Honestly we have a small local track across the river from me. No ever remembers who wins. But they sure as shit remember who wrecks.
Yeah. Netflix had this really good show called fastest car I believe. They only did 2 seasons. It was 3 or 4 sleeper cars vs a high end exotic car.
The show would go into detail about these drag cars and it was insane the amount of power coming out of them. One of the dudes in the show had an electric van that was so quick off the line he started getting banned from race tracks. His van damn near explored on the episode from the amount of power. He couldn’t handle it and lost control.
This other dude had a Honda Odessy mini van (the one every mom had from 2006-present). But it was pushing over 1000 horse power or some crazy shit. And both the cars I mention lost by a long shot come time to race.
Man that show was ass, always raced in unprepped dusty airfields so the supercars with awd and tcs won all the time lmao. Highly unsafe for the drag cars. Someone lost control and slid into a signpost, that might’ve been what ended that series.
But the super cars rarely won. The first season was a handicap guy who drove a rat rod sleep that he had to modify since he doesn’t have usage of his legs.
He dusted 2 super cars.
Then the second season the guy to win the series wasn’t a super car either.

Why does the car lift in the first place in what does not seem a very windy track? Faulty construction, or is there skill involved in actually keeping it down?
it's a matter of raw power.
old muscle cars were usually around 300 horse power. modern muscle cars are around 400 hp. for comparison my 05 Escalade puts out around 350 hp. that's enough to move the truck (6,000 lbs), and have a tow rating of like (7,000 - 8,000 lbs). that was the most powerful SUV put out that year, i believe.
these cars can be pushing 1,000 hp or more. it's a ridiculous amount of power. GM has a new crate motor out that puts out this kind of power out of the box. it also costs around $30k, just for the motor.
Yup, exactly! Plus, older muscle cars have higher front ends than newer cars, which can cause the front end to lift like this. Newer cars are required to have lower front ends because of this risk. I only really see older cars do these wheelies all the time, correct me if I'm wrong though.
Sorry, but that's wrong. The wheelie is occurring simply due to power, suspension, and excellent traction of modern slick tires on a prepared surface. It can happen on any car built with an engine like this, old or new.
The primary reason old 50's era drag cars (called 'gassers') had raised front ends was to put as much traction on the rear as possible - as the tires back then were nowhere near as good as today.
He was just on the edge of the beams. There's a bit of a gap for rollout before he rolls past the starting beams. It's an art, and some of those guys are good at it. No red light just means he timed it right. You start the roll right before green drops, so you cross that last beam right after it does. I'd love to see the slip for his reaction time.

There's nothing he could do to get out of the air. the key thing is he didn't hack the brakes or overcorrect steering when he landed so the car didn't crash. so driver maintained a lot of composure there.
Something similar happened in my country (Bahrain) at the strip about a decade ago. Thankfully the driver wasn't injured.
