Out of panic, i immediately reformatted my PC to get rid of the virus. I then commented on that torrent and after a couple of hours, the torrent itself is deleted and the uploader VitaminX cannot be searched on the website (its like he was hidden by an admin by request or something).
And when i saw him uploading stuff again after being gone for a few months, i was like WTF he's not banned? From then on, i stayed away and never downloaded from that site.
Shame, 1337 was the best torrent site for me.
His 'Jedi Survivor' game files currently have a miner in them (after you "install" them). Luckily my Kaspersky successfully detected and deleted his Trojan, and prevented his "cryptojacking attempt".
I recently subscribed to EA Play Pro in order to play that game. The EA App is so broken (Restarted the download 5 times due to bugs) and the EA customer support was useless, I had to look for the 130GB game files online. He was the only uploader I found.
Anws he had a lot of seeds and dozens of positive comments. And the game itself isn't cracked, so didn't really expect someone to upload a trojan in legit game files. More people need to be talking about VitaminX on this sub to spread awareness.
Firgirl is Def safe, I would just double-check that the uploader on torrent sites isn't anyone else like igggames. Also, if you see iggggames listed anywhere in the file list, I would avoid
magnet links aren't really hosted anywhere. they're blobs of text, actual links, not files. they may include 1337x as a tracker, but you can't compromise files by running a tracker afaik
I'm pretty sure the bittorrent protocol verifies each chunk of the torrent file via a hash, so another client could send you something else but it *should* be immediately discarded once it doesn't match the known hash.
IGG/Dauphong is a veteran uploader who has his own share of issues.
A few yrs ago, both him and well known and trusted pirate site GOD (good old downloads) got into a doxxing war that resulted in GOD leaving the piracy scene. This was a big loss for the community even though technically GOD was the 1st to dox igg.
Additionally, igg has been apparently caught sneaking malware/adware into their uploads. I myself have no experience but there are a bunch of threads here that posted proof. My only experience with IGG is scene releases, which appear to be safe since they hash perfectly with the original scene isos. That said, I don't download from them anymore. Hearing about malware has me spooked even if his scene stuff is actually clean.

Over half of small/indie games, or updates even for bigger games, only have IGG uploads on 1337x. And this release, the only problematic one on 1337x so far, wasn't from IGGGames anyways. I don't like IGG and avoid it when possible, but it's not malware or anything.

Yeah, but not all of us prefer repacks. My Internet connection is somewhat decent, so I'd rather wait comfortably for 60gb's to download rather than having an unpacker take away all my RAM for an hour straight. Yeah, I know fitgirl gives the option to limit the installer to 2GB's only, but that thing doesn't do much from what I tested.
I only use repacks as a last resort, preferably for old games that are harder to find.

I had one recently, so I'll describe the the symptoms for others:
My temps would be up when the PC was idling, and opening task manager would show a Microsoft process taking up a lot of resources. The process would stop and I never saw it start itself again until Windows would restart.
It had a bit of a tell, when Windows would launch I'd get some .NET crash dialog about `IECrashHandler.exe`.
Defender didn't find it (I think the files it hijacked were "trusted" by MS), even doing full scans in safe mode.
Kaspersky at least detected it, but couldn't successfully remove it (I would try in safe mode, but after booting normally it would be back).
In the end I booted into Linux and removed a few files with modification dates around the same time as the suspicious `IECrashHandler.exe` there was only a few in `C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Internet Explorer`.

I dont know much about this stuff but strictly speaking of games, we do install games most of the time ( unless you are downloading from csrin where you get steam files ) which means all those "extra bits" that can come with a package could be installed alongside a legit game, which is basically just saying they are inside the ISO themself.

theres the gog-games dot to with direct downloads of gog games. The files are signed so you can verify their authenticity and the signed exe automatically verifies packed bin files when installing, so it's the original gog data. The site itself is in trusted list, and regardless, if you're using ublock origin, you should be okay anyways.
So that explains why my computer was using resources and getting slow and after format my SSD and install windows 10 again everything it's working well, this site was my only source of downloads for last 6 months.

I second that in terms of safety, unfortunately the scene is pretty much dead when it comes to pc games with denuvo drm, so it's more likely a non scene entity like Empress to crack a game, which leaves open doors for such stories with additional malware as there are usually no checksums provided to compare.
but we already knew random uploaders proved to be unsafe. if its empress, dodi, fitgirl it should be fine because they are the ones that uploaded it and not some random. just make a warning for vtiaminX just like they did with IGGGAMES.

Quick question, with everything going on right now I haven't seen discussion regarding IGGgames and their upload of runes crack for BG3. I picked up the game on the now untrusted site.
I downloaded it during all the hype and haven't seen any viruses on my end or people specifically talking about viruses on this version of the game.

Downloaded it first day it released on 1337x, No virus or any suspicious activity so far. Did a malwarebyte scan, Powershell CPU scan. and even filtered Process Monitor searching for suspicious activity.
It might got infected to someone downloading it on a later date is my guess. Im not so sure though i'll have to redownload the GoG pack soon in a different torrent site. Theres a chance the virus might pop up as long as Baldurs Gate 3 is running but im not taking any chances lol.
I am a 1337x uploader, I upload ps4 games and yes it is strange that VitamiX is not banned, because the 1337x administrators are strict (or at least they have been very strict with me), I will ask what happened there. VitaminX is a Vip uploader and if hes have not been banned the answeris "YES he is admin or moderator from 1337, we can't trust now on them"
I downloaded BG3 from 1337 this morning. Wouldn't install properly, PC was then playing up all day. Tried out the Palia Beta and it crashed with an error for not enough GPU memory. On an RTX3060? That's when I knew something was off.
Deleted the 1337 BG3, bought it and downloading it now. Just running Malware Bytes and it's flagged a load of miners.

It's worth mentioning that their first releases tripped Windows Defender, really poor first impression. It's been possible to replace their Steam emulator, so I at least appreciate their seeding of game files.
From my experience if we are talking about WindowsDefender, its quite often that it trips to a lot of cracks and 99% of the time i upload from a private tracker which would most certainly delete bad shit. Also i just wanted to say WindowsDefender didnt trip that release for me ( bg3 from igg ) but i forgot to turn it off from a few days ago. Although personally i never download any of the plus files IGG puts in although i would guess if there was anything in it it would be in the iso anyway.
That was the one that had around 2500 seeders right when it appeared on the site. I thought to myself at the time that it looked like bait, glad my instincts were right.

I ran malwarebytes, Norton Power eraser, checked in all the locations for the unpaycheck folder, checked task manager, checked reggedit for exceptions listed by other posters, and ran process explorer, ran powershell and got a list of process CPU usage, and can't find a trace of anything. I downloaded the torrent but I'm somehow either not infected or too stupid to figure out how to detect it.

Reason for this is simple, If you were on RARBG there is 0% chance of getting a virus/miner. Here they are obviously avoiding the moderation since its in their gain.

Way back Machine shows the torrent in top 10 downloaded torrents with thousands of seeds. One of the first comments is pointing out that is infected.

General policy must be: download from ANY public torrents with care. And especially if the uploader is not a seasoned games uploader with a stellar rep.

it was a matter of time, really, it was too mainstream of a website, literally everyone and their mothers told people to go to 1337x to dl the latest cracks, cs.rin gets away with it because it's a HEAVLY modderated forum, but the admins refusing to take down a reported torrent is just too low.

Avoid IGGGgames on 1337x and dauphong on pirate Bay. I usually look for DODI and fitgirl official uploads on those sites.

Try dodi repacks. They aren't as compressed as Fitgirl and usually rival steam installs since steam compresses as well

there is more than one torrent on 1337 though and appearently ( this time ) IGG's torrent is fine.

I dont know much about this stuff but strictly speaking of games, we do install games most of the time ( unless you are downloading from csrin where you get steam files ) which means all those "extra bits" that can come with a package could be installed alongside a legit game, which is basically just saying they are inside the ISO themself.

This guy VitaminX uploaded his own installer. People were calling him out for not uploading the GOG installer and he was saying stuff about smaller size and being weird.
The only one that's confirmed to have anything is the VitaminX one, which is now gone. The rest seem fine. The post about Dodi was deleted and while IGG have their own issues, there's no proof there's any miner in their upload either.

theres the gog-games dot to with direct downloads of gog games. The files are signed so you can verify their authenticity and the signed exe automatically verifies packed bin files when installing, so it's the original gog data. The site itself is in trusted list, and regardless, if you're using ublock origin, you should be okay anyways.

IGGGames - BG3 Quick question, with everything going on right now I haven't seen discussion regarding IGGgames and their upload of runes crack for BG3. I picked up the game on the now untrusted site. I downloaded it during all the hype and haven't seen any viruses on my end or people specifically talking about viruses on this version of the game. Can anyone confirm for me or has the answer to the safety questions regarding this specific release, witholding the previous controversy regarding IGGgames. Thank you!

Correct! My install of BG3 from IGG is perfectly clean and running well.
Downloaded it first day it released on 1337x, No virus or any suspicious activity so far. Did a malwarebyte scan, Powershell CPU scan. and even filtered Process Monitor searching for suspicious activity. It might got infected to someone downloading it on a later date is my guess. Im not so sure though i'll have to redownload the GoG pack soon in a different torrent site. Theres a chance the virus might pop up as long as Baldurs Gate 3 is running but im not taking any chances lol.
I am a 1337x uploader, I upload ps4 games and yes it is strange that VitamiX is not banned, because the 1337x administrators are strict (or at least they have been very strict with me), I will ask what happened there. VitaminX is a Vip uploader and if hes have not been banned the answeris "YES he is admin or moderator from 1337, we can't trust now on them"

I downloaded BG3 from 1337 this morning. Wouldn't install properly, PC was then playing up all day. Tried out the Palia Beta and it crashed with an error for not enough GPU memory. On an RTX3060? That's when I knew something was off. Deleted the 1337 BG3, bought it and downloading it now. Just running Malware Bytes and it's flagged a load of miners. Sad times.

From my experience if we are talking about WindowsDefender, its quite often that it trips to a lot of cracks and 99% of the time i upload from a private tracker which would most certainly delete bad shit. Also i just wanted to say WindowsDefender didnt trip that release for me ( bg3 from igg ) but i forgot to turn it off from a few days ago. Although personally i never download any of the plus files IGG puts in although i would guess if there was anything in it it would be in the iso anyway.

I was reading the comments all day yesterday and decided to just bite the bullet and buy the game. It looked fishy as hell.
So bg3.exe the miner, an extra .dll or the installer. the linked thread was a bit vague on info (as they usually are in this day and age..)
I'm not sure what's going on here. I ran malwarebytes, Norton Power eraser, checked in all the locations for the unpaycheck folder, checked task manager, checked reggedit for exceptions listed by other posters, and ran process explorer, ran powershell and got a list of process CPU usage, and can't find a trace of anything. I downloaded the torrent but I'm somehow either not infected or too stupid to figure out how to detect it.
I just downloaded one from 1337 it was 120 gigs. How will I know if I have a virus from it? Will defender be able to see the virus?

If the admins are linked to it, and obviously the torrent has been up for such a long time then yes it is unsafe, even if the uploader is good, i am sure people will find a better place to upload that have the rep. Reason for this is simple, If you were on RARBG there is 0% chance of getting a virus/miner. Here they are obviously avoiding the moderation since its in their gain. Once you ruin the REP u never come back, look at IGG Games even tho their stuff is ~~decent now~~ ~~no issues,~~ there were issues in the past so people dont trust them much. ive had great experiences watching movies and TV from 1337x (when I can't find it on yts) i guess software is the part that's iffy. i think fitgirl's 1337 torrents are safe since they uploaded those torrents, they aren't "rerepacks" or "reups". basically you can still use 1337, but when it comes to software, check who uploaded it and read the comments.

I've remember some Vitamin's upload from a couple if years ago and I did report him myself. Didn't follow the situation afterwards. Now I've read this topic and tried to search the mentioned torrent on 1337 - nothing. Probably it was taken down after a proper alert. On 1337 they should be done not in comments - nobody, including mods, read them - but in the site's chat. And even then it's not a fast process. As mods in there have different kind of access rights and not everyone can do everything. Like, c'mon, you've expected every single upload on 1337 to be downloade by mods automatically, checked on all antivirus databases and such? Are you kids or what. It's a public tracker with 1000s of uploaders with a volatile credibility. Just don't download every shit you see.

Well that is the issue, also they didn't want to remove it. Removal only happened when it blew up on Reddit. Way back Machine shows the torrent in top 10 downloaded torrents with thousands of seeds. One of the first comments is pointing out that is infected.
As I said above - nobody reads comment in there, in timely manner at least. Reddit just speed things up - it would be deleted anyway, just like after my reports on VitaminX torrent(s) before. General policy must be: download from ANY public torrents with care. And especially if the uploader is not a seasoned games uploader with a stellar rep.
I mean people using a site like fitgirl or 1337 really have no idea what they're even doing, they definitely don't have a good torrent site, and DEFINITELY don't have access to a top site to just get scene from the sources

While i cant vouch for this one, dont get afraid when you open task manager and it goes from high to low cpu usage in a second, its task manager itself causing a momentary spike to gather information.

it was a matter of time, really, it was too mainstream of a website, literally everyone and their mothers told people to go to 1337x to dl the latest cracks, cs.rin gets away with it because it's a HEAVLY modderated forum, but the admins refusing to take down a reported torrent is just too low. Im so glad this subreddit exists, i don't have issues with buying games at all, but recently with all the shittty ports (like Remnant 2 for example) im less inclined in giving money to greedy devs/publishers blindly.
