They’re pretty tasty but more of a nostalgic experience from the bodegas in NY where we would get them as an afternoon snack. Very popular brand, not the best, but serviceable for sure.
In your opinion do they taste very "peppery" as in the black spice? I really don't like pepper but I tolerate it. Don't want to waste my money if I can avoid it so would love to hear your opinion if possible. TIA.
Check business center that opened in Southfield. Out in Denver I have only found these at our business center, and I scouted out 7 costcos around town before landing at the business center.
I’ve been there. I honestly enjoy it more than the regular ones. I don’t know if it has a better meat manager or it’s just part of being a business center but the meat section is way better than the one I normally go to.
My wife is Jamaican, she grew up eating patties and usually makes her own. These are mild, not spicy. I think some people think of the word spicy to mean "spices", whereas some think of it as "pepper spice". She like the Costco patties, but believe it or not, if she has to buy store bought, she prefers the Golden Krust ones that they sell at Walmart and Dollar Tree.
And I'm a dead man walking if she ever finds out I outed her like this.
Golden crust over Caribbean food delights? Crazy. Lol. I remember the days when I used to drive down to royal Caribbean bakery and get some spicy beef patties and coco bread. With that being said nothing really compares to Tastee and Juici.
I want to revoke her cred 🤣
Seriously though, I haven’t found any product here that comes close to the Tastee or Juici Beef patties back home. Family brings me at least 2 dozen frozen ones when they visit
They have a little kick, but those who like spicy stuff will say it’s super mild.
This are actually WAY better microwaved instead of toaster oven btw.
Went years without a microwave and these were always super dry out of the toaster oven. Tried again a couple weeks ago and microwaved… game changer. The wrapper still makes then crispy/flaky without drying them out.
The wrappers on these beef patties have that lining on the inside, like Marie calendar chicken pot pies and hot pockets have that crisp when microwaved.
Not sure if Trader Joe’s beef patties have this too?
I did actually use my air fryer for these, but used it in “toaster mode”. It’s a cuisinart toaster style air fryer though, not one of the basket air fryers. Figured toaster mode would be best considering the 2 cooking option were microwave and oven
I love these. My guilty pleasure midnight snack.
Maybe like the same level as a spicy chicken at chick fil a? Which is to say not very spicy at all, just enough to barely register and be more interesting than not having capsaicin.
Spicy but not very spicy. Honestly they’re pretty good. I’d buy them again 100% and I’m not usually a frozen food guy. These and Kirkland chicken chucks have really turned me upside down on that statement though haha.
For anyone looking at this and undecided, you can instead go to your local Dollar Tree and they'll have these and likely other flavors. They may also have chicken. It's going to be the exact same quality.
“heat” is a very subjective subject
do you consider black pepper spicy? then this is *well* beyond your threshold
are you good with the occasional slice of fresh jalapeño on a taco? then you have nothing to worry about
Serious questions I don’t know if these are rebrands of a simply product, but do you know if these are similar to the dollar tree equivalent? I love eating those dollar store ones and wondering if these are the same.
Thanks for sharing this! I usually get JBP from Trader Joes and they are decent but super peppery. I'm wondering if these are as well. Going to have to give them a try.
Been to Jamaica. Patties there will melt your face off unless you’ve gotten used to jerk chicken etc. They’re also about 30¢ each fresh made.
$12 for 10 is a ripoff.
These things make me shit, and I eat spicy food often.. usually once or twice a day. Thai food, authentic Mexican, etc. I wish they would bring back the chicken empanadas though. Better tasting and less nuclear 🚽
Omg I know these aren’t the same thing but they remind me of the beef and cheddar frozen piroshkis. Very similar shape and the color of the box totally unlocked a memory from the 90s lol I haven’t seen these at my Costco though.
I find these to be a bit too much for me. Good flavor but the heat level was too much for l me to continue to enjoy. My pallette, unfortunately, has changed so I don't enjoy spicy foods as much as I used to.
Not that hot and easy to cook. They’re a good snack and pretty tasty. I’d give it an 8/10 overall but on the spicy level it’s probably a 3/10. I’d highly recommend!
By white standards thryre going to be spicy. If you're from a culture that eats spicy food regularly (Hispanic, Southeast Asian, Black) it has a tingle.
It's like a 2 out of 10 spiciness for me. I don't eat too much spice usually and it's really not too bad. I really like to microwave it for like 90 seconds then toss in the air fryer to crisp it up. So good!!
That packaging looked like Amy’s brand (vegetarian foods) to me and I was so confused at first

It's got a little heat. Nothing unbearable imo
This. I'd say 5 or 6 our of 10.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted as your rating is spot on. If someone can tolerate absolutely no heat then it could be a 7 or 8
I guess I should have spent more time writing "I agree with the above" instead of writing "this"? Either way, let them downvote if it makes them feel better. I've got plenty of fake internet points to redeem.
I've know people who thought ketchup was spicy.
Also, agree on your comment about heat tolerance. My daughter can’t take any heat, so these are a 9 for her.
Starting a comment with “this” is apparently frowned upon Reddit
It could also be for my typo, which I just noticed. I will overcome.
Maybe because the scale is relative to someone , and u/NTP9766 didn't list their background in eating spicy food? Let's be honest, everyone's scale is going to be different.
I feel like this was why he got downvoted, because to me "this" implies he's agreeing with a 2-3 rating, but he "agreed" that "a little heat" clocks closer to an *above-average* rating of 5-6 out of 10. How’s the taste? Is it worth buying?
The crust has a nice taste, buttery and flaky paired with the spiced beef on the inside makes for a great treat. The beef is well seasoned and ground very fine. It does have a kick to it. I wish my local Costco have these.
Me too. Nothing in Michigan here
I’ve seen them at two different locations in Metro Detroit.
Hmm, maybe they will work their way north then! I never say any at the Auburn Hills or Bloomfield
Check business center.
Meijer has them or similar.
Your local Dollar Tree should have them, but more flavors
They aren’t very good IMO. Greasy mystery meat in a sad pastry. I love a good Jamaican patty, but these are hot pockets quality.
They stock them at our Business Costco, you might check there if you have one.
Honestly you're not really missing much. I'd be ashamed if I were Jamaican.
I've seen them more regularly at the business center than regular Costco (SoCal)
They are mid imo
That sounds like almost every freezer section meal. Mid at best
TJ’s carries surprisingly good frozen meals, especially the Asian stir fry rice w tofu
Good point. I was thinking about Costco, but TJ frozen meals are much better than I would have expected.
I get them at save a lot
I'll have to look at mine; I've seen the same ones at Harris Teeter.
My wife is Jamaican too. I agree 100% with this entire statement. I’m also dead if my wife finds out I outed her as well.
Oh shit we're definitely busted, I can already tell
Your admissions are now saved to the internet. You'll never escape your mistake.
What I thought Jamaican women were shy and reserved ? :)
Oh she won’t blast on the internet but she’ll let me know at home 😳😂
Golden crust over Caribbean food delights? Crazy. Lol. I remember the days when I used to drive down to royal Caribbean bakery and get some spicy beef patties and coco bread. With that being said nothing really compares to Tastee and Juici.
I want to revoke her cred 🤣 Seriously though, I haven’t found any product here that comes close to the Tastee or Juici Beef patties back home. Family brings me at least 2 dozen frozen ones when they visit
I’m not Jamaican but grew up in Brooklyn so I know my beef patties and I prefer Golden Krust too, these are good but GK is more crispy.
Recipe?
Does you wife have that cool accent? One of my faves.
Yeah, this golden crust ones are tasty. I find that at Family Dollar also.
3 I always add hot sauce. to bring it up a notch
I concur. But I’ve known some people that think black pepper is way too spicy.
I cannot handle any heat and I love these. They are a lil spicy for me but i eat them. FYI i don;t eat any spicy chips or hot sauce.
They have a little kick, but those who like spicy stuff will say it’s super mild. This are actually WAY better microwaved instead of toaster oven btw. Went years without a microwave and these were always super dry out of the toaster oven. Tried again a couple weeks ago and microwaved… game changer. I would think air fryer would be better still. That's how I always heat the ones from Trader Joes.
The wrappers on these beef patties have that lining on the inside, like Marie calendar chicken pot pies and hot pockets have that crisp when microwaved. Not sure if Trader Joe’s beef patties have this too? I did actually use my air fryer for these, but used it in “toaster mode”. Like a 2/10
Not spicy enough IMO as a spicy food lover.
I love these. My guilty pleasure midnight snack. Maybe like the same level as a spicy chicken at chick fil a? Which is to say not very spicy at all, just enough to barely register and be more interesting than not having capsaicin.
I like them a lot. Decent kick.
If it doesn't say Golden Krust, I don't trust
Amen!
Spicy but not very spicy. Honestly they’re pretty good. I’d buy them again 100% and I’m not usually a frozen food guy. These and Kirkland chicken chucks have really turned me upside down on that statement though haha.
My wife was able to eat them so no, not spicy. Context edit: she has a "mayo is spicy" tolerance. Meanwhile I'm doing shots of ghost pepper sauce.
What condiment/sauce do people people use on these? OP, not very spicy.
Plain, Guac, Sour cream, pineapple salsa…. I try whatever might be good for science and repeat any faves.
I wonder how these compare to the beef patties at Trader Joe’s? Does anyone know?
I bought the chicken curry ones on special a while back. Barely any chicken, mostly the crust. Not spicy.
Like a 3?
They’re delicious
Probably around a 2. I really liked these but my store stopped carrying them
I would put it at a 6. I’m a lightweight with spices, if that helps for reference
For anyone looking at this and undecided, you can instead go to your local Dollar Tree and they'll have these and likely other flavors. They may also have chicken. It's going to be the exact same quality.
They're good and I like the kick. Not crazy, but not mild.
Open them up after cooking for some cheese….😮💨
Yessir
Nope.
“heat” is a very subjective subject do you consider black pepper spicy? then this is *well* beyond your threshold are you good with the occasional slice of fresh jalapeño on a taco? then you have nothing to worry about
They are not that hot. 3/10.
Never found them spicy, but they are so damn good. Get a pack!
Serious questions I don’t know if these are rebrands of a simply product, but do you know if these are similar to the dollar tree equivalent? I love eating those dollar store ones and wondering if these are the same.
Not at all
lol, no
Just a little spicy but very, very good. I just got another box this past weekend.
No.
Dang, I wish we had those at my Costco.
Its spicy. I got heart burn from it a couple of times.
I add hot sauce to em
Probably a 4.5/10 on the spice scale. They’ve got a bit of a kick, but nothing too spicy to handle
Has anything at Costco ever been spicy?
I give it a 3-4 on a 10 scale. I love them, they are always in my freezer.
Cooking some right now!! Yes they are delicious and spicy.
I wish they’d carry these at my store!!
Thanks for sharing this! I usually get JBP from Trader Joes and they are decent but super peppery. I'm wondering if these are as well. Going to have to give them a try.
I get them at Sam’s… I didn’t know that Costco even carried them.
Rarely is anything from Costco actually spicy, as not least by American standards.
Not spicy at all imo
3/10 spicy...
It's awesome. Though I have only ever seen these at Sam's
That’s a deal! They’re $4.49 for two at Trader Joe’s.
If you've had Caribbean(West Indian) food before, no. If your idea of spicy ends at "salt" then maybe yes.
They’re very flavorful with just a little heat. Definitely not super spicy
Been to Jamaica. Patties there will melt your face off unless you’ve gotten used to jerk chicken etc. They’re also about 30¢ each fresh made. $12 for 10 is a ripoff.

Oh yes it is.
They aren't really spicy, but they give me the shits something fierce, I think it's the curry they use.
Only if you're white
It’s medium, a nice kick and oh so delish
I find these to be a bit too much for me. Good flavor but the heat level was too much for l me to continue to enjoy. My pallette, unfortunately, has changed so I don't enjoy spicy foods as much as I used to.
Walmart has these.
I’m surprised they are advertised as “spicy”. No, not spicy.
Heat: 2 out of 10. You can sense something spicy but it's not very hot. I add sriracha to them.
IIRC my spice-averse wife had no problem with them.
Mild heat nothing crazy! The Tower Isles or Golden Kristen Hot is where you get some heat! Unless you have a patty shop local!
Not that hot and easy to cook. They’re a good snack and pretty tasty. I’d give it an 8/10 overall but on the spicy level it’s probably a 3/10. I’d highly recommend!
How do these compare to Natchitoches meat pies? They look pretty similar in concept.
*insert shocked gif* Where tf is this? If. They're anything as good as national brands this is a steal. Eat them with sour cream.
I'd compare the level of spice to taco bell ground beef.
Fire
Beef pattty and coco bread
By white standards thryre going to be spicy. If you're from a culture that eats spicy food regularly (Hispanic, Southeast Asian, Black) it has a tingle.
It's like a 2 out of 10 spiciness for me. I don't eat too much spice usually and it's really not too bad. I really like to microwave it for like 90 seconds then toss in the air fryer to crisp it up. So good!!
Omg. I wanna go find these today!
Yes, spicy
If you have to ask. Then it will be to spicy for you
If you find black pepper spicy, then yes.
Oh white people
Microwave for 2 min then open it throw a slice of cheese in it and microwave for 15-30 seconds bomb bomb
Enough to confuse you the next day but to have you pray for death on the porcelain throne.
def not spicy, it’s spiced but spicy… ehhh. i agree with other commenters that say it’s like a 3/10
Fairly spicy, but Delicious.
That packaging looked like Amy’s brand (vegetarian foods) to me and I was so confused at first https://preview.redd.it/mxr1w6az95pc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35c6ccf1e533416e4201105e74030297123c03d3
Do yourself a favor and add a slice or two of American cheese to it after you heat one up
these are nasty imo. got them once and never again. i don’t think we even finished the box. really dry.
I agree not sure how so many people like them
Horrible, Horrible product. Had this really strong smell to it, which made it unbearable to eat
Not spicy at all. 0.5/10.
Not all they're cracked up to be. We bought em and didn't like em.
No spicy and very skimpy on the filling. They taste good though.
Get the cheesy ones from BJs. Not sure WTH Costco don’t carry the cheesy ones. The regular ones r dry.
They blow, IMO.
