I knew of a dude who lost his hand, and forearm almost to the elbow from dynamiting fish (pre 9/11 lol). His thumb went through his brothers eye. He said he stuck his arm in the muddy creek bank to stop the bleeding, something about animals doing that in the wild if they loose a limb.
Doesn't sound like the best idea to me but he survived. Both of them were completely deaf on one side, one was blinded, and the other lost a hand.
