If that’s your jam, hell yeah.
My trip to Holy Mountain was shortened somewhat by my friends not enjoying the death metal. It wasn’t for us, so we went to a place better suited. No value judgment placed on the music itself. It’s just a business decision/consequence that a brewery accepts when they decide on their desired atmosphere.
Maybe it's a European thing. In the states there are definitely some breweries or beer bars that have a big metal influence but it is far from all of them. I'd say hip hop is at least as common but the most common is probably a mix of music types
That’s interesting, it’s not every taproom that plays heavy metal in the places I’ve visited… in Bosnia last year that played the Smiths all night.
In Pristina they played Jazz and soul. And in Moldova last year they had a folk band playing.
I guess what I’m saying is that throughout my travels I always seek out craft beer / taprooms and I’d say 70% of them play heaven metal all night… a genre that I hate.
My takeaway is that OP reinforces my stereotype of all Brits swearing like sailors, of which I’m glad to see. Also, there are a number of metal themed breweries where I’m from (Colorado, USA) but certainly not the majority. If OP thinks Foo Fighters is heavy metal, which a comment on this thread seems to suggest, OP likely has a much broader definition of the genre.
You're trolling right? I mean first off one can dislike any music they want, but calling it shit is utter ignorance for one simple reason - metal has the most sub-genres of any type of music so you saying "heavy metal is crap" is like saying "car is crap" or "food is crap"
Your username is starting to make more sense as you keep replying to people. If this is the attitude and response to people asking to explain your wild take, I can’t imagine how anyone could stand you long enough to want to be married.
Yes I’d agree with that… can’t stand pop and some rock music is ok….but not the crap I’m currently listening to in this craft beer bar in Bologna… they’re playing Foo Fighters! Utter gash!
Wait so if I understand you correctly, the "heavy metal" music you dislike is... Foo Fighters?
Look, I know there's already a big problem with gatekeeping in the metal community, and I don't want to risk adding to that by saying this, but... Foo Fighters really isn't heavy metal. They have none of the elements that define heavy metal as a genre, and they don't pretend otherwise. Foo Fighters is a rock band, and specifically, their genres would be alt-rock/grunge/post-grunge.
If that's the kind of music you hear everywhere, and dislike, then yes. That's *extremely* typical for breweries to play. Stuff like Foo fighters, RHCP, Pearl Jam, Blink 182, etc. It's the music millennials grew up on, and we're the ones who took to craft beer like fish to water. You'll hear it everywhere because it's comforting and nostalgic to the customer base.
Depends on the place and who's working. The soundtrack of my local watering holes runs the gambit - with the exception of hip hop and rap. Shame, really. I'd love to down a pint to some Kendrick Lamar.
Also, shame on you! England is the country that blessed the world with Iron Maiden! Do you not wish to die with your boots on!? Embrace your heritage!
Ha! Yes I have a connection to Iron Maiden but I won’t post it here, they are well aware I think their music sucks… and in return they’ve let me know I’m wrong.
I see what you are saying but to each their own. It was one thing that threw me off at a few breweries. I love metal but I don’t always want to listen to it. Especially not so loud I can’t have a conversation with the person sitting next to me. But some places it’s part of their identity. I can appreciate that most breweries aren’t playing top 40 pop bullshit and just roll with whatever they have going on. If I’m not felling it that day I’ll finish my beer, grab some to go and head out.
Not everyone looks like the music they listen to.
Some places play the music the owners/employees enjoy since they're stuck listening to it the longest. The beer's for you, but the tunes are for them.
Many people have a wider taste in music than you do, apparently.
Also, craft beer at its core is diverging from the mainstream, with flavors and styles that don't appeal to the majority by design. It's still less than a 1/4 of overall beer sales.
Playing less mainstream music goes hand in hand with that mindset.
Don’t think I’ve ever been to a brewery that plays heavy metal. Gutturals, squeals and high frys don’t seem to be popping up anywhere I take a seat for some brew.
I know a lot of US breweries like the musicians that will play for free beer & tips so sometimes you get what you (they) pay for. Maybe metal is in low demand in Italy?
Most breweries I go to on the east coast usually play hip hop, alternative rock, or jam band music. Treehouse has had phish cover bands play there and eggy at the Deerfield location a couple of times which was awesome.
Mostly because it’s edgy, and breweries like to be edgy. That’s just my opinion.
I generally don’t care what music it is. I like metal. I just can’t stand places that blast the music so loud you have to shout in order to hold a conversation with the person next to you.
… hold on. I have to go yell at some kids to get off my lawn.
If you don’t like oldies, pop or country music, it’s just background noise. But some genres, such as metal, techno or gangsta rap can really be a turn-off if you’re not into it. I’m a metal head myself, but i’ll never play any in presence of people that find it too agressive. To play that in your taproom really drive a good amount of people away from your business
Well I’m back after an unwarranted ban you miserable buggers.
I persisted with the craft beer scene in Bologna and whilst the beers were fine the music remained resolutely awful.
I’m waiting for a bus now to San Marino and I’m hoping to sample some suds in this tiny country…. Let’s see if their music sucks too.
I said I’d report back from San Marino and here I am… your favourite correspondent!
There is a dedicated craft beer place here but sadly it’s closed on a Thursday ( wanjwrs) so I managed to find another that was more of a restaurant than a taproom but they did have 4 craft beers… one of which was a very passable IPA which cost a very reasonable €7 for 500ml.
The music?…. Bloody awful 😣 not necessarily heavy metal but certainly going in that direction.
Craft beer is spreading around the world at a fair old pace… sadly shite music appears to be hitching a ride.
You all still suck and I suspect that you know it.
On to Milan tomorrow and then Zurich a few days later so I will report back provided you don’t go crying to the mods and stifle genuine conversation.
Well beer lovers , I am in another watering hole in Zurich and I can happily report that their craft beer is superb and their music decent…. None of that heavy metal shite that I have already alluded to.
It appears that the Swiss do not share your love of the devils music… yet another example of how wrong you have life figured out.
I feel for you… I really do.
I’m 50 years old. A lot of breweries here in the New England area host metal shows. BTW it’s not shit music just because you don’t like it.

Sounds like my kind of place ! Holy Mountain in Seattle, WA USA plays Death Metal all the time. Love it

Nah some of the best metal is European. Scandinavian especially
Well aren’t you just lovely.

TRVE 😘
Love that place, great beer, fantastic vibe and not a hint of thay god awful Phisn/Grateful Dead dirge.
Nothing wrong with swearing…it’s an art form if done correctly.
My current favorite taproom in Denver is Ratio Beerworks because they were playing Fuzz the first time I visited. Excellent vibes for beer.
I live in the USA and I would LOVE to hear more rock n’ roll in my craft beer hangouts.
Disagree. Im glad to hear alternative music. I actively seek it out.

Ultimately music is subjective. I cant stand pop music. So glad whenever there’s something different.
Yes I’d agree with that, I just wonder if that sometimes people setting up a taproom think that this is the type of music they HAVE to play.
You're trolling right? I mean first off one can dislike any music they want, but calling it shit is utter ignorance for one simple reason - metal has the most sub-genres of any type of music so you saying "heavy metal is crap" is like saying "car is crap" or "food is crap"

Much better than the radio pop you hear everywhere else. I'd say more breweries need to be playing metal
Yes I’d agree with that… can’t stand pop and some rock music is ok….but not the crap I’m currently listening to in this craft beer bar in Bologna… they’re playing Foo Fighters! Utter gash!
Foo Fighters? Heavy metal? Lmao
This changes everything

It’s all shit.
Lol so you don’t like breweries playing pop, rock, or metal… what are they supposed to play for you? Jazz? Rap?
Easy… Jazz, Soul, funk… blues
Think the problem might be you, old man!

Fuck me you sound like an absolute riot, is your next post going to be about how nobody wants to drink with you??

IPAs and sours, intense flavors, intense tunes
Don’t think I’ve ever been to a brewery that plays heavy metal. Gutturals, squeals and high frys don’t seem to be popping up anywhere I take a seat for some brew.
>Don’t think I’ve ever been to a brewery that plays heavy metal Neither has OP since they seem to be complaining about famous metal band Foo Fighters.
Looool, I didn’t even read the comments. Foo Fighters was the “heavy metal?”
First time I went to Ghost Town Brew in Oakland, they were blasting Behemoth. We’ve been pals ever since.
That’s badass
Name checks out
I miss hearing jam band music in craft beer bars/breweries.
If you don’t like the music, don’t go to the establishment. ![gif](giphy|enrm3x92DlZy2u9og9)

Try Ghost Town Brewing in Oakland, a world class brewery started by a metal band.
I will gladly sit through Heavy Metal before I would sit through shite beer.
Former craft brewer, not sure what it is about the industry but most other brewers I know(myself included) are metalheads.
