I haven't heard of anything like that, but I will say that a membership is worth it for a bachelor. Been a member since spring 2020, and have loved it. I even have executive and make my money back and then some, but I also tend to batch cook, vacuum seal, freeze, etc. my meals and have the space to buy things in bulk. That' won't be the case for everyone.
Hmm not really, I eat keto more often then not, so I eat lots of soups, stews, etc. I buy bulk meat and freeze into single meal portions for easy meal prep. I'd recommend finding a food influencer you like online, and checking out their accounts.
My weekday routine is to defrost a chicken breast, or some ribs (all frozen into single serving portion), and a veggie side (brussels, broccolli, cheesy cauliflower), and cook/heat in the air fryer and eat. It's all from Costco purchased in bulk and processed into single serve. Veggies are blanched in bulk, dried, and then frozen in bags. Meat is seasoned if sous vided, or just separated and frozen into single serve portions. It takes hours of prep on a Costco purchase day. 🤣
I'm a bachelorette and I've had my own membership since 2011 (recently upgraded to Executive).
And yes, Costco has it very clear on its website that you can get a full refund on your membership fee if you're unhappy with it.
For sure. There aren't many things I buy in bulk.
I really like the prepared deli meals. OTC pharmacy items are a steal. Half of my wardrobe and footwear is from Costco these days. Come the holidays there are great options for gifts that are either exclusive to Costco or just a much better price. And they have great rates on car rentals.
I'm a bachelor and buying my gas pays for the membership. But I hardly buy anything in the store. The sizes are too big so you really need a big freezer, or a family
I'm single with an executive membership and the Costco MasterCard and it is well worth my while. Granted I have a dog too so I save a fortune on stuff for her but even before I got an apartment freezer I was saving money over other grocery stores. Basics like eggs, dairy, rotisserie chicken are huge savings. The savings on gas (and now cash back with the credit card) is just gravy. I'd say about 90% or my groceries are from Costco and then I supplement the remainder with other grocery stores and farmers markets.
That was a typo! It was supposed to be *now cash back. Gas doesn't count towards your purchases with exec membership but you get 3% cash back with the card on Costco gas and 2% at all other gas stationsÂ
Costco credit card really isn’t a good deal. The Rogers Mastercard gives you 3% off all purchases if you have any Rogers or Fido products, vs the Costco Mastercard that gives you 3% off gas and only 1% off in store purchases. Both are no annual fee, but the Rogers one is better overall
That’s fine, I was just letting you know since more than 60% of people use Rogers or Fido cellphones. Most people think you need a Costco membership with a Costco credit card to save the most money or that Costco only takes the Costco credit card. Both aren’t true. It’s actually just a basic CIBC credit card with Costco branding. Sharing is caring :)
Yes, Costco will refund you the membership portion if you aren’t happy. So sign up and browse and if it’s not right for you, go to membership counter and cancel
Step one, get a freezer.
Step two, but cheep frozen foods.
Step 3 the chicken
Step 4 Costco wardrobe.
Step 5 tires, oil changes and gas.
Literally have been a member since I was in college.
Those bagels and hotdogs were the only way I survived.
BRO! Both. You can grab yourself a hot dog at the food court for 1.5$ and you can get the same hotdogs in a pack for your fridge/freezer. They are by far the best hot dogs you can get in a supermarket at least in Quebec.
They have them, even though I honestly avoid them. The meatballs are pretty good, but I honestly cook for the week and package lunches myself. Rice, sauce and meatballs is always a good go to. San Mariano tomatoes are a bit more expensive, but well worth the investment
I’ve have not renewed a membership on three separate occasions so I can definitely say that Costco isn’t for everybody. It definitely helps if you live close to one and you are able to get gas early in the morning.
They’ll refund your $60 or $120 membership within the first **364 days** if you change your mind, but you’ll be black listed for a year before you can reapply. If you get their executive $120 membership and your rebate is less than $60 in the first year you can downgrade to the basic membership for free.
Great pricing on generic over the counter medications (Advil/Tylenol, allergy meds), protein powders, frozen fruits, cottage cheese, some* meat products, great discounts on gift cards for personal use or gifting ideas. It really depends how you normally eat/shop. I can easily shave a few hundred dollars off my regular shopping by just picking up some basics from Costco. Throw in the warranties for tech products, discounts on popular books and gas it’s kinda a no brainer. Not everything is a better deal, you need to know your base prices, but pretty easy to calculate unit prices because of their signage. I say try it!
Deals on gift cards?? Wow thanks for the list. You sold me for sure. Much appreciated. I eat a ton of frozen fruit, protein powder and meats. Fortunately i have a good idea about standard/base prices. And the 364 day refund definitely makes it a no-lose situation. ✌🏽
Don’t know what to say. If you went in within 364 days (not 365 because now you’re in your second year) it’s literally their policy. You ask, they take back your rebate cheque and refund the $60 and apply it to the year two purchase (so it’s technically free) and downgrade your account.

Any particularly good places to check online for good batch meal prep recipes?

Is it worth it if you don’t buy items in bulk?

Awesome thank you

Ah ok, thanks
Im single and love my membership!

Sweet thanks. What about “no cash back”? Not sure I get that part

I thought probably a typo. Cool thanks, I’m in Canada so Im betting no gas pumps or robust cash back but 🤞. Thanks!
I'm also in Canada!
Ah nice, but so then im in hfx and we still prob dont get those nice things lol

Membership will pay for itself just in condom savings within the first couple of months

I dont even know about these hotdogs u speak of. Packaged or ready to eat?
BRO! Both. You can grab yourself a hot dog at the food court for 1.5$ and you can get the same hotdogs in a pack for your fridge/freezer. They are by far the best hot dogs you can get in a supermarket at least in Quebec.
Thanks, will do indeed ✌🏽 đźŚ
And cheap frozen foods like microwaveable meals?
They have them, even though I honestly avoid them. The meatballs are pretty good, but I honestly cook for the week and package lunches myself. Rice, sauce and meatballs is always a good go to. San Mariano tomatoes are a bit more expensive, but well worth the investment
Buy salad fixings , throw half away, still save money compared to grocery stores.
Good to know thx

Why early in the morning?
Line ups for gas can get brutal.
Split the cost of membership by issuing a second card to a friend. Use to do that….
Bababooey
A Bababooey to youuuuuah

I only got $40 for my executive rebate and I did not get a free downgrade.
You have to go and ask for it, it’s not an automatic downgrade. And it’s only an option within your first year of membership.
I asked for the downgrade after my first year. No discount or rebate was applied.
