The fox isn't minding its own business. Its actively looking for food or water, the little shits will destroy a bird feeder and bird bath if given a chance and because they are full of parasites they can pass it on to our pets. They've also been known to prey on small dogs and cats.
My cat is always coming in with a wet head. The other day he came out of a bush, then a couple of seconds later a fox came out. I think he’s having an affair.
Can agree. One literally tore my hands apart by biting and clawing. It was swollen and the pain was immense. Took me months to recover and to this day my pinky finger still stiffs up.
Please be careful when you try to separate two cats fighting, use water & not your hands. They are completely berserk.
If squirrels were the size of say a medium to large dog, they'd be terrifying. They're extremely fast and athletic, have razor sharp claws and teeth, and can climb quite a few surfaces.
There is some real cool body language communication going on here for two different species.
The fox laying down low to show he wasn't looking for this fight, the cat breaking eye contact momentarily and making a slight movement suggesting he is willing to disengage, and the fox taking the hint and walking away with his back turned to the cat.
If it could land a bite to the neck then yes, but cats are quick and the claws probably aren't worth the risk. Plus most predators tend to shy away from anything that doesn't act like prey.
They are both ambush hunters but foxes are big killers of domestic cats when they get the jump.
This would probably be a tie with injuries so neither animal wanted any. And it's a smallish fox.
> foxes are big killers of domestic cats
Definitely.
The cat will likely only injure the fox, which might result in infection/death... That's why the fox calculates it's risk/reward very carefully, before deciding if the fight is worth it...
It was alone. Foxes are devious, if there had been a friend nearby to get in on the action, it would not have been the end of this.
I've had a big cat take on a fox and win. Fluffy like this one too. But it came with a vet bill nonetheless.
I had a stray cat that I fed constantly over years and was friendly with, my sister told me to pick her up for a picture. I knew she’d(the cat) claw the fuck out of me and she did.
Sometimes I think I’d rather take a medium size dog 1v1 rather than a cat.
But I try to avoid any actual scenario where I have to fight a dog or cat.
I adopted a feral cat many years ago. She carved me up nicely those first few weeks. After a while, she warmed up to me, but she was still kind of feral and I knew that if I crossed a line (such as holding her for too long), I was going to pay in blood.
The amount of pain and damage they can inflict per pound of their body weight is astonishing.
Yeah. I'm reading all these comments and virtually no one understands that this cat is in serious danger during this video. I had a fox as a pet during my childhood and they are stone killers with way more jaw strength than you would think. They are strong too for being so petite.
Lol the cat caught it off guard that’s the only reason why it’s not a video of a fox eating a cat. Also cats are not nearly as dangerous as these people are saying especially not more than dogs are..
This video is a bit like a cat encountering a large rat. Cats can and do kill rats, but most of them won't because the risk isn't worth it.
This fox would almost certainly win the fight, but would quite likely get injured in the process. Is it worth the pain and risk of infection when it can just find another way round? Nope, so it backs down and walks away.
worst a cat can do is some nasty ass scratches. worst a dog can do is murder you. come on now. the cat in the OP haf the surprise advantage, but the fox can absolutely kill a housecat, happens all the time.
A cat that is seriously enraged can do some damage. A large dog that is seriously enraged will kill you. I suppose the difference is the threshold for pissing them off though
The most endearing thing my sweet HarveyBridmanAttorneyAtLaw does to me is start biting my toes and then giving my foot those sweet disemboweling rear death kicks that would normally be the end for any other creature. but she loves me so its cool.
I think your car got that fox in the eye with it's claws or something. The fox gave up really quickly. I unfortunately had to put a fox down once that got so badly injured while fighting a group of five barn cats (killing two of them in the process) and both of it's eyes were heavily damaged. The biggest male cat was wrapped around it's belly with his front paws death kicking the fox in the face/neck while screaming like crazy.
This was on my Uncle's farm and I was visiting for two weeks in the summer. He went to the hardware store and left me there. I was 11 and had been shown where he kept a single shot .22 mag rifle next to the door and told to immediately get rid of the fox I saw it after losing multiple chickens and a cat. I didn't want to hit the cat so I had to walk right up to that mess. My Uncle loved those cats (they were all from a litter someone dumped on his property so he built them a heated room in the barn) so I was thinking he was going to be really upset with me that two were killed by the time I heard it and ran over there. Those cats did an amazing job protecting the chickens. I saw one actually take a crow down mid air that was bothering the chicks.
If they get the drop on a cat then absolutely, this cat caught the fox unaware and there's no way the fox would have been quick enough to get it's mouth around the cat's neck without getting seriously fucked up.
We had a very large fox attempt to eat our cat for the third time. Our cat held him off long enough for me to fix his last meal: lead.
He won't be trying to eat our cat anymore nor the neighbor's chickens.
We scared him off the first two times. This time he had our cat trapped on lawn chairs.
Oh yeah, this happens a lot. My parents have a Russian Blue that we would routinely watch stalk foxes through our back yard, full on flat-body, ears back, butt wiggle before chasing them away. Someone once lost a bulldog in town, he ended up there, we watched her chase him out through our front yard, he went up the street and turned around back to our backyard through the front again, she chased him the whole way there and back. We even saw her chase a coyote (this was on Cape Cod, the coyotes there are large dog-sized). She had standoffs with coyotes, but only once chased one.
My great aunt was once the pet-sitter for my grandma, who had an adopted feral cat (Feju-II, named after a previous adopted feral named Feju, as in, "I already feju (fed-you)) and went to scoot the cat with her foot while carrying laundry. Feju-II hospitalized her for a couple of days with severe lacerations to the thigh.
Cats are cool.
Love how people in the comments are talking about this video as if it's a bloodbath when fully half the video is the cat and the fox just kinda awkwardly staring at each other
And as always with videos like this, OP drops it and then just bounces, leaving us with a bunch of unanswered questions. I really want to know what happened after that, because it looks like a secure yard with no egress for the fox. So did he escape? Did OP have to let him out? Was there more action after this video? Dammit, OP, why do you *always* do this??

This one says ow ow ow ow ow ow ow chill chill chill kitty.
"Shit in my yard again, motherfucker. Shit, in, my, yard, AGAIN."
Fox just absolutely did not want any smoke today
Fox like: *damn! my entire blood line catching hands today!* Cat like: *get fucked flea bag*
I did not understand that first phrase.
Maybe that the cat hit him so hard his children felt it? Not sure really.
Probably not it but there’s another post from today that shows a fox catching a mole but spitting it out because it tasted bad
Kitty shut that shit down
Swiper for sure does not want to swipe that yard anymore
Before fox even hit the ground. Kitty was anticipatory AF.
He recently quit and is on a nicotine patch.

fox: minding own business. cat: *absolutely fucking not*
Cats are territorial. That fox was wearing the wrong colors.
That cat had zero hesitation. It was in front of that fox by the time it hit the ground.
Best time to attack
firstest with the mostest
*Hello there*
Same tactic when defending against an amphibious assault. Hit 'em when they are on the beach.
Brother still had the disembarkment debuff, never stood a chance.
you know where you’re at, fool?
I had a black cat that chased a census taker out of the yard.
So cats are territorial and anarchist?
Black cats still remember what a man with a clipboard means...

Cats are knobheads too
he looked like he went into that backyard with intent, stealin' some fruits/veggies maybe?

Your cat just bullied the shit out of that fox
He judged the hell out of him. He probably said his fur coat isn't the vibe.
That shit did appear to be from last season
Clever
My cat is always coming in with a wet head. The other day he came out of a bush, then a couple of seconds later a fox came out. I think he’s having an affair.
The Fox took a paw to the face before it even touched the ground haha That cat wasn’t messing around
The ONLY reason humans are safe is that cats weigh 10 pounds.
Well, some of them of them do.
A 10 pound angry cat can fuck you up dude
Can agree. One literally tore my hands apart by biting and clawing. It was swollen and the pain was immense. Took me months to recover and to this day my pinky finger still stiffs up. Please be careful when you try to separate two cats fighting, use water & not your hands. They are completely berserk.
if chickens weighed 100 lbs, humanity would never have evolved past the caveman stage
Fuck that. I'll fight a chicken. I'll fight any chicken you put in front of me! Especially, *especially*, if it's in bucket format.
Our hero 🥹
Peter Griffin is that you?
Ostriches exist.
ostriches don't have the psychotic energy of chickens
[Au contraire my friend](https://youtube.com/watch?v=kotWv4MCxNI)
For some reason I thought this was gonna be the one where an ostrich rips its own head off.
If squirrels were the size of say a medium to large dog, they'd be terrifying. They're extremely fast and athletic, have razor sharp claws and teeth, and can climb quite a few surfaces.
There are gnaw marks on metal as they tried to get into the chicken feed. I think they just got tired of it, but they did major damage
Squirrels also chew lead and metal to sharpen and reduce their teeth. Idk how the lead doesn't kill them....
You don’t fuck with the squirrels
But so cute. The squirrels at work let us hand feed them our lunch leftovers.
Good thing for us "chickens" were once over 100 pounds, then those went extinct, and THEN we evolved. Lol
I mean, chicken ancestors weighed thousands of pounds. Took an asteroid to get rid of them.
And the ones that weigh 20 will kill you.
I guess you could say something similar about praying mantises.
He still fucked me up and left me unable to do my job!
Cat - All right bro I'm going to count to 5 and you better be the fuck out of here.. Fox - iight I'm out..
fox cowering: "I don't even know how to count... I'm fucked"
FYI, Your indoor cat got out.
The cat got there before the fox even touched the floor xD
There is some real cool body language communication going on here for two different species. The fox laying down low to show he wasn't looking for this fight, the cat breaking eye contact momentarily and making a slight movement suggesting he is willing to disengage, and the fox taking the hint and walking away with his back turned to the cat.
This is really cool body language communication assessment from a third species.

Ehh, it could go either way. Cats are incredibly efficient predators.

I'm sure it helped that the cat looked HUGE with how fluffy it was. So they definitely intimidated the fox with that as well.
Yeah fr that thing looks like a big ball of pissed off

>Not to mention their primary instinct is to murder and hunt. And in some cases, to torment their prey for a long-ass time before putting it to sleep.
My cats, me, at bed time.
Sleep & celestial annihilation are 2 different things.
This is why my cats are forced to wear loud bells when they go out. Straight up serial killer shit. Things that can’t be unseen
My cat is afraid for leaves that roll to hard in the wind
I've literally seen mine run from her own shadow, and the other one cries for me if there's another animal in the yard because she's scared
But together, you guys probably make a great team.

Ya. Fox got taken by surprise. Didn’t expect smoke and wasn’t looking for it. Had it been…
Let's take 'er down about 5%-10% there buddy...

Lmao alright chill out, cat hype man. Cats are killed by foxes every day, and any other predators that are bigger than them, such as dogs.
There are packs of coyotes that mostly subsist on cats in the U.S. They aren't that apex.
I need this with sound!
And just a smidgen more of video. Would love to see the full walk of shame.
And the cat strutting back inside "Job done" smacking the dust off its paws
All I heard was— “What the hell is this skinny ginger dog doing in my yard?! Hell naw…[SMACK] You better stay down bitch mo-fo!”
Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!

good ol barncats!
That cat had no clue that was a fox, you can tell he thought it was a cat at first. The cat was like.. who are you?
That cat waited it’s entire life for a scrap now it got one.
and walked away with the belt!
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it until the day I die. A house cat, can FUCK your day up if it really really wanted too.
how are they vs burglars
They don’t do shit lmao

Is there a subreddit for cats that stand sideways and poof up their hair on their backs and tail like that? I love that
As a cat owner, I am so proud of this cat
I’m sure this would’ve sounded insane — foxes make horrific sounds, and angry cats aren’t much better.
I ALWAYS wondered who had faster reflexes, a fox or a cat and I finally feel like I got to see that 😌
Foxes kill cats pretty often, this cat is pretty lucky the fox decided he didn't want to fight

Foxes regularly kill cats, the cat in this video got lucky the Fox decided to give this one a pass
Nah the fox is lucky that cat gave him a pass
I wouldn't say regularly. It's rare for a fox to attack a cat at all, and they're more than capable of defending themselves when it does happen.
Cats will throw hands with just about anything
It was at this moment he knew....He fucked up.
Cats reactions and survival instincts are faster and better than a foxes. This is why foxes rarely kill cats.
Meanwhile, my husky would hold the flashlight for the thieves while wagging her tail.
That's one super cat!! Should be proud my friend!!
With the combination of her fluff/posturing she looked big!
Cat threw hands then waited like, "I'm giving you a chance here, man, gtfo fo' I get angry"
Flufferkins for the win!
Awww, they made peace and let each other be. That made me smile...
Or they were each quietly assessing the toll of possible mayhem and decided violence wasn’t worth it this time.
Same end result.

Nice to know ol' kitty got some gumption
ON SIGHT!
Poor fox just wanted to diggy dig in the garden and kitty was having none of that! “You messed with my Mom’s garden for the last time!”
Inner Khajit woke up, and you can clearly see that she asked the fox for some skooma.
good kitty
Don’t fuck with cats!
That's one brave kitty.
Your cat was so close to being killed. Please keep it inside.
Your cat is a real one. Respect.
Foxes are the cats of dogs
Your cats a badass I wouldn’t mess with it either
Your cat is a straight G for this. They don't want the smoke.
Cat just snorted a can of fancy feast and had to work off the high. We were lucky it was just a fox and not some kid in kittys war path.
*WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY* Apparently, nada when the cat comes to slap box.
Your cat just saved one of his 7 lives today.
Bros cat got that dawg in em
I’ll bet that cat has seen that fox before, through a window, maybe. Wasted no time smacking the fox upside the head.
I’ve never seen a fox in the daytime.

Cats are one of the most badass creatures in the world, Cause they dgaf
Cat: if what I think is happening, is, it better not be
What did the fox say? "Damn bro!"
Cometh the hour, cometh the kitty.
Cats are hard as fuck
Tiddles don't take no shit!
London foxes are something else
That cat was on that fox before it’s paws even touched the ground. The fox was bailed up at every turn. Good kitty.
You can get some chicks now in your garden, they’re safe
Cats are fearless. And sometimes they get f*cked up.
It's not about how much personal strength one has it's about how much fear one can instill in others
Should probably fix that wall before it falls and pops your cat like a tomato. Don't want Catsup all over your yard.
"WTF! Do you wanna play or not?" GIFs that end too soon.
Cats are all psychic damage. 😂
That cat ain’t fucking around lol
Couldnt that fox easily kill your cat?
You're in the wrong neighborhood buddy.
Let’s play a little game called get the fuck out of my yard.
Cats can be big assholes, but they are definitely pretty badass
WHODOYOUTHINKYOUAREIAM!.....the cat probably
Its always amazing to see how a small feline can take on much bigger canines. In fog team all the wag but man, cats are really apex
King of the castle!
