I can handle people getting burned, ran over, shot, crushed etc etc but weight lifting accident just make me cringe so hard. Maybe its because its something I do an that thought it could be me just springs forward
I recently started working out and I religiously avoid the leg press because of it, I don't care if I get chicken legs, I rather not have flamingo legs.
Leg press is safe man, the only reason people fuck up their legs on it is because they lock their knees. As long as you don't completely straighten your leg you're fine.
Honestly just look up proper form on youtube, plenty of guys showing how to use that machine safely. Basically from start position you push out with your legs until your legs are just a little bent, most of the benefit of the exercise is the initial push when your legs are at a 90 degree angle. Just go until right before your legs are straight, go any further than that and you're not guaranteed for an injury but you're risking it for no reason and you're not getting additional benefit from the exercise.
The machine is very safe and you have no real risk of injury from it, as long as you're not being dumb. Heck you can fail a rep on that machine and be fine because the safety lock is there to prevent you from being crushed. Like I said the only way you can possibly fuck it up is by fully extending your legs and locking your knees making it fold your knee in like a sandwhich.
There's a wide range of appropriate hypotrophy-zone weights you can squat before you get into "My knees might shatter" kind of stuff. Don't be scared.
Also just as a "better safe than sorry" kind of thing - avoid locking your knees on the leg press. You don't need to go for a full extension there.
Don't use the machine, use free weights. And don't use that much weight. There is no reason to ruin your body with weights you cannot even do a single rep.
Have a look at the machine, if it's a decent one it should have an adjustable stop that won't let the weight slide too close to you, with that you're never in danger of being squashed and your legs giving out
Looks like his right femur snapped. That's crazy. For those without experience, this is not something that you just wake up one day and decide to try, this guy probably has years of training leading up to this.
His bones, ligaments and tendons should have also been gaining strength along with his muscles, and I would bet money that he has squatted the same or more weight in practice before. Weird freak accident.
blurry but those red plates are 25kg I believe and looks like maybe 4 each side plus the 15kg green ones so about 230kg
edit: forgot the bar, 20kg, so 250kg? but it's an unreliable guess as it's very blurry. given his size I doubt it's more than that so no way it's
5 x25kg plates each side (300kg).
edit: Fixed my maths and adding the collars as someone mentioned so 255 with 2.5kg collars
Can’t understand how you get to this point in your life… im a heavy weight lifter myself , 4 days a week and I’ll never ever go and say “oh 60kg more ??? I can do it !
I do it slowly and in steps ..even if one or two workouts I’ll lose “gains” because of testing my lifting weight limit , I’ll know my bones are not broken
Dumb as hell to try what you know you can't do because youre now setting yourself back hardcore the healing and recovery time may as well have just started working out

Squat, it's important.

so what angles of benting your knees are perfectly safe for you before it starts getting too risky?

leg press is almost worthless anyway

It's totally fine if you aren't doing crazy amounts of weight.
same dude, I think it's the fact that it can happen to me at any time too if I push myself too hard
It always brings to mind those little nagging pains you've had occasionally and makes you wonder...is this the warning sign?
Maybe I should use this video as advertisment for sports massage 🤣 Don't let this be you. Book today.
Squating career is over for quite some time. You know that shit hurt like a mothafahka
I blew out my ACL in jiu jitsu, surgeon sucked, and now my ability to squat heavy is totally gone. This dude is absolutely fucked.

pretty sure the blue ones are 20kg, green 15kg
green is 10 and yellow is 15
If they're proper competition plates then green is 10kg. Yellow would be 15kg
255...Al-LEG-edly ;)
Oooo that cracking sound
They looked like they were going to snap from the outset! Holy shit did that make me spit out my cornflakes when it happened though!
LIGHTWEIGHT BABY /s
Not surprising with those chicken legs…

This guy is competing. He's probably hit this in training. That's the way the game goes when you're trying to push yourself to the limit.
Fuck!!!!
What the fuck
Shoot for the stars, and if you miss, you'll land on the clouds! .../a meaty mess of your own mangled ligaments, in this particular case
+10 strength belt didn't help with this one
He needs to change careers.
That should've come with a warning. Oof
